So, I'm still waiting for the official Samsung dock with the functional 3-pins. Until then, this is my temporary solution...
Velcro Brand Removable Picture Hangers have a unidirectional hook which makes removing the phone really easy as you just slide it upwards.
The product comes with the hook side and the loop side. The loop is supposed to go on your wall (car) and the hook is supposed to go on the object you're hanging (picture frame) or in this case, the phone. If you put the hook on the phone though, it's going to catch on your pocket, your jacket, your sweater, etc., so I reversed it and put the loop in my car and the loop on the phone.
The hook can go anywhere. I just put it over my CD player because I never use it.

If you're going to put the hook in the car, make sure you reverse the directions so Velcro is now written upside down and the arrows point down also.
Loop patch on the back of the phone.

To remove, just slide it straight up. Comes right off.
I've actually been using this solution for about 2 years starting with my Droid X (instead of the official car dock) and later Droid Charge. My brother has it in his WRX, my wife has it in her Outback and I've had it in a Tacoma and most currently, a 328xi.

Thanks. Out of curiosity, what kind of car do you have? All you need is a few inches of flat real estate somewhere on the dash within your arms reach.
So does this leave sticky residue on the back of my phone? So everytime I take my phone off and want to make a call everyone will see a huge sticky pad?
Nope, removable silicone adhesive. Won't damage painted drywall either.
not bad at all... I need to figure out something, I'm really shocked that they were able to build such a beautiful phone but can't release a decent dock for either desk or vehicle that easily allows us to charge our phone and plug in a audio cable... They need to get it together and provide some accessories so i can give them more of my money!

I am trying to find a relatively simple and cheap method to build what could be considered a night stand for my phone, and I am fairly confident that I am not the only one. Is anybody out there looking for ways to build such a device (even in passing)?
A member of the t-mobile forum recently ordered a stand from www.ezestand.com, which they are going to test out. The website mentions that the stand is not compatible with the droid incredible in horizontal mode, though. That seems like an issue that could plague the mytouch as well.
Another option I have been looking at a bit would be to use a business card stand. Something along the lines of the following stand could work...

Because the ends are open, the width of the phone would not be an issue. There is also a small base under the stand, and depending on what it is made out of, one could conceivably run a wire under the stand and cut a hole for the micro usb plug. It would be best to use a right angle micro USB, though.
Simple, cheap, and compatible with any phone.

While that is very neat, I don't like the idea of having something permanently on my bedside table that looks like garbage.
For what it's worth, I stopped by office max and they had that exact business card holder that I linked to in stock. It was cheaper there (about 6 bucks), and the bottom is made of a solid piece of some kind of particle board (as opposed to hollow plastic). That makes it a bit trickier, but I can imagine how a right angle micro usb plug could be worked in through the back piece of metal and a little shelf could be put in the bottom to hold the bottom of the phone up.
so i have been thinking of doing a car dock for the mytouch 4g, since I successfully modded the oem desk dock to use the three pins on the side..
well, I have a alpine blackbird navigation I bought awhile back and it had the car dock for it and I was thinking may be I can do something with this since I hardly use or I lost/broke the blackbird...

Interesting idea. From the video I have seen of the official dock (primarily yours), it seems like it is quite a snug fit. I am not sure how you will be able to recreate that, but I bet that dock would work fantastically.

I have been thinking of doing something like this myself as well... I even drew up some quick ideas and made a cardboard prototype...I tried to design it where the angle may be adjusted....idk..

i had a thought about this also. what if we found a case that fit the phone and cut it down to spec, mounted it, then wired it up. i was even thinking about using the case to mold some others so i could make multiple ones that i might like

I doubt they would have anything for the Galaxy Phones since the Jack and USB connection in that case is normally on the TOP of the phone (like the Captivate)
You'd have better luck modding and building your own. Considering the phone doesn't do upside down portrait at all oddly. I doubt it would be nearly anything like the iPod style docks since Apple did have the brilliance (the few times I do give them a compliment) of putting their major connector on the bottom of their mobile and portable products.
Although should such a product exist, I would be interested in seeing such thing maybe even purchasing one.

Mine does upside-down portrait just fine. (Though I think I'm quoting the wrong post, since I don't see the upside-down statement in your post.) (Nevermind, I see it now. Good, I am quoting the right person.) You have to go in display settings and enable 180-degree rotation or something like that. Some roms don't have that option, though so YMMV.
Samsung has done some good horizontal desk docks for it (once you register your captivate with samsung, it shows you a crapload of nice accessories) so it probably wouldn't be too hard to make one.
Easiest design would be to buy one of the horizontal desk docks, a small 3.5mm speaker set from Radio Shack, and drill a small hole in the dock to plug them in, then attach the speakers to the dock.
Could be done for under $50 if you use the Samsung official dock, way less if you use one from ebay or amazon.
Get the kind that is just an empty drawer and a headphone cord. Phone's right side up and you've got speakers.

