Not sure how XDA is about posting links to other sites but there is a tar in the description to this video on how to install the stock EL26.
Actually being new I cant post it at all title is "How to Install Stock EL26 Android 2.3.6 on your Samsung Epic 4G Touch: done by QBKing who is here as well.
If you are really sure you want it the leaked stock EL26 is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415176
It will disable/restrict the USB jig functionality and isn't directly rootable.
If you want something as close to possible to EL26 with just root added, the EL26 ODIN One-Click in my signature will get you there.
You could also get completely stock by using the EL26 One-Click in my signature, then unrooting using Auto Root, or by flashing the EL26 ROM-only (in the 2nd post of that thread)
These options won't disable/restrict the USB jig functionality.

Is this this becoming the norm for Samsung or is it just on the 2 leaked firmwares so far? Or maybe we dont know yet? I was just thinking how the ability to have something like the jig would influence my future purchases.
It is not that the USB jig is completely disabled. It still "works". It just doesn't reset the counter anymore. I'm sure it is the norm from now own as they made the same change in the Intl version.
Just flash one of the ODIN One-Click's in my signature and the issue is resolved.
Thanks guys! I'm looking into theming and just wanted to have a stock ROM to look at and thought the most recent would he best.

Ok so now how to root I noticed there was like a one click root.....I'd like to keep it stock while I get accustomed. And Odin root. Which one should I do?

Stock's actually a pretty good experience, but you'll want to odin to stock EL26 to get rid of CiQ. I'm running stock EL26 right now and it's silky smooth. The thing you'll like the most about this phone will be the screen.
Can you please link me to one? Does it have a custom recovery baked in?

Anyone of the Odin root methods in development will work rather easily for you or you can try sfhub root method which seems to be the way everyone is going. Check the stickies for great info and just do your homework before you jump in.
Even though you like it stock there are some nice custom roms in development that run great. Skim through them and see which one best matches your needs. If you were to ask me to pick I would say all of them... These guys have been doing a great job

I odined this,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415924
then flashed this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390393
The first link is to Stock EL26, directly from Samsung Servers. The second one is a custom recovery that in my opinion is #1 at the moment. No problems here. If you're wanting to flash a theme or add-ons, you'll want to flash the deodexed stock version from the first link.
sfhub's auto root script works awesome and I highly recommend looking at that. Its really easy, and does what you need it to do.

The short time I was on ek02 it seemed decent, but thats a limited timeframe of running it. I have recently been running Blazer ROM 3.4 (which is EL26) with a nice ICS theme.

Congrats man on the new phone. No the rooting process I'd going to be different on the epic. Sfhub has created a one touch root method that is definitely the most user friendly, and is highly recommended.

Great choice man on a phone but forget the way you thought with the Evo in some cases and do hardcore reading up on your new phone prior to doing anything since it will save the million and one questions you may ask. Check out the wiki section as well for some great tips. Enjoy and welcome aboard - just do me a favor and read read and then read some more

Thank you....I do like the thinness of the phone compared to my evo.....it is pretty large though!
I am VERY familar with rooting and restoring roms on my evo, I think I did it about 100+ times.
It was pretty simple, download Unrevoked and bam! I am looking at Odin and Sfhub's one touch root method.....so...One of them should be fine.
I dont understand what the modems are used for. Do most ROMS come with them? I understand that they are used to communicate with Carrier towers...but is the higher version always better? What are they compared to on an Evo, if at all.
Thanks!

IMO the best method to root then install cwm is to.flash rooted el29 with the Odin method than use the one click to install cwm. Thats how I did it at least.

Yeah, I just got mine last night and this is what I plan on doing at work today. Mine is on el29 so as I understand it I would want to flash rooted el29 then install cwm in autoroot. Once I've had it for a few days I'll probably start testing out third party roms but I have a weird thing where I like to run stock(ish) for a little bit just so I get to know the phone and know what "baseline" performs like. Also, I already like this phone stock more than the Evo with Sense. Touchwiz seems much less intrusive and overly glossy. Only little annoyance I have is that when I did OTA update to el29 I lost scrolling wallpaper so I may jump to calkulins rom just to get that back.

please don't flash the international ics rom either..... *drops mic and walks away*
Ive had my Epic 4g Touch for a couple of days now. Im coming from the Evo 3D. Touchwiz sucks compared to sense but this phone feels more powerful and smooth. Evo 3D also has a bigger dev support here in xda. Hopefully this changes considering this is a relatively new phone. I love the big screen on this phone and how thin it is. Im keeping it untill HTC comes out with at 4.5+ inch phone. Go to youtube and looks for qbkimg77 videos on this phone. They are very helpful.

