So I went into Best Buy last week to get my girlfriend an A100 as a gift. They were out of stock, but the guy said he could order me one from the warehouse. I paid the $259 at the store and yesterday when I went to pick it up, lo and behold its the new 10.1" A200! What do you think, did I get a steal or what?
I have an iPad 2 and I'm jealous of this thing! The unboxing photos will follow.
Some pictures of the unboxing...

Yes, the regular price is $350, so you got a bargain.
But no rear camera?
I don't understand why Acer thought they had to produce a stripped-down version of the A500.

My best guess is that they'll cease production of the A500 in favor of the A700, but before they do they are making sure to introduce it's replacement in the new price bracket.
I don't really consider rear cameras a feature. Taking pictures/videos with a tablet is not something popular.
Yeah no rear camera is a bummer, but not a huge deal. The cameras on the iPad are useless, I was kind of excited to see how the A100 stacked up.
I was buying it because she wanted the new nook tab and and for the same price I thought it was a good deal anyway. Shes actually really happy it's a 10" model because she wants to use it for studying.
So are these being sold yet? I've read they're not supposed to be out until Jan 15th.
That's a great deal. Which bestbuy did you go to? Can you take a side profile shot? I'd like to see how thin it is. As far as rear camera who cares. No one really uses it. Do you notice any stutter or lag?

Hm I'm somewhat jealous. I love my A100 but am now looking to get a 10 incher for around the house and this would be good, not sure how fussed I am about quad core, but definitely not going to use a camera on a device this size. The A700 screen does look amazing, 1080p in ten inches, might be worth waiting for?

From what Im reading the a700 is just a tech demo unit and might not even be produced to the masses. I was excited about it too. But I'm really hoping thats incorrect. I have a transformer prime now that I can still return but I have 2 days to decide. What I do like about quadcore is for majority of things its faster. Even when using HDMI it doesnt really slow down like my acer a100 which stutters quite a bit when HDMI is plugged in. And its really noticeable on my TV. The prime is super smooth. But a lot of apps are not optimized for quadcore so either it will act the same or other times it will be slower but sometimes it will be faster.
For everyday home use I think the a200 will do just fine though.
I had the same problem using hdmi on the a100 but after I upgraded to build 2.007.4, teaked my build.prop, zipaligned all my apps, tweaked dalvik and the tegra config my tab flys even using hdmi. Its just as fast, if not slightly faster than my atrix. If I could just overclock.... it would be silly fast!

I can see what you're saying, I'd absolutely love a Prime as a full blown laptop replacement but the whole GPS thing would annoy me, have you any problems with yours?
Crossix, what is this tegra config you speak of? I've been using your build.prop for a few days now and it's great, thanks

I didn't get a profile shot, but I can tell you it has about the same profile as the a100. The back also has a nice rubber material that makes it super comfortable to hold. I bought it in Idaho (twin falls). And no lag at all, it's more responsive than my ipad2 for sure.
I've had one of these since the 27th of December, picked it up for $399 NZD/$315 USD. Seems pretty solid for the price but nothing to special. One thing I noticed with mine is that the edges of the glass/screen at the corners have a bit of give and there are some kind of spots on the screen visible when there are lot's of prints/smudges on it with light shining at it.

How is the mic

I think rear camera is not essential but why should I produce a tab without it? I think is one of that thing that can be removed from a product in order to save money with the smallest loss in product's efficiently.
Isn't the a200 suppose to be tegra 3 same with the a700 if that's released?

It is a Tegra 2 "T20"
My girlfriend took it into Best Buy the other day to get a case for it and they were all gawking over it and loving it. They asked her where she got it and when she told them the story they got all defensive. It was funny. Whoever was asking about the mic, it seems to work just fine. Used it just to play around on SoundHound and stuff.
I also got this tablet last week on Saturday at bestbuy -next day I was looking for accessories online and I realized that it was not even available for sale yet.
But anyways. Its a great tablet and its upgradable to icecream sandwich.
329 and I had a $200 gift card that was given to me by best buy because they were unable to fulfil any of my items during Christmas. So paid 129...hows that for a deal

Does the A200 have HDMI out? I can't really find any references to it, although some people say that there isn't HDMI, which would be a pretty big deal breaker. Might as well just get a used A100.

