There are Android tablets and the iPads, are there tablets on the market running WP7?
No, microsoft products go on things called 'slates', which have existed long before tablets and the iPad, but are always better. Even the older slates are better than modern tablet...
But they cost a pretty penny. You won't find one for less than $1,000
They run full blown Windows 7.
Soon they'll run Windows 8
There will never be a WP7 tablet.
you mean something like Samsung series 7?
what you are looking at is windows 8, those will be the tablets with the metro interface(aka wp interface)

I completely disagree.
I tried one out a few weeks ago. Couldn't even get the fershlugginer keyboard to stay up. I'd click on a type area... it would freeze first of all.. then the keyboard would pop up. As soon as I went to touch it, it would disappear.
After about 4 minutes of this, I slowly put it down, walked away, and will never touch another Windows 'slate'.

so you had one bad experience with a particular slate, and you will never touch another Windows slate? Blaming everything on the OS?
I'm using a Windows 8 in my laptop (without touch screen), and I think, it is very fast.
But if we put WP7 on tablet... uhh, bizarre
Supposedly Nokia and some Chinese companies are racing to make $200.00 tablets that run Windows 8 by mid or late this year.

I've read so many claims that windows 7 on tablets is superior to ipad/android its deafening. The problem is, I've never seen one being used as a tablet, or being used period, other than in stores. Never met one person that has liked w7 on a tablet, but the internet is full of gushing reviews. Weird.
i for one don't care for 800x480 stretched over a 7" screen.
I've got a leno multitouch netbook running the developer edition (pre beta here guys) of windows 8 and it runs awesome. Even snappier then windows 7 on it. The netbook by no means has stellar specs either. Its similar to but definitely not identical to the wp7 interface. When I bring it out in public though I get a lot of interested people asking questions as they see me swiping the metro interface back and forth to open applications.

I've got a Samsung Series 7 Slate and I'm loving it so far. Its fairly powerful, and the form factor is fantastic. I set up a separate partition and loaded up Windows 8 on it. Windows 8 works very well on a tablet. Its very responsive and intuitive. It does crash occasionally but what do you expect for a beta build.

Ok, I recently bought a used iPad from a developer, he is upgrading to iPad2.
Anyway, I have been playing with the iPad for the last couple days, and didn't touch my Windows Phone 7 until just now.
I don't know why fanbois are bragging about iOS. I just couldn't believe how smooth the aesthetic of Windows Phone 7 is. I was actually bored with it, and think I'll sell the iPad on craigslist. I wish Microsoft would do Windows Phone 7 slate...it would so awesome!
there is a lot of strong rumours going on about Windows 8 (that's right, continuation of Windows 7, not Windows Phone 7) being very tablet focused as well. And amoung those rumours are that they might take a few aspects of Windows Phone 7, but not sure at this stage. And there is also a rumour that they'll show off Windows 8's UI at the All things D confrence in June.
So i was thinking of getting a tablet, my first choice (instinctive) was for a windows tablet, so i looked around and of course there's no good ones
So i have an evo and my next idea was an android tablet, but i was wondering if you guys could help me because to me the idea of having 2 devices with the same type of operating system (tablet and phone) seems kinda redundant but i know theres good integration by google made and im actually looking at the Asus EEE pad and the HTC Flyer (maybe the Puccini) so i was wondering if you guys can answer that and maybe direct me to a tablet that would be useful for me? i am currently a college student studying Electrical Engineering and i watch movies (netflix subscription ) and browse the web a lot and as well as look at pdfs and write notes.
Thank you
People are dumping their xooms for asus transformers that must say something right? The Asus has a 10" 16gb for 399.99 screw the xoom. Transformer also got great reviews across the board. I'm going to hand my ipad 1 down to my woman and buy my first android tablet. Only thing is...those suckers are sold out in Houston. Fyi the htc flyer is a joke dont waste your time.
to me the xoom was always a fail that price was way too high for something that came out a bit unfinished, played with it and i was really unimpressed.
and idk i liked the flyer since the evo came out really nice i thought the flyer would have really good things too and the pen doesnt seem that bad i think but i have yet to play with it so i want to wait til it comes out. i feel it might be too similar to my evo though
and yea Asus did it amazing i think, their tablet came out really just sucks their production didnt get hurried up til now but yea that was one of my options for sure
Xoom's price is a joke and that's why it only sold like 100k units in the US. HTC flyer is like an overgrown evo its not a significant difference; Reminds me of the Samsung galaxy tab (fail) lol. I really want to get my hands on that Asus just have to find one. You could always get an ipad they're pretty sick. I hear the android tablet by dell and the HP webOS tab will be sick. I'm not impressed at all with the blackberry Playbook.

