[MOD] EZ Clockwork 2.5.1.2 Install>Easily flash to 2.5.1.2 to flash old mods/themes
THIS IS FOR THE MT4G/Glacier UPDATED 04/22/2011
The primary use for this mod is to be able to easily switch between CWM Recovery 3.0.2.4, 3.0.0.6, 2.5.1.2 and the MT4G/Glaciers stock recovery.(Thanks to Amac1222 for the idea of adding the stock recovery to this)
In order to flash a rom or mod you must be rooted and running a recovery other than stock. With this zip, you can install CWM 2.5.1.2 so that some of the older scripted mods/themes will work. This zip also still includes CWM 3.0.0.6 and the stock recovery for anyone that wants to run those recoveries for some reason.
Using this Mod/Method you can switch between the latest version of CwM 3.0.2.4, 3.0.0.6, 2.5.1.2 or the stock recovery with the push of a couple buttons(you cant flash things from the stock recovery).
This zip does not modify Rom Manager in any way but only places the both CwM v3.0.0.6, v2.5.1.2 and the stock 2.2.1 recovery image in the correct spot on your sd card and renames it in order for it to be flashed using Rom Manager.
Instructions for use
Make sure you have the newest Rom Manager installed. This is included in most roms but can be found in the market also. The free version works fine..
Download the zip at the bottom of this post and place it on your sd card.
Open Rom Manager and choose "Reboot into Recovery"
From recovery flash/install the zip file you placed on your sdcard.(If you downloaded straight to your phone you will need to go into the download folder first and then) choose "Recovery_2.5.1.2_to_RomManager.zip" and install it. No need to wipe anything.
Now reboot your phone and then go back into Rom Manager and go to "All ClockworkMod Recoveries" This is where you flash the recoveries from.
To flash CwM 2.5.1.2 recovery just choose the option for 2.5.1.4
To flash CwM 3.0.0.6 recovery just choose the option for 3.0.0.5
To flash the stock recovery just choose the option for 2.5.1.3
Rom Manger will not show the correct matching "Current Recovery #" after using this. ie: It will say 2.5.1.4 in Rom Manager but if you boot into recovery it should be 2.5.1.2
You can now boot into recovery. (If you chose the 2.5.1.3 option hold volume up and power button at same from the red triangle screen to enter the stock recovery)
You should now see the new recovery.
CWM 2.5.1.2 Recovery has GREEN text
CWM 3.0.0.6 Recovery has ORANGE text
Stock Recovery has BLUE text
Keep in mind that you can switch recoveries easily in order to do things like flash that quick mod that has a old script. Just dont forget to flash back to the correct recovery when you try to flash a rom again.
Please hit the "THANKS" button if you are using this and want to show your gratitude.

Thanks for staying so on top of keeping this updated Drew! This is definitely the most user-friendly and accessible method for the newbies. You should email the developer of ROM manager to see if they can build in an option for Clockwork 3.
This is exactly what I was going to ask CM7 thread. Die looking for the stock recovery to re-calibrate my battery. BIG THANKS!!!

I dont think it will be added into Rom Manager anytime soon but I could be wrong. Our phone is one of only 4 or 5 phones that require a different recovery to run Gingerbread so most phones dont have this issue. Until most all of the roms require 3.0.0.5 type of recovery to flash, I just dont see it happening. I think Koush is far to busy with other things right now.
Awesome work, Drew, downloading now. I had just received my millionth MT4G replacement (yes, I am searching for the highly elusive perfect MT4G), and was attempting to get it set up for CM7 over the weekend, and although I had used your method before and was able to get it working, this time it wouldn't work, and I finally got it working through procedure 3 on the other thread, I believe, by Phateless. Hitting the thanks button now, and I appreciate your keeping on top of things. Cheers =)
I appreciate the thanks and I'm glad its working again. I just found out the other one had stopped working last night and I couldnt edit the post with the fix since the thread it was in had been closed. At least now if we run into any more issues everyone has a place to post and let me know.
Good luck finding the MT4G for you. I got lucky, mine is as close to flawless as I think I can get. Good screen, can OC to max with no probs. My back button does creek sometimes ever so slightly but I do push it like 20 times more than any other button so I can live with that.
Thanks again for using this mod!!