I have to admit I have been a bit miffed at what Verizon has done with the Galaxy Nexus. I think it is a great phone but I think Verizon has stripped allot of what was special about being a nexus from the phone.
Apparently someone from Droid Life feels the same way. Here is their article on Verizon and the GNex
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/30/verizon-needs-google-opinion/
What are your thoughts?
This person is also wrong.. they complain about google wallet not being included but it isn't included on the GSM nexus.. it isn't part of AOSP. Also.. the only differences between Verizon and GSM include two semi useful apps that you can remove, a battery cover without Google, and no free tethering. It's not even a big deal.. most of the comments on that article bash the author anyways because he doesn't appear to know anything.

I still think the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone out there. It just seems like it is becoming less of what I thought a Nexus was. Maybe I had the wrong impression of what a Nexus was in the first place. I am no dev, I've just had the feeling it is headed in the wrong direction... slowly
Best phone I have owned.
Compared with the htc hero , desire HD , iPhone 4 , htc sensation and log optinus 3d I have owned.
+ points :
Screen , amazing simply. Colours are bright and vibrant , text and outlines are crisp. Can really tell a difference over the other phones.
Speed. No lagg what so ever , plays gta 3 perfectly whilst listening to music . Can have a little slowness if I am using a heavy live wallpaper.
Honeycomb inspired apps are fantastic. I own a Motorola Xoom which I have been totally impressed with , the music app especially are brilliant , as well as icons and multi task bars. Having it ported over to my mobile has blown my mind.
Battery life : there has been a fair few complaints but as I posted in a battery thread mine will last a day with heavy usage (will include screen shot at the end)
Quality , granted its plastic but it feels like a premium product. Doesn't have the look of the iPhone 4 but the full glass front , no button set up gives the phone a real sleek look. Back plate is flimsy but once its on it feels well built.
Camera: decent picture quality , zero shutter lagg is great . Haven't taken that many photos so I won't comment to much.
Connectivity , GPS and Bluetooth have all worked seamlessly as expected.
Only downsides :
Apps: some are still incompatible which is annoying , its new software so I wouldn't really count this as a issue as it will be fixed.
That's it really , bought this sim free for £529.99. Was unsure and really hoped I wouldn't be disappointed after I had spent that kind of money. I am happy to report that it is the best tech purchase I have made. Well done Samsung & Google , thoroughly impressed

that reporter from droid life needs to crawl out from under the rock...he is clueless!
The biggest compromise, imho, had nothing to do with Verizon, but was made by Google to Texas Instruments: the TI OMAP processor. The Samsung-made Exynos processor from the SGS2 is widely viewed as the best smartphone processor on the market, so why did Google force Samsung to compromise with the TI OMAP? Nothing against Texas Instruments (they have great products, by most accounts), but Google should have let Samsung make this phone with its own chips imho.
Yes, I definitely despise Verizon's treating of this phone as the ugly stepchild of its Android lineup (like they also did with the Fascinate), but, hey, we still have a top-shelf Samsung product on a reliable network, and with (not so reliable, but still better than HSPA) LTE to boot. Plus, it seems to me that Verizon's handling of the Gnex (and the Fascinate) is more a knock against Samsung than Google...

What do you mean by that? Subsidies in Europe are way better than the US lol. They often 100% subsidize the phone (even top-tier devices) for only a 2-year contract, and the service still costs 1/2 of what we pay in the US. AND the non-contract options are still amazing.
Don't kid yourself. We have it worse in every way here.

So guys, simple as that. I'm upgrading soon. I am wondering if any of you would have chosen a different phone, now that you have owned the Nitro HD for quite some time. If so, what phone? I'm on AT&T btw. Some people say the A2 is nice. I'm stuck deciding. Also, does anyone know when AT&T will be releasing more phones?? Tegra 3 maybe? Also, if any AT&T insiders are about, any recollection as to when they will be dropping prices again? Thanks for all input everyone!

