***Warning Dragons Ahead!!*** Do this at your own risk, I am just providing the files / scripts and can not be held responsible for any harm done to your device. It's working great for me but your results may vary, but again I am not responsible for any damage or problems you might encounter by using this mod.
This mod will not stop the ota updater from working properly and may even help pull in updates, this one should work on all builds.. It will change your build number and tab name unfortunatly there is no fix for this since the market uses this info to determine which apps to display.
Be sure to back up your original build.prop before doing this mod!!!
This mod is for HoneyComb Only
(to backup simply copy your origional build.prop file to an alternate location like /mnt/sdcard).
A little about the build.prop file and what it does:
Your build.prop file contains a lot of information about your tab. Things like what model, version of android, manufacturer and other info can be found within, but it also can control certain aspects such as display density, wifi scan time and other misc tweaks that improve overall smoothness.
This build.prop file contains the following changes:
# Makes the market and apps think your a100 is really an a500 (letting you find and buy more apps then what you'd normally see in the market)
# Speed up UI (smoother flinging)
# Battery saving tweaks
# Inet optimization tweeks
# Additional tweaks to fine tune the touch screen (still has the double letter issue when typing too fast)
# Additional tweaks to improve battery saving while tablet sleep
# Added LCD Density (you can change to smaller icons and higher virtual resoolution by lowering the density (see inside of build.prop file)
# Reorganized the build.prop file and included comments for the various tweeks
# Added settings to improve image quality when taking pictures and recording video and speed up bootimes (just by a few seconds) [thanks to tehgyb of xda]
# Added settings to improve streaming media streaming (improves youtube preformance) [thanks to Icewyng of xda]
# Added settings to improve app compatibility (less fc's) [thanks to Icewyng of xda]
Requirments: (things you'll need before doing this mod) You'll need to be rooted and have root explorer installed. (or some other method of copying the build.prop file to /system)
Instructions:
- Open root explorer and navigate to /system and tap the mount r/w button
- Unzip the file and put build.prop in /system (be sure to make a backup copy first!)
- Reboot and watch your tab fly even faster!
If you have problems finding apps in the market (such as gameloft games) try clearing the cache for market.
-----------------------------------
If you'd like the terminal commands (if you cant figure out any other way to copy and dont have root explorer), let me know and Ill work up the commands and post them.
WOWWW !! Awesome MOD !! Very fast tab !!
very nice
thank you so much! finally we got some attention in the dev department, and i really do appreciate it
will tast it later and report back.

also guys if you don't wanna use root explorer (not sure if its free now) but you can use ES Explorer go to settings and check root explorer and mount system boxes. Then you can copy the file over or edit the build.prop yourself.
crossix this looks awesome, i will be doing this after work today, thank you so much for your work!
i know its kind of off topic but is it at all possible you or someone could post the acer sync.apk from Acer_A100_2.007.04_COM_GEN_1? its located in /system/app. I didnt know it handled the exchange portion of the rom, so i uninstalled it and titanium backup just hangs on restoring it for me
thanks again for everything!
Anyone try this on gen2 yet?
Sent from my thunderbolt using tapatalk
it would change the build number of the current running rom and potentially cause a softbrick with some of the extra's acer put in. You can try it, just make sure you have a working recovery method before you do!
If you've borked your recovery so that none of the update.zip files are recognized (you get the red spin forever error) then you'll need to look at the bootloader thread in the general section for a working recovery image (probably should make that another topic in this dev section).

Luckily it did not turn my A100 into a soft brick LOL!!!

Funny, now cause it thinks it is a A500 I got an OTA update notification, which I ignored since I do not want to brick my A100 LOL!!
Does this mod give you the Astro file manager that breaks down the sections of storage areas like when it is installed on the A500? Super handy how it had it broken down to Internal/External SD/USB storage sections, instead of having to navigate to \mnt\sdcard or \mnt\external_sd

Um, no.. I have no idea what that is. This mod just make the market and any apps you install think your running a a500. It doesn't give you any extra functionality in the apps that come with the tab. Also, if you have wifi disabled while your tab is turned off there's hardly any battery usage. After sitting for 8hrs today I had 96% battery left, .5% an hour ain't bad at all.

