Change bootanimation -GingerVillain Rom- - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, how can I manually change the bootanimation.zip in Gingervillain? I can't delete the old or copy the new with "root explorer"
Can someone help!?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Cant you flash it from recovery? Only try if you know its flashable
Btw there's a few bootanimation in the villain setup in the app drawer, the eyesonlybob is a decent one

I've tried to flash some from recovery no luck.
I knove about the Villain setup, but I want to have this clean bootanimation, from a miui rom that only says ANDROID and on the button is a flower like cirkel.

Two ways for you :
Installation instructions:
Using Root Explorer:
Mount your phone to your PC and place the bootanimation.zip file at the root of your sdcard. Then using Root Explorer navigate to your sdcard, long press on the bootanimation.zip file until a popup menu appears. Select "Move" or "Copy". Once you select one, "Paste" and "Cancel" buttons will appear near the bottom of your screen. Now, press the back button to move to the root of your file system. Then navigate to data/local/ and then press "Paste". You'll be prompted to overwrite the existing bootanimation.zip. Press "OK". Then reboot.
Using ADB:
Download the zip file and place it in the tools directory of the Android SDK. Mount your phone. Then using a command prompt on your PC "cd" to the Android/tools directory and type the command:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
Hit enter, and once this command is done processing type reboot and hit enter.
No credit to me just copy paste from another site. Good luck and tell us if it's work !

Sooo Easy! Thank you!
The real deal root explorer did the trick.

If doing by adb, place the bootanimation.zip in your android sdk folder, in command prompt, navigate there, and issue the following commands:
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
adb reboot
/system/customize/resource on sense roms
OR
place the file on your sdcard, use root explorer, enable r/w, copy the file, then move it to the above folder.

you need to download the Android SDK from the internet.
If you don't have ADB setup, it would take you two seconds to do this with root explorer to copy this from you sd card to system/media.

Very simple. Go to the site, install, open in, hit the sdk manager exe, run it, it creates a folder and you're done.
Then you you navigate to the folder via command prompt, then do your business.
None of this Bootscreen stuff makes sense, Please help?
I am using Evervolv-Acies rom, with clockmod recovery. I am trying to install this custom boot screen, but it's not working or I am doing it wrong. I have tried...
Install with "PushBoot" installer
- Download PushBoot HERE
- Extract "PushBoot" folder
- Move boot animation zip to "PushBoot" folder
- Plug in device (Leave in charge only mode) & double click "PushBoot2" Batch file
- Follow prompts in cmd.exe window to install your boot animation
Install with Root Explorer
- Download bootanimation.zip and put on root of your SD card
- Open RE & navigate to "system/media"
- Select "Mount R/W", then either delete, or move existing bootanimation.zip
- Navigate back to "sdcard", then move bootanimation.zip to "system/media" (AOSP ROMs)
- For Sense ROMs, move it to "/system/customize/resource"
Is Root Explorer a program? Or is it just File Library? or there is another App in the market, just Explorer.
Under File Library, I went to system/media and then it shows my zip file, but what do I do with this.. It doesn't sync with the directions. Also, the other way, was pushboot, which I tried, plugged in my usb cable to my computer and phone, hit the pushboot2 on the computer, couldn't find device. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is change this bootscreen and possibly a splash screen?? Please help???
Root explorer is an app available from the market...just long press on the new bootanimation.zip, select copy navigate to the correct path for your Rom , rename old bootanimation.zip to bootanination.bak (if you want to keep it) paste in the new file...bada bing bada boom...you're done. What folder you need to navigate depends on which Rom you are using....

Deleted my BIN folder on accident

Title. Nothing will update, nothing will install. I'm afraid to reboot. What can I do?
Device -- Xperia Play R800X
Adb push or root explorer the folder to /system from the unzipped rom
what device?
Whole folder at once would be easier but doesn't matter just make sure permission are rwxr-xr-x
Easiest way to change perms is with a root file explorer, I use es explorer in settings enable root then mount system as write, long hold the file, goto properties then change permission. Or adb remount chmod not sure of the actual perm set you'll have to search.

[Resolved] how to copy apk to /system/app?

How to copy apk to /system/app?
My phone is Arc and installed cm9 fxp126, and I want to install this theme "AOSP themed Lockscreen" at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724602.
At cmd, I did as shown at attached picture.
Also I tried with "root explorer, but when moving file to "system/app" the error message came "read only". I can change "r/w" and "r/o" at root directory, but I could not change directory permissions at "/system" and "/system/app".
Please let me know how to move or copy thi apk to "/system/app".
Thanks in advance.
You've not remounted system to be r/w, I believe in root explorer there should be an option to enable remount.
Edit- do you have root?

it is easy to mount the file system from command prompt but if root explorer cant do it there could be a problem with your rooting
can you confirm that in the system folder you cant press the "mount r/w" button

Don't know what ROM you are on... your knowledge of pushing apps to /system (ie., via adb), etc., so I'm attaching the stock samsung keyboard (plain grey) with auto-correct functionality. You need to be rooted at least. Copy the attached apk to your phone... then, using your favorite root file manager (like Root Explorer, etc) copy to /system folder first... fix permissions to rw.r..r.. then, MOVE to /system/app. It will ask if you want to replace the current "SamsungIME.apk", answer yes. You should be good to go.