You only would need to change the recovery if you want to flash a rom that isnt compatable with the recovery that you are currantly running,
For example if you are running a rom like Ice Glacier and Clockwork recovery 2.5.1.2 and you want to install CM7. You cant do it without flashing ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 first. Same thing if you are running CM7 and Clockwork recovery 3.0.0.5 and want to install a Froyo Rom you must flash back to 2.5.1.2 before installing the rom.
You can do both of those things from Rom Manager by following the instructions in the first post.
Once you have installed the zip you should not have to install it again. It places the recovery images on your SD card so they shouldnt get erased when you flash a different rom.
just kidding on the download link being broken, awesome job it works great!

Link wasnt broken but Mediafire doesnt play nice if your downloading str8 to your Phone. I replaced the link with a different one so try it now.
Thank you so so so muccch!!!! It worked like a charm. But wow to think I was putting up with ice glacier cuz the process of going to cwm3 just seemed so inconvenient, boy did you make things easy.
And wow cm7 is the ishhh. I can't believe how smooth and fast everything is. And its like customization galore. Again thank you so much.

Great idea putting the stock recovery also - thanks. That makes it much easier to deal with if there is a need to convert back to stock to return a phone under warranty.
I could not see how I had gotten the ROM Manager update however, as I had never seen it coming through a market update. Then I recalled it comes with the newer Builds, so apparently the new Manager one is in them now.
Update - Installed this on another MT4G I got for a Family Plan member ($49.95 with two year extension). I had it flash CMW 2.xxx, went into recovery (green), and then booted back up. Open modified ROM manager, flashed back to "2,5.1.1" and booted back into recovery.
Got the (usually) dreaded red triangle, and then vol up/power button - and there was the old stock recovery in all its blue glory!
Going to leave it that way for now unless I need to flash some more zip files before I ship it off (recipient is 2600 miles away). I don't want to have to deal with the boot-up to recovery when connecting to the charger when device is off issue.
Again - great work

TrueBlue - I think this note might be useful to add to your guide. As a noob to all of this i didn't know you need to press VOLUME UP and then POWER in order to get into stock recovery the first time i did it. It scared the crap out of me and i thought i bricked my phone!
So it might be helpful for people who are doing it for the first time to know that the phone and hazard sign are expected.

No, you do not need to reflash this everytime you flash a rom. You should only need to flash it once.

As long as you stay on a Gingerbread ROM you don't need to reflash recovery. If you go back to a Froyo ROM then you need to reflash Clockwork Recovery 2.5.1.2, which can be done through ROM Manager.

He asked if he needed to flash the recovery ZIP when he flashes a new rom.The answer to his question is NO. He did not ask if he needs to flash a new recovery. If he wants to flash a different rom then, yes he needs to make sure he is using the correct recovery for the Rom he is flashing.
I downloaded the .zip file for the upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4 off CM's website, put it on my SDCARD, booted into recovery - looks like stock recovery, (following the steps on CM website) then applied the zip -> it looks like its doing something for about 20 seconds then the little android guy dies and has a red triangle with an exclamation point coming out his stomach. What am I doing wrong?
baseband version: FE10
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FD10-CL377892
You need to be using a clockwork mod recovery to flash, stock recovery will not work.
First make sure you are rooted.
Next use either Odin 1.85 or Mobile Odin to flash the EL26 kernel.
Upon reboot, go into recovery mode using volume up+power. If you miss your chance to do so, just pull the battery and try to get into recovery again.
Using CWM, flash per the install instructions.
so do i just odin the kernel back to el26 w/ CWM? the reason i dont want to do a clean install is because i wodnt want to wipe my data. If i odin to EL26 w/ CWM do i need to go back to gingerbread?? Or is there a way i can sat on ICS and upgrade?
what if i used this kernel? [NEW][KERNEL] FE16 Repack with ACS recovery