Hi guys,
I've been changing roms on my phone lately and found out that there were some roms that have some apps on the rom that I don't want on it.
Or just the other way around, that it doesn't have some apps on it that I do want when I install a new rom.
After a while I got irritated by this and thought that I could create a program that could help people like me by adding/removing apps from the rom without diving into the rom zip file and maybe delete files that I shouldn't touch.
It's finally finished and it works, i've tested it on my HTC Desire multiple times now .
let me know what you think! And if you have any tips/questions check my website to get my e-mail address!
you can find more info/screenshots at beardman.eu
And here's the Download link!
Updates:
V1.5
- It's even bigger
- You are able to change your boot animation
- You are able to change sounds (Alarms, notifications, ringtones)
- Code optimization
V1.4
- It’s a bit bigger
- You can now maximize the window
- It no longer looks like it’s frozen when you unpack/save a rom
- Bar at the top of the program with the “settings”
- Progress bar on the bottom to show the unpacking/saving progress
- Report bug option for when you’ve found something that isn’t working!
- Code optimization
V1.3
- Extra tab for some settings which can be turned on and off as you wish
- Changelog is now included
- Check for update is included
- You can open the last rom as how you left it, no need to drop it on there again
- Automatically remove the safe to remove apps
- Automatically load previous edited rom
- Small bugfixes
V1.2
- Information is shown while extracting rom
- When saving rom, a location and file name is asked
- When right clicking on an item in the System list a pop-up will show which allows the user to mark an app as safe/unsafe to remove
- Items will be colored red or green or black depending on if they are safe or unsafe to remove
- Option to delete all the safe to remove items
V1.1
- Added compatible with update-script
Todo:
- Save state
- get your own list of apps to remove automatically
This program is supposed to work on most devices, if you've tested it and it works let me know!
Working devices:
- HTC Desire
is that like the rom kitchen?
but works on windows??
I don't really know, I haven't looked into it. The only thing you can change so far is adding and removing apps to the system and user partition. If you have a tip on what I should add, let me know!
Yes, it works on windows.
I haven't really dabbled in it much - but when i did it looked like you needed a linux VM/boot to play around with it much...
one thing that might be sensible is to try and code in a flag to identify apps that shouldn't be removed, because of fc etc.? even if they are just flagged as italics or something with a warning that they may cause fc if you don't have a default launcher or something
Well, it works on windows because you'll need to download a rom first, and then you open the rom zip file with this program and you'll just basically edit the files in the rom zip file!
Thanks, that's a good one! I'll look into it soon!
something like this is always good for getting rid of htc stocks (stock.apk and the widget too com.htc.stockwidget.apk - oh and plurk too nowadays)
and the apps that annoy you because you replace them instantly with an updated/different version from market, like quickoffice, the google apps that are out of date very quickly...
if you can make the app recommend ones not to remove, perhaps its worth highlighting ones that are recommended to remove too?
list could be provided quickly by people using the app as to which ones are commonly removed
edit: especially as you have a nice little log of apps that are removed:
17:50:21 - Removing app com.htc.linkedin.apk
17:50:21 - Removing app com.htc.PlurkWidget.apk
17:50:21 - Removing app com.htc.StockWidget.apk

was playing about with this rom if it helps: Cool-AceS-v7.zip
--- oh
and if it helps, it might be an idea to put a 'please wait' box popup or something when loading a rom - it took a minute or so when i tried it - and the app window hangs (as well as the explorer one I dragged the .zip from) - if a progress bar can be made that'd be better, but it'd be good just to tell people that it's doing something and not just crashing
Thanks for the error report, gonna look into it in a hour or so!
Think that's a good idea, i'll see what I can do for it .
-edit:
Found what the problem is, currently it only works when a rom is using the updater-script, not the update-script.
Think i'll be able to fix it this week .
Not to disappoint you or anything but what you can do with this program you can do it anyway. I was hoping for a proper full on program really, not just deleteing applications. I can do this anyway by opening rom.zip and deleteing the apps myself.
Probably a nice little app for newbies though.
Had another idea, to set your own list of defined apks to remove so you can have quick open and deletion (and addition) of apk list, and recompile of a zip.

not everyone is familiar and happy to start ripping open zips and deleting stuff so for those people this will be a nice way to get stuff done without the fear of screwing it up
And you can add apps to the user data partition. If the rom hasn't included the data install in the updater-script that will be added !

when saving I got the error 'rom file is in use by another process' or similar
I guess that's because I opened it in the app and it is trying to save over the top?
'save as' feature would fix it
or is it cause the .zip is in the same folder as the .exe ?

