[Q] can't locate /mnt/sdcard/ - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Trying to root my A100. Process requires access to /mnt/sdcard/. Using ES Explorer I can see a folder /sdcard/ but it is not under /mnt/. I can get no higher up the file structure than /sdcard/. It's like the /mnt/ folder doesn't exist. Android version is 3.2.
What's going on? If I use the /sdcard/ folder thar i have access to will the root process work? From what I read the operation is very particular about where the files and command lines are stored.

I changed the Home Directory (in settings) to /mnt/sdcard/, then the toggle at the far left toggles from home (internal) to SD card (external). Toggle it to the external and go into the mnt folder, then external_sd.

Just click the "UP" button until you can navigate to the directory of your choice...

use file manager click home then up you should see it

thanks folks for the help. Fisterkev nailed it. Simply using the "up" function wasn't enough.

Cant you flash it from recovery? Only try if you know its flashable

I've tried to flash some from recovery no luck.
I knove about the Villain setup, but I want to have this clean bootanimation, from a miui rom that only says ANDROID and on the button is a flower like cirkel.

Two ways for you :
Installation instructions:
Using Root Explorer:
Mount your phone to your PC and place the bootanimation.zip file at the root of your sdcard. Then using Root Explorer navigate to your sdcard, long press on the bootanimation.zip file until a popup menu appears. Select "Move" or "Copy". Once you select one, "Paste" and "Cancel" buttons will appear near the bottom of your screen. Now, press the back button to move to the root of your file system. Then navigate to data/local/ and then press "Paste". You'll be prompted to overwrite the existing bootanimation.zip. Press "OK". Then reboot.
Using ADB:
Download the zip file and place it in the tools directory of the Android SDK. Mount your phone. Then using a command prompt on your PC "cd" to the Android/tools directory and type the command:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
Hit enter, and once this command is done processing type reboot and hit enter.
No credit to me just copy paste from another site. Good luck and tell us if it's work !
Sooo Easy! Thank you!
The real deal root explorer did the trick.

[Q] system folder and lang cahnge in MIUI rom.

from the headline, where is it? am i blined?
anothre thing, where do i find the build.prop file in the system folder, so i can change the lang in my phone?
thanks for any help.
p.s
sorry for any english mistake-not my prime lang.
Hi
To view system folder u will need root explorer or similar file manager. Inside the system folder is build.prop
Ordinary file managers will only show SD content.prob why you can't see it, there is prob a free file manager also but I only use root explorer as I find it very good.
Hope that helps

i use ASTRO file manager. am i loking at the wrong place?
Astro only views SD card contents, you need one that will view phone file s
The system folder is on ur phone not SD
Download file expert from market that's free
Open it ,on local tab just press back arrow in top right corner, then click the back slash this will bring you too all files.
Then click system
Hope that helps

you are great! works fine.
how can i replace it with another build.prop file from my PC?
Not sure from PC assume it would be thru adb but I don't no much about it
U can do it manual just put it on ur SD then copy and paste it to ur system folder ,make sure permissions match the original
Try root browser lite its free and works much better than file expert allows copy paste moving and permission changes.
Long press on files for all options

thank you, will try.

[Q] Delete folders from root\sdcard\Android\data\ using root explorer

I have some superfluous folders from long-since-deleted apps in root\sdcard\Android\data\ that i'd like to clean up. one of them is massively large.
I'm on AOKP build 31, rooted, and using an up-to-date copy of Root Explorer (w/ super user) but the delete command fails. Mounting and deleting the folders using Windows makes them disappear from windows, but they don't disappear from root explorer (And the space they were gobbling up doesn't free up in android either)
I have a feeling these folders are resisting deletion while android is running because they're "in use" (even though they shouldn't be, since the apps themselves are long since deleted) Is it possible to mount my sd card to my PC from CWM recovery/bootloader and delete them that way?
Am I doing something dumb?
Try rmdir -R /sdcard/*foldername* in terminal emulator

You'll find the same folders in /data/media and you should be able to delete them from there...

Thank you! That did the trick. I had no idea the file structure was put together that way (fairly incomprehensible, actually)

Nice idea. I don't mean to be a spoil-sport, or a smart-ass.... But here goes...
Either that, or you can wear your geek glasses and do the following (root required).
1. Get Root Explorer or a similar app.
2. Browse to /data or /system or the root / or any other folder you like. But make sure you have got some free space left.
3. Mount R/W
4. Create a folder in any name you like. Let's say rktcool.
5. Put your contents in there.
6. ta da! You are done.
Now, your data is relatively more secure
If you want further security, backup Root Explorer using appSaver, or something similar, and then uninstall it. Now, the stock file managers can only browse your sdcard, and you have to install it (Root Explorer) again to be able to view your hidden files...
Pardon me OP, but I just happened to think about this one. Sorry for messing up your thread

Making folder in your firmware root location is not a safe location, cause, files may be deleted during flashing firmware packages. And also using the system space may cause many problem for your phone, cause, those spaces are specified for just system datas.....

I think the data being lost during a firmware flash is not much of an issue. It is same as an sdcard - you will always have a backup when you are going to format it.
I meant /system as an example. If that causes any problem, there are always other folders out there like /data where applications you install on your internal memory go. You could keep your files there and install apps on sdcard always.
Better still, you could partition your sdcard, and store your secret files in the second partition, so that they are not even accessible by the normal file managers!

Rooted, yet unable to....

I'm now rooted using CF method, no custom recovery though. I want to remain stock. But, one of the primary reasons I went ahead and rooted is so that I can get rid of the 2 horrible power on & off sound files. Is it just me or do you also find those completely obnoxious and loud??
Anyhow, here's the problem:
I've located the 2 files (poweron.ogg and poweroff.ogg). I don't want to delete them, I just want to rename them so they are in essence "hidden" and can't be called, therefore keeping my sanity everytime I shutdown or startup. But when I try to rename (I've now tried ES file explorer and Astro - both to no avail) the files, I get a permission denied or some other message saying the file is write-protected and I'm unable to rename or delete.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
You need to make the folder r/w (read/write) instead of r/o (read only). You should have that option in all root explorer software.
Install es file explorer, press the menu button and then root explorer. Then from there go to mount read/write and change the system checkbox to r/w. Now you should be able to mod the files.
