Okay so I just installed the EL26 Rogue stock kernel and I feel like my phone just got sooo much smoother. Scrolling is like buttah! Coming from Rogue EL13, btw.
+1
Loving it!
no lie, still on EG30 mainly because love the scroll bounce, was rocking it with desperado OC to 200/1400, but this EL26 Rogue beats it how silky smooth it is.
as bonus VPNC Widget still works, see /dev/net/tun when connected with EL26 Rogue, hadn't expected this, thanks!!!
Great to hear. Still on the EG30 ROM, reading and doing more reading before I take the dive into EL26. But the positive reports are very encouraging!

Glad to hear this. Still holding out because some themes don't support EL26 yet.
Any noticeable difference in battery life on EL26?

I've never had large differences in battery life when on any modem or kernel with any custom ROM. To me it's all dependent on how your phone is set up and how much you use it. As long as I can make it through the day without having to charge up, I'm good. If it lasts longer than 24 hours, that's just extra benefits.
With stock ROM, my battery only lasted maybe 7-8 hours. On any custom ROM I've ran, it's usually well past that.
I'm on the Nothing but the honey theme, and that's been my fave theme out of the ones I've tried. I know for certain that one is working without issues on EL26 with Calk's rom.
I wasn't seeing smooth scroll performance with EL26 on UnNamed EL13 rom base touchwiz use.
Went back to EL13 all is perfect again.

Decad3nce of OG Epic Cyanogenmod fame explained to me how having a matching system is best due to intents and some other things that were over my head..lol. I always keep my ROM/modem/kernel matching but that's just me

What's the best gingerbread rom for stability and battery life? I feel like most of the EG22 roms are too early in development for daily use, would an EF02 rom be better?

Agreed. Even with the rare reboot stock EG22 is smoother and has better battery life than any Froyo ROM. I'm looking forward to the next leak this weekend.

I honestly don't even see a performance increase with non-stock kernels.
I really wish we had a fully functional CM7 though.
As I stated in the other two threads, I am running Random Rom Osprey and it has been nearly flawless. It does have a RAM leak that causes the phone to reboot every once in awhile, so I recommend journaling on, but very smooth, there is no rotation lag. And GPS works.
I've tried midNight 6 - EE03, Bamboozle 1.1 EF02, Go Green EG22 and now RandomROM Osprey
to be honest the one i've thought had the best bang was/is bamboozle w/journaling on ... its WAY fast and the theme marcus did is really nice.
I like this RandomROM a lot, I left bamboozle to see if it was the EF02 rom that was causing the cell stand by eating the battery, it isn't. EG22 does it just as much.
RandomROM is good and has a really nice theme, it isn't quite as fast as Bamboozle.
go Green was fast, though the theme was still being tweaked. Which made it a bit hard to use at times. I'm sure once the theme is done it'll rock. for some reason no theme I tried to flash over it would work. most likely operator error.
I might jump back to bamboozle until GB release, hope in a few weeks. it is just crazy fast. I am interested to see what Random has been cooking up for his next update. Nice to have options !!
These Devs ROCK !!!
I see better battery life with Random then I did with Bamboozle. Random seems to run TW4.5 better too. I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but I think I would give the themeing nod to Bamboozle. I just like the fact that Random is EG22.

Right now using caulkin 1.5a and stock kernel 1.1. No Los but battery drops so quickly it seems.
Caulkin 1.5a Bare Rom and Rogue Renegade kernel is giving me awesome battery life.
Stock kernel no Los and best bar life but rogue outlaw comes close.

This for me. Just make sure to calibrate.
Calkulin's and StarBurst are both nice ROMs, but StarBurst has been the most stable with best battery life for me.
Funny, this combination drained my battery quickly until I replaced Rogue with stock--now battery life is great. Rogue had worked fine before the most recent Calkulin update. If you have problems I think you need to try the available options or reflash.
Before switching to a different ROM or Kernel, I always go back to stock to make sure I have a clean starting point. This is so easy now this is available > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351761
I am not saying this will solve every issue but its worked well for me. There really is no reason why a certain config should work fine on one device but not another.

I love starburst but battery life winner goes to Calks rom. V1.5a can last me all day with 50% left.

that is now incorporated into my flashing routine as well. Takes about an additional 15 minutes but well worth it in my eyes.

Yeah caulk use to be awesome. Now I'm getting bad battery drain. About 3% since turning my screen on navigating to this Page and replying back.
Going to flash stock tonight and reflash.
I can easily get a full day of heavy use when off charger with calk's rom. Which is nice to know. I might just pick up another battery to have just in case but coming from the Evo this phone is light years ahead with battery. I suggest flashing stock tar and pit file as part of your "wiping" routine.