yes it is.
a save as and/or an option to rename the .zip when recompiling the zip would be best probably - or an error that says 'do not have the .zip you want to edit in the same folder as the .exe'
Hello Galaxy Nexus Xda Users!
Informations:
Here is a simple apk to odex automatically, easily and securely deodexed roms.
This apk has been coded by the famous Paul Obrien from Modaco Roms and Forums.
This guy is just a genious.
The original apk has been done for Galaxy S II but it works on Galaxy Nexus (tested working). --> Original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215271
Paul is even using it in his own Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 Custom Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487056
But I tested the apk on other 4.0.3 deodexed roms that you can find in the development section of the Galaxy Nexus and it is working perfectly (Aokp odexed rom is wonderful...)
Odexing a deodexed rom is giving you a boost in smoothness (you can see it in the launcher or in scrolling through system apps), performance and battery.
It gives you the flexibility to have a custom rom with modified system, framework and design AND all the tweaks that come with a custom rom in addition to the performance of an odexed stock rom.
To use it:
1) make sure you have a custom rooted rom / kernel with init.d support (scripts must be able to run at boot: it is a folder in /system/etc). It is very important or it won't run pre-boot scripts... Thanks to open1your1eyes0 who remarked it.
You can try this useful application to add init.d support to your ROM / kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849
2) make sure that you don't have transparent status bar before odexing or you will loose your bar after odexing... (for AOKP users for example). Thanks to frantic912 who noticed it.
3) simply put the apk in /system/app folder with a file browser like "Root Explorer" (the folder must be in RW mode to copy the file)
4) do a nandroid backup in cwm and / or titanium backup of all your apps (even the system ones like Gmail)
5) then go to the launcher
6) tap "Odex me"
7) follow the instructions
It will:
1) reboot your phone
2) odex all the system staying on a black screen or on the Google screen a bit longer than normally (but it's normal)
3) put a ".odex" file with each app in /system/app
4) reboot again
5) go back to home
--> You will then see your boost in smoothness!
For people who are not convinced: check that: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...e-difference-between-odexed-and-deodexed-roms
To see if it worked:
- Go to /system/app folder and see if there is a ".odex extension" for each system apk.
I attached the apk to this thread for ease of use.
Please write here your tests, opinions, questions, and thank Paul (and me for giving you this info ) for this wonderful and simple apk.
P.S. Please read reports from other users in the thread before trying the apk as some users seem to loose their status bar if they set transparency effects or some of them are having "force closes" if the rom they are using is too much themed...
P.S.2. Pay attention please, as androidphone2012 intelligently noticed, this apk can only odex *.apk files. The system framework is not odexed by it. To odex the framework too, please use the following script instead. It odexes *.apk files and Framework *.jar files too.
--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278586
If you already ran the apk to odex apk files, do not flash that zip: re-flash your ROM, GApps and MODs you're using and then flash the zip.
For your information, I tested the CM10.1 zip from the thread on my AOKP latest nightly build version and it worked flawlessly.
Looks cool. Nothing is attached to your post though.
Can I use it on other devices? (Galaxy si900)
I don't think this works. It rebooted and when I booted back and checked, there were no .odex files in the /system/app folder. Has anyone else got it working?
FYI, tested on 4.0.4 stock deodexed ROM.

So apparently I spoke to soon...
The app ran this time but after the reboot and odex process, my SystemUI wouldn't load and I ended up with no notification bar up top or any soft-keys at all. Also it was back to stock wallpaper. Not sure what happened, it looked like everything went through fine but I guess my SystemUI is borked.
Recovering from backup now...
I am not sure what caused this issue. I did have modded soft-keys and battery icon however, but I don't see why this would matter if a lot of the custom ROMs have modded soft-keys anyway. I would like to point out this was on stocked deodexed 4.0.4 ROM. If this works for anyone else, I would surely like to know. MAKE SURE you backup before trying.
Thank you Flolep

It's a system app so you can't "install" it. It has to be flashed into the ROM. I have a feeling this app is not exactly the most reliable in working with all the apks.

Well. I didn't have any problem with it... Gmail was still there and my framework and system ui didn't have any problem after reboot...
I tried with modaco 4.0.4 rom that is near stock 4.0.4 deodexed rom and I tried with heavily customized aokp latest aokp build 25 rom, configured for my needs, battery percent, toggles, navigation controls in blue, etc, etc, and all worked seamlessly...
I add to first thread to do a nandroid backup before launching the process.

I forgot that the custom ROM I'm using needs a sort of modded Gapps pack to be install via CWM.
I think here is the issue.
Worked fine for me. GSM GN on AOKP B25. Just make a backup in cwm before you do it. Worst case scenario: it boot loops, you pop the battery, boot into recovery and restore.