yea it is and they still arent even bringing it down so yea to me that tablet isnt good.
the flyer does look like that horribly it has no difference to the evo except the magic pen which would be useful for notes but idk how responsive it is, i heard that its really not that great though.
yea i saw a couple online for like 450+ for the 16gb one and yea so not getting it yet lol i want the msrp for that since its so cheap
the ipad is good but to me after playing with the ipod touch and the ipad already i dont see it being useful in an academic environment i might be wrong though but havent seen it that useful for regular school work
the 10 inch one? i have heard a few things but nothing solid yet. and the touchpad i have yet to hear anything about it either so i cant comment on those but competition is always healthy for us consumers
and yea the Playbook was a fail by blackberry, hasnt made any impact and half the features are still coming soon i think
Well there you go...here's your solution. Asus 10" 16gb 399.99 perfect for school!
Look up some YouTube videos people are comparing it to the xoom.
If you're in college you probably need something that will actualy do some work. Considering that you're in engineering you probably need more than an Android tablet for serious college level computing. I have an ASUS T101MT with 2gb ram running Windows 7 Ultimate and Office 2010. I'm still doing setup and testing to maximize the configuration, but it's probably not going to be the ideal video playback device. I bought it mostly for light weight, small size, and portability for when I travel. It's small but I can still do a lot with it.
In your case, it may be too small for daily use as your primary system. If I only had one device in your circumstance, I'd want the ASUS EP121. Plenty of power - Core i5 with a 12.1" screen, 4GB memory, and comes with Windows Home Premium. The one with the 64GB SSD runs $1100, but it would do everything you'd need it to do for your time in college.

thanks ill keep my eye out for it then imma see if i could actually find one to play with before deciding on what would be best

yea i have a main system which will be upgrade soon (to a Asus G-73), i have a dell studio xps with windows 7 ultimate and office 2007 installed along with multisim and any other school software i need but due to its size and weight it is a hassle to take it to class everyday and i just need a quick device to be able to glance things on the fly and be able to use it during class a bit if you know what i mean?
that is the windows 7 tablet i was actually considering, seems very versatile and extremely well built, to the point that it seems worth investing the type of money. and it would be an improvement over this laptop i have and its bigger than my phone i want like an in-between device i guess. this would also have some essential tools but i think android and ipad cover word and excel good i think right?
Wait for the evolution view tablet
midget tossing is habit...2010 midwest regional champion... hw 001
whats the diff between the view and the flyer?
the flyer is the wifi version isnt it? and the view is the 3g one from sprint

I'm not sure which Win 7 tablet you're referring to, but the T101MT is really small and light, which is what I got it for. Still can run Win 7 and Office and has a 250GB hard drive. My son uses his ASUS 1001HE Netbook for school and has gotten two years of work out of it and it's still going strong. He uses it daily to remote desktop back to our network and access his desktop from school. The only reservation I have with either of these is the 1024x600 screen, but that's because I'm an old geezer and can't see up close anymore. For you youngins, it may not be an issue.
I think a pure tablet sans keyboard is pretty cool for some things, but in an educational environment you probably want something with a keyboard. Then you have to ask if you can do without Windows/Office. We have tons of stuff on One Note which we find very useful, so for us the decision is pretty easy. Plus our servers and the rest of our network are all MS OS so it gets pretty hard to give up the integration factor. I'm not trying to down talk any other platform, but with as much as I have invested in a powerful and flexible network it only makes sense to leverage its functionality. YMMV

the big issue, of course, is the dodgy screen. Sometimes the OS will even start scrolling on its own on that phone or the 3 buttons will become unresponsive until you lock and unlock the device. Aside from that, the display is washed out leaving the blacks grayish. Aside from that, the kick stand is in the worst place on any phone ever, the speakers get about as loud as my DVP, and the battery life is horrid for such a brick of a device.
I have the screen not responding problem but not the rest. It usually happens when I plug it into the charger .. battery life is only 1230 mAh so I understand why its bad. I charge it twice a day.
Sent from my T8788 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Just check out the display compared to that of a DVP, focus, even an HD7s. The difference is crazy. That kick stand is an inconvenience in my opinion. I can't count the number of times I tried closing the phone on that for the 2 weeks I tried to use that as my daily driver.
Unfortunately display size on all WP suck. If that's really important you are better off with the Samsung galaxy nexus.. I might be switching too. not cause of the display and not cause I don't like WP. I think WP is the best mobile os but its too restrictive. Right now my Comcast is out since the past 3 days because of the snow storm. I can't tether with my phone because at&t doesn't allow it. If I had android I could root my phone and pretty much do anything.
Sure Android has a lot of flaws but I feel like its the only Os where you can actually do something about them. If something is broken most likely there is a solution on xda for it.
With wp and ios it won't get addressed,if ever, for a full year and there is no aftermarket solution.
And the specs of the latest androids look pretty tempting. Who doesn't want a dual core 720p phone. Even though WP doesn't need it, it can't hurt to have that much power for the same price.