Yeah I use to also but last two days its been relatively bad. Definitely flashing stock.
What about this one on battery life as well as signal extra...
EpicAOSPmodv2.5.1
I UV the cpu and GPU on stock EG31 kernel
after flashing starburst 1.9.5 battery life was great but then getting worse
I had great battery life after flashing starburst ROM 1.9.5 and calibrating, but after a couple of weeks battery life has become 50% worse. What could be the cause of something like this when my settings haven't been changed?
running lostKernelExp+
i installed badass battery monitor and it appears that the application "kernel" is responsible for 30% of my battery life. when battery monitor shows "kernel" is it referring to lostKernelExp+?
After flashing the rogue ek02 kernel i ran some quadrant benchmarks and was getting lower than usual scores, i then flashed Chris acs5 ek02 stock kernel and my scores were back to normal. i prefer the rogue kernel because of the bootanimation support but why is it slower?
Because benchmarks are CRAP You know how I benchmark my devices? On stability, choppy scrolling (or lack of), game play, voice/sms-mms, and various other things. Those benchmark apps are not reliable one bit! Though it is still fun to show my scores to all the Evo 3D owners out there, if there are any left, LOL.
joking about the 3d, i am in fact watching ebay to purchase another one. i sold my 3d to buy this device at launch, now i am sort of missing the 3d. i will not ditch the epic touch for it, just would be nice to have both!

I went through the same over Calk's / StrongSteve / Blazer ROM, I prefer the Rogue kernel with its Recovery mod. The bench mark shows significant difference between those two kernels with the same CPU clock. The performance is a "subjective" thing, with my limited time of using those two, I do feel that with Chris's Kernel, it is smoother when moving between pages.
Currently, I am on StrongSteve 12/8 ROM with Rogue 1.3. Let me clarify my comments: all those ROMs/ Kernels are great, I felt blessing to have so many good options. It would be nice to know the theory behind the benchmark.

Same ROM but with Chris's kernel. Its more about finding what suits your needs best. The new Rogue is default on "Lazy" governor and stock is "on demand." It can be easily changed in SetCPU or similar app. The new Rouge has lots of flexibility so lots of adjusting can be done

Have you tried out Chris's kernel W/ACS recovery? It includes pre ROM wipe options and pre theme wipe options also. I have tried both and can attest much smoother performance from Chris41g's kernel. So if it is just the recovery you are interested in give ACS recovery a try.

ACS about broke my phone. I could get into the recovery but could not choose any options then it wouldn't get back into the rom I had to ODIN flash a new kernel with the rogue recovery to get back into the phone. I thought I bricked it for awhile.
Calkulin vs Phantomhacker
Calkulin 2.5 vs Blazer 2.0
which has the better performance/battery life?
I am currently on calkulin 2.5 with the el13 modem. But I like how blazer looks like ics. I have used older blazer roms and they were ok. But im looking for others opinions. Thanks =)

I used Calkulin 2.5 for a day, i just switched to unnamed 2.0.1 and I'm LOVING the set up, seems to be a hair smoother i noticed and very responsive. I could be wrong but it also seems to just have better battery life in general. I'm just using Rogues Kernel for EL13.
I think i might try desperado tho, every says its really good and result in amazing bat life.
So your "setup" will be "UnNamed" ROM, EL13 Modem, and the Desperado kernal?
i was going to make a thread like this for el13 Im curious too im running calks 2.5 never tried blazer or unnamed this is my first rom
i want something that has good battery life without sacrificing speed and performance
I haven't tried unnamed, but between blazer and calk's, both have outstanding battery life. I'm coming from an OG evo so I'm easily impressed with not having a 10% drop after browsing through xda for 10 minutes... In all seriousness though, I go all day with moderate to heavy data usage (mostly wifi) and have at least 40% left before I crash and plug it in. I couldn't really tell a difference between the two- both are fantastic in my opinion.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Been running Calk's 2.0.1a for a week on Rogue 1.30 and with heavy workday use it goes from morning to evening and still left with 25% - 30% left after 10-11 hours.
On weekend use with WiFi it goes a day + easily.
My old EVO 4G would be lucky to get half that battery life. The Galaxy SII really is a major improvement in battery.
They say the S3 will be even better for battery, but be thinner with a high res AMOLED+ screen.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I'm not feeling the EL13 leak....just doesn't seem as smooth and fast. Even Calkulin's release. I've been running all his roms, but the latest, meh... On 2.0.1a right now and loving it.

My first full day on calkulin's 2.5 rom and I love it! Battery life is great, I've got 10hr on battery and 53% left.
i ran calks 2.5 for a couple of days..it was ok but no where near as responsive as blazer which i put in yesterday and as for battery life I cant say anything since i just put it in
UnNamed, EL13, Rogue. My battery life so far is pretty darn good with active use of txting and listning to music, unless i crack out GTAIII for a couple of hours......
I'm thinking about flashing a ROM to my currently stock rooted Epic 4G Touch, I am right now considering UnNamed and Blazer Rom, any suggestions? I am a user that needs a lot of battery life as I always do not have access to a power source. Thanks!
You'll really have to try them out. Different people get different results with different ROMs.

Well to be honest the two best for battery seem to be Calkulin's from and StrongSteve's rom. Calkulin has a battery saver script. I'm currently using strongsteve's rom and I get really good battery life even though I give it super heavy usage and over clock. You should try both and under clock them along with undervolting.

^^^Best statement ever right there ^^^^ Also you can use Calkulins battery script on just about all the stock rom derivatives. I use it on UnNamed.
I agree with the why ask a group of people who will all say different things rather than you do it yourself. Especially since we all use phones differently and all have different apps installed which effect battery life.
If you don't mind the blue, I would highly recommend Strongsteve's ROM. I'm not even a fan of the blue so keep trying different ROM's and going back to his ROM cuz it is just so smooth.
