This is my first boot animation ever. Feel free to use this for anything you want.
During the boot process, the X continues to rotate.

Hi,
nice animation. but the background layer is not "full" black.
can you change this?
EDIT: another ROM and no problem with layer
got a good bootanimation idea if you'd like to make it
make the GNexus text larger and have the "X" symbol of Nexus pulse in the background like the N1's bootanimation.

What's the issue? Could you see the background? I can try to make it transparent but that won't be for a few days because I'd practically have to start from the beginning again, and I don't feel like it. I made a version that was full 720p images but the initial sequence ran much slower than it does now and looked pretty bad. You can download it From my rootzwiki thread if you'd like, but I don't recommend it.
I think it might look even better with the X rotating around the vertical axis.
I really like this boot animation. Nice and clean. I think it'd be cool to see a version that went vertically down the screen (yes, sideways) and was bigger. Thanks again!
Nice work. Thanks.
thx.

thx....very nice, and i like....
with bigxie 4.03 ROM good works
Wow! Simple, clean, elegant, I love it.

I really like it....just one problem that someone else mentioned
I'm running ARHD and the galaxy nexus has a bit of a grey bar around it rather than being the same black as the background
I tried using a different ROM but it still did it
It's fine if you're busy or whatever and can't get it fixed soon....just wanted to let you know of the problem
good job anyway
maybe mine is an isolated incident?
Running this and works great.

Just flashed this as well and loving it. Huge improvement over the boot animation used in Romanbb's AOKP ROM.

I, too, see a lighter grey box (the dimensions of the boot images) when booting up. I pushed this boot image to my stock, non-rooted, LTE Galaxy Nexus.
Love it
I have tried about 10 different boot animations and I find this one the best. Simple and looks great. Thanks for the hard work.
Simply and clean, I like it. ;-)
No grey border for me with kang 15.

UPDATE!
Thanks for all the great feedback.
It's taken me a while, but I've updated it with a larger logo and a much cleaner animation. Still needs a small tweak, but I'll get to it eventually.
The update is in the OP.
Thanks for this! It's not quite working perfectly for me though, so here's another data point to add.
I'm seeing a non-black background in a horizontal strip behind the text. In the latest version the gray background occurs when the text is initially being drawn from left to right. But once the text is drawn and the multicolor X starts to spin, the gray background disappears and all of the text is on a black background.
On the original animation with smaller text, the gray background appeared behind the text for the entirety of the animation. This newer one seems to be an improvement in that regard at least.
I'm running stock 4.0.2 unlocked and rooted on a VZW GN for reference.
Thanks for this animation: clean, elegant. Just right.
hey thank you for this bootanimation, however there is a minor issue i found... when it changes from "wipe" to "rotate" you see it jump. and why didn't you use a resolution of 1280x720 instead of 160x720?

Yeah i noticed that two. There are two different sequences, one unfolding the wording and the other with the rotating logo, and the text seems not to be perfectly aligned in both of them.
Wynalazca, i am loving this animation. Thanks a lot for your effort on it.

Good to hear! I might come knocking on your door in a few days then
I will happily test this theme when it is ready (or almost) ready.
Sadly I don't think this can be done the right way. I was able to do the same thing with the status bar but it was a placebo effect. You'll be stuck with the same wallpaper. If anyone is willing to prove me wrong I'll be happy for it, as I got lots of ideas I would like to try but stopped due to this hurdle. Good luck in getting this to work.
P.S. the clock looks absolutely awesome.
sure ill take a crack at customizing this theme further.... send me a .zip to [email protected]

Unfortunately you are absolutely correct. I'll just have to go for a sort of a dimmed status bar that'll look transparent but really isn't. Sigh. Why do you torment us like this, Android developers?
The clock does look good, and at least with that one we don't have to fake the transparency effect
I might do a bunch of status bars with different colors; one whiteish, one black, one red, one blue, one brown, etc. That way at least you could get the color of the status bar to decently match any wallpaper you might use. Of course that also means you would have to re-flash the phone every time you changed the wallpaper to something with a different general color.
Hum, I wonder, would it be possible to make a special update.zip containing only the framework apk? I mean, everything else ought to be left intact then, right? An install would be very speedy, just seconds, when all that is needed is an update of the framework. No apps, launcher etc to be reinstalled.
Thoughts?

