They took a page from Motorola too,....bought a RAZR and a month later the white razr came out. Gave it to my wife, bought the Nexus, a month later a white one is coming out.

Aww man, this blows! lol I just ordered the 16GB version yesterday from Daily Steals for $560. I'll have to think this over, and consider canceling and maybe wait for the 32GB.

found another article.. think this picture of the white one, actually makes it look somewhat nice looing

i dont know about the white model, but i already requested a RMA # and return shipping from amazon for my current gnex. 16gig is just not enough... im in subways a lot so google music doesnt really help, its great until i go underground

You can make it go offline mode by downloading your music via Google Music.
Can't really blame Google though. Blame the MTA for the lack of internet service underground whereas other countries already have this technology to provide 3G/4G service underground.

Why is this a surprise?...this happens with almost all android phones. White versions getting released after some time and we all knew 32gb is coming down the line since there was a 32 gb verizon version.

you make a great point...
does verizon have exclusive rights indefinitely or just for a a few months.. any ideas?
because if this phone ever comes out on t-mobile, i will give the 16gb to my brother and use the upgrade i have to get the 32gb

until it's confirmed by samsung/google these are just rumors from shops. feel free to return your device, but you may just be buying the same thing again in a month if this all winds up to be fake.
even those white pictures are from a user at droid-life.
*edit* i stand corrected. just saw in another post an actual statement from expansys that they are getting the 32Gb black version most likely in about 4+ weeks. However, they also said that it would be 599 UK. (i don't know how to make the pound symbol) meaning that the price for import will probably be around $800 again verses the $650 you can get the 16Gb for now.
anyway, it's your money. Personally, there are ways to increase the 16Gb. I have an OTG cable and plug in a 32GB microSD card that has all my videos in it.

The white won't flow with the screen/OS as nicely as black, but damn, it looks nice.
As for the 32gb version, eh couldn't care less. Wifi or service everywhere I go, and if usage becomes a problem I just tether to my Sprint line.

White..... not so much.
32gb? /: damn! Can't believe it!

Well the GSM versions, you can always buy a white plastic shell. I don't know if they'll make the white version of the Verizon model. I'm not too concerned about color. I never owned a white device, but my GF has a white TPU case for a year and its brownish yellow.
When I bought an iPad 2 some years ago, I was in line talking to the Apple guys about black or white. They said the white's end up nasty and yellowish.
I think I'd rather stick to black.
As far as 16 vs 32... thats a valid concern. Obviously more expensive. I can't see how 16gb is "not enough" but whatever.
I don't think you need EVERYTHING in your collection with you at once. The average song length is 4minutes. There are 24 hours in a day. If you listened to music 24 hours, you could only listen to 360 songs. Add some variety and spice and quadruple that. That's 1440 songs, or enough to listen for 4 days without hearing a repeat. 1440 @ 5mb = 7.2gb. With Cloud storage, you should be ok.
Same with Movies. You only need a few movies on you at once. 480p is great for mobile applications. The screen is so small that the difference is miniscule.
Throw some backups, flashable roms, apps, games < 16gb.
You can also use a USB host cable to connect a thumb drive. But if you ABSOLUTELY must have the 32gb version for whatever reason, I would be thinking about it. We all knew from day 1 that there was going to be a 16 and 32gb version. The white is a surprise though.
There are tons of people looking for Galaxy Nexus's in the Marketplace. Sell it and wait it out.

pretty much my feeling. I'm using the internal for pictures, some small movies/shows, and music.
then i have a OTG cable and a 16GB microsd that i'm using when i want to watch a full movie. i also have a 1TB hard drive that works with my tablet for anything else. and i'd say 99% of the time, if i'm going to be on a long trip and need that much entertainment, i'll have the tablet/harddrive with me.
plus, as you said. cloud storage as well.

Google or Verizon have not explicitly stated about the exclusivity but it's pretty obvious and lots of tech sites believe the same. I do think eventually you will see Nexus on other US carriers like the nexus s, but nothing confirmed.
My suggestion is use your upgrade to buy a subsidized phone, sell it on ebay or here in marketplace and then use that money to buy the 32gb. You still have to put some money on top but still better than full $800 or what ever.