well said buddy...that's the reason I'm switching to android...
will definitely come back here, when windows 8 and windows phone are available...alienware+windows 8 and galaxy note with windows phone 8 will be the day, I come back here...
Alienware is a joke, overhyped hardware that's overpriced. You could buy higher spec stuff at your local electronic shop for half the price and throw it all together in 2 hours.
Enjoy your transition to android, I wasn't capable of going back after such a pleasant UX. Didn't matter what I modded, WP7 just felt better.
Really?alienware sucks???actually I love the light effects and I can get the m11x in my country for about 900-1000 usd. However, will see what happens when windows 8 is releases. still comparing though...
Alienware is just slightly sup'd up dell. If you want a decent gaming computer, build it yourself. You can get better for much cheaper.
Okay, so it's not gone but the half hour I was forced to spend with android was miserable. Today, despite my better suggestions, my cousin bought a GN. He's not much of a techie, so he asked me to flash android revolution onto his device. Okay, rom-flashing, I used to be an addict. I took his phone, tinkered around, and physically cringed at the sight of the lag. I struggled past my initial disgust, I mean I had to attempt to improve the mess he got himself into. So, I get on the comp, download the files, and realize just how tedious all of this is. I do everything, get it flashed, hand it back to him. I don't care to see it, I feel violated enough having done that. I had to preserve the sanctity of my smartphone integrity. He takes it back and is in awe, so, he shows me how much faster it is. I suppose that I'm spoiled by quality, but it seemed slow even then. Hardly any smoother. I mean, I honestly think the first Gen trophy would have been better, he said the rep told them they haven't carried a windows phone in 3 years. Verizon really needs some better options, I hastily rushed back to the warm confines of my functional OS with suggestions to just utilize buyers remorse and pick up a focus S, a noteworthy upgrade. After using my WP7 before he was sold, but ATT sucks in his region.
I have the same experience from a slightly different angle. I am a big wp7 fan and currently tote an HTC titan which I love. I also had an ipad, my sister had a Motorola XOOM, she is a big fan of apple stuff so suggested we swap tablets, I agreed and am now the proud(?) Owner of a XOOM, and the thing drives me nuts, it lags, the browsing experience is laggy and horrible, the keyboard lags in the browser the interface is messy, I loathe the bloody thing but my sister will not swap back. People keep telling me I should flash the latest nightly eos ics version on my XOOM, but I run my own 24/7 business and don't have enough hours in the day to spend mucking about with something that should not deliver this sort of experience out of the box. On the upside, it supports flash so it is good for the bbc player, for everything else, I use my titan.
I find the OP a bit too convenient, I've used a GN and it was a great experience. I have no idea why you would want to flash that phone!
Now if this was the Verizon GN then it's no secret that this is Verizon's doing, you can read about it on any tech website. So in that case the mistake would be investing in anything other than the unlock GN, nothing to do with the actual "real" device or ICS.
Sent from my Samsung Omnia 7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
@adesonic I suggest you swap back the tablets in her sleep. WP is great but as far as tablets go, there's the iPad and the rest. I'm not even sure ICS on the Xoom would make it that much better.

