A tale of 2 phones -data connection - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I know this has been mentioned a hundred times over i just wanted to share my experience:
I'm lucky enough to have 2 galaxy nexus in the house. My wife got one from costco and 2 weeks later I got mine from amazon. I got to play with her phone for a couple of weeks and was excited about mine. Her phone had decent 4g coverage. Her phone had very few data connection drops in those 2 weeks, so when I got my phone I was expecting something on par with her phone. My phone data connection sucks compared to hers. My phone will lose connection several time s a day. The worse is at night when my phone will lose connection and won't reconnect and the battery will quickly drain...while sitting next to my wife's phone which has no problems.
I was just thinking there must hardware issues?? Her phone works quite well while my mine has a crappy connection.
We are both are on stock. Hers is not rooted, mine is. I just updated my radio today and it seems to have improved my signal. I never saw 2 bars before, but now I've seen it a couple of times. I never see two bars on my wife's phone but she hardly ever loses connection (I check her phone frequently everyday)
fyi...
I'm having amazon send me a replacement...

Do you have the same carrier?
Are you using any apps that run in the background? You seem to be a tweaker (having rooted and everything), so I'm wondering if you haven't overtweaked the device with apps. Any 'battery' management or data connection apps?

I had a similar issue. Wife's GN was fine overnight while my own,;sitting a few feet away in the same room, showed a complete loss off signal from 1am on, causing the battery to drain completely.
The VZ rep told me the phone was probably defective, so I returned that phone, got another one with a bad screen and am now on my third unit.
This third phone seems OK, but even it was showing a bizarre loss of mobile data. I say bizarre because the status screen would show a reasonable RSSI of -83 and eHRPD:13 for the network but it would sometimes take as much as 10 minutes to actually connect.
I was using Juice Defender when I was having issues with this third phone. On a hunch, I removed that app and haven't seen the problem since. I'll probably throw JD back on sometime this week to see if the problem reoccurs.

Is mi xperia play unrepairable?

Hi, to start off my xplay fell into the water
I took out the battery and used a drier on it for a long time, when i tried to use it it worked fine however it wouldnt charge battery.
As soon as i was able i changed the battery (to the original factory one, i use a 3400 mah mugen battery) and it wouldnt charge either, then i took it to some technician who jump-started it or something, since then it has been working but the speed of both batteries drain is at last 5 times faster, during my sleep (only data turned on) it discharges about 50%. Drainage is crazy fast.
The phone signal is also very bad, keeps showing that the network is unavailable and sometimes when i try to manually connect to my operator network it does work. the signal display shows 4 bars and still no network even if on the street sometimes. (briefly before i installed doomlord kernel, 2.3.4 android, and jokawild rom in case this issue is known to happen)
This has been going on for like 15 days, everything else works perfectly. However just a couple hours ago touch screen also went mad, it keeps "clicking" all over the place, after doing touch screen service test it keeps drawing lines instead of dots wherever i touch.
I know its a lot of stuff, but i couldnt give up without asking in xda if theres any chance of saving my xplay or i just have to buy a new one.
THX a lot for your feedback.
It sounds like some circuitry may be overcharged from the water, as a similar effect happened with my old laptop. It may not be that though. Personally, I would try to replace it through ebay or the like. I feel bad for you, sorry that happened.

You could keep the microSD and put for sale elsewhere as "for parts"
(the conditions of damage make it unable to sell here I believe)

Is the 2G (GSM/EDGE, not 3G) signal still working?

Impressions & Questions

I've had this phone for a little over three days now. Overall, I absolutely love it. The only smartphones I've ever owned were the Evo lines, so this was a big leap for me, and I'm not sorry. However, there are a few issues with it.
First is a strange antenna issue. I have the Sprint version of the Optimus G, updated and rooted. When the network mode is set to LTE/CDMA, the 3G antenna will only turn on very rarely, leaving me entirely without internet access. I was about to return in when I realized that the issue is solved when I change it to CDMA only. We don't have LTE in my area, so I don't mind leaving my LTE antenna off. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone alone, or if it's a software issue that others have.
Then there's the screen. The screen itself is BEAUTIFUL, and I have no issues with it. But the screen scratches like crazy! I am extremely careful with my phones, and this one in particular. I kinda bought it on impulse, so I didn't have time to order a screen protector for it (one should be in tomorrow though). So I have been treating it with extra, almost paranoid caution. It's only ever been in my pocket while at work (nice khakis, so nothing harsh), and otherwise it's been undisturbed on a table. I check my pocket for any abrasive lint often since there's no screen protector on it. But the screen has developed about a dozen or so scratches, and one of them deep enough to distort the screen when it's on. I don't know how this is happening (the deep one happened in the space of five minutes, inbetween two texts, and was merely put into and removed from my pocket.)
Also, the battery life is kinda crappy. I live near a tower, so always have full signal. At work I'm on wifi, so that's not an issue. The battery scarcely lasts through work, with VERY light usage, and is nearly dead by the time I get home. Today, from the time I woke up with it at 100% to the time I got to work (about 2 hours, with constant near-full signal), the phone dropped from 100% to 76%.
Are these normal issues, or am I the only one experiencing them? I want to love this phone so much, but these seem like serious flaws to me.
I too had to change to CDMA so dont know what is wrong with that. And the scratches is weird ive dropped mine a few times and dropped my keys on the screen and nothing. And my battery is phenomenal. Seems like you have a dud.