When I had it with the stock ROM, I was having missed thoughts about it due to some lag, and bloatware, manly unused programs like Zanga Poker and some At&t software.

Something to keep in mind about the One X is that there will be 2 different versions of it. Europe gets the Tegra 3 quad core but no LTE. In the US, the AT&T One X will have LTE but will be using a Qualcomm S4 dual core instead.
I just recently upgraded after weeks of debate and I have to say i am very happy and this is with the stock rom a couple quirks here Nd there but no show stoppers I'm very satisfied and I will be even more once we get ICS officially

Looks like I might go with the Nitro after all... virturally same specs... just an ugly bulky phone. (In some peoples' opinion.)
Does AT&T usually drop prices on que with new phone releases? I looked online for the BB deal for $50 w a bluetooth headset and just got the $99.99 to show... maybe it has to be in store for the promo.
Would be nice if an AT&T rogue dropped by with some pretty enlightening information regarding release dates and prices here's to wishful thinking!

Thanks for the offer though, Scott. Why do you prefer the Iphone? Do you realize Apple manufactures these things to brick if they know you jailbroke them? Let alone shattered glass on front and back if you drop it on anything other than a pillow. :/
I prefer android because they have an open developer community, as well as more durable phones for the most part, if you're going to chunk your phone b/c ur mate pissed you off and you don't have a case on it, you are on your own there. For most of us though, our phones will only suffer a drop from pocket or head height. Aprox 6 ft drop. Take this food for thought >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKJp9EMRjXY <<< drop test between the Galasy S2 and Iphone 4
With cm9 this phone is prolly better than any phone at the market right now, even at&t's htc one x wont be much better than the nitro..
Only downside is the battery, i'm carrying 2 extra batterys to survive 24hrs away from the power plug, but thats because i use it a lot, when its idling it doesnt use that much(like 8/10% on 8hours sleep)

Do you use juice defender or a screen filter for less power consumption? These two things usually increase my battery life on X device almost twice the normal runtime.

How exactly did you manage to brick your phone sir? Usually it's due to impatience and pulling the battery/usb cord. I've done this before w my cappy. Luckily they are virturally unbrickable... with a jig.

Hello,
I want opinions to help me decide, is not a topic to fight.
I would like the opinion of the staff, I am very sad with my one X, Tegra slow in new games of big producer, low battery life without the possibility of change (forget battery covers), I'm thinking of selling it more add about 150 to 200 dollars and get the galaxy note 2 . I like the large screen, the games are running well and it has great advantages. Like 2 gigs of ram, screen control by looking among other things that everybody knows.
I would like the opinion of you. I would be buying the new phone selling my Onex, I will not buy it all, would you do it?
If I could afford it... Yeah.. But then again I would have to buy a little phone to use as "phone" to have with me with work etc.. Because I think I would get tired of carrying the monster as soon as I want to quick send a text with one hand... I already feel bad in my hand after some one hand texting with my one x :s
Skickat från min HTC One X via Tapatalk 2
I wouldn't buy anything larger than a one x, im fed up with Android producers, fighting who produces a larger phone :/, anyways i find it a great choice to replace tablets. If you are comfortable with the size then its a good option.
Note 2 is am excellent piece of kit. The battery is on another level. The S-Pen is a joy to use and once you go big you can't go back to a smaller device.
Also consider the Nexus 4 but too early to tell if battery will last as long.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I really want to see the J butterfly or DNA in the flesh. I wanna see how that form factor is, because its definitely better than the gargantuan note ii. Its a shame its only US and Japan for now.
And I'm not selling my One X for at least another year.
No other 5" device will be unique as the Note simply due to the S-Pen which sets it apart from just a normal 5" phone.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
But I hate touchwiz, and I'm sure I won't use the stylus after a month or so hence HTC makes more sense . The only thing to <3 about the Note II is the INSANE battery life for me.
If you don't mind looking ridiculous whenever you sack you phone to answer a call, go for it...
Trust me, I had seen some, and always looks wrong to had a phone with this size.