Do exactly what he said here... You're not going back to GB or wiping data. You're just re-flashing a CWM recovery. When you originally installed CM9 alpha 3, you used a CWM recovery. But the CM9 ROM re-flashes a stock recovery (which you can not use to upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4).
So all you do is Odin the EL26 kernel/CWM recovery image (phone in Download mode), and then you reboot and hold vol+ and power to get the phone into the CWM Recovery Mode. From there, you just install the CM9 alpha4, you don't wipe data or lose anything.
thanks man, it worked.
I am new to the forums and didn't want to make a new thread. I am having issues with the GPS (Maps App.) The app loads up i enter the destination i want to go to but it wont find my location where i am at. It just keeps searching for my location...
So i went ahead and downloaded another GPS app ( tele nav.) same issue. I was wondering is there a way to fix GPS issues on this rom? I would like to fix that issue..
anyone have a solution to fixing the GPS issue on this rom???
Please bring me back. I installed CM9 pre5 but forgot to update kernel to get CMW with 3 fingers and now I installed battery mod beta4 and phone justs loops.
I made a backup when I updated before installing battery mod but I don't know how to get phone back into clockwork mod since i didn't install kernel for it after CM9 update.
I need instructions to get phone back up please save me.
Thanks for your fast input...
The Cm9 update includes the kernel. Just three finger boot into recovery.

Great but what if?
wow that was fast and accurate, many Thank You Zeinzu. I did not know it had CWM on CM9 thinking you had to flash kernels like nyan 5 or shadow cm9 6.3.3 to get it to work.
If by any chance that 3 finger didn't work I would need to use odin to:
via ODIN
1.To begin, download the CWM 5.0.2.7 tar file from the link above.
2.Run ODIN and make sure Re-Partition is unchecked.
3.Click PDA and choose the recovery you downloaded.
4.Boot your phone into Download Mode. (Power it off and holding down the 1 key on the keyboard, press the Power button.)
5.Connect the device to your PC and once you see it connected in ODIN, hit the Start button to begin the flashing process.
6.Once the recovery is flashed, the phone will reboot
does F.Reset Time checkboxes need to be selected?
or
odin back to OFFICIAL SPH-D700-FC09-8Gb-REL.tar then I need to root it again? lost here never had to go back so just wanted to know from the Pro's...
Thanks m8 =)

Nooooo!!! Once on mtd (cm9 is mtd) do not flash another recovery.... there Is no flashable or .tar for cwm for mtd roms.. cm9 installed the recovery you should stick with (there is a touch recovery, but its buggy imo)
If you cantget to the recovery you will need the fc09 with victory.pit wth repartition an auto reboot checked...
Cool

Thank You Flashnoles you also saved me from bricking my phone.
I got confused into thinking I needed to install extra kernals on CM9 to get CMW but I followed Zeinzu advice and was saved. I was just about to odin a CMW.tar when I had my doubts and decided to ask the kind m8's of XDA.
Does CM9 stock kernal have the 3 Button Reboot or you only get that with Nyan Colonel v5 or ShadowKernel CM9 v0.6.3.3 because I try to do a fast reboot but keep getting volume going up or down?
I noticed when I installed the Nyan Colonel v5 it installed TeamWin Recovery Project (twrp) instead of CMW but I reverted back using restore-cwm.zip. Is this the "touch recovery" you were reffering to because I also found it buggy and was not confident using it for Recovery and tools?
So If a new CMW version pops up the only way to get it is to odin back to stock BML to install it then use Restore in CMW to get back to your saved Rom?
Could I use epic4g-fc09-sdcard-utility-v3.tar to temp bypass MTD and install CMW updates?
Thank You again both for your advice and great responses...

MTD uses a completely different recovery. The recovery is overwritten whenever you flash a rom or kernel. When thee is a new recovery, you will automatically get it when you update cm9.