Anyone serious about the lifespan of their phones are gonna be rockin' some sort of skin or case anyway. In that case what does it matter what color it is. The memory issue, hey that's a matter of preference.
My phones silver
It's 16gb
And Im tickled pink with it

I guess the 32GB GSM version gives me another excuse to hold out a bit longer from getting the Galaxy Nexus.

I see the white version like this. Would you buy a nice gunmetal grey car or a white one?
I also think that the onscreen buttons will look out of place. On the black one it all looks uniform like the whole front is the screen.
And white will go yellow and if it gets a scratch any dirt will sit in the scratch and be visible.

The release dates we've been hearing for the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus have been all over the map. The latest rumors had it pegged for December 8th, and that still may be true for official Big Red shops, but now a source inside Best Buy is telling us the big box electronics retailer won't have them in stock until the 11th. The image above, supposedly taken from a Best Buy inventory system, lists the SCH-i515 as hitting the stock room on December 11th of 2011. What it doesn't list, however, is a street date. The phones could go on sale that day, or the next or a week later -- it's really all just guesswork without an official announcement. While the photos certainly seem legit, there are a few discrepancies that give us pause. Particularly, the lighter weight and thinner profile than what is listed on the Google specs page -- 9.34mm versus 9.47mm and 140g instead of 150. But, we're not writing this off as a fake just yet.

You think this is legit? All I know is that I'm tired of waiting. Seeing rumored dates come and go is discouraging. I was definitely hoping for early to mid November release.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of it all. I can only hope that VZW is urging Samsung to make some changes for the better. For instance, just like the US version will have LTE, a bigger battery, and a different color, maybe we're getting a revamped version altogether. Super AMOLED+ HD screen with full RGB? SD Card? TI OMAP 4470 w/PowerVR SGX 544? This is all very wishful thinking . Ha ha!
VZW is so hush hush about everything. I'd just like to have something concrete to go on.

Its most likely software improvements. A story on engadget showed a Verizon nexus with 4.1 on it!

Well it is a sign that December is going to be the month for the release..Unfortunately for everyone eager to get their hands on the Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Samsung Galaxy Nexus, we’ve heard of no official release date. And until we do, rumors will have to suffice.

Regardless of the date I'm willing to wait. I'm not copping out and switching phones due to impatience. I want it bad enough.
The Verizon employee today at the store (when asked about the GN) simply replied "I dunno"
A clueless Verizon employee? No, I'm shocked! Looks like the new target date is the 15th btw. So ridiculous though, the phones are literally just sitting in boxes at Verizon stores ready to go...

I got to play around with one today in a store, and they are awesome! It wasn't activated, per se, only on wifi. It's HUGE! Very, very fast, camera is nice, and it will soon be in my posession!
I played witj the rezound last night and was not that impressed. Music was nice, but the sense 3. 5 was laggy like on my dinc. I can upgrade the 29th and actually thinking of a slightly older cheaper phone that has good development established. No way will i drop $300 on a phone, its ridiculous.

That's unacceptable for a phone with that good of hardware. I think the nexus will have great development for it but its 300 too. Inc2 or tbolt for you maybe?

There are so many bloatware apps loaded on the Rezound, it's not even funny. My RAM would actually get down to as low as sub 100MB at times. That would cause the phone to become sluggish. After killing everything off, it was as fast as all get up. Once the bloat slowly started to repopulate, the cycle repeated. I can only imagine how terrible the display model would perform after being hammered throughout the day.
The major problem for me was that the preloaded apps on the Rezound were very intrusive, and wouldn't play nice. Either I could deal with a less than stellar amount of RAM (out of 1GB), or try to free some up and enjoy the phone. I ended up spending so much time killing unwanted background apps, only to have them start back up. Of course, that turned into a battery drainer. I truly understand now why 3rd party task managers are pretty much useless nowadays.
I just couldn't deal with it anymore. The temp root wasn't ideal, mostly hit or miss (no fault of the dev). If it worked, in the middle of getting the system set up just the way I like it, temp root would just stop working. Reboot, try again. Not pleasant. So, I said forget it and returned it. However, once the Rezound gets s-off & permanent root, I'm sure it'll live up to its name. Until then...
Thanks Verizon! You took an otherwise awesome device and ruined the experience. You should be ashamed, but you're not. Instead, you're trying your very best to ruin a pure Google phone experience as well. You've already forced BackUpManager & My Verizon apps onto the GNex, one of which consumers are very capable of downloading if they want it. To top it all off, you've delayed the release date into dangerous territory. After a certain point, lots of people are going to just let it go.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus (ENGINEERING) Model?