I bought a Note this year in february. I sold it in august because the following: crappy TW, Samsung's software update lies and delays, piece of sh*t samoled pentile display, overheat specially in the summer with only 2 cores. I will never buy Samsung phone ever again, and I don't want a big S3. I bought my One X in september. It was love in the first sight and this love is still exist after 2 months

I have a Note 10.1 and was thinking of getting a Note II when they were first released so I could share S-Note's between them. But with a tablet, I really don't need or want a phone as big as the Note II. I can carry my One X easily on a belt clip or slip it in to a pocket which is harder to do with anything larger. I also prefer Sense much more than TW from a productivity perspective. For someone who either doesn't have a tablet or doesn't want to carry it with them around town I could see a 5+" phone as a reasonable splitting of the difference. The Note 10.1 has a dialer so sometimes I'll foward calls and MMS from my One X to it so I only need to carry one device. There really isn't a right or wrong answer once you're past 4.7/4.8" which to me is the cut-off for something to be called a "phone."

You mean like this?
I have one of these which can also be used with the Note II. It's a little (maybe not much) less rediculous.
Do not mind me going through ridiculous to other people answering the phone, I do not care who they think, I think it's cool to be big screen to access the internet and play, I do not really use the phone to talk, send more messages sms / gtalk / facebook to talk about. The screen from what I read the review of various site is great, much better than the Note1 and also the galaxy s3, the Onex is the best with your IPS, more than Note2 was great. I like the sense, but after almost three years using the same get sick, I'm not supporting the same. I find it slow. The S3's with my friend TW is much faster than my phone with Sense. Clearly when you place an animated wallpaper, the sense drags on, the TW in s3 stays the same.
I am extremely disappointed with the ONEX, the battery is unable to replace it with a larger, has no card slot and TEGRA is disappointing me in games. Okay that has beautiful games running on TEGRA (dead trigger), but they also run on Exynos. And still others run not run on TEGRA, and gameloft most wanted. And I'm sure that will not improve. It left me extremely frustrated, because it is a very expensive phone with a whole "bla bla bla" and suffer to run games that run on soft s2 s3 and even a friend of mine.
The only thing that holds me to Onex is the CM10, which is a spectacle, only the battery that is not with a good length. So I am wanting to use the opportunity that comes from a friend and bring a USA Note2 worth about $ 650, and seeing mine here for about 500-600 dollars and pay the difference.

Are you kidding me? You're saying about the lack of sd slot and unchangable battery. How come you bought it and get dissapointed with these thing? Don't you look on specs when you buy sometnhing that costs over 500 bucks?
And than, 4,7 is still ok to use it with one hand (ok, I have big hands, but I can't complain at all). With 5,5 it is problematical. Even if you dont call to much, you still have to use it in emergancy situations with one hand.
Although both note phones a really nice devices, I can't call them phones any more, they are phablets, smartlets but not phones.
Nevertheless my first choice in smartphones for next 4 month is nexus 4, it blows every phone away costing only 350 bucks. Its up to you, if you can afford it go on, but I just morally can't spend over 600, when some phone with same features plus with newest updates in next to years costs the half of it

My first option was the nexus 4, I found it wonderful, but it has two problems: 1. 16 gigas very little space. So music videos and photos I have almost 10 gigs, so do not serve. 2nd. The first battery of tests it turned out very badly, even worse than Onex. When I told another battery was to have the option to do this. Example, my sensation had a battery of 1580mha, put one of the mugen 1950mha using the same original back door, the phone was perfect, with an optimal duration of battery. In the case of Onex has no way to do anything, because I could have a mugen battery 2300mha without replacing the original back door. But this is not possible since the Onex has no way to replace the battery, that's what I meant.
I thought 1800mha to Onex would be great, but that is not what showed. I might have the solution of another battery but I have not. Not to mention the problems with the tegra 3 games.

