Have only had my Xda11s for a week and am very pleased with it except for voicemail notification.
I like to get straight back to customers who leave voicemails, but unlike my old Nokia phone which used to leave both a text message AND phone me back several times, my Xda11s has only been leaving text messages which if I am driving, I do not always notice.
I have been into the 901 options and selected "Voice notification" now I get nothing back at all to tell me somebody has left a message (tried it by leaving a message myself).
Any one have any bright ideas why this is or how I can get both a text message and a phone call back from 901 please?
Sorry to answer myself, but having left a second messgae to myself, voicemail did phone back so perhaps it takes 5 or 10 minutes to activate itself.
No text message though, so I presume you can only have one or the other with O2 on Xda's?
Does anybody know if you can have both?
I'm no expert as I don't use voice-mail, but such features are network dependant. In other words, it's the network (O2 or whoever) that calls you back or sends a text, not the phone. The phone merely allows you to change the settings without calling your network provider. If it isn't allowing you to set it up as you wish, you have two options.
One, read your network guide where there will be a list of commands you can use via your phone to change settings (often in the form *# Number number #) or
Two, phone your network provider and ask someone to set up your account to do this for you.
When I update my voicemail settings, or call forwarding, I get a "Unexpected response fron network" error message. I called my provider (Rogers) and said it appears to be correct on their system... However, it doesn't seem so because when people call me, they get forwarded to Google Voice... I already uninstalled Google Voice, and it was taken out already, however, it still forwards to there which is a USA number and I'm in Canada, so people who call me get forwarded to a long distance number and it bothers me and them so much...
Rogers told me to contact HTC but I want to hear your solutions first guys... BTW, I'm using the Virtuous ROM (which is almost entirely stock packages)
Help?

did you use the star codes to disable call forwarding?
What are the star code? Already forgot them... heh

I was getting the same error and this worked for my desire on orange:-

"Try sending ##21# which is the network code to cancel all forwarding."
Call Forwarding Problem
I have an unlocked AT&T Atrix on Orange UK running Gingerbread. As soon as you go and look at the Call Forwarding options the phone indicates that all calls are Forwarded and the Icon top left turns on, disabling 'Foward All' shows disabled for a few seconds then comes back with the 'Unexpected reponse from network' message, although calls are not actually Forwarded (can still receive calls). Old SIM card, but OK in old V3x phone. I tried with a '3' Network SIM and all works as expected, so definitely an Orange problem with Android/Atrix. I called Orange who sent some SIM updates one of which failed, called them again and they decided to send me a new SIM but this has made no difference at all.
Only way to reset the indicator and message once on, is to enter ##21# which does the job.
Just an annoying Network bug but interested if anyone knows how to get Orange (and I guess T-Mobile) to do anything about this as it seems from other research to affect several different phone makes and models.
Same issue
I'm Having the same issue on Rogers with my Xperia ion....still ahven't sorted it out
Any Resolution to this issue? I have what appears to be an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 Active from ATT and attempting to use my CRICKET SIM and I get this message.
In the past two days it seems my phone has been acting up. I can give you some information about it. I hope this is enough.
Phone - Epic 4g
Firmware Version - 2.3.5
Baseband Version - S: D700.0.5S.EI22
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-CleanGB-MTD-gb805fd3
Build Number - CleanGB-MTD-1.0.5
Hardware Version - D700.0.5
The phone has not been ringing. When I say has not been ringing I mean I am not receiving calls. This could be due to two reasons. 1. The person is either hanging up before the 5th ring(this seems to be the magic number for my phone to actually ring according to some self tests performed today). 2. My Google Voice is picking up before the 5th ring and the people are hanging up. Now I am also not receiving notifications of missed calls. My wife has ranted at me the last two days about not picking up her calls to which I reply I had no clue that there were calls to where I show her my call log and the lack of her calls. I have called Sprint and went through about 20 minutes of back and forth and a reset a couple of times then a punch in of a ## 6 digit number # and did a MSID input. The Sprint tech said that the phone was ringing on his end and when I picked up said it took a while but he did a few things and then it seemed to have sped up on his end. Now after hanging up with him proceeded to call my phone from the wifes and it still takes 5 rings for it to pick up. Is there anything I could do to fix this. Is this an issue on CleanGB. Thanks for the replies. Let me know if you need anymore information from me.
im just taking a stab here but I think I remember reading this is a GV problem and had something to do with GV settings . Like I said not sure but you might wanna start there.
That is what the Sprint guy started off saying. How would I go about fixing that? Do I need to uninstall Google Voice? Sign out of Google Voice? or what I am willing to try anything right now.
I don't use Google voice, but if it's easy enough to uninstall & install I'd try removing it and see if problem persists. At the least you can tell if it is the problem or not

