I'd try backing up all the stuff you need, then factory reset and re-update.

Hard reset.
that fixed my issues.

Hello galacticu,
I personally use Rerware Backup Pro and i never regretted the purchase. Bought it for half price when it was eoy sale. Everytime i test out another rom i backup everything, then flash my phone to whatever rom i want to try out and restore my sms over it. With the restore i just select sms. Everything seems to just restore itself the contacts, installed apps, ...etc. I know exactly how you are feeling and it will hurt if i do lose all those smses. Since some of them are funny to read. Personally i never had an issue with this app.

That just with android 2.1..With froyo, htc removed that feature
So what should i use ?
Please help, because Titanium backup its not enough for me
Just run a search for what are you looking in the market.
I've done it for you : http://www.appbrain.com/search?q=backup+sms
And the first app that appeared to me seems to have pretty good feedback
http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup/com.zegoggles.smssync
titanium back up ( I am using pro) backups EVERYTHING, including sms, contacts etc provided that you do not change rom. for example contacts in stock rom are backed up under the system app: Contacts Storage 2.2 (mostly all green highlighted elements are important)
Now if you want to change rom, I believe that titanium will only be usable for user apps..
I need that sms, calls , browser bookmarks and etc. have backuped too .

Question about rom's... or to rom users

Hi, I've got a recently rooted HTC desire, and since rooting it I have been playing around with a couple of roms; I have tried both cyanogenmod and a desire hd rom. However with both I have had the same problem - having to start fresh completely, without any of my data. And then having to restore a backup.
So my question is firstly, am I doing something wrong? I have tried restoring my data before but all I ever get is a bootloop when I restart so I have to wipe it again.
And then, if you do have to start afresh, is it really worth it? And why.
Thanks for reading

I try to keep it simple.
You say you've tried restoring your data? With...Clockworkmod? Or what? If you restore only /data-partition with Clockworkmod (I'm not sure if it's even possible, never have tried it) you are bound to have problems.
Same goes with Titanium Backup. When you're switching ROM from say, a Sense rom to Cyanogenmod - don't ever restore all settings. The ROM's are too different and their settings aren't compatible with each other! I myself only restore WiFi Access point list (and installed apps) when switching ROMs.
So if I've understood you correctly, you're not doing anything wrong (unless you're restoring a nandroid after flashing...)
A correct procedure for switching roms (not for updating the same ROM unless stated explicitly!) is:
-Titanium Backup/Mybackup/whatever your apps (and as little settings as possible, it's mostly trial and error)
-Nandroid backup (so you can revert when there are problems)
-Wipe data / factory reset (wipes everything but FAT32-partition of SD-card)
-Flash the new rom
-Restore your apps with TB/something else and manually input your settings (accounts, etc shouldn't be backed up either...)
Something you could consider if you want to jump ROMs all the time, is to set up your installation the way you like it, then do a nandroid backup, install a new rom, then set it up again and backup it, then if you want to switch these 2 roms you can just restore the one you want...Of course replacing the nandroid backup if you've done a lot of changes
Now for your last question: Starting fresh is worth it. Otherwise you will most probably run to force closes and other problems that force you to do a factory reset anyway.
Thanks for the reply! Very helpful... so if I go into titanium backup and backup all apps, will that backup contacts and text messages etc. also? Or will I have to lose them?

Umm, I can't say about contacts, because I always sync them from my work Exchange & Gmail, and for text messages I recommend a free app called SMS Backup+ https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
The software backs up your SMS to your Gmail as messages, to a label called SMS , and they can be restored with a click to your new rom.
Also People app (in Sense) and Dialer (in AOSP roms) can export contacts to SD so you can easily import them back.

[Q] Restoring messages?

Hey,
Today at my first time, I Installed ROM and Kernal and Radio and all this essential crap.
Before I started, I went to HTC Sync software on my PC, and backed up all my files, Calender, People and thou..
But I guess I didn't notice that the SMS messages are not included on the backup list.
So now with my new ROM, when I synced back the files from the HTC Sync, it only bringed me back the Calender, People.. but not the messages,
Witch is pretty important for me, I had alot of important SMSs which I wish to restore.
When I installed the ROM I went through all the steps on the guide including the Wipe thing that I understood it is something backup?
Also I used the google's sync all the time,
Is there any option to get my SMSs from there?
Thank you very much,
Yarden.
As far as I know HTC Sync and Google Sync no backup messages.
You should have previously backup you messages with (for example) Titanium Backup.
If you haven`t Nanodroid Backup previous rom - you can`t restore you messages.
I don't love you..
oh crap. stupid ROM..
and what about the applications?
I see that they also gone,
Can they be restored?
No, apps can`t restore.
Before flash everything, I advise do backup all with TB, nanodroid backup and then flash all that you need.
These actions will help you keep all the data and, if anything, to restore everything as it was.
Good luck.

If you downloaded them through the marketplace they'll automatically download and install when you sign in with your google account on your phone.
sromer, titanium backup does not wipe messages. To backup messages use sms backup+ which is free. If you have a nandroid backup, restore that, backup messages and do your rom thing again.