Hey Everyone... Originally when I got my GNEX, I could have sworn that when I tried to unlock/root it, it had been easier than a lot of the instructions, but I didn't think too much about it at the time. (I got it directly from a VZW wireless store) I think at this point, it was already unlocked. Now that I've changed phones, I wanted to prep this one for selling, and I was trying to follow instructions on how to reset/relock the phone, but it doesn't seem to let me lock it with the fastboot oem lock commands... but if this is an engineering build, should I even bother? Or can I sell it as is and just state factory unlocked?
Here is an image of my "About Phone" after flashing back the google images that I downloaded from here: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/mysid-icl53f-factory-65895fa8.tgz

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but I tried -looking- for a factory unlocked CDMA version to judge it against, and can't even seem to find any, am I just missing something? Are people selling them somewhere else?
You won't find a "Factory Unlocked" model, AFAIK they don't make them. What you have is somewhat unique, although not that useful since it's a Nexus device. If you want more info on what exactly you have this thread has a decent overview if you read the first 2 pages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461386 Bottom line, your fine to sell it as is.
To the right person you will get more just because it is an engineering model! If I were you I would bank on that!!

I thought about that too when I first read the post. But, since this is a Nexus device to begin with, does that really get you anything?
I doubt it gets you anything but I want one lol. I'd pay maybe $20 more than a normal one but beyond that I'd get a stock. Someone may want it just to have it like me though.

Will do. Kinda bummed about the selling prices in general, haven't been able to decide what to list it for. Gonna throw it up with no reserve and see what happens.

If its rare people will pay, just due to the fact that no one else can get it.
I personally am the type of person you want to sell this to. I buy tons of stuff for hundreds more just because I collect tech.
***Speaking of which, if anyone knows someone that owns an original 20gb PS3 I am looking to spend $400 or more depending on condition. Been looking for 3 years. Also looking for a copy of Super Metroid for SNES, I`ll pay $60 with out box, $100 in box***
Anyways yeah, if I didn`t already own a Galaxy Nexus and was not in the process of looking for a Galaxy S2 White (perferably from France to use here in Canada) I`d pay around $800 easy.

I hadn't thought of it from a collectors point of view, I was thinking purely in terms of a developer. fiyawerx, maybe you should at least look for an alternative market? Maybe Adreno knows some other collectors?

No I don't sorry.
Only reason I threw out the $800 number is because, really its not that much more you'd pay buying a "normal" phone really.
I still remember paying something like $700 after tax for the Xperia x10 (ouch bad device) and another $700 for the Xperia Arc (Better device but still too much IMO)
$800 is not that big of a jump, and you are getting something truly unique.
***On a side note: I bought the Xperia x10 and my wife's first iphone, the white 3GS the same day...I think the total was like $1400. Imagine my surprise learning my brand new "latest tech" android didn't support multitouch....mmm still feel that burn! Oh well I guess 2 finger touch ended up being supported later, but by then I was on the Samsung Captivate. Loved the Captivate!***

Used daily for about 3 weeks daily, with a screen protector installed @ verizon when I bought it. Somehow it still managed to get a tiny line in it near the front camera in the upper right... you have to have the light hit it just right to see it, I tried getting it in the pictures here but could not. I took the screen protector off now to show how clean the real screen is, there's some dust on it though.
The pictures came out a bit too big that I'd want to post here, you can see them here:

Buying gnex with broken screen.

Hey guys, I have been jumping around android phones for the last 2 years as I buy and sell them. Anyways I found a gnex on my local Craigslist for sale with a tiny crack in the screen by the power button.. The guy only wants a 100 bucks for it. The rest of the phone is clean and the esn is clear. And the phone is 100% usable as is. My only problem is i cant find a replacement screen assembly for under 200. I am used to paying upwards of 100 for other screen assemblies I have replaced. But over 200 makes it better to just buy a used phone.
So the only reason I want this phone is because I can use it as is for a while until I can get the cash for a replacement screen. But still 200 bucks is hard to swallow.
What say you guys?

