[Q] Strange Hboot version - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was looking to see what hboot version my phone, evo 4g, had but on the boot loader it shows my hboot as 6.16.1002.
I'm currently using CM 7.1 with the lastest tiamat kernal if that helps.
If anyone can help me figure our what version i really have, as I have checked the update thread with all the hboot version and mine is nowhere near any of these I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Frostbiter

Hboot 6.16 is the hboot you get ONLY when you root with revolutionary. There's no need to downgrade you "technically" have the latest

You can flash a new hboot in recovery. I flashed the newest one and wouldn't boot. Then I was told to reflash my kernel after and all is well. Although... I just realized I'm already rooted. Maybe there is an update.zip floating around you can use. Get a better answer than mine before trying anything.

Thanks for the reply but you have to be rooted to flash the hboot

Don't update hboot (if you even can without root...), you'll just make more work for yourself! 0.97 is much easier to root than 2.02. You can still one-click root 0.97. Consider yourself lucky he doesn't have a newer phone with 2.02.

Updating Hboot

I've been using CM7 nightly lately and I wanted to restore my stock rom but I keep getting bootloops so I was wondering if it has anything to do with HBoot and if it does how do I check what version I have and how to go about updating it to right one. Thank you ahead of time.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Turn off your phone, and hold the "volume down" button and power until you get to the fastboot screen. You will see your HBOOT verison up at the top.
Updating your HBOOT usually requires you to flash an update in the form of a PB31IMG file, but I could be wrong about that. I remember updating mine, but I just forget exactly what I did.

Try clearing your data, cache, and dalvik cache, then restore your old stock rom.
I just checked and I have Hboot version 0.92 and radio 2.15 and I believe that's what I should have so I don't understand why I keep getting bootloops but I will try clearing data/cache/dalvik and see what happens. Ty guys for the help so far its truly appreciated.

Did you know once CM7 is released it will require CWM 3 ? message from koush - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897026
Changing HBOOT is just like changing a radio. Often they are packaged together.
Updating to hboot 92
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788454
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=55
hboot files 77 , 79 , and 92
http://adrynalyne.us/files/hboot/
Be sure you have the file name proper in the proper case. The most common mistake is not having your SD Card formatted to FAT32
After changing HBOOT I am pretty sure it wipes the kernel and you have to install a kernel.
Good Luck, Don't Brick

Not sure about CM, but some ROMs do require 9.01
Lou said he is not updating the Redemptive rEVOlution rom as it would require the new EVO radio 11.19
I use the 7.28 radio, it is the most stable for me, other radios cause my device to overheat. YMMV
Would it be easier to RUU back to stock and then go from there?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Maybe not: if you do the RUU, your Incredible becomes s-On and you
can't do much of anything with it at all. To accept roms or kernels again, you'll have to flash with unREVOKED to turn s-Off and install clockwork recovery.

Newest radio??

I'm running 2.15.00.0808
Is there a newer radio?
Thanks in Advance

No, that is the newest radio. Any reason why?
I'm running 2.15.10.05.06
umm
2.15.10.07.07 is the last and newest radio for the dinc
I'm really new to the whole HTC Incredible since it's my girlfriends phone (and we don't even have CDMA phones where I live). But she gave me a green light to toy around with it so here I am.
Where do I get the latest radio and is it worth upgrading? Most topics about this are so old and contain old files or broken links.

Yes for the Evo .0808 is the latest i believe, and it came out after the Incredibles .07.07
So newest has nothing to do with version numbers?
The last 4 digits represent when it was released. .07.07 radio was released July 7th. I believe the .10 portion represents gingerbread. The previous radios had .00 for froyo.

The newest radio for the incredible is 2.15.10.07.07
The eng bootloader is part of the unrevoked 3 / forever package. Eng bootloader is what unlocks the nand write protection so we can get s-off.
If your already s-off and rooted to use fastboot you need to install adb on your pc and also the fastboot.exe files.

You are going to want to try out different radios and not just rely on the newest one. Depending on your area, a new radio version may give you worse performance. Try a few of them out and see which one works best for you.

[Q] The latest R&R methods...

Hi guys,
I'm helping a friend root his EVO 4G. I asked for some help doing this on another friends phone a while back as it was shortly after 2.3.3 was released OTA. Well that worked well, and so I run into this issue.
This EVO, the one I'm helping my friend with now, is also running 2.3.3. There are a number of new ROMS out there now and I was looking towards maybe flashing a Sense 3.0 ROM.
But I'm unsure as to which rooting method to use. It was a bit more complex the first time as 2.3.3 was new and you could not S-OFF then. But if I can I would like to S-OFF this EVO.
Can you guys post some links to the threads where I can find the help that I need? Does UnrEVOked support 2.3.3 now???
Any help would be much appreciated...
Regards,
PAinguINx
Revolutionary.io is the only way to root the phone

Thanks evo4gnoob. I've never heard of that but I'll check into it. Thank you for the post!
If the phone has 2.18 hboot, then just give revolutionary.io some time to update...
Not Sent
PAingulNx, that would be dependent on what Hboot the phone has, to what method of rooting you would use. As {ParanoiA} stated, you can wait for revolutionary.io to update for Hboot 2.18 (if that's what the phone is on) or try unlocking the bootloader via HTCDEV method. Which I try to explain here, not sure if I did a good job, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21680991&postcount=1.
HBOOT Version
Thanks guys...
It's been a minute since I've rooted an EVO. Can I check the HBOOT version in "Software Information" or do I need to boot in to Recovery?
In software information I have two numbers that resemble the HBOOT version.
The first is "Baseband Version" which is 2.15.00.0808. The other is the PRI Version which is 2.15_003.
Are either of these the HBOOT version?
Thanks again and sorry for the newb question...

Hey guys,
Revolutionary worked beautifully! My friend's EVO now has S-OFF and ROOT...
All I need to do now is determine which ROM to use. I still have Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo and I see now that 3.5 is out. So I will be flashing that soon. But for my friend's EVO I'm still not sure.
Any suggestions?

I'm trying to do the same thing as the OP. Could you explain what RUU is, or link me to a thread with it please?
EDIT - Nevermind, I found the thread.
Don't know how you'll be able to RUU considering the fact that the most recent one only goes to software version 4.67. Personally I would follow the instructions on how to S-off Hboot 2.18 and downgrade the misc partition, at which time you can run a totally stock Sprint ROM through the bootloader. You'll be unrooted and on a older Hboot but if you flash the right ROM you won't have to worry about locking and unlocking the bootloader; you can also use either Unrevoked or Revolutionary to root your phone and gain S-off

Start at step #28. It's actually fairly simple so long as you have ADB set up on your computer. You'll need to be on a Sense ROM, otherwise you'll get an error running the commands when you go to downgrade your misc partition. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you need any help.

The best kernel is the one that works best for you. On AOSP, the Mason kernel worked pretty good for me. I never ran a custom kernel on Sense but I've heard that ca1ne's Underworld kernel is good.

If you are running the stock Sprint ROM rooted, Ca1nes's Classic Kernel is a good replacement and is available with or without SBC. This kernel is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557248
