I'm trying to do the same thing as the OP. Could you explain what RUU is, or link me to a thread with it please?
EDIT - Nevermind, I found the thread.

Don't know how you'll be able to RUU considering the fact that the most recent one only goes to software version 4.67. Personally I would follow the instructions on how to S-off Hboot 2.18 and downgrade the misc partition, at which time you can run a totally stock Sprint ROM through the bootloader. You'll be unrooted and on a older Hboot but if you flash the right ROM you won't have to worry about locking and unlocking the bootloader; you can also use either Unrevoked or Revolutionary to root your phone and gain S-off

Why don't you just flash the rooted version of the 5.07.651.6 stock rooted ROM? It is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671395

Please!! Help

Start at step #28. It's actually fairly simple so long as you have ADB set up on your computer. You'll need to be on a Sense ROM, otherwise you'll get an error running the commands when you go to downgrade your misc partition. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you need any help.

I highly doubt that your phone is hosed. Could be a number of issues not related to your phone. Give it a little while and try again.

The best kernel is the one that works best for you. On AOSP, the Mason kernel worked pretty good for me. I never ran a custom kernel on Sense but I've heard that ca1ne's Underworld kernel is good.

If you are running the stock Sprint ROM rooted, Ca1nes's Classic Kernel is a good replacement and is available with or without SBC. This kernel is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557248

Trying to avoid a brick! Quick help.

I got myself into a interesting situation. A quick answer would be greatly appreciated:
1. I'm rooted.
2. Trying to install the OTA so I can run 2.2 the right way.
3. I started a thread asking for help because I was confused on unrooting my phone. Didn't get much help, a quick flame, and last someone chimed in to install the OTA from Rom Manager. I asked if I could do this with Root and the thread was killed.
4. I did. The boot screen was the new one. But the radio wasn't updated.
5. I then attempted to unroot my phone. Followed the PB31IMG.zip method. Phone booted normally. Root was lost.
6. This is where I am now.
7. My question is, if I install the OTA now renamed update.zip on my SD card, will I run the chance of bricking my phone because I installed it once from Rom Manager while I had root (#3/#4)??????
Please advise so I don't MOD EDIT up my phone.................
And if you're going to flame and insist I should of just followed the 2.2 leak instructions, you're correct. But I took someone's quick answer and tried it assuming they knew a better method.

Well, "the right way" would be to wait for the actual OTA. Verizon would also have your back if you brick. But, anyway...
If you're still on the 1.00.03.04.06 radio, you can probably follow the instructions in that thread now that you've flashed back to the stock ROM. However, there still seem to be a few cases of people bricking their phones or being stuck in a bootloop after flashing leaks.
If you are confused/concerned/afraid of bricks then you just shouldn't flash the leaked OTA. This is not a flame, this is sound advice. Wait for the real one.
I'm fine with flashing. I just keep hearing about this "double install OTA and brick your phone" issue and I'm trying to avoid doing that. If the one guy didn't chime in with the suggestion to use ROM Manager, I wouldn't of had this issue.
My radio is still 1.00.03.04.06. I just want to make sure I don't run a risk of bricking.

I personally have had a .77 HBOOT since I got my phone in April. My mom's phone, on the other hand, had the .79, which she has had since May, and she sure as hell didn't have no 720p camcorder. I don't think that the OP's phone having .79 means with any certainty that the OTA already applied once. I think the radio version listed on the HBOOT screen would be a better indicator.
But absolutely, running the PB13IMG should ensure that he's as far back as he can go, so why not try it just to be safe...

That's what I just did before I posted this thread. I installed the PB13IMG and restored everything back to stock. You asked about the HBOOT version and that's .79. I'm comfortable flashing and doing the update. What should HBOOT say? Has anyone successfully updated the OTA from .79 HBOOT?
Thank you for the help. Sorry for the questions. I completely comfortable with rooting, flashing roms, and kernals. This is going back to unroot stock is just new.
I want to install the OTA and I'm good to go. Just making sure it's safe now....

