Good luck. I went through three different phones before someone actually confirmed it was a problem and it should be fixed with ek02, but it isn't.
I am on EL26 and I had a LOS the other day. I know because I have Tasker set to reboot my phone when it happens.
Yea, this whole thing is ridiculous. I am rooted, running LoStKernal v 2.6.35.7, and have the EL13 modem software. I would try the EL26, but am still on G/B version EG30. Also running Tasker, so I know it happens as well, usually every other day in an area with a very strong signal. The only reason I am not overly pissed about the whole situation is due to Tasker rebooting it for me. Most times I don't even know it happens till I go to return a text to someone and see it there. Phone sits on toolbox, not in pocket.

I have had this phone for almost 3 months now. I am on ek02 modem. had my first los 2 days ago, phone was in locker at the gym, 0 bars on 3g, I believe the phone was on 4 g that day and has a good signal on 4 g. well I didn't pay attention to the phone put it on my side and when I got in my car I saw the red l o s circle. now I was driving in the area with good signal, I tried several things to get the phone service to come back. only a reboot fixed it, pure l o s ! no when I leave it in the locker on 3g, I get no l o s. I think my problem is the 4 g sleeps too much. once in 3 months is in bad I can live with that. I love this phone !

Wasting your time with EK02 and you will definitely get hit with LoS, change the modem to the recent EL13, EL26 and/or EL29 and you will be worry free.
Haven't had LOS since EG30.
It burns when I tapatalk...
I got Los on sensation 2.0 i think that's what its at atm. Last night and all morning kinda sucks.

Ok I'm finally gonna ask. Is the LOS just the signal bars all shaded dark grey or actually a "X" or the do not enter sign? I have never had the LOS which I take it as the "X". I never read a thread about it cuz I never had it, but my colored in 5 bars sometimes is completely greyed out but the signal icon is always there.

Its a circle with a slash through it. Although there is a thing called "ghost" LoS where it still shows you have signal, but text and calls don't go through.

I'm on el26, and had los today, while using the navigation. also, the gps on google map was really off, and i decided to switch to el29. el29 seems to be little bit slower on 3g network down load speed, and much slower on upload speed, compared to el26, but i think it's worth it for the stability of gps signal.
Out of curiosity, are those of you still getting LOS using matching ROM and modem? I find that I have odd signal problems when I mix them. The last LOS I had was on stock EG30 with EG30 modem.
I always keep the modem marching the ROM, and I haven't had one since. I go in and out of roaming all day due to the size of the building I work in, so it had plenty of opportunity to go LOS.

I will admit that mine was mixed, only because I was using LoStKernal which was based on the EG30. I did take the time last night (while my better half was out getting us some daiquries) to flash mine to EL13 across the board. Will try this and see how it goes.
What was wierd about the whole thing, is that I expect to have LOS at home, signal sometimes roams there. But at work in the middle of Baton Rouge with perfect signals showing on phone, that's irratating.
im on Unnamed 2.0.1 and el29 we shall see how it goes

I'm sure sprint is just doing maintenance on the tower but this is the second time that I've lost data after midnight. I know it isn't the phone because I checked another sprint phone and its doing the same thing. Right now I'm on 4g. I should speed test it. Its either that or wifi. In the morning I'm sure it will be back up.
It actually happened to me earlier like a full blown los with the circle with the line through it but it came back like right after it happened which it usually doesn't

Same issue here. I first thought I messed up my modem by flashing ek02 from eg30, but I noticed with fb21 modem that it's more stable. However, my wi-fi is less stable. Weird stuff.

I've been seeing 1x show up sporadically over the past couple of weeks, too. Poos up for a minute or two, then goes back to 3g. This is in places where I've always had steady 3g coverage.