Unless it's free, I'd never buy something damaged off the bat. Just save for money for a new one. I did that ones and it ended up costing more then a new one .. and it was never perfect like a new one.
That's the price. Digitizer and screen are one piece so that's why the price is high.
doesn't sound like a bad deal to me, make sure the phone works well then when you do get around to changing the screen out save the one with the hairline as a backup in case you ever shatter the new one. At least you could use the nexus while waiting for the money for the screen.
Pony up $100 more and you can have a new one from google with warranty. $399 from the play store for GSM galaxy nexus.

I just sold my cracked GN for more than $100 and I still think that is a good deal. You cant feel or really see the cracks when the screen is turned on. The phone works and feels perfect, just doesn't look good. I think it's a great opportunity for a young dev or someone with out a lot funds to pick up a fully functional newest Nexus for a fraction of the new cost. Don't even bother fixing the screen. Save that money for the next nexus and enjoy the cracked one for now.
I got mine off cl... $380 with only a few cosmetic noticeable scratches. Mostly near usb port. I wanted unlimited 4g!

Your the 2nd person to say that so I man see if they will fix it for me.
And I think I am going to go get the phone on Monday as soon as I get back from a weekend trip.
I am stoked to be a gnex owner. My thunderbolt was good to me but she has seen better days. Thanks for your help guys.

Update-
I drove over and go the phone today. It's like brand new. A tiny crack that is only visible when the screen is off and a tiny 2mm crack on the bezel. Other then that the phone is like brand new. The guy said that he wanted a iPhone and so he never bothered fixing the gnex.
He wanted 100 but I ended up talking him to 70 because I had to drive 30 miles. He even threw in 2 charges and a case and a screen protector.
I have to go to verizon tomorrow to get a new sim card because my thunderbolt uses the bigger card. So tomorrow I will be up and running.
I am so stoked on my find. And should i ever want to get it fixed. Samsung told me it's 160 to get the screen fixed. So I could have a brand new nexus for for 230 total.. Or a nexus with a tiny crack that is pretty much unnoticeable for 70. I am just stoked all around.

I just bought a Gnexus from ebay for £116 with a crack in, I think its a great deal. I had a budget of about £200 ( im a student, crappy androids price), moved from webos to the best android and i've saved money, im absolutely in love with the purchase and maybe when the screen annoys me I'll see if prices have lowered and buy a new one (might even mod it touchstone compatible. If anybody is thinkig is is it worth buying a cracked one, I say yes, top of the range phone for very cheap!
I found an offer in Croatia, also cracked GNex (picture in attachments).
So, the owner says that the phone is still fully functional, just the glass is cracked. My question would be, if it's really only the glass how much would it cost me to buy a replacement glass from ebay and is it posible to change it by myself (newbie!)?
Idk the cost of them but they do look fairly difficult mainly getting the digitizer out that's cracked and replacing it. I've done a wide selection of repairs and digitizers just tend to be the hardest thing on most devices. But hey with patience and steady hands its possible

Why Nexus Devices have no SD Cards

Wanna know what it really is? Sure you do.
The lack of an SD card in Nexus devices is nothing new, and we've been over this issue already when the Galaxy Nexus first appeared.
We got tired of seeing OEMs include many GB of internal storage for music, while users were still running out of space for apps and data. This approach lets us merge everything on one volume, which is way better.

Looks like they took a page right out of Apple's book on that one, "we know what's best for you so we won't give you a choice". Sorry Google but I'm not getting a tablet that will only let me store 3 HD movies.. and that's on the larger model!
16GB in 2012 is downright ridiculous, I had 8+32GB on my SGS that was filled to capacity, now I can't even store half of that on my GNex.. I find myself having to swap music/movies in and out on a weekly basis which is becoming pretty annoying.
There is a Nexus 7 forum where you can address your complaints and express your dissatisfaction.
As for the 2 min of my life lost on reading this post, they haven't made a forum for that yet.