The Nexus 4 will probably end up performing the same as the Galaxy s 3. Now while the nexus 4 is sealed, if you have followed the new closely, it shouldn't take much effort to have the battery exchange. So in this case i find it can still be changed.
Better than the One X it is.
Well, my personal opinion is that no samsung device deserves what it costs.
TW, material quality etc.
I won't say a thing about the size, though it is really bad for me but not for you.
I would actually go for a One S sized ONe X, if it existed.
Yes browsing can be better with big screens but, it will never ever be like a laptop experience, so no need to push the limits for something that will never replace the old habit.

I'm asking for opinions because it is an opportunity to buy cheap Note2 because in my country it costs $ 1100. And you have to agree with me that this price is surreal. I wanted to take my friend who is coming. I like ONEX, but he's disappointing me is sad to see my friend's S3 ending my Onex in several respects. Be the TW with its interesting features is the speed. I want other people's opinions, because I might as well give up and wait for the next generation, because someone can say, "look I know a guy who has the same Note2 and sucks this or that."
Now one thing that is undeniable is his lack of education. Instead of giving a constructive opinion insult me saying I'm Schizophrenic. But from what I know of your culture, you do not have the same education. Sorry if your Republican candidate did not win and thank you for leaving.

Okay, I've had the Optimus G (OG) for about a week now, and I can honestly say I enjoy it more than the GS3 I owned for a few months. I've lurked XDA a lot but figured I'd post this impressions thread in hopes of helping others out who are on the fence. I know I was definitely deciding between these 2 phones, and these kinds of posts really helped me.
Hardware and build quality are A LOT better. I've already had a few comments from strangers when they see me playing with my phone (case-less for now, eek).. asking "hey what phone is that?" or "that looks sleek"
It feels more premium in your hand and the sleek black with a touch of chrome makes it look a lot better than the cheap plastic of the GS3 in my opinion. The front/bezel is purely black (and by this, I mean when the screen's off, the entire front is pure black) and for whatever reason, it just looks sexy with the rest of the black phone. Also, it feels better in your hand... like you're holding something of quality.
Software-wise, I'll be honest I didn't go default with either phone. I love Nova Prime launcher for the gestures. (I set up double tap screen for opening camera, swipe down to bring up navigation is clutch when driving, amongst other gestures). I can say though, I've used the quickmemo A LOT more than I thought I would. It's nice to just pull it up to scribble down a quick note... I mean that's the only kind of notes that I take on my cell phone anyway. Then, you can store it in your picture gallery or your notepad app. I haven't used Qslide at all... especially because it doesn't work on YouTube and I don't watch movies on my cell phone.
Speaking of software, you will definitely notice how faster, quicker, and instant everything is on the OG. It's a snappy phone. I never thought the GS3 had lag, but after using the OG, you definitely notice it. I've tried to slow/lag it down... opening up navigation, youtube videos, browser, texting, etc at once and everything is just fluid. VERY impressed with the quad core snap dragon.
The screen is noticeably more vibrant. I'm never too picky on screens though.
I really don't have any gripes on the phone itself. My only concern is the lack of exposure it has. Not many cases or accessories if you're into that and not really that much buzz... considering everything this phone has inside.
Having said that, it kind of makes me feel like I have something special in my hands with this phone. It makes it more unique and luxurious... if that makes sense.
As long as it gets software support, I am extremely happy with my decision so far. The GS3 is popular, will have great product support, and lots of people have it... so it has that sense of community (as Apple does). But all of that stuff really doesn't mean much to me in owning a phone besides the product support.
After having this device for a couple of days i thought it was time to post my thoughts on it.
First off... build quality is amazing. Finally feels like I'm holding an expensive device. Was able to get a case for it at best buy the day i bought it. Put a zagg hd screen protector on it so my phone is protected. Sound quality is pretty good and the camera isn't bad once you change some settings.
Software is great too. Love the little things they did and love the layout. I too installed Nova Launcher after playing around with the stock one for a day. This phone is fast and cant wait for some aosp rom to come out or even better cyanogen mod (crossing fingers).
Gaming is amazing too. The Amazing Spiderman game from Gameloft runs with no lag whatsoever. 2Gbs of ram really help out and should be a standard on phones.
The screen is just awesome.
Battery life varies depending on what you are doing or what you use a phone for which is true for any device. I can easily go a full day and still have 50% percent left by turning off sync and data connection and only turning them on when i need to use them. When i play games the battery goes down fast too but im playing graphic intense games and usually am close to a charger when i do.
Playing movies looks awesome and the dolby mobile enhances the sound even more when headphones are used.
Overall this is my six android phone in three years and by far the best I've owned or touch (my wife has a galaxy s3 which i told her to get since she uses her phone as her primary camera). Def recommend it.