First of all unrevoked is only for HTC devices in the Dev section you will find the Auto root its quite simple not as Unrevoked but quite helpful, then I would recomend you to run stock with root a couple of days and start with Calkulin's ROM, UnNamed, and other stockish roms with goodies and then flash everything you like as kernels(Rogue Hitman, LosKernel, etc) Modems(EG30, EK02, EL29, etc) of course rooted and other ROMs (CM7, CM9, etc) and always have a backup and Odin installed in your computed

Hey guys posting this up for a friend.
He sent me a message the other day after I told him about the voice app that is similar to Siri on the Iphone. He said he wanted that app and asked if I could install it for him, forgetting his phone was stock I said I would. Here is the thing, he wants to keep the phone like it is so changing rom's etc is out of the question.
Here is my current situation:
I rooted the phone and SuperUser is on there and shows to be working correctly. So that's a positive!
I downloaded the the autorun thing(sorry can't think of the name right now) where you could add ClockWorkRecovery to it. It's FF18 so I done the option D on the program and it ran and completed and the phone reset like it should but it won't go into CWR by doing the PWR+VolUp+VolDown that I'm used to.
Phone is running the ICS OTA update(FF18)
He doesn't have Root Explorer or any pay for app to allow me to delete any system apps or add any by copy and pasting. I have a ZIP file I found that would allow me to add the app through CWR but I'm not sure what I done wrong or if I don't know the correct way to get into CWR on that phone. I also read online that the factory Kernel won't allow the phone to go into CWR. I hate that I'm posting a thread that is common knowledge but I don't own the phone. Thanks in advance!!
Holding down the Pwr+Vol up puts you into Cwm....Pwr+Vol dwn puts you into download mode/odin

Awesome guys, thanks for the quick replies!!!
It was S Voice that he was wanting, does Google Now do the same thing? Any info/links? Much appreciated guys!!
Google now does the same thing and more, all much better than svoice and much much better than siri... overview found here... http://www.google.com/landing/now/
Apk here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224

The svoice app is Samsung's Siri equivalent. Its ok, but not really anything more than a novelty. Google now is part of jelly bean (which i'm kinda surprised you don't have on your nexus, but I digress) and is a much more polished Siri competitor, that is, in many ways and in my opinion better than siri.

I don't think it'll work on his phone since he's on the stock ROM and it says it must be a Deodexed rom. I think he'll be happy with SVoice, thanks again for your help!

Recovery is not safe to use on stock ff18 by the way. You could potentially brick your friend's phone. Please if you can provide current screenshots of about phone showing current rom and kernel.

He posted he already got the svoice zip flashed, regardless of the safety of the recovery he shouldn't have had to worry about it for what he was trying to do... he wasn't wiping any partitions to flash a rom or anything...

The PWR+VolUp worked and I flashed the SVoice.zip but it didn't install the app on the phone. If you try to install it through ES File Explorer it says "Application Cannot Be Installed". That phone is kicking my ass for whatever reason, I'm sure it's because of the stock ROM. My Fascinate and Nexus never did fight me that way, but they were never on stock ROM very long.
What's the best way to install this app on a stock ROM? Thank you all for the help so far.

The only unsafe thing in the recovery is a factory reset. Flashing a zip is not gonna brick you unless it's a seriously corrupt file.
Anyone have any info to add? Why won't this app flash through the zip in CWR?
-Edit-
Finally got it, thanks for your help guys!!!
Hey guys,
After two years of use, I finally managed to shatter the screen on my HTC EVO 4G. Now that I'm due for an upgrade, I'm going with Epic Touch 4G as LTE network won't be in my area for another year.
I've been browsing the forums and after lots of reading, my head is spinning.
There's all these acronyms.. like FF18 I don't understand.
I'm getting a brand new Samsung SII Epic Touch 4G tomorrow from a Sprint Store.
I plan on using some form of Cyanogenmod if available.
There are TONS of root threads that I've found - Where do I start? Which one should I go with?
Sorry if it's noobie questions, but I appreciate any answers. Thanks!
Read the stickies sections in the forums. Ff18 is a ice cream sandwich build, its just the build date. F=2012 f=June 13th. Fh13= 2012 August 13th etc. Qbking77 has helpful videos on YouTube. Just read in the forums a lot and read the stickies section and you will pick it up. Enjoy the phone. It depends on what build you are on to root. Sfhub has one clicks for every build I think.

No rom will require a modem to be flashed. As modems are sepreate from the roms. Only time you will flash a rom/kernel/modem all in one is the one click .tar odin. You can flash modems independently.

Hey guys, thanks so much for all the help.
I have successfully rooted my Epic 4G Touch and flashed CM9 Alpha 6 on it.
Thanks SO much to QBKing77 for his very intuitive and simple videos.
My next question involves CM9 and Wireless Hotspot
I noticed that whenever I activate Hotspot, my 4G disconnects and falls back to 3G.
I have searched on Google and saw that this is a relatively common problem, but is there a fix? If not, are there any other AOSP ICS-based ROMs I could use that have portable wifi hotspot available with 4G?
Thanks again guys.