2.Fully installed Busybox
3. Windows computer
Instructiions:

Please note this will fail if any of the Busybox symlinks are not complete!

Mine is working, if you got some errors during the load process, I need to know.
If thing to do is check your symlinks and make sure that they are all there for busybox.
Use this to check your symlinks:https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsInN0ZXJpY3Nvbi5idXN5Ym94Il0.
If any one is missing, it could stop the install process.
On the thing about our kernel supporting init.d, the answer is not currently and that is why we have to use this program. It will allow compatibility with our kernel to have init.d.
The busbox is ok.
I can run it rom my terminal on the phone as well as adb shell.
There were no errors during installation.
Edit:
I ran the script again today.
The init.d works. the 99test did create a file in /data/local/tmp.

Running it at 50% is pretty good also. The script will at least zipalign, check for proper permissions on all apps, clean the delvik-cache, and reorganize the task manager priorities and also your ram manager settings. You should try the battery calibration script that is there also, it is really nice.

I'm going to read it through a couple times then give it a go. Did you use script manager or just terminal?

Script manager is easiest. Don't forget to use as root for all those scripts.
I did forget that it will also allow for a powershift, so you can change your settings on the fly if you need more multitasking capabilities than power savings or more power.
If you get v6 working please post any differences you notice. esp launcher re-draws. <that to me is one of the most annoying things ever. and would love to know that there is something that can be done about it

It looks like it is going to be a little tricky, but at 50% I can tell the Xperia Launcher is working better and almost never see any lag. With Nova Launcher, it just flies.
That's awesome news. What exactly do you mean by 50%... The CPU? Or what?

It reads like there are extra manual steps to get ICS fully super charged.

It does not look like the latest CWM that I put will be compatible with the extra mods, after I put the cwm together and flashed it bricked my phone. I have put my phone back to where it was before the modifications for the ICS supercharger (the service.jar and service.odex modded part) and works just fine without the additional mods, but I don't think I am going to try to mod the phone again (wife will get mad at me if I hard brick my phone).
Guys I have put together some script that will help you slim down your CM10/AOKP rom and since I was getting a lot of PM's for it I just decided to post it. Please note that this is what I personally remove and you may not want it removed. Feel free to download it and manipulate it using notepad ++. For those of you not to sure what to do post your questions and I will try and help you. For those of you who know how to manipulate updater-script Enjoy.....
Just wanna say thanks to whomever it was the originally started the script. I am not sure where I got it from but I thank you anyways...
Edit: added an English Only LatinIME apk file which cuts out a lot of bloat as well. 24megs to 5megs. Please use adb or root explorer to place in system/app. I will try and create a zip file later.
10/30 - Just added a Apps_Delete zip file that will remove Bloat and add your data/app or system/ files all at the same time. This is great if you want to restore everything in one shot like inverted gapps and your downloaded apk's.

Flash via recovery... tested with TWRP
Notepad ++ - http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.2.html
I assume we install this in recovery?
Also is there a way to script all the changes you make to rom settings from defaults?

All the changes made are listed above and yes you flash via recovery I have only flashed via TWRP but it should work with both. Sorry for any delay in responding guys I am on vacation

Since ParanoidAndroid is a firm of a cm10 rom will this work with the rom?

Honestly this should work with stock or any Hercules based rom. Just set it up with what you want removed and go at it. I do not know exactly what is loaded up with PA so I do not know what to exactly remove. The names of certain files may differ. I would compare and make changes then go for it

More space for your apps to run which also allows your system to run smoother. I can probably chop another 15 megs just with fonts. So to answer your question it does some of both.
Hi nice program, I'm on CM10. I did the following.
Flashed M10 and gapps and rebooted to recovery
Flashed the CM10 script and rebooted phone.
I still have these wallpapers on the phone
Black Hole
Bubbles
Microbes
Phase Beam
Also I would like to remove
Messaging and Face unlock.
I downloaded an installed notepad ++ but got nowhere when I tried to edit the zip file.
I'm not a total noob but failed miserably here.
OK, I figured out how to add apps to be removed, but still have the above wallpapers on the phone.(deleting manually with RootBox)
I can't find the above wallpapers in system/app using root browser so I don't know how to get rid of them.
Also I have one app on the SD card that I want to install(appwidget picker) Is it possible to add to the script?
And I want to add a notification sound(from SD card)if possible.
I'm doing the above manually now but it would be really neat if I could include them in the script.
Can you give me some hints please