Uninstalled
I have basically restored my phone back to factory. I am on EL30 now. I uninstalled google voice that way. I also went to google voice on the web and fixed my voicemail on there. My phone still wants to ring 5 times before it shows me I have a call coming through, however I also do not have any voicemail at all now. After about the 8th ring it gives me a This caller is unavailable message followed in spanish then an error 261 message. Gonna call sprint again in the AM and see if they can reset something for me.
VM app try phonefusion its what i have been using and it works great i didnt really like google voice i just need voicemail i dont need something thats going to record my calls and text messages
as far as your phone ringing i had this problem a while back and i think it had to do with a cell tower not sending the call out right or something like that anyway ask tech support how the towers are responding in your area
Thanks
I will ask them about the towers today when I call. I have to call them now I have no voicemail at all. The sprint voicemail isnt picking up anymore.
Hello fellow Nexus 5Xers,
Just got the 5X and have been getting everything up and running these last few days. Previously, I had the old Nexus 5 on AT&T and am getting things set up on the new phone, also with AT&T. My goal is to try to get Google Voice VM set up.
I went through the normal voicemail set up on the Google Voice app, but noticed that I was not getting voicemails when people called. I tried calling my number on another line and got the "This number is out of order error message". I called AT&T and got set up with a carrier VM just to make sure I had something that worked.
I went back to the Google voice settings page on the website and re-registered my phone and tried to run the code that would forward calls to my Google Voice number. When I entered the code, it says "MMI Code started" and then comes back with "Call forwarding Connection problem or invalid MMI code".
I then tried re-doing set up on the Google Voice App on Android and still no luck. Then I tried setting up a conditional forwarding in the settings menu of the Phone under "Calls>Call Forwarding" to my google voice number and I get a "Call settings error, Unexepcted response from network".
Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas on what to do to get Google Voice VM set up?
I'm getting the same exact problem and also on ATT. Can't seem to figure out what the issue is...
Works fine here just check on computer to forward calls use your at&t number
Try putting your SIM in another phone in order to issue the conditional call forwarding command, then put it back in the 5X. This is a network dependent feature which should continue to be in force until you cancel it (regardless of which phone you are using).

Thanks for the reply, TLopez. Are you using AT&T? When I go on my account page for AT&T, it says you have to enter a set of codes on the phone to set it up and can't set it up on-line.

I am in the same boat as you. As far as I can tell the problem is with the way AT&T configured the account when we swapped SIM's. (Since you went from a Nexus 5 to the 5X, I'm assuming that you had AT&T give you a new Nano-SIM to replace the Micro-SIM that was in your 5).
From what I have been able to piece together all Smart Phone Voicemail accounts being provisioned now by AT&T are setup with Visual Voicemail and that setup is not allowing the provisional forwarding that Google Voice requires to become the Voicemail provider for the number.
When I look on my 5X under Dialer App -> Menu -> Settings -> Calls -> Call Forwarding
the Settings for "When busy", "When unanswered ", & "When unavailable" are "Off", "Off", & "Disabled".
When I look at these setting on an AT&T phone that was provisioned a few years ago, those setting show the AT&T voicemail access number.
I've talked to three different CSR's on the business account line and they had no useful information.
Same issue
I am also having the same issue. I switched from Nexus 4 to Nexus 5X and it seems AT&T network is not allowing call forwarding to be enabled.
Here is what I have tried but still now fix:
1.) Uninstall and reinstall Google Voice app.
2.) Uninstall, reboot, and reinstall Goofle Voice app.
3.) Deactivate and reactivate using instructions on voice.google.com
4.) Try programming forwarding number under Call Settings menu.
5.) Talk to AT&T chat support. No luck...insist the phone is unsupported on network data protocols or some other BS.
Any information would be helpful.
I remember from the past that even if att set has errors on the phone, that it worked anyway. I have been using gv since the nexus one and it was sketchy back then. I havent' had any problems for a couple years. The new sim might F it up. But it works for me. I have been involved in many GV threads in the past. It might help to read some of those. The web interface GV is the key. It has mostly to do with the settings on your end, not att. They don't know **** all anyway.
I'm going to search and see what I can find. I have used GV and att exclusively since 2010, and It's never really failed.
To be clear, I'm using a 5x with an Att SIM, I do not have GV installed on the N5X and things work normally, both GV # and SIM associated att # both go to GV VM and Notifications come through hangouts and both numbers ring the handset.
post here for Q's about web interface. I never touched the n5x voicemail settings. on the handset. it just worked from the beginning.