Honestly, i know exactly how refreshing it is to use a WP7 device coming from months of nerd raging, flashing and all sort of sufferings. Now i'm a 24/7 WP7 user and i feel fine with this, BUT: don't you ever phisically cringe whenever you have to plug your phone to a pc just in order to sideload an app? Ok, you shouldn't need that often, but what about multitasking? Don't you ever phisically cringe when you, for example, are using both the XDA App (painful to use on WP7 to say the least) and the browser, and when switching between the two you have to stare for a few seconds at a black loading screen before the XDA App reloads, generally wiping the text you just typed? What about having to pay in order to have a decent YouTube app on your phone? What about having to pay in order to have a decent gps navigation experience (unless you're on a Nokia device)? Both worlds are painful at some extent. Right now for my kind of usage it's way less painful to use a WP7 device, but you cannot expect that every single user will feel the same: we all have different needs.
On a side note, guess what kind of users are generally browsing XDA right now? I'll better take cover before another troll war starts rocking the topic...
Android's for customizing and hacking... out of the box, it's colorful bull****. If I would have to use TouchWiz or that LG-UI everyday, it would drive me insane!
I have a Samsung Omnia 7 (Stock ofc, but with some hacks e.g. tethering) , Samsung Galaxy SII (MIUI) and an Asus Eee Pad Transformer (revolver ROM). The device I use regularly is, as you might be able to guess, the Omnia 7.
The Transformer is only used as an E-Reader and for Movies (but it does that quite good!), the Galaxy SII is for flashing around and customizing. Not even music or anything on it, call me crazy
And my Windows Phone, well thats to actually get the work done.
Again the GN is pure android out of the box (unless it's from Verizon) and it works great. Since that's the phone mentioned in the OP I have to defend it. I would still rather buy a Lumia 900 or Focus S if they were sold in Europe but I can recognise ICS as a great OS.

What is a "GN" ? Did he also sign a contract for a piece of hardware, or can he use whatever he finds on craigslist with his carrier ?
Apparently there are wp devices being sold, I see one or two a week on my local craigslist.
How convenient, Zee can't answer his lies in the Q&A forum, so he comes here for confirmations.
Smh, i tested my Nexus S against a Focus S, and my Nexus S running stock ICS not modded in anyway was smoother at everything. Shocking! ICS is really astonishing.
Also the 720p display on the GN is forcing the GPU to work 2.4x harder.

A lot of people don't mention the GN's lag because they're comparing it to other android phones. 3 or 4 years in and google still can't create a gpu accelerated UI? Tragic.

He also mentioned android's new hardware accelerated UI in the other thread -_-... At the rate they're going, that'll be coming around when they're running through the alphabet for names a second time.
The Galaxy Nexus is amazing. Its smooth and the UI is incredible. I absolutely love the face that it has soft.buttons, and they made multitasking amazing in it.
But I cannot use a phone that big, ever. Its truly huge. Also the camera leaves something to be desired.

Does that really matter? I don't think that the additional 100 MHz packed by the Titan would matter that much. Anyway, be it smooth or not in the UI, it's quite sure the Nexus S won't be as consistent as a WP7 device (regardless the hardware) in terms of smoothness throughout all the OS and especially when using third party apps.
Answer Android UI is hardware accelerates. Why does Z need to tell Android shards to validate his choice of Windows Phone?
Polly gonna go in carrier stores play more tomorrow abduction thwarting Windows probes are thwarting only ones I'm sure I won't touch because if you have a first gen device there's almost no reason ti buy a new one anyways.