Agreed, however, I noticed after running the PB13IMG, my HBOOT was also .79, which could have only come from the PB13IMG since I hadn't tried to do the OTA yet. Just trying to add pieces to the puzzle to get a better picture for future reference...I'm sure this guy wont be the last to ask...

I appreciate the help guys. I guess my question would be if I ran PB13IMG, lost my root, back to stock, my HBOOT is .79 and my radio is still 1.00.03.04.06 and not 2.05.00.06.11, I should be at the same point as everyone else for installing the OTA from my SD card. Right or wrong?
When you read these threads and people are installing the OTA twice and bricking, are they installing the OTA again when the radio is already updated to 2.05.00.06.11?
Yep. I think you can flash it again, but be real cautious, as this is your second time flashing it, but if the radio is still the old versoin, you should be safe.

if you had been reading up on rooting and really doing your research then you should have learned that you never accept an update right when it comes out because you lose the ability to root until a fix is found (and it often takes some time).

just tried htcdev method to unlock phone. phone now shows unlocked. success with booting twrp recovery, will try to flash rom utilizing same method as EVO 3D users with HBOOT 1.50, should be the same. will update.
Edit: Okay, just booted up SWAG ROM. Unlocked using HTCDEV method. Pushed the kernel via adb fastboot, boot.img from the unzipped ROM folder. Then flashed the zip which was on the root of the SD card, just as described in the EVO 3D development forums, using twrp1.1.1.

Here's what I came up with. Still may do a video. Hope it makes sense, it was very early/late when I wrote this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458491
Slightly off this topic, but along the same lines, so I didn't want to start another thread.
I rooted back in November, prior to the latest OTA update - and had a pretty good understanding of what I was doing - I think.. heh
I NEVER flashed a new ROM, Kernel, Radio, etc. Only backedup, rooted, removed some bloatware, and that's it.
I still have superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip (I think?) in my root folder of my SD Card. Nothing else.
I backed up my Nandroid to my computer, as well as all the TitaniumPro backups of bloatware.
I saw Brad560's two posts - both Barebones and Stock ROM's.
In the Stock post, he listed Deodex'ed, Odexed, and Original UnRooted ROM. This confused me, as I'm still trying to wrap my head around the flashing part. Then I saw a reply about Radios?
I think at this point, I definitely want to remain rooted, but would like the "official" release from HTC/Sprint (in root form, stable, as close to the original as possible, for now).
Which ROM should I grab?
Will I need to flash a new kernel? I don't have any desire to overclock or anything.
And will I need to update the Radios separately?
Thanks, sincerely appreciate any help.
Just read in brads thread and all your answers will be there.

Thanks for replying.
I have read it. That's the first time I had heard of those things, which is why I asked here.
I think some folks forget what's it like to learn this stuff.. and while many here have been around for awhile and have absorbed over time, there are people like me (a military pilot btw lol) who has a tough time grasping some of the verbiage. I had the rooting thing down. Flashing a ROM seemed easy enough, though hadn't done it. Then someone throws up 3 versions in that post and 2 in the other. I get his barebones stuff - for the most part - he stripped stuff out.
Anyway, I suppose I will take the plunge and pick one of the ROMs, then suppose flash the latest radios.
Thanks!

For the time being, only way to "root"/unlock is via HTCDEV method which requires you be connected to your computer via USB sync cable.

[Q] The latest R&R methods...

Hi guys,
I'm helping a friend root his EVO 4G. I asked for some help doing this on another friends phone a while back as it was shortly after 2.3.3 was released OTA. Well that worked well, and so I run into this issue.
This EVO, the one I'm helping my friend with now, is also running 2.3.3. There are a number of new ROMS out there now and I was looking towards maybe flashing a Sense 3.0 ROM.
But I'm unsure as to which rooting method to use. It was a bit more complex the first time as 2.3.3 was new and you could not S-OFF then. But if I can I would like to S-OFF this EVO.
Can you guys post some links to the threads where I can find the help that I need? Does UnrEVOked support 2.3.3 now???
Any help would be much appreciated...