What kind of settings did you change with the camera? I don't think it's all that bad, but am open to suggestions.
I have the default and the Camera Zoom FX app
Also, how do you take screenshots?
Take screenshots by using quickmemo. Just dont draw anything and hit the save icon. I'm not for sure what all i changed since i reset it to default. Just play around a bit you can reset camera to defaults in the camera settings

I'm currently on the S3 and I've seen an RF sheet that shows the Optimus G has overall, the best signal strength out of any other device on Sprint. The issue is whether or not I can put up with the lack of development support. I know it's new and all but there's not much action as of yet. On the GS3, we had people upload ROMs before the phone was out!
Also - I just purchased a 32GB sd card that would be useless on the LG so I'm kind of at a stalemate. I'm just torn pretty much. I like the LG Optimus G's performance and UI (Samsung's stock UI is disgusting on Jellybean). Also the quad core would be nice. But I'm kind of a signal freak. I'm a big fan of s4gru and I literally drive to local towers on a week basis to check network vision progress lol. Biggest reason behind wanting an LG is the signal strength. In bestbuy, my phone had varied from -89-99dBm on EvDo while the LG Optimus held a steady -83-88dBm. This means the LG is more secure with holding onto a signal than the GS3 is and that is fact, according the to RF sheets provided by FCC documentation.

(The higher the number, the better). The LG and Motorola Photon appear to be the best in terms of signal strength. Surprisingly, Samsung's GS3 is of the lowest!
I think if your on the fence about the microSD card. Consider this.
On my previous phone, I had a 64gb microsd card, which housed a large amount of my data-videos, ebooks, music, etc.
However, when I switched to this phone, and was transferring my data, I slowly realized that a lot of that data was useless. They were either books I previously read, songs that I didn't really listen to, so I then got a premium account on spotify, and videos that I should really just delete after I download.
All in all, I was capable of using only 10GB of my 32gb. And, I feel like I haven't missed a beat with storage. And this includes having a PSX emulator, Chrono trigger, and chaos rings on the device.
Also, the response time of apps opening is much faster when stored on main disk.

I've decided to stick it out with galaxy s3 mostly due to expandable battery and SD card slot. Still very tempting though lg!

So far very impressed coming from 3d, still no root, navigation of screens is a little difficult, but sure when root and dev kicks in this will not be problem.
Big plus for me is battery and most importantly signal. Tried HTC LTE on launch and signal worse on 3d, this is by far the best signal I have had on Sprints crappy. Network in Arizona. Speed and performance amazing, though awesome on 3d with custom kernel and tweaks with antutu at 8000ish, higher now of course with no tweaks.
Want to wait for quad core HTC or maybe Samsung, but need change and BestBuy price last few days $100 decided to try. Thinking will be keeping, next week will determine.

