What rom and kernel for best battery - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Right now using caulkin 1.5a and stock kernel 1.1. No Los but battery drops so quickly it seems.

Caulkin 1.5a Bare Rom and Rogue Renegade kernel is giving me awesome battery life.

Stock kernel no Los and best bar life but rogue outlaw comes close.

This for me. Just make sure to calibrate.

Calkulin's and StarBurst are both nice ROMs, but StarBurst has been the most stable with best battery life for me.

Funny, this combination drained my battery quickly until I replaced Rogue with stock--now battery life is great. Rogue had worked fine before the most recent Calkulin update. If you have problems I think you need to try the available options or reflash.

Before switching to a different ROM or Kernel, I always go back to stock to make sure I have a clean starting point. This is so easy now this is available > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351761
I am not saying this will solve every issue but its worked well for me. There really is no reason why a certain config should work fine on one device but not another.

Agreed.
Sent from the future.

I love starburst but battery life winner goes to Calks rom. V1.5a can last me all day with 50% left.

that is now incorporated into my flashing routine as well. Takes about an additional 15 minutes but well worth it in my eyes.

Yeah caulk use to be awesome. Now I'm getting bad battery drain. About 3% since turning my screen on navigating to this Page and replying back.
Going to flash stock tonight and reflash.

I can easily get a full day of heavy use when off charger with calk's rom. Which is nice to know. I might just pick up another battery to have just in case but coming from the Evo this phone is light years ahead with battery. I suggest flashing stock tar and pit file as part of your "wiping" routine.

Yeah I use to also but last two days its been relatively bad. Definitely flashing stock.

What about this one on battery life as well as signal extra...
EpicAOSPmodv2.5.1

I UV the cpu and GPU on stock EG31 kernel

after flashing starburst 1.9.5 battery life was great but then getting worse
I had great battery life after flashing starburst ROM 1.9.5 and calibrating, but after a couple of weeks battery life has become 50% worse. What could be the cause of something like this when my settings haven't been changed?
running lostKernelExp+
i installed badass battery monitor and it appears that the application "kernel" is responsible for 30% of my battery life. when battery monitor shows "kernel" is it referring to lostKernelExp+?

Kernel suggestions?

Here is the situation, I appreciate any feedback. I'm running Remptive Revolution with the Distinction 1.49 theme on it, I flashed over to one of ziggy's kernels not too long ago and it seems like it rips my battery up. I usually have it around 1.15 on demand in SetCPU with profiles set to 384max when screen off, and 768 max when below 50% and 691 below 30%. It seems like the original ROM kernel was wicked fast but I didn't get a good chance to test out the battery life. I've tried a few different kernels and I'm considering going back to one of the Hydra kernels, I feel like they haven't done me wrong. I'm just looking for a good solid kernel that will give me solid battery and good performance, I know I won't get the best of both worlds, but I'd prefer good battery life. Also, pro/cons/purpose of wiping battery stats? I can't seem to find any info about it.
I really like chads kernels. His newest one an oc to 1.113 and is faster then any other kernel ive ever used with really good battery life. (ive only tested the battery life at stock speeds.) And the purpose of wiping battery stats is to let your phone recalibrate the battery so basically you can get the best battery life. ( i believe at least)

Installing now. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have an update later on and we'll see where we stand.
The reason I'm hesitant to use KingKlicks is because of a constant bootloop I ran into. And Ziggy was just cool, got some really good quadrant scores on it, but it just ran through battery like nothing. Anyway, thanks again! I'm excited!
I've been using Heyitslou new kernel and battery life is the best since I've owned this phone. I'm also using his Redemptive Revolution ROM.

If you use aosp roms then I would go with invisiblek #17. It's the best that I've found thus far.

