My mother has a newer evo, while mine is a bit old. Hers is completely stock and I'm running miui. Both of her cameras are drastically better than mine. I've also noticed that the colors on the older evos screen is a lot richer than the new evos.
Is miui the reason why my cameras worse or is it a hardware difference?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Miui is the reason as it doesn't support 720p like sense roms.
They used two different types of screens on the evos, Epson and novatec I believe and the novas seem brighter but the epsons blacks seemed blacker.

I don't know if its sprint lovers Rom or all of them but I had to swap my phones through insurance. So the new one has a novatek screen and the other one has a Epson. The Epson was rooted and the nova was right out the box stock. The nova was much more vibrant and the Epson looked dull in comparison. Then I rooted the nova and unrooted the Epson to send it back. I put them side by side again and this time the nova was very dull and the Epson had become more vibrant then it was when it was running Sprint lovers. So I'm wondering if its this Rom that is causing the screen to dull down or is it just rooting the phone in general and is there a fix
how do you know if you have a nova or epson screen?

Boot into hboot, it's written somewhere there.

Simple way is to take the power control widget and click the brightness tab of it. If it fades to the next level of brightness then its nova, kind of like slowly dimming the lights with a knob. if it just changes without any fading in or out then its a epson

I had the same thing...I got a new phone from insurance...came with Epson ...and looked way better than the Nova...then I rooted the new phone with the Epson and it didn't seem so vibrant after flashing cm7

Have you checked your screen brightness settings? Different roms my have a different default setting to help battery life. This is just a suggestion.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Indeed I have...its definitely a difference in how vibrant the picture is
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i dont think it has to do with brightness. They are set on default brightness to begin with but the colors seem to have a dulling effect. they dont look as sharp as they would before even if the brightness was all the way up. Like the whites become more bland and not a pure white. the blacks are soft and not as dark as they once were

... the two companys that makes evo screens are audiovox and sharp...
also it's easy to tell, the audiovox has a this cable and sharp a wide cable for the digitizer.
Edit: the LCD not the digitizer.
did u buy those screens off ebay or something? i just know they come from the factory with epson or nova unless there sub brands of those companys.
No, I work for a sprint service and.repair center, and those came directly from the phone manufacturer
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
All evos come stock with Epson screens in hardware 004 previous to this it was Epson or Nova
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ware are you getting your info... The two screens have always been made by audiovox and sharp... The picture of the parts directly from HTC are right there.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Really tho... ware are you getting that info?

Maybe they switched the LCD screen providers recently, but if you google for novatec vs epson...you'll find many comparisons discussing the screen differences in hw revision 002/003/004 that have these screens. This is a known fact throughout the community dating to last year's EVO release.
On topic of screen dullness, I'm on CM7 and everything looks fine to me. Provide some pics if this is the case. The devs do a great job providing us with custom roms, but if you're more interested in the "clarity"...stick with HTC/Sprint stock rom.
Well the parts for repairs have ALWAYS been sharp and audiovox

Without a doubt! I have an inc 1 which I just forward the number to my work phone (inc 2) and use the inc 1 as a dev phone.
Major upgrade in my opinion - speed, screen size, battery (with a good kernel), global capable, etc.
My dinc is an amoled screen... So the lcd of the dinc2 if actually better?

Yes everything is sharper and more crisp, the amoled screen makes everything look cartoony IMO. The LCD looks more professional, the screen itself is the perfect size, battery life is insane, and overall the Inc two is built way better than the first. The only thing I don't like is that the speaker volume is way lower than the og dinc.

It's a Super LCD screen, has more RAM than the inc 1, more room for the ROM. Faster processor and better GPU, and a bigger screen.
All around I'd say it's a much improved upgrade
Amazing phone, screen is nice, camera is pretty good, the phone is pretty fast, and as long as you tweak some settings your battery life will be awesome too. No root for it yet tho.

God damit.. yea I meant for GB phones. My bad. The only way to root a phone with GB is with an XTC Clip.
I think this is a question many of us have after the SGSII overseas problem.
Well for those of you that have it, and those getting it soon, how's your screen? Notice any bluish/yellowish tint?
I plan on getting one tomorrow, but this is the one possible problem that im worried about.

I've had 2 AMOLED screens so far, Moment and NS4G... I think we need to be honest here. This is not a reference screen. The colors and saturation levels and black point are all tweaked to death...and that will look sugary sweet and awesome for nearly everything. It's a phone not a production studio monitor. But, white's not being perfectly white is something that shouldn't be unexpected...and I would be shocked if you'd ever notice it ever again (without some boring TFT to compared it directly next to....and the TFT would look washed out and purple/blueish/yellowish)......
I mean, failures happen...if your screen looks like complete **** do something about it, but, compared to your typical ****ty LCD or your above-average professional grade reference monitor it will no match up at all... it's sweetened up to look good...color bias will happen and should be expected in comparison to just about anything.
Don't except a turd but don't drive yourself crazy looking for perfection--it doesn't exist and it isn't the point either.
I'm no perfectionist. Just check out the screen issue thread over in the SGS2 forum. Hey had multiple issues like yellowish tint on one side but not the other, bluish tint, lines, etc. Just curious if this will be as bad here as it was there

JUST DID FULL BRIGHTNESS ON BROWSER. on main google page, the page is as white as it gets, no tint what so ever. I am very happy with the screen.
I kinda love this setting, open up browser, click setting and you can set browser brightness.
No tint issues, don't feel any difference between epic vs epic touch...

I decided to make a video comparing my epic touch to a now sold g2x. I always thought the g2x was pretty quick and didn't have problems with the speed, just reboots and lcd backlight. I'm glad to say I haven't had those issues with my samsung phone.
Overall I think the Epic is faster, not by a huge margin though. The battery life is absolutely amazing and don't have any complains.

I loved my g2x.... But the back lightbleeding and overheating killed it for me...
Btw love talons as well I got a boosted 93 tsi

Super Amoled Plus is definitely more enjoyable for watching movies instead of that white backlight.

I've seen this in another video, and they said it's the camera trying to focus, so I guess that's what the noise is. I didn't hear it while recording.
You guys talking about backlight issues, is that anything like the "light seepage," I experienced on 3 brand new EVOs out of the box? It wasn't huge and didn't effect function, but it did look "cheap."

Yeah its the same
Poor manufacturing and quality checks in my opinion... Not all phonds do it but the og evo had the worst ive seen... all by the capacitive buttons...
On the g2x it was really bad in the corners
I made a youtube video comparing 2 g2x's sids by side (search nate93dsm)

Hey there, new to this forum. Wondering if anyone has experienced a reddish tint in photos with white backgrounds indoors. Looks like this...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Yeah I get that too. Apparently its pretty common across many phones from many manufacturers. Just Google "phone camera red tint" and you will see what I mean.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Thanks for the reply. Yea noticed that searching as well. Also had it on my g2x. Is it just bad software recognition of white then?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
I seem to notice it worse with incandescent light. If I were to guess I'd say its a general Android driver problem since most all of the devices experiencing it are Android. Though I've seen fewer cases of iPhones doing it as well so I really don't know at that point.

I don't seem to get it anymore with camera zoom fx
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
This is an issue with many smartphone cameras, regardless of manufacturer.
It's a combination of hardware, software, and a mixture of different White balance values.