I'm liking mine very much so far. What do you mean "No Root yet", I've ben rooted for 4 or 5 days now atleast. Anyways it's a shame I have to keep his sexy sleek thing in a case just to keep me from going crazy thinking somethng will happen. I just hope they are willing to develop the software that'll push the 13mp lens to its fullest potential, far better than my Evo3D was but I see room for improvement still. Fast fast fast...just the way I like em, even without tweaks this thing is fast enough for me. Just with root alone I'm happy running my apps like WifiTether, don't need it any faster so I probaby won't run anything custom yet when it comes out. Overall very happy, was wanting an HTC quad core but not willing t wait till next spring so here I am with an LG-OG in my hands
Noticing a lot of parallels with this phone and the LG G2/G3. Particularly in design. I've had a lot of different phones over the past year (One M8 GPE, OPO, MotoX, Nexus 5), and I keep going back to my G2. I really love this phone, the form factor, feel, and the volume on the back, it's just such an awesome phone. So when I saw this new offering by Asus it kind of peaked my interest.
A bit on the fence though. Immediately I saw one thing I'm not too thrilled about... fat bottom bezel. Would much rather had a shorter phone with onscreen navigation. That issue aside, few questions/concerns, and any input is appreciated....
- Does Android really dramatically benefit from 4GB of memory yet? or is this more of a future proof measure?
- Atom Z3580 vs Snapdragon 800. I honestly have little to no issue with my G2, for a phone that is 2 years old, the processor holds up rather nicely. I don't know a whole lot about Atom as a mobile platform, but is this comparable or better? Same concern with the GPU, PowerVR vs Adreno... I've always been under the impression PowerVR is pretty dodgy.
- Camera is somewhat important to me. I've read mixed reviews on the Toshiba sensor in it. The G2 isn't too shabby tbh, however, I noticed the Zenfone has a much wider aperture (f2.0 vs f2.4), and the FFC is also 5MP vs the 2.1MP on the G2. Can't seem to find any definitive answer on if the Zenfone has OIS, does anyone know for certain? Opinions on the camera??
Huge selling points for me is the SD card and dual SIM, two things the G2 doesn't have. Anyone else in the same boat, debating if it's worth upgrading from a G2?
I was actually with a similar dilemma, I could get a cheap g2 or the 550ML, decided for the zenfone at the end. since I have the 2 gig version I wouldn't know about the benefits. processor is snappy and the phone flies, tried a few games on it and no issues (dead trigger 2 and plants vrs zombies). little to no heat when playing ingress (gps and data enabled, screen on most of the time). got mixed feelings on the camera. no OIS as far as I know, night mode is impressive, but noise is really noticeable.
auto no flash

I upgraded from my G2 but only because it randomly shuts down and reboots, among other issues. Also the SGX from imagination is what Apple uses in their mobile devices so I wouldn't call it buggy at all. Perhaps the implementation of bad drivers has caused it to be poor with some devices.
So far I've used it for a few hours & while I miss custom ROMs on the G2 the stock ASUS ROM is usable. Can't comment on the camera because I don't take pics frequently.
Performance seems better, can't say whether games are better yet until I load a few.
If your G2 doesn't have the issues mine does then I wouldn't recommend upgrading. You would be better off saving your money for the next Zen or whatever.
"I'd Totally Hug You, If That Was Something I Did"
I actually have my ZF2 CN version up on eBay right now, and am pondering whether to go with the US version or the LG G2. Lack of LTE wasn't a deal killer but the HSPA+ signal wasn't always dependable and two of my more frequently used video streaming apps force closed immediately upon opening (watch TNT) or upon loading a video (Xfinity to go). Right now I found a new Verizon G2 that also works on GSM networks for $150 and I also found a way to hide tethering on the G2 so that the carriers can't track the volume so I'm leaning that way right now.
I think I'm gonna pull the trigger and buy one. I guess if I don't like it I can always throw it on Swappa.

At the lowest brightness the ZF2 is brighter than the G2's minimum...but the ZF2's max is visibly lower than a G2 at max. This will give you an idea of how it may work outside until I try it out tomorrow.

If you care about camera, don't get this phone. I have it, and zooming into pictures shows just how horribly noisy the image is. But I knew this before buying the phone - check out the camera compare tools on gsmarena.com and you will see just how bad this sensor is. Ability to resolve detail and extreme dithering are present. Maybe the sensor is really only as good as a 5 MP. Is the camera still good enough for what I want? Yes. I bought it because it's really really cheap and overall an amazing phone for the price.

I've got the latest firmware update which seems to have reduced camera noise which is good news. I haven't looked to see how much better it is. I didn't expect they could or would improve it. Kinda happy with Asus upgrading the software 3 times since I got the phone. At least they care to fix what they can.