In regards to the screen....this may sound like a stupid question and I don't mean to offend, but did you remove the temp screen protector that it comes with? I've not had one issue with my screen being scratched and I can't say I've been all that good to it for the last week.
I've had the phone for a full week now and I have not experienced 3G drops with LTE/CDMA mode enabled. Also haven't scratched it either (thankfully). I constantly put it in and out of my jean pocket throughout the day, so I don't really understand how yours got to be that way.
As far as battery life, I too don't see the issues you're having. Typically I pull it off the charger at around 7AM and can easily get 12 hrs+ with normal usage. Even with Android OS taking up the bulk of my battery (seems to be awake a lot). Lot's of people saying its a battery drain bug, etc. etc. etc...but if I'm getting 12 hrs easily, and 24 hrs with light usage, I don't have a problem with that.
-Screen brightness at 60%
-Wifi on all the time (connected at home and at work - probably helps, lol)
-2 Gmail accounts pushed constantly, Facebook messenger, and a few other apps that auto-update on schedule (news readers n stuff)
-My commutes to and from work - I listen/watch podcasts and/or read. Which means the screen is on the entire time (approx a 1hr commute). All said, my screen-on time sits at around 3 hrs for me.
I'll post some screenshots in a minute...

No scratches or weird battery issues here. My first two days the battery life was horrid. Afterwards I did some update and poof like magic.
Anyone have any info on the boot loader unlock initiative? I miss aosp
got this phone for sprint yesterday after having a BB for 5 years .. and i'm loving the beautiful screen,.
Only hiccups is maybe the battery... Yesteday i had it full on 100% then after 2 hours went down to 80%..
I'm currently in the office charging the phone to 100% will remove it and do normal routine on it and see how long it last.

Haha, I actually checked for this before posting. It is absolutely something I'd do.
After reading these and other comments about the phone, I realized I probably had a dud. I went to the Sprint store a couple days ago and swapped it out for a new one, and it's running beautifully, with none of these issues. So I guess I just got a faulty one. Thanks all for responding!

Good to hear! Sorry, I had to ask...my girlfriend had the same problem with her phone she got a couple months ago and it was because the temporary screen protector was still on the phone!
Anyone finding it gets kinda hot? I've read some owners complaining about this and it was mentioned in some review somewhere. Wondering how widespread it might be. Might be that people keep all 4 cores running 24/7. I don't see the point if you're web surfing, talking, texting. I keep it on Eco Mode most the time.
I've only notice it get warm once or twice, but even then it was barely noticeable. But I've had eco mode on since I got the phone, and it's not hesitated or stuttered once.

We are thinking of switching to Sprint, so we went to Best Buy and picked up one of these phones and I'm very impressed with it so far.
Actually this is the second one because the first one had a factory defect in the chrome around the screen. It get home with the 2nd one and notice there is a speck of dust under the glass.
I'm going to return this one in a day or two and see if the third one is a charm. If not, I'm not getting a forth one!
Any suggestions on a different phone for Sprint if this one doesn't work out? To me the only other phone to get would be the Note 2 and then the GS3.
A little help here guys. I was planning to return mine because of battery problem. Like i tried playing Dead Trigger, current battery is 54%, 30 brightness, sync and data is off. I played for good 5 minutes and it dropped to 48%. One more test is after it got 100% full charged, i unplugged it, Wifi is on still 30% and not using it for a couple of minutes it dropped to 97% and im not even using it!
So i want to return it.
The question is:
Do i have to pay for replacement? I got mine at BestBuy for 99$ almost a month ago.
2nd is will still they accept it now it got scratch on four sides. Any suggestion?

