Hey all...
Just curious since I know most of us Evo 4g users are coming up on 2 years with this phone, what would you choose as a replacement phone if you had to? I am looking around and I find absolutely nothing with Sprint that I am willing to change to. So, what would you upgrade to if you absolutely had to? I have 3 evo's on my account right now, and I am thinking I just keep the evo... with all the awesomeness here at XDA, the damn phone does what I want it to. Sure, it may not be the fastest thing on the planet, but if I need to do something, my phone most likely can....
So, gimme some opinions!
Galaxy S2, super amoled screen...

Right now, nothing. There is no point in upgrading to a new phone now when the new 4g LTE phones should be rolling out this summer.

I got the Galaxy 2, Evo and Evo3D and I must admit the Epic Touch as its called is a hell of a phone. The Evo3D battery life is not as bad as I thought it would be also but if you have to get another phone look into the Epic Touch and you wont be disappointed. They are working on CM7 and MiUI as we speak. Also the whole LTE thing is not that big of a deal since they are not abandoning Wimax. If thats a problem then just trade for the phone or buy one off of Craigslist and preserve your upgrade
If I had to it would be an evo3d but i would rather wait till the lte line up came out
Honestly every time I start looking at phones I usually give up because all I want is a current Developer phone on the Sprint Network. I have 3 Evo's on my plan, one started out as a Nexus S, but due to antenna reception issues that was replaced by an Evo. I want a Nexus phone, but it has to be on Sprint, and I don't want the S....I think I'll be waiting a while.
I heard one guy singing praises about the Motorolla Photon but I heard that it doesn't have GPS or something like that.

I'm waiting for the next Evo. I hope our current devs upgrade this summer and current 3d devs upgrade shortly after.

We added a Samsung Galaxy S 2 and it looks great and is a lot faster..but I would agree with others saying I'd wait until they came out with a 4G LTE phone...
I have been trying to find rumors on what sprint is going to have with LTE and see nothing... I like the Nexus, but I am staying with sprint due to the data plan, but frankly, they are going back to how they once were, where they get the crap phones first and the good ones take a year or more, if they get them at all. I know they are pushing the iphone now, but I do hope they remember those of us that will never go to an apple phone after having an Android.
Rumor has it the note is coming. If that tickles your fancy.
Whatever has the most development. Probably Galaxy Nexus.

If I lost this evo today and had to choose a different replacement, I'd go with the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic.

my upgrade is in october '12
hopefully the moto razr maxx with quad core and lte comes to sprint then
I'm Getting the lte galaxy nexus that was announced for sprint yesterday. I have to wait tell may but it should be out by then.

The next must have phone for Sprint would be the Galaxy Nexus!
im gonna have to say galaxy nexus
The 2 phones I've got my eye on are the Epic Touch and the Galaxy Nexus.
My biggest complaint with the Nexus is that the camera is 5mp. Plus, I don't know if LTE will be coming here and I don't know if I necessarily want to give up the Wimax.
went from evo to epic 4g touch haven't been sorry the new nexus is coming to sprint and will be 4g lte so thats a good option.
If I had to choose right now it would be the Galaxy S2 ......but the summer is right around the corner

Hello to all my wonderful people of XDA,
I have a question that I need answered. I have recently reached my full $150 upgrade for Sprint and have noticed some pretty cool phones are out. I currently have the EVO 4G, running the 07/22 MIUI and LOVING MY PHONE currently. However my addiction to having the latest and greatest is killing me. I am not interested in the EVO 3D as everything I have read, if you already have a EVO don't bother. However I recently seen the Motorola Photon and must say it is pretty impressive. I have also read about the Galaxy S II that is coming out and suppose to be awesome as well.
My question for you awesome people is, what should I do. Should I grab the Photon (even though there is no ROM's available). Or should I wait for something else. Please any and all suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
I was/am considering buying the Photon. I found someone who is going to buy my EVO and I too have the $150 off deal with 2 year agreement.
However, from what I've been reading, the Sprint version of the S II might be called the Epic Touch 4G and it might be available in September.
So, I am waiting a few more weeks to sell my EVO then head to the Sprint store and look at both of the phones side by side. I'll more than likely get the SGSII

