[Q] 8/1 Froyo Update?

Sorry if this has been addressed in another thread. I didn't see one dedicated to it and it's a hard thing to search.
So the update is available again today, Sunday 8/1. Does anyone know if it's still the 3.26.651.3 release? I installed one of the rooted ROMs and just wanted to know if I need to worry about updating again (to a newer rooted ROM) due to a newer official version.

Also, running one of the current ROMs means that you should plan to update. All of them have some kinks. They're very fresh.

Where did you see a new update posted? Please link to whatever you are getting that from...

No updates available for my phone using the settings..system updates (tho I am on the leaked 2.2)

I think he's referring to sprints post about froyo being available the week of 8/1.
Htc said the current froyo wasn't final so yes you will need to update again.

I did a manual HTC software update on my wife's unrooted Evo at about 8PM (pacific) and got a message saying an update was available.
I haven't installed it, but I did download it. Can anyone tell me where it's saved to?

Dare yea to take the update then tell us if you are still rooted.

Wait. So you installed the unrooted update, then got a notification that an update is ready on the same phone? Should be safe, just make sure the version numbers are different.
EDIT: Think you can copy it off the phone and post it somewhere?

No, sorry for the confusion. I have two phones; my rooted Evo and my wife's unrooted Evo. I installed the rooted ROM on my phone. I was curious on Sunday to see if the "official" update was available for manual updaters, as some sources had suggested, so I did a manual HTC software update on my wife's stock 2.1 unrooted phone. I was offered an update for the new 3.whatever/1.47whatever update (I don't have it in front of me)
I'd be happy to upload it, but I'm not sure where's it's stored. It didn't seem to be in the SD card's root, or under downloads. does anyone know where it would be?

Why "trolling?"
I'd really like to know why someone tagged this with "trolling." What did I do that you'd call me a troll? All I did was ask a simple question about the update I got on my phone on Sunday.
I have to say, while not the most unfriendly place I've ever visited, it's pretty ****ing close. You guys are constantly at each other's throats and constantly insulting each other. I've never seen the word "troll" used as much as I have here. I've never seen so much ridicule and flaming over nothing.
Some people are actually pissed off (and actually insulting people!) because some other users dared say they weren't impressed with Froyo. Are you ****ing serious? Really? That bothers you? Holy ****; you really need to get a life. Others were actually put off by the idea of starting an "off-topic" thread in the Evo group! Talk about not having enough to worry about! I've seen a poster called a fanboy and a troll because he simply mentioned CM6. It seems like everyone who dares make a positive statement about a ROM is automatically a fanboy troll.
It seems like anytime a person other than a developer starts a thread, someone has to say something insulting about the user or impinge their motive behind starting it. I fully expected someone to make a negative comment concerning me starting this thread -- I just didn't realize you'd be such a ***** that you'd have to hide behind tagging it.
The developers seem like decent people, but a lot of you hangers-on are just a bunch of immature, self-important, assholes who seem to feel a need to insult others and their choices in order to feel better about yourself and the choices you've made.
I'm sure this will be considered trolling, but since everything anyone does is labeled as such, it's sort of lost its meaning
We used to have a rule that the first person to bring up Hitler, Nazis, or the 3rd Reich in an argument automatically lost -- it's a mark of a weak intellect and a dearth of ideas. I think the same needs to be said about you idiots who trot out "troll" on every thread. I've been here a month and it's already gotten old.
New people are not going to stick around if you treat them like this.

if you check for updates again can you right down, and post here he name of the update they list?
i do not recall if it gives a file name or revision number.
otherwise you might have to do it on your phone and then use root explorer or something to find the file.
i do not know if it is downloaded as "update.zip" or not.
you can also offer to upload it to one of the many hosting sites that are used here and one of the dev's cna look at it to see if its different than the one from last week.

OK asswipe. Here is a picture of my wife's evo asking to do an update with your post in the background to show it's today. Notice the picture timestamp and phone time are the same (today at 9:15pm Pacific) and that my post was about eight minutes later. Ill answer that for you budd as i like to help, it doesnt annoy me that people ask the same questions so i got your back
This the deal. Some people are getting the updates on to their phones sum arent (me). This update is so that it can improve your phone in many ways so when it comes out for you download it. Its nothing bad youll enjoy it hope that answered your question.. if u want a break down of the rom and the use, let me kno.
People need to be more helpful and stop being douchebags fo real. We all were Noobs so stop acting like einstein and think your on top ove everybody because your really not. Thanks, I appreciate the help. I thought this was a place for learning, but I don't understand how anyone can learn something when they obviously feel they know everything already.
All I want to know is: how do I find out if this is the same version as the one that came out Thursday or Friday, which I believe was 3.26.651.3? I tried to find it on the SD card, but I can't.