Even most android fanboys aren't lying about the addition of hardware acceleration.
While I'm happy with my Lumia 800 and focus flash (titan broke, damn HTC and their crappy build quality) perhaps you should wait for the lumia 900. I wish I could've gotten some hands on time with that marvel of cellular technology at CES.
It is hardware accellerated. Stop living in 2010.
The UI latency you keep bringing up is invisible to most consumers and really, I didn't notice it when I spent over an hour in every carrier store Saturday morning/afternoon and played with the Galaxy Nexus. The UI is amazing, and it's smooth as hell. It also has 32GB internal storage and treats it the same as WP7 and iOS (everything on the same storage, no more small App partitions). It's an amazing device. I just think it's too damn big. Updates come way faster to the Galaxy Nexus than to any Windows Phone. With Android having a good UI now, I'm actually considering getting that device (I had sort of sworn off of it after the Vibrant, which is why I got the HD7). Android 4.0 has Native MTP support as well, which negates the need for USB MS as the device can sync natively to Windows Media Player (Music, Podcasts, Pictures, Video) - something not even WP7 can do (needs a redundant app for that). That has always been a negative for Android, but it's gone now...
The Lumia 900 will have the same crappy hardware as basically every other Mango device, it will just be huge, use a now "getting kind of old/overused" design, and have LTE - which isn't even available to most people here (so waste battery life for a capability that isn't possible to use, thanks but no thanks). It will even still have a WVGA resolution in a qHD and (becoming) 720p world, which looked terrible as all hell on the Titan screen when I played with it (made the Focus Flash screen look like a Retina Display by comparison).
The main issue is the OS, the device builds are not top notch but that's a different beast. The OS has grown boring to me, and I will be forced to carry 3 devices if I continue to use WP7. That's become unacceptable to me. I'm going to another platform so I can either use one device (if iPhone, I can ditch my iTouch and Android phone) or two (if Android, then I can carry my Android device and my tiny iPod Touch) instead of the situation I'm in now. I'm leaning towards iPhone, because of iMessage, FaceTime, and the fact that 80% of the people I know use iPhones now.
And yes, HTC is notorious for their crappy build quality. The only value they bought to Android was Sense, back when the Android UI was TRULY terrible. Other than that, their devices aren't anything to write home about.
The only area of pause with the Galaxy Nexus is the Camera and lack of a Camera Shutter button.
T-Mobile 3G here is giving me edge speeds with a full 3G signal, so I need to switch carriers next month when I switch phones, as well. I'm tired of their terrible network. Went home for a week last week and couldn't even make a call 90% of the time, or send a text. Had almost no reception. They should have let AT&T buy them.
I have been a Samsung fan for a long time. I had the original Note 10.1 and loved it. I have had my 2014 model since it came out, so about 15 months now. I use it for business all day long and keep all of my client notes on it. I use it to consume media and the occasional game. I do not think I am rough on it but like I said I use it about 12 hours a day.
My issue is that it seems to be riddled with problems all of the sudden. Almost like it was not built to last. I did not think at the time to buy an extended warranty because I have never had an issue with Samsung quality. Now that I am 2 months out of warranty I have the dreaded black screen of death issue, which I have fixed several times by opening the device and disconnecting the cables. Now when it happens I do not have to open it up , I just press on the back a few times and it fixes it. The S-pen detached message is now a problem due to the s pen not making contact with the sensor which causes the screen to kick on making my battery drain because I do not see the screen on while in the case.
So my question is
1. Since I use it so heavily should I expect to replace it more often? Should I buy a new one and pony up for the square trade (or better) extended warranty?
2. Should I upgrade to the 12.2? Does it fix some of the problems that seem to be inherent to the 2014?
3. Do I bail all together and go with w Surface Pro 3? ( Really don't want to do this because I have the Note 3 phone and sync my notes between it and the note 2014. The note 3 phone may be the best phone I have ever had.
Thoughts?
It does sound like you've used your note pretty heavily and the problems sound like physical wear & tear. You definitely need a device that stands up to your use patterns. Spen will always be a point of wear with prolonged use, so other notes will prob see similar life spans in that regard. I have had note ii over 2 yrs and haven't used the spen the amount you say you have (I only used the spen for a prolonged, 6 month period- every day for class notes) on the note tablets, so I haven't ever experienced these problems. Other questions you have I cant answer.
Edit: so I guess all I can answer is; you will now probably have to expect getting a new device more often since you use them heavily. Although, I really would have thought these tab/phablets to last longer
Im in a similar situation as you. My screen is not working anymore. It has like a 10% chance of turning on. Im going to send it in and see if they repair it. If I have to pay I will open it up and have a look myself.
I have had 4 samsung tablets. The note 10.1 is the first tablet that has broken on me like that.
I also own a 12.2. I think it has a better build quality. It doesnt have the bubbles under the screen. I think they fixed some engineering errors that the 10.1 has.
I would consider selling the 10.1 and getting the 12.2 in your place. Im considering getting a second 12.2 as well.
Personally I dont see a benefit in a microsoft surface opposed to the note 12.2. Windows is not a touchscreen OS and its not fun to use. I only use my tablet for taking handwritten notes and the Samsung note series is the best at that specific task.

I recently sold my Note 10.1 2014 for a Surface Pro 3 and will never look back. Nothing beats having a full desktop OS in this form factor. I am a student and use to use my Note for handwritten notes extensively. I always found the experience super frustrating. Firstly, a TON of websites that my school required me to use wouldn't work on a mobile browser. I tried everything. Different browsers, sideload flash, etc. Yes, the note was more of a productivity tablet than any other android tablet, but a lot of the productivity features felt extremely half baked.
Onenote. Full stop. /thread.
Once you have used Onenote on the SP3 there is nothing that compares on the android side of things. I used LectureNotes all the time for in class note, and it is AWESOME software with an AWESOME dev, but it just isn't capable of the same things that you can do with OneNote.
I have to disagree with you about windows not being a touch friendly OS. No, it isn't made specifically for touch, but it works to be sure. Until you use Windows for a couple of days on a touch device, can't really say it's terrible.
Anyway... I don't want to sit here and laud the Surface Pro 3 all day and detract from the overall topic sounding like a major fan boy, but in the week that I've owned it, I feel it has EASILY replaced my Note and even exceeded my expectations. This too is coming from a super huge android fan that thought android could do what any other OS could do by a long shot. I was super resistent to joining another ecosystem as I've used android exclusively since 2009, but I'm glad I did. OP, the ultimate decision is yours. Try a SP3 for 14 days and return if you dislike. I will say for me, it was time to move on from Samsung's Note line. With their locked down software and terrible update history...
Done.... I swear.