I am thinking of the same thing. I'm pretty sure I can sell my EVO for the $200 that the Photon will cost. I had a chance to play with the Photon on Saturday and the Dual Core is pretty slick. The phone was very responsive (IPhone what???). Anothing deciding factor is, will it be a phone and program that will gain the attention of the XDA Developers. Coming from a Hero and then a Evo, I had several options. Time will only tell. Good luck to us both with the decision!!!!
Hi guys!!!!! I've missed my EVO!!! Since then I've go.e through like 8 smart phones but I miss this one the most, the development for this phone was insane, so with the new EVO coming out, will a lot of you devs that made the of EVO get it? I was considering getting the one x from at&t but after at&t tampered with it......yea its horrible

Go to the General section of this forum. There's like four threads devoted to this topic. Some good information on what devs are going to the new EVO too.
I'm definitely getting it. I hope miui makes it an official device.
I would if I was still with sprint and there internet actually worked. Lte will probably not be in my area for another year or two so I switched to Verizon that has had it almost a year. Sprint is the only major carrier that doesn't have 4g in my area....... Even metro POS has it ( because they use verizons LTE but still)

Depends on Sprint and their network roll out. I'm not upgrade eligible until Nov/Dec, if the network hasn't done anything I'm just gonna keep flashing my Evo out of contract until they get my area up and running.

this is my plan exactly
ehh probably not
It kills me to see they brought the kick stand back but then pulled the rug from underneath by not having a removable battery. I mean come on, I love the fact that I can just swap the battery out and be back at 100 percent in just a few minutes. Having to be plugged in for a charge totally blows, especially when you are always on the move.
I recently dropped my HTC thunderbolt and found my self in my old iPhone 4 for the time being. My question is, should I upgrade and get the nexus or should I buy an android tablet for the time being? I realize why I left the iPhone and I'm having a really hard time going back to using it for utility.
I own my own computer business so that's why I'm debating tablet or handset.
Thanks for your comments and feedback!
Personally I'd wait. The iPhone 4 is a good phone and the gnex is gonna be trumped soon enough by a quad core beast
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I don't really have a problem with my iPhone 4. But I had a lot of utility apps on my android I used for remote access and file management. Not to mention tools for measuring wifi signal and various others. I'm happy with the battery life on my old iPhone lol but I'd give it up for 4g too.
If it were any other provider beside Verizon...I'd be inclined to say wait...maybe.
I just absolutely love my GNex.
And...the unlocked bootloader.
And who know when the next Unlockable phone will drop on Verizon.
And Quad Core?
At least not yet.
No love for us in that department; as LTE doesn't play nicely. And Verizon won't allow any more phones that don't have LTE on their network.
Are you buying the phone off contract ? Cause if you are you can try Craigslist you will probably get a good deal

Id go with the gnex, I had a tbolt before as well and is definitely worth it
I have Sprint and I'm due for an upgrade in about 2 weeks, so I was hoping the lovely people of XDA could tell me if the Galaxy Nexus is worth using the upgrade discount, or if I should go for another phone/carrier.
Right now I have the Nexus S 4G, which is great, I'm just curious if there are any known issues with the Sprint Galaxy Nexus, or any bugs, etc.
Thanks in advanced
i think galaxy nexus is very much better than nexus s, definitely it's worth to upgrade.
There are many people who have issues with the screens being grainy and ghosting. You will give up 4g for quite a while as well. I've read quite a bit about the phone's data connection dropping although I've never encountered it.
I would honestly hang on to the upgrade/end of contract until we find out whats going to be happening with the next Nexus phone.
My opinion is to drop Sprint and roll your own plan. I know it can be different for everyone, but for my area Sprint was horrible and costly. I mean the cheapest post paid, but man prepaid is so much better.
With Sprint in the area I live and work Sprint use to be great. But more recently it's the worst. Mog skips like crazy. miss calls. The speeds were horrible. At work I asked to speed test my co workers phones. One Verizon and one att. They destroyed my speed. I was, at best, getting 300k they were between 1000 to 3000k. And they were not on lte. Just 3g, and they have older phones. I had the sgs2 at the time. Well anyways I dropped Sprint and went with prepaid plans. Now I have service in more area and its FAST. And half the price. I know,I know you have unlimited data. But how often do you go over 2gb a month ? Check out you history on the Sprint page. It will tell you how much data you used for the last 6 months. I was surprise d how little data I use. But I am in Wi-Fi when at work and home so I guess the only time I use the network is while commuting.
Once again this was best for me. Maybe not for you. But after the trouble I had with Sprint, then having to fork over a ton of money to get away, I must say I am now saving 800 a year, and free.
Sprint has no responsibility to provide you cell phone service. In the contract you sign it never states that they have to give you anything, but you will have to pay every month for 2 years. Crazy.
Sorry for the rant.
Buy the gsm gnex. It's not much more then the newest phones after the discount. Or stay on Sprint, wait until November and see what the next nexus will be. then buy that one.