With each failed attempt at guessing a release date, our chances of being correct on the next guess improve, right guys? Guys?

So EA17 means that it was completed on the 17th of January. So either they are clueless how to release this OTA without bricking devices or they are really testing the **** out of this one then. I hope its the latter case.

I feel like Charlie Brown going to kick the football. Surely Lucy won't pull it away again this time...

I think this one will actually be the one, theres already proof with that picture. Now Now, I know that it can be edited, but still, it seems like this date will be the one we were actually waiting for.

It makes perfect sense. They are going to test whatever they release for a while to make sure its polished. The rumor that AC received was probably that IF they dont find any major bugs in this version, it will be released on the 21st.

If they are so sure it's fine, they should release it now...
And if they DO find an issue, they'll disappoint everyone AGAIN.
This is nothing more than predicting the future, and they've been doing it poorly for 6mos now, why does Sprint think they'll get it right this time?
Releasing it at such-and-such date assuming all's well is what they have been doing since August.

Sprint isn't leaking the rumors. It's individuals that work for Sprint who want to give us an idea of when we might expect it (then they find some bugs)... or just douchebags that want to throw out rumors for laughs. Again, Sprint doesn't say when they are releasing updates because that makes them look worse if it's buggy or they don't follow through.

I am running 2.2, it has some issues, but works remarkably well. No FC's, and only slight screen rotation lag. So I can wait for Froyo... I am willing to wait because I want them to fix any and all bugs... Whether that be GPS, keyboard misses, screen rotation, whatever..
I am not a Sprint Lacky, have no stock in the company, but how people can get so emotionally attached to a software upgrade is beyond me. I can only imagine what people will be saying if they released a rushed buggy version.

Those of us that flashed the FroYo DK28 will still get this OTA if/when it comes out, right?
Still getting used to this phone. The Nexus One I used to have was a lot different.

I'd be happy with a new leak that's better than DK28 instead of "release dates" for froyo.

Not exactly. You will have to flash stock DI18 for the OTA to come through and install. But I recommend waiting for our dev teams to get hold of it first to tweak it.

It is funny to see how everyone it bi*ching about Verizon not releasing the Nexus and no-one has a problem with CM number one rule:
"don't ask for ETA"
If you ask me, don't expect anything soon or stable as priority has changed since the last year or so..
Number one priority now is;
-support as many devices as possible.
The old; fast release, fast bug fixes for top popular devices is long gone...
We are still on CM7 nightlies and an already working on CM9.

At least we know for sure that it WILL come to the Galaxy Nexus.

What makes you think he didn't read it? He didn't ask CM for ETA, he asked the entire community. Maybe he thought someone may knew, and the entire community does not have such rule.
Op, CM7 has been in the making for ~8 months and still no final release, CM9 could be about the same time, no one knows..

Cyanogen himself said "see you in January"
so most likely they're hoping for a january release for the CM9 first RC or nightlies.
The time until an actual final version of CM9, probably 3 months easily. Only exception may the GNex and Nexus S. but even then i'd be amazed if it was less than 2 months.

Supposedly 7.2 will be the last official CM7 release until the move full force into CM9.
We've had a stable 7.1 release for a few months now. The CM team has already started the process. I would imaging the Nexus would be the flagship device as it already runs ICS natively. So one would think they would start there and slowly incorporate other devices as they gain support.

Amazing, we have the best Sprint phone out there right now but no cutting edge development. Might push me towards the Galaxy Nexus which I really don't want to go to because it isn't really much of an upgrade over the E4GT.
Haven't seen anything posted recently about CM7. Seems like it is at a standstill. People say he is in IRC all the time but I haven't heard any more progression with the Rom so not sure what is going on in there.
I know the next thing to fix was GPS but doesn't seem like that happened. Also put out a date of the 15th for ICS, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for that one...Probably a bad move for him to put a date out there...

yeah, I am kinda surprised that the CM team hasn't given this phone the attention that a lot of others have gotten, especially, since this is the premier phone on sprint, and probably the best all around android phone out right now...

