[Q] Unroot needed quick - Bada Software and Hacking General

Good morning, A couple months back I came here and found a almost one click root for the samsung epic 4g. Download a couple programs, connect device and it was done. I now have to bring my phone in to sprint for repair or replacement. ( nothing connected to the root, it was great!!!!) Only thing ive done after rooting is froze all bloatware and installed shoot me. Nothing flashed. Can anyone direct me to the easiest way to unroot this device. Thnx in advance for any and all replies.

You'd need an exploit in ICS 4.0.3 itself to do that and we don't currently have one.

you cant do root here easy way because HTC doesnt wont us to do so. ... thats all and simple as that. with another brands like samsung is the process short and easy. blaim HTC ...
android is open source... ICS 4.0.3 its not the problem at all!
If you really want root follow the tutorial at htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader and then follow one of the tutorials on how to install a custom rom (those are basically always rooted)... I'd wait for an S-OFF though.
Some pretty useful guides in Development section...
I found them fairly straight forward with no hi-cups along the way.
Always prefer a challenge over a click of a button
Well for me I would like to root, but I dont want to loose warranty. Altough I want to get rid of soe annoying apps HTC brought with the phone like flickr and 7digital.
You will get back your warrenty if you un-root your phone.

Not sure what you're on but you can't root a Samsung phone from inside Android without using an exploit which is exactly the same as HTC and what the OP was asking for. You need to restart the Samsung and put it into the bootloader same as on a HTC.

Not if you use HTCdev to unlock your bootloader, they keep a log of your device, regardless if you re-lock it.
They'll still replace your device if it's a hardware problem though.

As long as you revert back to stock rom and flash stock recovery you should be fine. Don't see the need to relock as it'll just show unlocked what signs will we have that we've flashed a custom firmware? On SGS devices we had a count number but using a jig we could wipe this back to zero and return to complete stock.

Towelroot. Is it working on the G3?

Did someone try to root the G3 with Towelroot?
http://towelroot.com/
Yes, it will. Even on the S5 without tripping KNOX. Just try it yourself, no risk involved. I haven`t tried it myself but i`am absolutely sure it will get you root.
Good to know.
I should get my G3 next week so I will definitely use it.
Thanks.

Just confirmed with my international D855 unit.
Works flawlessly. Tested with Root checker and Titanium backup.
Still dazed as to how this works... possibly the fastest root method ever! :good:

Appearently its a vulnurability in all android kernels that are build before june 3rd that lets the exploit do its work and install root during the boot sequence without beeing detected.
Yes. It's amazing. This guy have a great talent. He just left the iOS system and went for Android (He developed the iOS Jailbreak). Now Chainfire and other good developers here have competition
Working good

I've never worried about the 'warranty voided' stories. If software could physically damage a device then the device is poorly made. I had three different rooted Samsung that failed due to the 'sudden death syndrome'. They were all fixed under warranty. Never heard of anyone having problems with warranty on a rooted device - only urban myths!

Rooting has always voided warranty. .. There were just ways to return it to stock like it was never rooted.

Not with my rooted phones - any that died or had faults have always been fixed under warranty - going right back to the 'Hero'. If I buy a brand name Windows PC, wipe the hard disk and install Linux, the manufacturer still has to honour their hardware warranty under EU law. Same with mobiles/phones/tablets.
Maybe North American consumer protection laws are not as good as those here in Europe.
For instance, in the EU we can return anything we buy via mail order for a full refund within 14 days for any reason under the 'distance selling' regulations. Goods bought in shops or via mail order also have to be of 'merchantable quality'. As it currently stands, EU customers could obtain a full refund for the LG G3 as it does not work reliably with the Google Chromecast. This is probably why Samsung fixed a similar problem with a software patch when some of their devices had the same problem.

Doing so removes your root access (as you expect) but your device will still refuse to install OTA's

I think you need to reboot and run it again. This time for me, it didn't ask me for a binary update. Just started working. Try it.

OK so I can unroot with SuperSu, the only disadvantage is no OTA, and to unroot with OTA I'd need to perform factory reset, right? How to do it?
After Factory reset,
Do LG backup app restore the whole rom with settings and apps, please?

As posted by @maheshwar, there is a rooted tar file available for $50 on this website... Anyone else see this or attempt it? It's tempting to me if it is legit..

Yea i've seen them, many are having problems because almost everyone is on the new A0J1 firmware (OTA) samsung pushed mid september. And seems that chimera tool uses a custom boot IMG that was built on AOGG firmware the (factory default)[Theorizing], not 100% sure. But, i think downgrading and then running through the tool might resolve some problems.

It still doesn't work, I actually used Odin to downgrade to COGG and then tried to root using the tool, So it successfully "roots" but in the process I lost my IMEI and according to another person on here the tool is useless as it's not the "root" the end user is looking for. I verified this using root checker and it comes back without root. Ended up Going back to the latest firmware with ODIN.