Best kernel i have used by far for cm6
I wiped battery stats a few days ago in recovery, and literally every app on my phone started force closing. I had to restore from a backup, and when I did, every app acted like it was the first time I ever loaded it. Had to set up EVERYTHING again. Do as you will, but the ONLY thing I did to cause that garbage was wipe my battery stats. I'd love better battery life too, but I think the software should be capable of relearning your power cycle of a battery if you replace the battery. Can't stay one way forever.. or at least it shouldn't.
does anyone know where I can download KXK #3 or one of his other kernels? I have tried to find them on this site and the ROM manager. Even google's top results are just sending me to theads about the kernels but none have links to the kernel itself. I am going to try using it to get my battery life extended since I really don't mess with my DINC much besides angry birds (addict for life).
Thanks,
JrdnThms
There is a kernel thread floating around here somewhere it has them. I'm on my phone so I can't link but its called the official kernel thread I believe

[Q] Kernel for Miui

I just flashed the updated Miui ROM onto my friends Incredible (I am improving it for him) and was wondering which kernel would work best with it. I have heard that Tiamat is one to consider, but I don't know if it works the best with Miui.
Thanks in advance!!!!!
Tiamat is great, but I've been really happy with the included kernel. YMMV

Oh that's right, there is a kernel included with Miui. lol Forgot about that. Does it install automatically when you install Miui, or is there something separate you have to do? I am a Miui noob and just want to make sure I do everything right. And has it improved battery life? That's why I am asking about the kernels.
Guess I'll keep Tiamat on the back burner for now.
Thanks for the response.

No problem! Yeah, it installs along with MIUI. Give it a few days, I think your friend will like it. I'm running it underclocked to 800MHz on the stock kernel and it's smooth as butter
I flashed chads incredikernal. One thing I don't like about the stock kernel is the charge speed. I am currently at 11 hours 19 minutes with 36% remaining on stock Inc battery. I don't mess with any settings, I let it do it's thing.

Well, if you charge overnight, then that really isn't that big an issue. But I will definitely put that on my list of kernels to try if my friend isn't satisfied with the Miui one.
Thanks!
I've tried Chad's incredikernel and it was awful. Been using Tiamat for the past couple days. I'm gonna be going back to the included stock kernel that came with MIUI tomorrow. I've gotten the best battery life out of that one. I think it'd be worth it to try out each kernel on your own phone for a couple days. Some kernels may work better on certain phones than others.

Interesting. I will definitely try them at one point to see for myself, but it seems that the stock Miui kernel is the way to go. I've been playing with it for 2 days now, and I have seen a noticeable increase in the battery life. I am very pleased.
Thanks for the response.
I always flash Chad's Incredikernal after the MIUI update, but this time I'm test driving the (MIUI) stock kernal to see how battery life really compares after a couple of days. You really can't go wrong either way. But, as posted above, YMMV. Good luck!
Incredikernel #1 with IncrediControl app http://www.incredikernel.com/
I try Tiamat every release but always go back to Incredikernel, Incredikernel is so much smoother. Also better benchmark with all apps and no task kill. Pics for proof!!!!
SetCPU min128/998max @ smartass scaling
Also if you are playing with kernels and want to go back to MIUI stock it is the Official CM7.0 version1. Can be downloaded from kernel manager lite(free) in market. Invisiblek version4 is nice to, its based off CM7.1 version2 with smartass added.
Remember when trying new kernels for best results.. Charge until green, then boot into recovery, then advanced and wipe battery stats, then power off and let charge until green and good to go. This gets the results without waiting 3 or 4 days of charging. Also you wont see the unplug and go from 100% to 83% in 15 minutes.
every phone is different. I have been trying to use incredikernel for months and my phone runs like complete garbage with it. I use tiamat and it blows incredikernel out of the water on my dinc. I have no explanation for this and am hoping one day my phone will accept incredikernel. :-(

Actually, to recalibrate, this is what I'd recommend.
Charge the phone to 100%
Turn it off. The LED will turn red again, wait for it to turn back to green.
Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
Reboot, then unplug.