Either you have spent less than 15 seconds reading the article or you have some sort of attention deficit disorder. The article addresses the lack of SD cards for all Nexus devices, not just the Nexus 7.

but then they will get money from everywhere even if you dont buy it. go buy something that fill your needs. no need for apologize. google wont even care about the price of one tablet you would've bought. even if you intend to buy 10 and you wont, Google still wont care.
and btw, Google are pushing towards Cloud Storage since few years back, just now that you see their effort(hence you see Drive, picasa, play music, stream movies, etc on the cloud). additional to that, they made it so everyone can own a tablet, hence less hardware additions.
EDIT : i am also one of the disagreed person as my country dont have WiFi everywhere and internet/data are still slow(for us its fast but compared to US, UK, etc, its slow. ) I couldnt use cloud services at its best. I wish to have more storage but i just love Nexus so much and i just accept it and make do with whats available.
nice, so they have decided for me.... cool....
I have a 16gb microSD just sitting there 'cause I can't do anything with it in my Nexus... would be really awesome to have it in my phone and have 2 separate partitions... in my microSD I could put whatever the hell I wanted, music, movies... and in the internal storage, I could use for apps and game data...
I like the one volume storage approach, but I think that the standard should be 32/64/128 flavors. Not 8/16/32/64.

Come on, this is old news.
Why don't ferraris have cup holders?
DO YOU JELLY?
I don't use cloud storage as I want my stuff available at all times, not only in good reception/wifi areas. I would love to be able to use my 32gb SD card on my gnex (I had 20gb worth of music/movies/game data/cwr backups on it). I mean nova 3 takes up close to 2gb itself, movies take an average of half a gb, nandroids half a gb, 5gb of music etc... But for $350 this phones still a hell of a deal, so I'll suffice.
I wouldn't pay no 500 bucks for a device with physical limitations of 16gb, (think iPad) but the nexus 7 sounds like an excellent value. I just don't like tablets, I have a gnex and a laptop (500gb $500 haha).

Choose another line of devices that fill your needs.
Since I don't feel the unnecessary IMO urge to smush HD movies on my phone, I'm just fine.

Generally it has a double effect
+for me it is more of the convenience not to have an SD card being inserted in and out all the time and most likely is predisposed to corrupting (Yes, I had the SGS I9000 from a few months ago and this was a pain in the arse,ok?!)
-I have my music collection in FLAC file format, so 5 albums is almost 3GB, and HD movies could be soo limited, why not flash a kernel that can enable USB OTG feature? I am thinking about it now

That's the great thing about Android: choice. If you don't like the Nexus 7, you can buy another tablet that does have an SD card slot.
Stop whining about the lack of storage on the device. If you have a desktop/server at home that already stores a good portion of your movies/music, then learn how to set up a SAMBA/CIFS server. If you need something that doesn't require an internet connection, then get a Seagate Satellite or Kingston Wi-Drive.
Upgrading to massive amounts of local storage is an absolute waste of money on NAND devices. This is the primary reason why even Apple shies away from offering more than 64GB on the iPhone and iPad. You're looking at more than $4 per GB, which is almost five times as expensive as most consumer SSDs for desktops and laptops. For the same price of upgrading from a 16GB iPad to a 64GB, you can add 500GB of external storage instead with a Seagate Satellite.
Do you want to pay $500 for a 64GB Nexus 7?
Didn't think so.
16GB, don't bother me one bit. Cloud storage is where i went, and i'll never look back. Works just fine. All my movies are on drive. Music uploaded. pictures uploaded. No need for the extra. My phone stays with 10GB+ free all the time. When it gets below i simply delete a nandroid.
That being said I understand cloud storage doesn't work for everyone though
You bought the device knowing the limitation. You have every right not to.
If you knew you were going to need more than 32gb of storage and you bought something without and sd slot there is no one at fault but you. Quit crying about it, this has been going on forever now.
No one is forcing you to get a Nexus 7 tavlet. If it does not fulfill your needs in a tablet then buy something else instead of complaining over and over about it because they're not going to redo the hardware.

I love the DNA but I also love having the latest HTC available, how many of y'all will be considering doing whatever you have to in your situation to get your hands on this phone? I wish I could say I'll stay content with my DNA, I just remember saying that about the rezound and incredible lte.