Galaxy nexus is a great upgrade from NS4G! And if you love Vanilla Android its truly the only way to go. Jelly bean is an amazing reason to get one and you're looking at months and months til any other phones aside from Gnex that are running official jellybean updates. Just my opinion. I have had every Nexus phone to date. I really don't care for skinned Android phones. Its not about the hardware for me. Its more about the development support and development lifespan of the device. And the Nexus line usually gets the most dev love.
I don't feel another Nexus phone may launch as usual this winter...as with history the Nexus usually drops with the newest version of Android. Nexus 7 and Q came out with Jellybean so unless Key Lime Pie is due out this year Google may keep it in the bag until then.

Get rid of sprint and get a real gnex.
Hey you stole my sig!
Yes and no...
The GNex is an awesome device, so it's definitely worth the upgrade. I would pick the GSM GNex tho. In fact I would choose the GSM GNex over any other Android phone that is currently available, including the SGS3. So if you can't wait, the GNex is the only way to go, imo.
But if I had the Nexus S already, I would probably consider waiting for the next Nexus. I don't know about the 4G version but it seems the regular Nexus S will get JB sometime soonish. It's still a nice device.
Ive been mulling this over too.
Currently on the S2. Thinking of changing to the Gnex. Can get a Gnex in the UK for roughly £250, the S2 could sell between £200/250.
Its tempting just for JB
Nexus 4 not an option, so what do I do now?
Here's my question: Sprint Galaxy Nexus owners, do I buy it, or should I get something else.
I really want AOSP. I'm really tired of physical and capacitive buttons. I currently have the SGSII Epic 4G Touch. I want a Google phone.
So, has this phone lived up to your expectations? What do you hate about it? Is it just freaking awesome? Ready? GO!
I'm kind of in the same position as you, I cannot get the Nexus 4 on VZW. I'm really not upset about it, I'm very happy with the Gnex, especially on CM10. Can't speak for Sprint but as for the phone I'm still happy with it after 8 months, and plan to keep it for the foreseeable future.:good: Like you said, its hard to go wrong with AOSP.
How's your battery life? My E4GT has been nothing been a pain, battery-wise.
Battery life is not great. I'm using the OEM extended battery and I still have to have a charger at work.
Drop your sprint contract (is it close to expiring?) if you can. Sell your epic 4g touch and switch to straight talk and buy a nexus 4. I used to have an e4gt flashed on virgin mobile and the sprint service I got was horrible. My new set up is much better. Also your monthly bill savings will make up for the cost of the phone fast.

I've been considering that, but my savings would be negligible since we're on a family plan. Also, since I get to be selfish and take everyone's upgrades, I'll be able to hand-me-down the Galaxy Nexus when something cool comes out... I'm so lost! I really have been seriously considering just buying the damn Nexus 4 and shopping other plans off contract. Is it really that much better?
...and, Target has the GNex for $49.99 right now.
I just bought a Sprint Galaxy Nexus and have right now an Epic 4G Touch! I am sure it'll be worth it. I bought it for around 225 off contract and ill sell this for around 150$ so it's like I spent only 70 bucks. I wouldn't panic. If you wanted a new phone you can sell the Gnex since it'll still hold its value. Waiting has got me nowhere and I know the Nexus 4 isn't coming to Sprint any time soon. Good luck!

I got the GNex with sprint this August.. I love this phone. The curved screen, so much dev support, Google support. Well, kinda. I been rooted since day one so always been on custom ROMs and kernels. My battery last all day with 4 hr screen on time with the extended battery that Sprint gives you for free. I say if you have LTE in your city go with the GNex. We have LTE here in San Antonio and it just keeps getting better and better. I don't know why people keep on hating on sprint, I have awesome service here.