I've been having a similar problem. Additionally, it's been taking longer for my phone to reconnect to 3g after losing WiFi or 4g connectivity.
It turns out that after 12 hours I still didn't have data. I called *2 and they said there wasn't an outtage. I am at work so I wouldn't get home to call on different phone to troubleshoot for another ten hours. I went back into recovery and did full wipe of everything and the full format zip. I then installed a rom full install and flashed the el29 modem then rebooted. It worked. I think when restoring a nandroid then flashing a modem it hosed the 3g. Its fixed now. Funny how when I tried to restore it said one was corrupted. Weird
Same to me me today. Had full signal but no data or txting ... Was like wtf

My 3g icon stays on even if I disable 3g data. Really weird

I work for a cell phone provider and we partner with sprint as a roaming partner.. We had tons of calls coming in on the day you made the post of data loss.. Tier 1 troubleshooting and a little bit of probing questions and finally a call to tech support we found most with he issue were roaming.. We checked our AAA tool and switch and verified with the customer that they were roaming on the sprint network.. After calling tech.. We were advised that sprint had a nationwide data outage.. People were having no data at all, intermittent, slow, timed out connections, and they ha no ETA.. It caused a bunch of havoc, i cant have my phone on at work but before and after it did work fo me.. Im in phx with no 4g here.. However im either at work or at home.. And when im home im on wifi.. So i rarely have time to test sprints network.. I also have the airave at home.. What i do know tho, is sprints network isnt the best, and they would never admit to a network fail like that.. Then again could have been there associate and didnt know what he was saying..
Edit: entire ride home, and on airave is 1x.. Ive had 3g icon come on constantly and stay on even with wifi on and 3g off completely.. Also had gps get stuck on.. Had to reflash the rom for that one

I can't get and explanation as to why I live 5 blocks from 4g coverage yet require and air rave and have spotty coverage. Very disappointing that I cant my moneys worth for the $10/month premium data fee.

I ran speed test after flashing the FD24 modem and they were horrible. I just flashed the FD24 kernel to match and there is a huge difference for the better, almost tripled the download speed and doubled on upload. I am on AOKP for the time being.

I had flashed the fd24 modem and it broke my mms so i went back to fd19. However, once the aosp fd24 kernal was out, i flashed both.... and BAM!! MMS is working again and so far speeds seem much faster. Wireless tether doesn't lag and i'm happy so far.
Just my experience
Initially it was really bad. I couldnt update the profile or PRL but after a reboot everything got quite better. I have ALWAYS gotten 1.4 something upload on 4G and that's definitely changed a bit. Latency is kinda cruddy.

if you're looking for the AOSP kernel just go get it from TCP's page on AndroidFileHost. That seems to be a good place to check periodically for new aosp kernels and roms.

Well, I said that to say you cant run speedtest at like 2 am (where your speeds are likely to be HIGHER), and then flash a new modem at 3pm, test it, get low speeds (peak hours) and say the modem sucks, and speeds arent comparable to a previous modem. You need to test them at nearly the same time.
So what's the verdict?

Test the modem at various hours over the course of a full week, including weekends. If you get high and low speed tests, then the problem is likely at Sprint and has nothing to do with your modem.
OK, so my results have been mixed, I haven't tried the FD24 modem with the FD24 kernel yet only tried the FD24 modem along side the FD19 kernel, but I've had much faster speeds with the FD19 kernel/FD19 modem and the FD24 kernel/FD19 modem. Same speeds no matter the kernel.
Does thebkernel really affect modem speeds?

That's actually pretty bad for 4G. That download speed is what would be expected of a 'good' 3G connection, in the areas where Sprint has upgraded backhaul.

Things are relative. A modem is not going to make a bad area all of a sudden better. The problem with most Sprint areas which have speed issues is the backhaul is overloaded. So as an analogy, a new wifi driver is not going to suddenly make your DSL WAN connection turn into a FIOS connection. If it doesn't make your connection worse or things are slightly better, than that should be a sign of good things for most people. You want the radio to allow you the full potential that is available *in your area*. The radio isn't going fix endemic problems in your area, you just want it to not make things worse.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
What I do is reboot to recovery, clear cache and dalvik, flash modem, reboot, update profile then prl then reboot. Sometimes you need to try again on profile/prl. If it doesn't take by the third time then something isn't right. I don't know how to fix that either.
I have been getting pretty good speeds on FD26, however, I started getting frequent LOS today. Was at a music festival earlier, and thought it may be an issue with overloaded towers, but it just LOS'd again at home. I haven't had an LOS issue since pre EL29. Flashed to FB24 a few days ago, then FB26 (nodata) yesterday. Considering doing a full wipe and reflash to see if it cures the issue.