I've been having some trouble trying to boot the latest AOKP for some reason, clean install didn't work so I restored a backup from recovery. After that, TWRP asked me for a password soon as I got into recovery. This is the first time I've seen this..and I figure that reflashing the recovery should be all I need to do, then I should be able to reflash AOKP and enjoy, right? Problem is, I can't find a .tar file as goo.im doesn't appear to want to give me the file. :crying:
So before I spend the rest of my day off on a wild chase for a simple file, can anyone tell me if I'm going about this the right way? My searching the issue hasn't yielded much in the way of results. Just want to get my phone back up and running!
EDIT:
I wasn't being clear enough. Despite restoring my backup, it force closed one thing or another every few seconds so I went to recovery to reflash. That's when things failed because of this password. I'm limited to download and recovery modes now, which isn't bad except for I still can't find a .tar to flash via Odin.
Reflashing TWRP hasn't resolved the password issue. Looks like I need to find a new angle..
what version are you on? did you just flash that same version?
Was at 2.5.0.0, and yes I reflashed the same one. I can't remember which version I was on before this one. Any recommendations?
perhaps revert to the previous release. if you're d2att, here's the link to the 2.4.4.0 tar
This version throws the same password prompt. I never set a password for this..didn't even know it was an option

Just went through trying different versions all the way back to 2.3.3.1 which I know I used for quite a while without any trouble. I want to try CWM but I can't find it in .tar form, just .img
WOW!! I found CWM version 5.8.4.7 on my computer's HDD, and so I flashed it. CWM wouldn't mount my external sd card where my ROM zips are. Got tired of messing with that and so I flashed back TWRP and it came back with the same password prompt. Great... Guess I'm flashing back to stock and starting over.

follow this link to the root from recovery thread. download the root kit and flash the recovery.tar.md5 file. its an older cwm so after flashing, you have the option to download and flash a recovery flashable twrp zip (to see if that fixed the password issue) or remain on cwm and download/flash a new release

Grrr...It's still doing the same thing that started this adventure. Gets stuck at the underwear kernel loading screen and won't boot up.
CWM and TWRP nandroids are different. If you make a backup with TWRP you cant restore with CWM, and vice versa.
if you're still getting stuck on the loading screen, wipe data/factory reset in recovery and wipe cache. reboot and see if that fixes your issue

I've tried this many times, nothing's working. I got fed up and used ODIN to go back to stock, and now even THAT won't boot. Went to download, again flashed CWM and tried wiping cache, did a factory reset and fixed permissions. It STILL won't boot. I can't figure out what I did wrong to save my life. This all started with the same wipe procedures I always take when updating AOKP. I'm completely lost right now..
Maybe I spoke too soon. It went from the Samsung GSIII logo to the AT&T logo with startup sound after a long time..now it's sitting here at Samsung for..a long time. Maybe I haven't been giving it enough time.
When you use ODIN to flash back to stock, you usually have to boot into stock (not custom) recovery to wipe data and wipe cache. Otherwise the phone sits at the Samsung logo.

So, boot into download mode and that will wipe cache? I'm not sure I understand. And you were right, it hasn't progressed past the samsun logo.
No, boot into the stock recovery mode that comes on the device. Don't flash the stock firmware and then flash cwm in order to wipe data and wipe cache. Just flash stock in ODIN with the auto reboot box unticked, when you get the PASS, unplug, pull battery, replace and immediately press the recovery mode button combo. This will place you in stock (Samsung) recovery. That's when you wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache. Reboot. It will take a few minutes to boot initially

When I went to recovery it showed the android guy with the little gearboxes. I guess that's what I was looking for? It rebooted by itself and now I'm just waiting for it.
Yup, that's what stock recovery looks like. Were you able to wipe data and cache before the reboot?

Since you can't revert back to the stock OS, flash the firmware and don't worry about wiping just yet. The Darkside SuperWipe method is used prior to installing a custom ROM. Download the appropriate firmware (4.1.2.) and get your T989D up and running first. Root the device and install a custom recovery. You may want to choose a CWM (ClockWorkMod) recovery as the Darkside SuperWipe works best with CWM. Download the QuickBoot app from the Playstore, this allows you to boot into recovery mode without having to press the volume up/down/power combination of buttons used to access recovery mode.
Do not skip any steps, instructions borrowed from TheDerekJay's Darkside SuperWipe page.
IMMEDIATELY BEFORE FLASHING ROM OF YOU CHOICE, DO THE FOLLOWING...
1. Place on ROOT of your SD card.
2. Boot into Recovery Mode
3. Do a NAND BACKUP!!!
4. Flash DARKSIDE SUPERWIPE
5. Stay inside recovery
6. Flash desired ROM.
7. After flashing is complete, Reboot...
8. Done!
At most, ten minutes tops. I've run into instances of fifteen minutes. If you're not seeing results by the twenty minute mark, you'll have to start over. Do not use nightly's or release candidates, especially if you want to use the custom ROM for stable everyday operation. If I've missed any steps, I'm sure others will add to this.