Yes it can all be added, first off setup a folder on the zip file for system/media/notification and add the file there. Secondly add a folder for system/app/ and then add app widget picker. Which by the way is not needed with Apex or Nova. PM me when you do that part I am away from PC and will finish off the rest when I get home

I added a Apps_Delete zip in the OP for those who want to have all there eggs in one basket. You can now deBloat and add your inverted apps or data apps at the same time. As always fully customizable to your needs. Just add folders as needed and flash. I have tested numerous times on TWRP without error..
If I want to make some changes to the script (remove some additional programs that I don't use and not delete some items that I want to keep) - how do I do that? Can I just edit the script in the zip file?
Thanks,

Apps run in /data this cleans up /system which is only used for the ROM, this does not create any more space for the regular user unless they start installing apps as system apps and remembering to move them to the system every time they are updated. Also, removing fonts and ringtones will not make a system run any smoother. While I am at it, I'd like to point out that there is 0 evidence that more free space = faster running phone. I'm not saying there is no point to this, as I like to remove things I won't use (though with freeze/disable, these days it is less important to actually uninstall them) and keep a tighter organization going on... just that the point is not those you are making. This will not make your phone fly, fart bacon, or magically delicious. But, it can remove clutter, provide comfort to obsessive compulsive people, and therefore has its place.
PS - don't start the argument that less apps = less running processes = more faster.... Android's memory management is pretty stellar, and it has been proven that free memory is just wasted memory, and cached background processes do not interfere with an applications ability to get as much of the memory as it demands for its tasks.

The CyanogenMod team has been making good progress towards the latest, stable version of its ROM - CyanogenMod 10 - but there's still time for more features to be added before its eventual release.
One of those features is a root-enabled file manager, which was announced on the Cyanogen Google+ page a few hours ago. Judging from the screenshots, it looks to blend in seamlessly with other CyanogenMod features and the rest of the Android OS, with a really nice looking interface. (Screenshots Below)
When you're browsing through your files, you will be able to choose between three access modes: Safe mode, Prompt User mode and Root Access mode. As you'd expect, it will allow you to view files on your internal storage device as well
you can get the apk here:

Simply copy to system/app and set permissions to rw-r--r--

Doesn't work properly for me on wanam...
Very slow loading folders, only landscape, navigate only the sdcard.

No problem with root access and run quite smoothly, but I can't enter root folder..
And it's darn white, cm team needs to black or gray theme it..reverting to good old "root explorer".

+1 for root directory
there's no option for that
Got "Install failed" on Vision with CM10 unofficial. My ROM was forked from CM10 nightlies at 2012-10-30, did something related to filemanager change from that moment?
Thanks mate...

you should install this as a system app,
you can use Root Explorer for that,
in this directory "system / apps" and set correct permissions and reboot
cheers

Hey mate, not sure of your association with Cyanogen (so I maybe shooting my mouth off too soon?) but I know you have stated courtesy of Android police, but I was just wondering if you have asked someone from the Cyan team if it is ok to post this up?
They put a lot of hard work into their apps and customisations, and I know that one of their team had made mention in a post the other day that they were starting to get tired of people just automatically assuming that it's ok to post up/reproduce/hack/kang or "claim as their own" the work of the cyanogenmod team without any courtesy to contact anyone in the team and ask first?
It's like they have been labelled like a vendor and acknowledgements becoming null and void cause of 'who they are' and that people going as minimal of just stating their sources like that is enough? I mean I could be wrong in this instance, and I am only relaying the expressions of one of their team, but it maybe worth while just flicking someone a quick PM first as courtesy and second as appreciation maybe?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose? I know your right, but at the very least someone could write a script and put it in a CWM script.
Just for information sake that if you place an app in system/app that a reboot is going to be necessary anyway, and that fix permissions can be performed in recovery that will enable the correct permissions for the app anyway.
From a personal perspective, and as far as I know....most cyanogen mod apps can be installed to the phone as signatures won't clash. If it does install as a user app (as i would expect) then there is no real need to put the app in system. Why bother? RootExplorer and RootBrowser are non factory file browsers and they do not require to be installed in system/app?
Just sayin

Oh sorry to clarify and further to what I have posted above. The reason that this app probably doesn't work so well on Touchwiz ROMs like Wanams is because the app is in system and the framework is attempting to disable it because it's signatures don't match. Another reason to try installing as a normal app first.