I'm not dropping my DNA but I'm for sure getting the One.
I'd like to say I'm considering the HTC one, but not sure I'd consider it on Verizon. Id honestly like to see them come out with a smaller screen, like 4.3", with some decent hardware specs. Just not feeling the larger screens anymore.
I like the HTC One for sure, but I don't know if it's enough of a jump over the DNA to warrant the change. I'm still on unlimited data, so I'm going to need to buy my next phone outright, and I think it might be worth waiting for next year's HTC flagship since the DNA is still so awesome.
Pretty sure they will come out with DNA 2 in November. Just my hunch

I plan on getting it at some point, I just know it won't be at a subsidised price. I'd like to keep my DNA but the cheapest way for me to get the One will be rapid exchanging it at best buy until they junk it out cause I know they don't have too many DNA refurbs lying around (worked for bb until recently, I know my way around Geek squad plans). I would've waited for the one (just upgraded to DNA in April) if I didn't have that contingency in place. Still think the DNA is a great phone, I wouldn't mind or be surprised if another one showed up on the fall but with an even bigger screen (which is what kept me away from this one so long).
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
There's NO comparison between the DNA and the one. The one blows the DNA away in every aspect especially speed and efficiency. I run mine overclocked to 2.1GHz an still get 1/3 more battery life than my DNA at stock clock speeds. Screen is brighter, phone is thinner, cameras are better, DEVELOPMENT is better (because it's cross carrier), speakers are WAAAAAY louder and have depth..... get the one
It's actually crossed my mind to sell my DNA and pick this up.. I have to sell the DNA because I can't afford a retail purchase without the cash from the DNA .. I could always just add a line and upgrade.. but not sure that would be a viable option ... Still waiting on the retail cost.. Will it be the same as other carriers with the One you think?

I'd guess around 650-700 retail. I cant remember if the DNA was 650 or 699, but I was thinking the One was slightly cheaper when it launched.
I should add to my above comment in the second post, it's likely I'll get the ATT version of the One, because of the development with the GSM versions. I carry an ATT and Verizon device in my pocket, so it may end up being One and DNA as my daily drivers.
You guys interested in the One, you can sell really old smartphones like the Wildfire, Blackberry Curve, Incredible, etc for $100 a piece in ATT gift cards.

Just think, the first time I paid full retail for a phone and the first time I have ever damaged a device were about a week apart. Yeap, I busted my $700 device when it was a week old, I was sick.
I was really scared to tell my girlfriend as she bought it for me for Valentines Day. But when I finally told her she was like "Baby really? The phone, you're that upset about a phone? I thought you got a little girl pregnant or something, you really had me scared."
Don't get me wrong, the One is an amazing phone, but I would rush off the DNA. Its still a powerful device, and in my opinion the One isn't a huge enough leap for me to rush to get it. .02$

lol they are the same phone. the one only has a sightly faster cpu out of the box and diffrent speaker placement. .... both phones have independent amps a similar shape, similar components, similar software (they even have a rom if you like blinkfeed).... 200 mhz faster big whoop, is not like you cant oc it to 1.7... its silly to buy one if you got a dna..... its like throwing away or trading in a black 2012 Tahoe for a silver 2013 Tahoe (its the same exact truck).. if you had like a gs3 or a razr or something older it makes sense to wait a lil bit and buy it instead of the dna cuz it is the newest phone.

You can't assume that features like those you mentioned are the only thing important to everyone. It's kind of like assuming that everyone who buy's a device plans to talk on it. We are far from the average or typical consumers and there's way more than a few hundred mhz to our purchasing decisions.
I'm not saying you are right or wrong, I'm just saying that you should consider with an open mind that a lot of people could care less about the specs on the side of the box and put the emphasis on something dev related when making purchases. It's like saying everyone cares about battery life. Or nobody likes HTC Sense. There's a wide variety of people, ideas, and personalities in the development community that the standard consumer rules don't apply too.
You have to also remember that the reason we have Android devlopers on new devices is because they were stupid enough to buy a new device that was only a slight upgrade above the old one.
Off Topic: I spent three days with a GS4 and wasn't impressed with it at all.