PAingulNx, that would be dependent on what Hboot the phone has, to what method of rooting you would use. As {ParanoiA} stated, you can wait for revolutionary.io to update for Hboot 2.18 (if that's what the phone is on) or try unlocking the bootloader via HTCDEV method. Which I try to explain here, not sure if I did a good job, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21680991&postcount=1.

It's been a minute since I've rooted an EVO. Can I check the HBOOT version in "Software Information" or do I need to boot in to Recovery?
In software information I have two numbers that resemble the HBOOT version.

Are either of these the HBOOT version?

You gain full s-off. With s-on unlocked you can't write to the radio partition and others. So if a rom comes with a custom kernel you will have to flash the boot.img from fastboot then the rom I think

Well I guess it will be worth it to go the full rought then. I feel like kind of a dip****, lol problems last night turned out to be a bad USB cord, what a noob mistake. Anyways Thanks again for the assistance.

i recommend down grading to 2.3.3 and using revolutionary
ok so i decided to attempt to get s-off useing the method at the end of this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1473373 . when i run the flash_image commands in adb it doesnt actually flash it just mocks the commands. I know the device is recognized by adb, i went back to stock rom rooted , even tried useing the RArecovery, so what could the issue be or is there an alternative method of acheiveing s-off ?,,,Thanks

You can flash custom kernels fine with just the unlocked bootloader. The boot partition is unlocked, along with the system and recovery partitions.

[Q] update to 2.3.5

i am trying to update my wfs to android 2.3.5 from 2.3.3
i have tried all methods on this forum to no avail.
i have searched and read almost all threads
marvel pvt ship s-on rl ( unlocked bootloader)
h boot 1.08.0099
radio 7.53.39.03m
android 2.3.3
htc sense 2.1
kernel 2.6.35 10-g60b2609
build number 1.33.771.5 cl44680 release-keys
do apologies if i am being a complete noob but anyone able to help
ur still on stock rom?
and got 2.3.3? and want to get to 2.3.5???
just do an update in symstemsetting>aboutphone> system update
you have unlocked bootloader. do you also have cwm recovery?
if yes, you need to reinstall stock recovery and re-lock bootloader before installing official 2.3.5.
if FOTA does not work, see marvel stock rom collection in the dev section
I just got notification of an OTA update today.
So I have two problems...
Is there a link to stock recoveries? I'm pretty sure I don't have any sort of backup as I never messed with recovery till I put CWM on my phone lol.
Also, I know I rooted and S-OFF my phone, honestly don't remember if I unlocked the bootloader, pretty sure I did. (I'm assuming if it doesn't say RELOCKED or LOCKED OOW it's unlocked)
Is there a guide I can follow to re-lock and put stock recovery back onto the Wildfire S (specifically A510C/MARVELC)?

and i have tried updating via FOTA by relocking bootloader but when it tries to update it stops with a android in a triangle.
any official htc rom try fails .
try this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445867

I believe it means "Firmware Over The Air".
And for the record, the work that you have achieved means NO, you are not dumb.
I was always told that there are NO dumb/stupid questions, only sometimes some answers.

I have NO idea with that at all.
I did do a Google Search for "Kang" only the other day. The only things that came up were about Kangaroos. I gave up after that.

Just finished reading it.
It should be very handy for a lot of people.
I'm no Newbie but I'm also no expert.
I've done a lot of work including learning how to build/modify an existing ROM but for Windows Phone. I've had my WFS since July 2011, so I'm still learning. However, I would love to S-OFF my phone and modify a STOCK ROM. This is beyond me at present but maybe one day I can learn. All I would really like to do is delete application I would never use. Basically just customising to my own preferences.
At least this is a start.
Thank you very much.

It should. If it did, just unlock again as I THINK it may relock your bootloader.
If not, good.
Managed to change numbers and reflash following tutorial. But when I went to flash to 2.3.5 it came up with customer cid error.
Any help please.