As long as it hasn't been over 30 days and the phone doesn't look "abused" then you should be fine, also if it's been under 30 days i would add geeksquad protection especially if you plan on rooting, i thought it was a bad investment at first, then when talking to a tech after my evo4g bricked he just said to "make sure the device doesn't power on" and they will replace it needless to say i took a ballpeen hammer too it and got a shiny new one 2 days later.
I took the LG back and got the GS3. I've already had to clear the cache on the galaxy because of excessive battery drain.
If the GS3 fails me, I'm gonna try the Note 2.

Yep, on eco mode the battery is outstanding. The phones is faster than my wifes S3 on eco mode, and I get nearly 2 days without charging. I had the note II for a week and that is just as good but was too big for me. This phone impresses me everyday.

OEM battery issues. Overheating when charging and dies quicker then it should.

Bought four AT&T S3's back in December for the wife, kids and myself and so far we love the phones. They all right great but all the sudden I've got weird battery issues.
One day I picked up my phone and the screen said something to the affect of it stopped charging because the battery was too hot. My phone felt like it was on fire. Another time it said something about the voltage being too high? Then as quick as they came, no more issues for like a month.
All of a sudden the error about the temperature came back again. If I use a battery app that gives me battery health information, everything looks GOOD. This is one of those issues where sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. The problem is if I take it off the charger, it normally doesn't do it until it's been on the charger for a couple hours and then its not always happening.
Oh and sometimes it just gets REALLY hot and doesn't give any messages. One other thing, since it started my battery life has taken a hit. I was getting 24~36 hours with medium usage but now I'm lucky to see 12~15 hours under the same conditions. I'm on the newest stock-rooted ROM with no tweaks, no over-clocking. I only have root to have basic things like no ads etc. I've ran this ROM for months without issues and I've not installed any rouge apps, I have no wake locks. I checked all that. I even did a Nandroid backup and did a fresh install and the problem came back after a few days.
I would say I have this issue 2 or 3 times a week? I'm not sure that it's consistent enough that I could walk into AT&T and SHOW them though.
Defective battery? Under warranty? I don't have many AT&T Corporate stores around here, it's a good 45 minute drive to one from my house or work. I should probably figure something out though before my phone melts!
Thoughts? Suggestions?
If you call att, they can do a warranty exchange. They send you replacement, you have so many days to return defective unit or you get charged for it. I would warrantyit.
As he stated just warranty it. They are ton's of reasons this could happen and hopefully they will just give you another battery or you can get "new" phone.
I wouldn't mess with a battery getting hot. Is this just yours ?
Yeah its just mine. The wife and kids S3's are fine.
I have to go into the city with the ATT Corporate Store tomorrow, I'll drop by and see what they say. Actually I'll call them tonight, no sense in going in if they can't do anything for me.
Thanks.

OGP (ATT E980) issues.

So I have had this phone for about over a month and I just love it. Here are two issues I have encountered so far. I don't know if it is the phone or a software issue:
1. The signal sometimes drops to 4G (not LTE) or Edge when LTE signal is weak but my wife's S4 holds on to one or two bars of LTE signal in the same spot. And then after I get an area where the LTE is supposed to be strong, the phone still says 4G or Edge. I can only get back to LTE if I toggle plane mode on and off. I actually tested the speeds to see if the S4's LTE signal is real. The S4 gives about 9 Mbps download and it shows LTE in speedtest app. While the OGP gives about 3Mbps download and it says Cell in the speedtest app. I hope this is a software issue and will be cleared when we receive an update.
2. The other thing just happened to me once yesterday. I unplugged my phone from the charger in the morning and played some songs via TTpod in my car. Took a few photos afterwards. Then the phone started to get warm in the lower half where you palm would usually hold it. The battery dropped at about 4-5 percent per hour (normally in idle it is less than 1 percent per hour drop). I tried stopping any unimportant processes that didn't help. I tried turning off my phone for 10 min and turning back on. It didn't help. I thought it might be the TTpod even though I had been using it for quite a while without a problem. I uninstalled it. Problem persisted. I basically gave up and let the phone sit in my pocket. The heating up gradually stopped after maybe a couple of hours. It haven't happened again since then. When I checked my battery status during the heating up though, it said the screen used most battery (however the on time was only about 9 min). I wish I had a screenshot or something.
Just want to know if some one also has experienced the same issues. Maybe it was just bad luck?
Nevertheless, it is a great phone. I hope we will get the 4.3 update and all the problems will be gone.
I work with a guy that has a GS4 and my LTE is way faster then his. We are both on the same network, and did a speed test at work the other day he only hit like 6 megs and I hit like 24... my other coworker has a note 2 and he downloads between 15 to 19 MEGS...
When the f*ck did we get ice cream??