Oops, my bad. I'm used to seeing speeds in bit-terms.
I like it. Smooth overall, i have no major complaints. I have noticed areas where i normally have minimal service, i now have none, and my 3g speeds are terrible. However sprint is also doing some major overhauling, so im going to blame sprint. Ive compared my phone to my wifes stock el29, and i think each user will have a different feel towards things. I love the lockscreens and smoother transitions fd26 has, but i think in my area staying stock is in my best benefit as far as service goes....Looks like if i want my service back i might have to go back to el29. SFHUB, do you think its possible that maybe all the sprint network changes could be the reason for my bad 3g data speeds and poor connections? My wifes phone see's 3g and shows it, maybe 1 or 2 bars, and i show none....however she cant browse online or do anything...just make a phone call....i can do that to....what do u think? I formatted all and did a fresh flash from el29 to fd26 btw....(also im in niles,IL and chicago,IL)
If your wife's e4gt gets signal, then it is probably the modem/kernel in FD26 causing you issues. Also check to see if they are on the same PRL and try update profile.
If that doesn't help, try ##72786# reset from the dialer, you'll need your MSL which you can get using "getprop ril.MSL" in adb shell.
I can't believe no one is bringing this up. When I decided to drink the kool-aid and updated my phone to ICS, I noticed a huge drop in my speedtest result. In 4G, I used to get speed 2-4x faster than 3G. Ever since I upgraded to ICS, my 4G speed is unstable and it is now speedtesting at less than my 3G speed. Does anyone know what is going on? I have tried 4 different ICS rom and modem, they all do the same thing. I am currently on the official sprint patch, same exact problem again. When I flash back to Gingerbread, my speed skyrockets back up to where it should be. Anyone know what is going on? I can't believe no one is bringing this up.
Same problem here, I don't get it. Is everyone else not having the problem or just cool with it?

The OP meant to say our Epic 4G Touch, and he is correct. It varies by region and it doesn't seem to affect everyone, but for those who are affected, the difference is noticeable (in my case, about 8-10mbs on gb versus 2-3mbs on ics). Course, this issue has existed since the first ICS roms were leaked as well as all of the AOSP based ics roms. Based on previous threads, there are people getting 8-10mbs on ICS roms so I'm pretty sure it isn't affecting everyone...just some.
Same problem here... Knox TN ... It sucks BC I don't have internet and rely on my tether. Is there a dev working on a fix? If not, I'll donate to anyone that can

It is the Sprint Epic 4G touch Galaxy whatever crap name they give it. Anyway it is definitely related to ICS because I flashed multiptimes back to Gingerbread and I was getting speeds that were 8x faster. Now i am stuck at like 1200kbps at best with ICS. I would have stayed on Gingerbread if I can get the tether to work. My rooted EL29 cant seem to bypass the Sprint block anymore.
Turn 4g off, update profile and prl, turn 4g back on. Sometimes reboot
Sprint has been working on towers in area 13 miles south of los Angeles. Just tested and great speed now! Thanks Sprint. On blue Kuban custom ICE ROM. Top two are 4G, ...3G. ... and bottom WiFi with time Warner sucks

Knoxville TN here as well. Near the Halls Crossroads area if you know where that's at. No 4G and 3G sucks so bad I have to use a corporate PRL and Roam Control to have data in half the places I go. Sucks cause I can't run AOKP all the time I would like too due to the data issues. Nothing you can really do other then use QPST and use a corporate PRL. It helps dramatically.

I then flashed the EL29 modem and used ff18 but still received very slow 4g speeds. I have to assume that this is a kernal issue, not the modem. I've tried updating PRL and profile, even putting different PRL's on (sprint corporate 11119) and had no increase in speeds.
Either way, forget ICS. Its great but its not worth the crappy data speeds so I'm back to EL29.
Why don't you go to aokp/cm9

because its exactly the same.

Same problem here, I don't get it. Is everyone else not having the problem or just cool with it?

Modems have different effects for everyone. Hundreds of users had tested FF18 prior to the OTA, plenty of talk happened before the OTA.
Flash a different modem if your performance is that bad see if it clears up for you. I get great 4G speeds. Only a couple of modems were troublesome for me and it was usually GPS not network speeds though had a couple that 3G was screwed on.
This thread is ridiculous, my speeds are the same on ics. The variations in speed are due to crappy sprint (and clear) service not android version.