I can only think of attaching the strap to one of the silver screws next to one of the speakers below the back cover and leading it out via the speaker openning on the side... This would require a special screw to reliably hold the strap... Any ideas?

There is a hook under the back, where u lift back off, just hook it around the tab and pull it tight, then put the back on again be careful tho, i miss placed it a couple times and it fell off, lol.
Tad worried about Laniards because of how easy it is to snap off the back cover.
There is a lip around the gray tab that the laniard pulls tight under, so even with the back off it does come off, the back cover just holds it down slightly more.
I havent had any problems with mine, and i hang it around my neck, lol, only time i had a problem was when i didnt put it around the gray tab properly in the first place, lol.
Very happy the hook exists - still have not been to computer to thank you for the post and clear pictures - without them I would not understand how it works. On holiday now but managed to put the strap from nintendo ds to xplay. The only way it worked was sliding loop over the hook, pooling on the ends of the string till it was properly in grooves. Then while still pooling the strap as otherwise it slides out put the back on after which the strap seems to stay in place securely I hope. Thanks again

It was something i wanted to do, but cos i had my hard cover on my phone i never got round to doing it. The i thought with a bit of modification i could use the hard case AND the laniard, so i just cut a little section out of the case and it works a treat!!
As I couldn't slide the loop twice into the slot provided I think the best thing is to create a slip knot first by turning one extra loop and pooling the end of the original loop through it before attaching it to the phone then sliding the knot as far as possible to the middle. Once it is done it makes it less possible for the loop to go off the grooves which was possible without the extra slip knot if you pushed the loop in and then let the phone go.

So I recently got myself a 2004 Nissan Maxima.
This is what the centre console looks like stock
Anyways, when I bought the Nexus 7 I placed in front of the screen and it was a perfect fit. I decided to open it all up and move the screen to a lower position. (I lost one of those map pockets but whatever). Sidenote: on the left side of the picture under the steering column I tucked away an Avantree bluetooth module. Helped me retrofit the car with bluetooth audio so no wires
After all that I was left with this:
So i decided to install my N4 qi wireless charger in there. It's pretty ghetto really, I bought some cardboard, some felt and a pvc pipe for support taped it all together and:
Gave it power by soldering a micro usb cable down the back. Placed it in the huge space while resting the end of the pvc pipe onto an inner lip:
Best part is, my N4 fits nicely as well and because of the rubber lip I created to help the N7 slide in, it isn't free to move around.
When I took these pictures the soldering wasn't done which is why they aren't charging in the photos.
Anyways, thought I'd share, hope you guys liked it! Also sorry if this was more of a mod than an accessory but still

Question though, how are you running Navigation with the Nexus 7? Are you tethering your phone to it? Or is it LTE?
There are lots of offline gps apps (navigon, sygic,...). And you can update the maps over wifi since the n7 is removable from his build carboard. No traffic informations I guess, but that's fine with me.
Very nice though. I wanted to do a thing like that but there are too many modifications to do on my '96 Peugeot 106^^
Maybe with a new car in a few years.

It's always refreshing when a company releases an accessory that can be used with anything, aka "universal", instead of marketing directly to iPod/iPad/iPhone/iPood devices. Standzout is one of them, even though they do have products marketed directly to those other devices. Even though I was not able to attend CES 2014 due to some conflicts, I was able to get a hold of one of their Standzfree Universal Tablet Floor Stands to check out.
Seeing as I spend an awful lot of time working from home and my desk is never clean enough to put more than my keyboard, phone, mouse and monitors, a tablet floor stand is perfect! And, seeing as I occasionally do stints as a guitar player a stand for my tablet while playing is essential. So I went about setting this sucker up.
First thing I noticed was how purely heavy it is. Most of that is the floor base stand itself - requiring more than just myself to attach the base. Luckily I had a minion around (who oddly enough looks like me) to help steady the base while I screw in the screw with the provided allen wrench. Once it was nice and tight it was quite evident that this stand isn't going to move around any.
After using the stand with my tablets at my desk for a few weeks, I found it to be just like having another monitor. I was able to adjust it to the right height given that it has a telescoping neck which gives it about another foot in length (TWHS), so I could sit at my desk, turn to the side and immediately have it right there. And in fact it holds my Samsung Note Pro 12.2 quite well. It was time to take it to a gig.
It was there I noticed immediately what could keep me from using this outside the office. Whenever I needed to turn a page on the setlist, the thing moved. It wasn't that the base itself moved (which it does if you push too hard on the tablet), it was that with a tablet in the holder it's easy to move it because it's up in the air. Not even sure how to avoid it - but i have the same problem in the car with a suction cup phone mount. It's like the tablet just floats and moves easily on the stand.
Outside of that, I am impressed with the stand but will only use it at my desk or maybe by the bed at night. If you're interested in one, you can head on over to their site to read about it and purchase one if you so choose.