Forgot to add, I think you can get Onenote for android now with support for handwritten notes. It would sync automatically with your SP3 if you purchase one.
Maybe moving for the NEXUS 9... What you guys think?
thnx

What makes OneNote better than similar apps on an android tablet? I watched some video reviews on the Surface3 and most reviewers say that OneNote has lots of features but what are those features?
I for example have a laptop and 2 android tablets. I really miss some kind of instant sync feature of notes between the devices. Open documents as tabs and a way to split the screen like in adobe PDF pro would be cool too.

There are tons of features in onenote. I have only scratched the surface in exploring. This feature sounds super sick https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Take-linked-notes-19a63ea7-0559-46c6-bf1f-b6455e3e66c1
Basically when your in a note taking session, any webpage that you open and anything that you research is automatically tied into the notes.
The recording also works better than Lecturenotes. One of the biggest frustrations that was alleviated for me when switching to onenote was the importing of pdfs. I get huge PDF powerpoints from my professors and it always took a good 5 minutes to be imported into lecturenotes. With onenote it's almost instant.
Just overall the whole experience of note taking and school work is just better on a full blown PC. I know there are a lot of work arounds for android to make certain things work, but with SP3 I just don't feel that limitation at all. It makes for a liberating experience. Like wearing a latex suit all of your life and then joining a nudist colony
It sounds like you have similar usage as me and knock on wood I haven't had any issues besides the battery not lasting as long as it use to. I personally love the S Pen and nobody else has that function so switching platforms wouldn't be ideal for me.
If my tablet were to break I would look at the 12.1 or pick up a refurbished 10.1. with an extended warranty.
If you can get it fixed, I would keep it. I'm in a somewhat similar situation, but my Note isn't broken. I've used this thing for over a year and loved it. A couple of weeks ago I bought a surface pro 3 and ever since then I haven't touched the Note.
If you can't keep it, I would suggest moving onto a Windows tablet/hybrid if you value productivity. Many people will probably disagree with this, but it depends on what you want to use it for. Yes the Surface is much more expensive than the Note, but there are alternative Windows hybrids that are cheaper. If productivity is your main use, then I believe that Windows is way more superior, and aside from the Android games, it has all the media capabilities and more.
I noticed that there was some mention of writing on PDFs. In my experience, I haven't found very many apps that are smooth and good for taking notes on the Note. Windows has a few apps that can do this much better (Xodo Docs which is free and Drawboard which is 9.99). They offer a much smoother experience imo.

Totally agree with this. As far as productivity is concerned SP3>Note. Once Console OS is released...this thing will be a wet dream come true for me.
on day 5
I made the switch to the surface pro 3. Too soon to tell (sending this on my 10.1). Out of the gate was an issue with defective keyboard connection so had to return. Went to Microsoft store (did not buy from them) and customer service was incredible. Replaced tablet without question and went much further to make things right. I will give full review in few days after i get more acclimated
I'm on a note pro 12.2 and the surface pro 3 has me thinking about switching. OneNote on Android is horrible, but on a PC it's about the best program on the planet. I had no interest in the SP3, until I did three hours on lecture notes on OneNote for Android and went to paste a picture I thought was in the clipboard and instead a 5 page Word document was pasted over all my notes. Stupid Android version has no undo function.

The thing is all those other comparable tablets are alot less mobile. More weight, more size, less battery.
I think the note 10.1-2014 is still the best device in its category. I'd love something better but for my needs there isn't. Maybe the first win10 tablet from MS will be the thing. Because samsung is just getting worse and worse..

It's the only thing they have left to tempt me as well. Here's hoping that they do something with the Android client.
new tablets are coming
FWIW, on your next tab (whatever that is) think about getting an extended warranty from SquareTrade. I used to be pretty skeptical about extended warranties because of bad experiences, until I tried SquareTrade. Very good service, and the prices are reasonable. Now I buy on most big electronics purchases and have never been disappointed with the investment.