But you didn't change SIMs when you moved to your 5X, correct?
That has been my experience with GV and new phones in the past. As long as the account was configured correctly on the previous phone, there was nothing that needed to be done on the new phone, since all the conditional forwarding was already setup on the network side.
yes, correct. I was just trying to say that it's possible and you don't need to call att to make it happen. Under my forwarding menu
always forward =off
when busy, unanswered, unreachable = my gv #

Yea, if I go into that menu and try to change the values it just returns an error, I am not able to change the values from "off" and "disabled". And even with those showing "off" and "disabled" AT&T's voicemail works correctly.
what about voicemail setting? I have "your carrier" not gv.

I have tried both setting, it makes no difference.
I even have had AT&T turn off VM on the network side, that didn't help at all.
At this point I'm not sure if "Conditional forwarding" is not available on newly provisioned lines or that the Nexus 5X doesn't have the tools to setup conditional forwarding.
I have a SIM adapter on order, when that comes in I will try to do the GV configuration on my old HTC M7 to see if that makes any difference. I don't really think that it will, but it sounds like a less frustrating step than calling into AT&T repeatedly until I happen across a CSR that knows how to setup conditional forwarding on the network side. (Or that knows conclusively that it is not possible on new SIM activations.)
read this page. it's something easy, it has to be. I have set up other people on gv with the same phones. Never had a problem but its in the details.
I do wish you good luck.

So yes, in this case, I can't seem to add my Google Voice number to those fields. When I go in, all fields are "off" and if I try to input my GV number for any of them, I get an error that states "Unexpected response from network"
Even if I try to input another number altogether, i.e. my home or work number, I get the same response.
I was having this same issue with my Nexus 5X using a new At&t nano sim. To resolve it, I had to call and speak with Customer Service. I explained that I wanted to setup Conditional Call Forwarding for all three conditions (busy, unreachable, unanswered) and they were able make the changes. I checked the Call Forwarding Settings screen immediately after hanging up and confirmed the correct Forwarding # was in place.

I have changed phones between iOS and Android several times, never had issues with GV until my first Nexus (which is the 5x). The MMI codes that GV gives would not work, and from the call screen, if i clicked on the (...) in the top right corner i could go to 'settings', but it still wouln't take my GV number.
I spent 2 hours with ATT, she was very very helpful and got "advanced support" to help. Eventually, ATT changed all 3 of my "conditional call forwarding" to my GV number, but it still went to my ATT voicemail. ATT lady started to conference Google in for help. I had to leave the call, but several hours later i started getting VM thru GV. I'm not sure if the conditional call forwarding numbers just needed time to activate across the network (ATT Lady said that it didn't), or if when she spoke to Google they figured something out.
Good luck everyone. The problem is resolvable with ATT help, I wish I had more details to provide.
I just called my 5X and I got my GV message for when a call is missed. I am coming from a Moto X 2014 that had GV setup as the VM and all I did was move my sim from that phone to the 5X. Not that this helps anyone with a problem, but figured I would chime in on my scenario that does work.
I was having same issue... Seems the only way to resolve is to contact Att. The CSR I spoke with on chat was very knowledgeable of this issue and resolved it in less than 5 minutes. Even still... It's an unnecessary inconvenience
I've had this issue in the past, it randomly started happening on my prior M8. Nothing worked...no MMI codes, online meetings, manual call forward numbers, nothing...I ended up getting it resolved by having ATT advanced technical support manually edit the forwarding scenarios and numbers on the back end. Even they were confused as to why it was happening, and I had to get to the second level of advanced support before the technician had the correct access rights to edit the numbers. This was back in July-ish, and they had been apparently going through some significant "non-cystomer-facing" changes to their backbend VM systems.. All GV working fine for me asof now, and I'm still using the same Nano-SIM card on my 5X that cane from that M8.