You're ridiculous, not the thread. Did you even read it?
Sitting at my desk with a VERY solid 4g connection, if I install FF18, I get ~.5mbps down and 1.5mbps up
Flash a stock EL29 I get 12+mbps down and 2+mbps up.
Explain how that is crappy service?

Really didn't know touchwiz is the same as cm9/aokp. Smartass.
I've gotten faster speeds on cm9 than ics touchwiz that's why I suggested it.

Flash the EL29 modem back and see if your phone, area likes it.
I get between 8 and 15 Mbps and ALWAYS get 1.4 Mbps Up. I currently run the FF18 modem and I have had the same experience on most of the modems. Like your current experience upload seems to not get much of a wrench thrown in it.
I honestly don't have time to test all these out myself, and i wanna see in your guy's opinion which build is the best
f103 has some annoying lil bugs that bother me, that also carry on to FI25
but yeah, tell me which ya'll think is the best
well FI03 has the Slow 4G bug fix, and i like the contacts shortcut in the phone app. which is missing in the other two builds.
I have tried all three and prefer FI03.
I have no issues with FI25

FI03 is the best for me.
FI25 Nah!
FI03 Nice 3G Speed and features.
FH13 Most balance and battery friendly. (on it right now pure Stock) 22+hrs battery Moderate use.

Never ran fh13 but but the fi builds are similar in battery life for me. I like the native usb/mtp switch option in fi03
FH13

My vote is for CM9 beta 1 if you like the feel of aosp. I get similar battery life to those in this thread, and get the aosp goodies like lock screen widgets.

Here's a crazy thought..... What if i used MIUI with an sense themed android launcher?... I could get it a lot closer to the sense.look and feel than i could with touchwiz, just a thought

Honestly you are going to get opinions from across the board. I'm currently running Kobridge's FI25 with FI25 modem and kernel and it's stable as sh%t. Everything works, no WiFi drop offs and battery is good. Though I've been switching and flashing ROMs for a few days and will be flashing another tomorrow (Re-Calked). I go for smoothness and performance over battery. I don't get wood over a battery that lasts beyond a day like some folks here. I mean it shouldn't die after a couple hours but still. Good battery for me is at least 8 hours with half of that screen time with loads of calls - it is an actual phone for me. And there are things you can do to increase batter on any build. It's 2012 and if you don't have multiple chargers and or batteries available you probably have other issues you should look at. But that's just me.
My 4G speeds are great when I'm within an area that has it and it's unobstructed - I live in the Northwest, so trees. My 3G speeds are good 600+kbps and with the later builds I'm getting reception where I had none or very poor. And on Kobridge's last build I haven't had the WiFi sleep/drop off that I had on other ROMs where after sleeping the WiFi reception went down; it would still connect but would be very poor and the only fix was a reboot.
You will truly have to see what works for you on your phone. Once you get a routine down for flashing it is actually pretty quick to go between builds get them working the way you want them. Then backup and do restores etc.
Welcome over to the E4GT, have fun and good luck.

Thanks.. lol I know how to flash roms quickly and easily but I work 12 hours a day 12 days straight.. I'm asking because I'm curious on which I should work on from a development standpoint.. I already have battery tweaks in line and are working pretty well..

I completely understand the work issue. I'm so swamped I flash when I can and do what little tweaking I can while I can. This group had even inspired me to resurrect my caveman coding brain.
The devs in this section are very good and more importantly supportive.
Hope you find all you need.

From a dev stand point i would say that fi03 has the best ui, but its also the hardest to work on. Kinda quirky if things aren't done just right on it. Fh13 was a solid build with no issues i could see, but again its not as nice if a ui interface such as the contacts and phone apks. ...and i haven't even ran fi 25 yet.

Yeah working on f103 is a pain in the contacts/phone especially since I'm trying to do an inverted look
I might try out fh23 I've heard a lot of good things about it

used FI03 and loved it even in stock glory
but since past 10 days using GALXY FI03 based and loving it
smooth and very efficient when used with FI03kernel+agats recovery combo from aGAT
( the ROM comes with .5.4 recovery and kernel combo from AGAT though)
extended toggels in it are a real treat plus i am using the FI03 aosp lockscreen on it
so not missing nything at all.