Not for nothing but I am quite sure if you really want to know the answer to your question you can go over to that forum and post a thread. I believe someone will answer you.
I am quite sure it will get done eventually since so many people want it and this phone is one of the best out now. I don't think worrying about is going to make it come faster though. Honestly outside of GPS and wifi tethering it runs pretty damn good.
Although some may not have faith in the kid, you must remember he has still done more than you or I have done to this point. Unless of course you have done more and if so let us know....lol

It's been a little over a week since the last alpha was released. This kid seems to work in spurts. He probably has school to deal with as well.
Aside from the GPS and 50%-working haptic and the governors besides ondemand being a little off kilter it's a solid kang and stable as hell. If you can go without GPS It's ready to go and fast as hell. Games work, sound, bluetooth, DSPmanager (yay), etc etc etc.
Now...take it over to the other forum. As odd as it sounds the rules are the rules, this conversation doesn't belong here.

Half the people over here shunning him will go over to the other forums and install his work if they haven't already did it. Discussion of development that isn't on XDA is prohibited. You can say bubby and rootzwiki all day long. Hell, you can even tell them to go to rootzwiki to find bubby's CM7 kang. But discussing Bubby's CM7 development at rootzwiki--discussing the rom along finer points--is where we went astray.
Considering all of the drama involved (on both sides) I don't think it's fair or realistic to make a judgement of who is wrong and who is right...but do I think that's unreasonable to discuss this in the general forum? No.

For the record, didn't mean to start the whole drama about he who shall be not whatever'd.
Just wanted to know if anyone knew of progress made by dev's on this forum or had heard anything from Cyanogen that is more... shall we say... official/reliable/etc.

I dont want to go back and forth, but General is general info about the device. I recall everyone discussing Deck's cm7 kang for the Evo 4G in the Evo forums, he had no thread here at the time. Then a thread was even made in the dev section called "another cm7 rom", the thread was made by a member not Deck, it wasnt deleted. So whats OK and what isnt comes down to who is OK and who isnt I guess, not whether it benefits the community....

Evervolv ICS rom for Skyrocket

Just checked out the Skyrocket forum and saw that Evervolv is working on an ICS rom for their device. Looks like its an alpha build but will get better everyday. Not sure what it would take to get over to our device but it must mean that ICS is on the horizon

Almost all of the devs are waiting for Samsung to release officially just like they have for the last 3 months.

So all the updates lately came from thin air?

I think he is referring to ICS development because ICS is in the topic title.
Simply before Xboarder (a skyrocket dev) all devs had been waiting for Samsung release. I think Xboarder is going to release source soon and I imagine this will mean others will fix up alot of things and we will begin to see a bunch of ICS roms. CM9 appears to be held up until a samsung release which they can use to get everything working 100%. The reality is without xboarder nobody would be working on ICS because Samsung has a bunch of ICS updates coming soon and this device is somewhere in line for that set of release. Nobody wanted to work on something that is going to be released officially in a few months and I respect that. However, I have the utmost respect for xboarder doing something that he might get beat to by Samsung just because he wants to do it and learn. Thats why he is the only dev ive donated to, aside from the fact that he had had progress on the Amaze ICS port which showed he had a track record at ICS ports.

Actually this is incorrect. I actually had my working version of ICS out about 5 minutes before xboarder made his source publicly available using the msm8660_surf device tree provided by qualcomm here.

I remember, but this was after he posted the video of the booted version of ICS and you guys flamed him for not releasing source. Then posted source and I think only topprospect bother to thank for releasing.

You people who bicker and fight over the internet should just change your names to Apple and Samsung...suing eachother because of stupid things like they both have the same default brightness setting on their devices...
Instead of getting all bent out of shape over other people, be proud of your own damn work and contribute to the community rather than degrade it with your unbelievable jealousy and immaturity.

fawk yeah. Such ******ry goes on in this forum i swear. Sometimes I wish I hadn't bought the GS2.
Instead of crap talking and starting drama, if you see something similar to what you're doing come out, make yours better and with more appeal.
Feels like the retarded politician flaming back and forth

They did the same crap to xboarder in the g2x fourm and chased him out and he wound up moving over to the sensation. Stupid because he was the first to root the g2x with the GB update. His stock roms were the most stable of all the stock roms for a 16 year old kid he is really smart and alot of people here could lear a thing or two from him.
I myself cant contribute in the development the way I would like right now because I simply dont have the time to leard so I donate when I can and that is how I make my contributions.
By the way the g2x actually has a ICS rom working really good it is eaglesblood based off cm9. I am using it and it kicks ass I hear that Eaglesblood is coming to the sgs2 I cant wait he is another really good dev. We just gotta be patient.

How many phones has this xboarder had lol. I remember him from the G2 forums as well... Hope these are donated phones and not all purchased by you.