I think it might be best to get your S2x back to stock. If this is the only device you have, then it's probably not a good idea to start experimenting. If something should go wrong, you'll be without a phone. I started by practicing on a Galaxy Ace to get the hang of rooting and installing custom ROM's and gradually progressed to the S2x, HTC Raider etc. I'm not trying to discourage you, but I think you need to do a little more reading/research and gather the tools that you'll need to familiarize yourself with how this all works.
yeah, i think to :good:
with all the test i do i think i'm lucky to not brick my phone
i reflash with odin and it now work fine
i try the other solution but not work
when i want to install cyanogen. i'm gonna see on XDA forum for help first
If you're looking to squeeze a little more performance out of your device, rooting alone is a good option. At the moment, I've reverted back to stock firmware (4.2.1.) and only rooted the device. I've removed and/or quarantined most of the carrier and manufacturer bloatware (software not necessarily needed, but installed by carrier/manufacturer) and the S2x flies, zero lag and swiping through pages is incredibly fast.
I'm not sure which solution you're referring to, glad to hear your S2x is back up and running though. :good: I should add that the S2x is an aging device which is why we haven't seen a ton of answers to your post, lol. Maybe when you decide to upgrade to an S4 or something, you can use the S2x as a test device to practice with.

U need to go get the updated recovery, use twrp v2.6.1.0 from here techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules, flash the tar. file with odin then download the ROM of choice, put on SD card and boot to recovery, DO NOT use any superwipe/supercache wipe script with twrp, it can break things, do a full wipe in twrp (advanced wipe menu) data, system, dalvik cache, and cache, 3x each, the flash ROM, flash gapps, reboot and let the phone sit ten min, then reboot again and set up, should be fine, u need to be on a newer recovery to flash these new roms..

No just go to the link I provided, download the tar file, put the device in download mode, and use Odin to flash the recovery tar file just like u would if u were going back stock, but only flash the recovery, or if u u really want to, go to the dev section and find the twrp thread and find the flashable zip file, that u can flash with cwm, but either way u don't need to return to stock, I suggest using the Odin method I proscribed ..

I just updated from v2.4.4.0 to v2.6.1.0 - no problem. Maybe go over Soupysoup's instructions again.

yea i just went to http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules and downloaded the http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules.tar file. the one thats downloaded 678 times. went to odin and flashed the tar file a second time. the same result is happening that it just freezes at the teamwin screen. the odin passed and i let the phone reboot with the cable in and it just boot looped since my phone is having boot loops problems. i take the battery out and try to go into recovery mode but it just freezes up at that blue team win screen. is there a button im supposed to press while on that screen to move or something
hmm..i had to odin flash the twrp 6.0.3 for it not to freeze up on the team win screen.

So now everything boots up ok?
no twrp v2.6.3.1
---------- Post added at 01:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 AM ----------
but yea i dont understand why the 2.6.1.0 freezes at the team win screen but the 2.6.3 dont freeze up. i heard the 2.6.3 is very buggy atm. so im not sure should i risk flashing with this version or give the twrp 2.6.1 one more try.
That is weird, I had no problem with 2.6.1 maybe give it another shot at least you'll know for sure. As for the button combination, I just use the volume up/down keys and power to get into recovery, trick I found was to let go of power right after that slight vibration and keep holding both volume keys until the TeamWin logo appears.
yea it froze up again with the team win v2.6.1.0. i guess my only option atm is to flash with the 2.6.3 since im boot looped. im gonna try and flash that ROM Hellybean
So you have an S2?
yes tmobile galaxy s2 t989, something is wrong with teh phone. im on twrp 2.6.3, when i tried to advance wipe data, system, and all that it just freezes for like 30 mins. had to pull battery.