Is your Replacement Note 7 working properly?

Hey guys, replacement day is approaching, and I keep reading these articles about overheating / overdraining battery issues in the replacement Note 7.
I wanted to open a main thread about how everybody who got a replacement Note 7 is doing and if they can report any issue...
So, if you have replaced your Note 7, how is it doing?
tnx for participating!

Doesn't look like a Hoax.
Whadda???
As well as the first. No issues here?
Got mine a week or so ago, no issues here. I managed to root it again using Sprint userdebug and it runs much better than the previous note did. Battery also seems to run very cool. The highest temp Ive seen was 34Âșc, which is incredibly cool. That was while I was out playing Pokemon Go during a hot afternoon by the way!!
No issues here, other than occasional SD820 lag.
No problems here either...
Agreed, Jo issues other then slight SD820 lag but since the new update its far smoother than the old Note 7 I had and only has the occasional stutter.
Edit: Battery life is still fairly similarr, however, I think that's due to my personal usage.
Works great, the was a couple of minor things that were different. I can't remember what since they were so insignificant
.
Got the replacement on Sep 21
Today, Sep 25, about 11 am, my note 7 got uncomfortably warm, it can be felt both on the back through the synthetic leather cover (wallet case) and on the front, but mostly on the back.
Turned the phone off for at least 5 minutes, then turned it back on, within a minute it gets warm again, and in about 4-5 min. it gets warmer, unusually warm.
Turned it back off for at least 30 min., turned it back on again, and this time I can't even input my security PIN, the screen isn't responding.
I turned it back off, take off my 256 GB SD card.
Called Samsung (The recall Phone#), they answered right away (very surprised) told them what happened, she then told me that this is not the first time they had this issue with the new replacement Note7, she transfer me to the support department, she told me the tech support department should issue me some kind of report# or whatever, I forgot, so that I could bring that to ATT to get another replacement phone.
The support reps just told me to bring the phone to the store to get it replaced.
Went to ATT Corporate Store in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
The sales person told me that I'm the second person with the same issue. The store can't issue a second replacement phone, she suggested me to bring it to ATT Device Support Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
But by then it's already close to 5 PM, Sunday. The office/store will be closed in few minutes.
So the ATT store clerk says to bring it to Best Buy where they have ATT reps inside to get it replaced.
So I went there, bad news....the wait is long...I decided to come back the next day.
End of story.
Now, Sep 25, Sunday night, I tried once more to powered up the Note7
It works, it didn't get warm, battery is at 40%
Put the SD card back in, and back up everything.
About an hour later, the phone gets warm again!
This time I didn't turn it off, I just stop using it and leave it on, I set the battery to "Medium Power" Saving Mode.
Battery now at 25%.
I think this time, it could be a software issue.
I remember when I change my 2009 iMac hard drive with SSD, I had to install a software to make the Fan work properly.
Samsung need to call that software company
The only issue that I'm having is when I'm scrolling through the app drawer with my finger is very slow. When I scroll with the S pen it's very fast. Other than that no complaints the phone hasn't overheated at all.

I'm noticing some bluetooth issues.
It won't connect to my asus zenwatch2.
It will connect to my macbook pro for a few minutes.
I've cleared the bluetooth data and cache and turned bluetooth on and off.
Ditto on the bluetooth issues here. I use a Bluetooth continuous glucose monitor that worked great before I swapped. Cleared cache, reset, et cetera but connectivity is still intermittent.

I m getting the note 7 would you guys recommend me getting one
no problems at all! wonderful phone!
Exynos model here, no problems.
Replaced Exynos working well.
With new N7 I got better battery life and the phone doesn't heat up at all during fast charge (V1 did a little). If anything, the touch was not registering too well, sometimes I had to press twice to register. That was yesterday, today it's fine now, so maybe I just need to wait for things to settle, since I was downloading 3 GB of programs and data and still setting things up.
Im having bluetooth issues as well. it keeps disconnecting from my gear fit 2 and i have to manually open the app and hit connect, which works about 75% of the time. Also battery does not last as long as my previous one. its not horrible but i notice the difference.
