Help rooting Verizon R800x Play - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Its on 2.3.2 and I cant root it. Im pretty experienced with rooting android devices but this one has me stumped. I cant unlock the bootloader and verizon has screwed me over and I cant connect it to PC companion. Any help is appreciated. If you can assist me in upgrading to 2.3.3 I could finish my self. Thanks in Advance!

Usb connection is always the fastest connect plus you keep your phone charged. How hard is that

[Q] Help with rooting (long rant)

Hello people
I'm a user of the Arc s and who has spent over 5 hrs trying to root my phone but with no luck,
I've tried every way of rooting I could find but they ether don't work or I couldn't download the required files.
Meaning when I try and download the flashtools, A i don't know which one if the correct link because theres like 600 links or something and, B the person who uploaded the files had to use a server with a 1 download a hr limet and I'm NOT paying anything or signing up to the hosting place.
When I try one of the easy ways, like the one click app way they don't do anything, like i get cmd popping up for like 2 seconds then closing but nothing happens.
Just so you guys know, I'm not a noob. I have done these things before on different phones, but A it's been a long time scenes I've rooted anything before and B my Arc needs to be rooted in a very strange way which I've never seen before.
So the bottom line is i need help, can anyone help? anything would be useful.
Flashtool has 3 links on the main page ...
http://androxyde.github.com/
All 3 worked fine for me. Let's start there
What build are you on? If it is .62/69 then the one click method its never going to work.
If on .42 then the one click will work
if on ics the easy rooting will work add I have used them both.
Flashtools look for version .7.0.1
When using three one click rooting phone needs to be powered on. Connect via usb run file via PC then follow the promts on screen.
I an not in front of PC so cant post links.

You can use the easy rooting method with ics,I have used it my self.
Look in Dev section for past by doomlord follow his instructions carefully.
You phone switched on with debug enabled and connectEd in mtp mode.

Ok i will do that later. one thing I would like to add is that in all the time I've been using android, I've never had to do anything with unlocking bootloaders.
but I'll come to that after I'm rooted.
Ok well I'm just having bad day,
I've tryed this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
and It doesn't work, I just get waiting for device and nothing happens. I've waited like 30min with nothing. and yes I have got usb debugging on and unknown sources on aswell.
Any ideas on what can be wrong?
ok I've had a bit more luck, I've found the newer version of the program and now it runs through the process but it just fails, I don't get root when the program sas it's fished :S.
now whats going wrong?
Ok I've changed tack, I've tried the flashtools metherd but when I try that it gives me another ******* error. It can't mount the system.
I'm really stuck HELP?
I'm my time of using android I've never had a device this hard to root in my life !!!

sorry I forgot to send you the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
All those numbers are found in phone settings scroll to bottom and select about phone there you will find the build number which is the firmware
Sent from my LT18i using XDA App
It almost sounds like your on GB... seriously. Press Menu - Settings - About (scroll to the bottom you'll have the version of Android you're running)
Ok well I know for a fact I'm on ics and I'm on the latest version of Sony official ics.
Then the following method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314
works like a charm and it's easy as hell.
Thats the one I tried at the start. I still get the can't mount system error.
Theres probably something simple that I'm missing but I have no clue what it could be.

zergRush don't work if you updated your phone after 11/2011
If you updated your phone, you need to flash (with flashtool) a previous version of stock GB in order to root your phone

How do we know if our phone was updated after 11/2011? My phone is the same as the OP, R800i 2.3.4 but I don't remember when I updated to the 2.3.4 or would that be the bad update... lol
The version on About Phone (or run zergRush, if it doesn't work, the phone was updated)

If I just want to remove or move to SD card some of system apps like the Bruce Lee game, do I need to root or unlock the bootloader or both? I'm not looking for Custom ROMs just free up some memory.
Found a super easy way.

After a few frustrating days of searching I found this website http://www.unlockroot.com/index.htm which I just ran and it worked great! I am now a proud owner of a rooted SE XPlay. This program only took about 5 minutes to root my phone and give me superuser (still not sure what that is).
At any rate, you download the program, install it, follow the directions and then run it. It's that simple.
You can find some good info here on apps that you can remove. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699

ok thanks, i may look into that
i just gave up with all the downgrading and rooting
i mainly wanted it to play games on it, but i have found almost all games i wanted for it now, exept for king of fighters, and the latest version of FPSE, both do require a rooted phone
but im happy with what i got already, still might look into rooting it for all the other perks though

Fpse does not require a rooted phone (unless Im reading what you mean wrong then disregard)
Easiest way to root your phone running ANY firmware is to unlock your bootloader and flash Superuser in CWM and your all set.

Well I tried unlocking the bootloader and not sure why but wasn't able to. I used the program that I linked to above which was a simple as installing the program, running it, connecting my phone, clicking the ROOT button and within a few seconds my phone rebooted and was rooted with superuser installed. After that I installed Titanium Backup Pro and went to town.
TOO EASY! :good:
Heck I rooted 4 phones with that program within about 10 minutes.