EL26 Kernel = Butter

Okay so I just installed the EL26 Rogue stock kernel and I feel like my phone just got sooo much smoother. Scrolling is like buttah! Coming from Rogue EL13, btw.

Loving it!
no lie, still on EG30 mainly because love the scroll bounce, was rocking it with desperado OC to 200/1400, but this EL26 Rogue beats it how silky smooth it is.
as bonus VPNC Widget still works, see /dev/net/tun when connected with EL26 Rogue, hadn't expected this, thanks!!!
Great to hear. Still on the EG30 ROM, reading and doing more reading before I take the dive into EL26. But the positive reports are very encouraging!

I've never had large differences in battery life when on any modem or kernel with any custom ROM. To me it's all dependent on how your phone is set up and how much you use it. As long as I can make it through the day without having to charge up, I'm good. If it lasts longer than 24 hours, that's just extra benefits.
With stock ROM, my battery only lasted maybe 7-8 hours. On any custom ROM I've ran, it's usually well past that.
I'm on the Nothing but the honey theme, and that's been my fave theme out of the ones I've tried. I know for certain that one is working without issues on EL26 with Calk's rom.
I wasn't seeing smooth scroll performance with EL26 on UnNamed EL13 rom base touchwiz use.
Went back to EL13 all is perfect again.

Best ROM ever for battery life?

I need to get more battery life out of my Inc. What ROM gave the best battery life? Froyo, GB or ICS. I will flash any one that gives me the most time to use it.

Using froyo sense 1.0 roms... with Lou's #8 kernel, that was my most battery efficient rom-kernel combination.
I run vanilla(GB)/incredikernel now, and with a lot more of customization, I am close-but-not-quite as efficient as froyo sense/Lou's #8.

Right now I'm on hour 20 of my battery and still at 70% on GB Inc-Deck with 11/03 incredikernel. Granted its been light use but i did have a 30 minute phone call with the gf in there.
Also Stock+ had the best sense rom battery life ive seen.
Just make sure you can use SmartassV2/InteractiveX/Intellidemand with your kernel. helped me out a lot
Edit: The froyo incredikernel with Skyraider was pretty slick too but i havent used that combo in months

The other day I went through 5 different roms including yours, that's not the 2 I went through on my transformer... I'm cooling down the flashaholism.
But you probably know by now that a good flash cycle is gonna kill about 10% of battery at a time. Try dropping your screen brightness down to 15% i did that and finally got it to be <50% of where my battery was going.

ICS & battery

Is anyone else experiencing major battery drain on the latest leak of ICS? If so, what have you done to improve battery life? All I know is battery life was great on GB, and this is with heavy use, but now its really bad. I need to have my charger with me at work because it dies in about 5 hours.
Also, I noticed Facebook will not allow me to post status updates in native app, but if I have a widget, I can post from the widget with no problems. Is there a fix for this, or do I just have to wait for Facebook to be ICS compatible?
Thanks in advance.

Are you running a stock FD02 with stock kernel? Battery life seems the same as FC24 and better than FC22. It is a bit worse than GB but its not really done yet so I cant complain.
A long time ago I found facebook app to be a huge battery killer. This was on another phone and 2.2 so maybe its improved since then but I doubt it. Quite frankly if you can live without facebook all together your quality of life will improve.
does the rouge fc22 kernel gives a better battery life? im tempted to flash it and see how it works? anybody has tried it. Im on calks 1.4 rom

Modems are phone-dependent. Someone may have great speed on FC22 but someone else may not even have 3g on the same modem. You have to test yourself. I get best battery on EL29, but with my last E4GT I got better on EL26.
I have tried a few ics roms and battery life was worse than gb on most and i think that is expected. Ive been rumming venum's AnaKonda rom and i am currently at 37% after 16 hours of medium use.
Edit: fc24 modem and dazednconfused theme.