Those are folders/files in the flashable zip. Let's try the simpliest approach first.
1. Download "Root Explorer (File Manager) from the PlayStore, and install
2. From my post #6 above, save the attached file (SamsungIME.apk)... on your phone's sdcard
3. Open Root Explorer, and navigate to the folder on your phone (sdcard) where you put the SamsungIME.apk... long press it, then select "Copy"
4. now while still within Root Explorer, navigate to /system folder, and hit "Paste" (make sure you mount as R/W.. it's the button at the top. If you are mounted as Read Only, you'll get an error message "You cannot past here because the file system is read only". Just hit the "Mount R/W" toggle at the top of screen.
5. Now, "SamsungIME.apk" is in your /system folder. You need to fix permissions. Long press "SamsungIME.apk" and select "Permissions". There are boxes with green check marks. toggle the boxes so that you only have green check marks in: Owner: R W ; Group: R ; Others: R. Hit "OK"
6. Now, long press "SamsungIME.apk" file again, and select "Move"
7. Navigate to /system/app (you should already be in /system, so just tap the "app" folder
8. Make sure you are still mounted as "R/W", if so, tap the "Paste" key at bottom. this will put "SamsungIME.apk" in the /system/app folder
9. if you did all this correctly, you should be good to go...

It appears you are not understanding some of the android basics...and that can be extremely dangerous... especially since you are rooted. From you screenshot, you show zip files in your /system folder. Per my previous post, I stated to copy "SamsungIME.apk" to /system... fix permissions... then MOVE to /system/app. Your screenshot shows zip files in your /system folder (i.e., "SamsungIME.zip"). My attachment is the apk file itself. So apparently when you downloaded, it zipped it for compression purposes. YOU NEED THE APK. I suspect it is inside that zip file.. so you'll need to know how to unzip that zip.. and get the ".apk" The APKs goes into the /system/app folder (Not /system). Try again, and get the SamsungIME.apk out of that zip... copy that apk to /system.. fix permissions... then move (not copy) to /system/app (it's a sub folder within /system). If this didn't work, you have done something wrong.
Damn I had the feeling some was wrong. So should I get that out of the system folder? How do I do that ? I cant delete or move them. Does it harm if I leave them there? Ya im trying that now how yiu explained the apk I get it . Thanks alot tho for ur patients

I use Root Explorer... if you long press the file, you get the option to delete file. Delete the ".zip" files in /system folder. Your screenshot looks like ES File Explorer (or something similar). You should be able to "select" that zip file, then delete. Go back to my Post#6 and download the APK file (SamsumgIME.apk)... do not zip it... you should be able to download file as apk. Then follow my previous instructions. Again, get the APK file (not .zip) to /system folder.... then fix permissions... then MOVE (don't copy or you will leave a copy of the apk behind in /system) to /system/app folder. System apk files belong in the app subfolder of system (/system/app). When you go to paste the apk in /system/app, you will be asked to replace existing file... replace it. Try again... report back.
Ok thanks will do that tomorow . I use es explorer yes. When I try to delete it says file cannot be deleted. Cant see any apk file I use windows 8 maybe tahts why?

some idea?
For Stock Rom you need rooted phone.
There are many apps, you can use e.g. "Root Explorer" from Play Store.
I think there is a free version available.
Procedure for Root Explorer:
1. copy wished .apk to Storage on phone.
2. start Root Explorer
3. go to .apk you want to copy in system/app
4. select it and copy
5. go to system/app
6. in upper bar in the middle you can see mount status. (-ro)
7. change it to -rw by clicking on it and select item -rw
8. Superuser app flushes: grant access
9. Paste .apk in system/app
10. Restart your phone and have fun.
Feel free to ask if further problems occurs.

Yes! Is true, not compatible, I have folowed guide from teddytsen, all right, but after reboot after my phone freeze and tell me AxT9IME.apk (samsung keyboard) can´t work and stop!
I tested deodex .apk too and same problem always. And if I use Uninstaller Master and see in System apps, there is way to AxT9IME.apk normal- /system/app/AxT9IME.apk, but there is write "2.3.6"!
I want just same as I writed in my first message in atachement. But I don´t know if exist any compatible apk with my Stock or Custom ROM (I have problem with this in both).
In 4.1.2 JB is poor 3x4 grey keyboard... Don´t want it, maybe better downgrade