SMS Backup & Restore would also be a good choice
MyBackup has successfully restored sms, mms etc. for me 10+ times now. definitely worth using. great program!
If you want constant backups I use gosms and only use it yo schedule backups every day at 6, then all is good, but I'm going to start backing up on every text I get

update rom "HD revolution" without losing everything?

good morning
I first want to apologize for my English, I write from Spain.
I use in my OneX the HD revolution mike rom 6.1.1. Mike currently has released the new version 7.0.0 on a new base of HTC.
The question I have is that I now fully configured 6.1.1 rom to my taste, and to load the new version 7.0 should do a full wipe.
You start from scratch you to configure, or you employ a program to backup and restore, and to write the roms automatically configured to your liking?
I have seen many people use the titanium backup, but as a new base, I have to copy EVERYTHING? I do not know if it really is effective
I hope you have understood me, thank you very much in advance!
I use Ultimate Backup Pro, but Titanium Backup Pro will also work...
Ultimate Backup Pro will let you restore all apps + data. That should take care of all your downloaded apps.
Ultimate Backup Pro also can take backup of your account settings (Google, Facebook, etc)
For SMS, Call Logs I use the following apps available in market
SMS Backup & Restore
Call Logs Backup & Restore
Contacts: Google, as I do not have any phone / SIM contacts. They will get loaded automatically once my Google Account Syncs
Never used the Backup tool, to restore home screens but you can give it a try... For me its just 5 minutes to setup all home screens (I take home screen screenshots to quickly remind me of what they looked like)
Hope its helpful...
My backup root is really good, will save apks, data, contact's and everything else you can think of.... And its free!

Titanium Backup for apps, games & data
SMS backup default for SMS
Up rom unlimited
but in the titanium brands copy it ALL? that would otherwise have to go manually selecting things.
And so it copies all, there will be things that "collide" with the new ROM ..
But I fear I have to copy all user apps and give, and copy the new ROM not work correctly.
If you invest in one single app for Android, it should be Titanium Backup Pro. If you only restore apps and apps data and NOT system data you will be just fine with every ROM upgrade. As was mentioned SMS Backup & Restore should be used for SMS backup, and it can also backup and restore call logs.
PS: The free Titanium Backup might be enough for you, but it can only restore apps and their data one by one, not automatically. But you might want to choose apps you restore anyway...
Hey,
How can you update revolution 6.1.1 to 7?
Does 7 have 3 dots menu remover? I have 6.1.1 and it doesnt
PLEASE HELP!

I dont recommend restoring backups because arhd 7.0.0 is a new base
New base - you reinstall all your apps? Very funny Just dont restore system data...
I find a metod to prevent loose all. Before install new rom, do a backup old rom.
Factory reset
Install new rom
NO REBOOT!!
factory reset again
Avanced restore-restore data
Reboot and enjoy!!

Problem with HTC Backup. Incorrect cloud account!?

Hello,
So a few days ago, My HTC One M8 decided to randomly reboot itself. When it restarted it went through the whole optimizing each app (which was weird) and then loaded the home screen. But now most of my stuff has reset itself! I was logged out of every app I am normally automatically logged into. All my photos are still there and text messages. But I have lost every single person in my contact book and call log history! This is what I would like to get back.
I made a backup a couple months ago using HTC Backup. This is what happens when I try to restore the backup:
Apps>HTC Backup>Restore from backup>Checking for saved backup>
Then it finds the backup on Google Drive (G*******[email protected]) So I select the HTC (This Phone) backup and click next>
Then it saids setting up accounts>Choose an account>G*******[email protected]>
Then I get the following error message
"Incorrect cloud storage account"
"Please sign in with the cloud storage account for the selected backup"
Can someone please help? I have opened the Drive app and logged into my account and tried again but still nothing. I assume this problem is arising because of the Drive app or the HTC backup app resetting itself. But I really need my contacts back!
I am running Android 6.0. Not rooted.
Things I have tried to restore my contacts:
Wondershare Dr.Fone
Resyncing contacts on my Gmail, Hotmail etc. (but i never saved them to those)
HTC Phonebook>Contacts to display>All contacts
None of these have worked.
Thanks in advance!
Ok just found out HTC Backup isn't supported with Android 6.0 :/
So with that option off the table.. Is there any way at all that I can get my contact list back?
Ok well seems like I still should have access to the HTC restore function just not the backup function with Android 6.0.
Does anyone know how to help me restore from the back up?
Thanks
HTC restore will restore the backup that you made prior to Marshmallow.
Don't you backup you contact with gmail account ? When you sync it, it will sync your contact ?
The only way that maybe work (no guarantee) is do factory reset. During the setup, it will ask you to restore from which backup that you recently have with Marshmallow and make your selection to restore (don't choose today .. but earlier)

Backing up contacts to Google/Gmail is default and automatic. So unless you changed the default, they should be backed up, and will restore automatically, when you login to your Google account.
