[Q] Sprint LTE? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know you can switch your twoers to roam on other companies, but can you somehow switch to other 4g towers? or is that not built into our system?

Umm no, since 4g obviously goes through sprint, an unactivated phone wont connect to the network.

There are two types of 4g networks in the US right now, Wimax and LTE. Sprint is the only carrier using wimax right now, even though they aren't expanding due to the switch to the better LTE.
Thanks for the info

No probably not as there are no roaming agreements on 4g sprint was talking with big red but probably will never happen as different freq and VZW don't want to anyways they would have to be forced by FCC

I noticed att also has 4g not lte but just 4g in my area, would be awesome to hook up to it
I could be wrong but I think our phone will not have a Sim card either which will probably not allow hooking up to the att version...somewhere it said Sim less lte about our version of nexus

Epic 4g Touch on Boost Mobile Flash PRL to roam on Verizon?

I am not getting signal on my Epic 4g Touch flashed to Boost Mobile at all in my apartment unless I go outside. Was wondering what PRL I could flash to roam on verizon, or another carrier. If this can be successfully done. I am running CyanogenMod 9.
Boost is sprint only. No roaming allowed.

I would be careful.... Test it near the end of your billing period in case it works. You may find yourself having to pay for roaming data and voice, so you will want to know quick!

How to turn off 4G

I see that my 4G is on, but can't figure out how to turn it off as I don't have 4G service in the area. Anybody know how to turn this off? Also, stupid question, but is this phone able to connect to 4G and 4G LTE, or just 4G LTE?

You have to go into the mobile networks under settings to shut off lte. The only 4g is lte, wimax does not function on this phone.

Thanks! So regular 4G is the same as WiMax? Sorry, I just upgraded from the S1 (Epic) with just 4G.
Wimax was going to be 4G but sprint trashed that idea and switched to LTE/4G.. but the 4G on S3 is LTE not Wimax.

how turn of 4g

how do you guys turn off 4g
Both the battery working so good and long I would ask you this:
Why?

4G and 3G are not actually different for Tmobile.
Wikipedia article on Evolved HSPA
So then, the question is how to turn off DC hspa. Which is probably not accessible through the maintenance menus.
But for many real world value metrics I don't know what you would gain.
Get the app called phone info

I think there's an app for that. I forgot what its called but I think the toggles are Edge or HSPA+ umts only

I'm wondering if the OP came from Sprint? Sprint's 4G was a separate (battery sucking) radio that you could turn on and off and needed to in order to protect the battery usage.
4g on TMo isn't like LTE, it's not a separate modem to turn off like AT&T, VZW, or sprint. It's really a hopped up version of 3G. Your choices are 3G/4G or Edge.

On T-Mobile, there is no real differentiation between 3G and 4G. Both operate on the same spectrum. The only difference is the speeds. However, that is controlled, not by your phone, but by the tower you're connected to. It's easier to look at it as the same exact technology. For the purpose of this conversation, there is no more T-Mobile 3G. It's all 4G, or HSPA+, service now. The 3G brand has been retired in favor of the 4G moniker.
To put it all simply, 3G is the same as 4G on T-Mobile. To turn off 4G, you would drop down to 2G, or EDGE/GPRS, service.

And if you still want to do it.....go to settings - more settings - mobile networks - network mode and you can select "GSM only".
Strangely enough....there are a couple areas around where i live that my phone will show a 4G connection and absolutely refuses to open anything. I've found that if i switch to the "GSM only" option in those areas that at least i can get it working... slowly, but better than nothing.
Had the same issue with my previous phone. (G2) weird phantom 4G zone. :-/