Yeah, I've done it with individual apps that way too, but never with the framework apk that is in a different folder than the apps for some reason. I thought it might be different with the framework because of that, but it really should not be. Good to know it's doable though, thanks for confirming!
Pretty cool idea, does this mean it wont show your service? wifi service, battery level etc? I wasn't sure if that was just a mockup you made in photoshop or it will really be that blank
I like the transparent grayscale idea though. looks promising!

Oh, all status bar icons and such will be there once it's done. Though preferably they will be redesigned to fit the glossy theme better than the default ones.
If you can realize this theme like the concept you showed, it will be a most impressive theme. Even the concept is absolutely beautiful.
If we can figure out how to get rid of the black bar at the top when we make transparent status bars this theme would be able to take advatage of it
O.k i have never tried the transparent bar but i think there is two one in drawable an drawable-land the one in drawable-land is black did you try making both of theme clear? Then again there is a lot of stuff thats in the .xml that might be stopping the process. I would ask the .xml doctor to see if thats the case.

QFT's all over the place
qft's? what's that mean? seriously, I'm lost lol
So I have everything made correctly, and I've actually installed
this "theme", if you will, several times. I have one big issues that
I could not find a solution on any forum anywhere. For some reason,
the boot_robot.png and boot_robot_glow.png, even if they are made
with a transparent background, just like the originals, the animation
still puts a black box around the image. Not so much of an issue if
you are having a solid black background, but I have made a very
nice back ground that has some color behind where the boot_robot
is supposed to be. So I tried to just add the background surrounding
the area to the boot_robot files themselves, but then the _glow file
can't be seen because the boot_robot file doesn't have a transparent
background anymore. So I remove the background from boot_robot,
and now the glow effect plus the background fade in and out of a black
box surrounding boot_robot. Is there something that needs to be changed
with the animation file to accepts transparent alpha layers within the png,
or is there some other kind of fix?

Are you using a program that allows transparency to edit the .png files? Photoshop or GIMP as an example.
Yep, been using GIMP, and with no problem anywhere else, the background is transparent.
Try editing the background of "boot_robot" and "boot_robot_glow" to sync with the background image, if you can't fix the main problem. At least you'd get it LOOKING normal that way.
Be a little more specific with what you just said please.
Not sure what you just told me to do...

There is a second boot_robot image I believe in the launcher that you have to edit also. Cant recall exactly where is it is. Might be in the framework.
But what the previous person was saying was to make the background on the Android Image transparent so that you will just see the android not the blackbox. (correct me if Im wrong)
I will look at the files and where they are when I get home but you will most likely have an answer before then with the great help on this forum... But if not I will get you what you need to edit this... Sorry stuck at work right now!
See, that's the problem guys. Both files, even the new ones I made custom, cause it isn't staying with the little green guy, have transparent backgrounds. So when I load them up with GIMP, they have a transparent alpha layer background. BOTH OF THEM.
Sorry not trying to sound like a repetative arse, just letting you guys know, I've messed with these files a lot to try and make the backgrounds work properly, including changing the png bit depth, cause I read that was a solution for the same problem with app icons. So something else is going on. Best I can think is that the animation script for the splash isn't coding the files like they should, cause they are transparent for each other, but not for anything else.
I've had the same issue and never found a way to fix it, even trying different combinations on the android logos
I, too, had the same problem and ended up thinking it is just not possible. Which required a redesign of my boot screen leaving a black strip across the center.
Best work around to this issue is to just make the area where the glowing robot is black. I tried a lot of combonations trying to get the black squares to go away but I think its hardcoded into the bootscreen code. So it won't be done easily with just images.
Well messing with the boot screen code doesn't bother me so much. I would just like to know what file or files to mess with, and maybe I could find a coding solution.
Anyone know?
/bump
Should I move this over to the development forum?

this is the only way so far
I managed to modify my animated boot screen a while ago. I have the main part of it as MOSTLY the screen from Moon Dust (except it says "Special Edition Android" instead of what it usually says) and where it has the glowing moon with "HTC G1" on it, I have it set to the android image from the "Bloody Black" animated boot screen.
As i am sure many of you know you can force Windows Phone 7 to use transparent lock screens.
How you do it is you send the image to yourself in a email, open the image and tap "use as Wallpaper". You can not send it over Zune because Zune does not currently see .png files.
But since Mango people have been having trouble with transparent lock screens, it glitches, it loops.
The main thing is that these glitches are predictable and with a bit of thought you can still make some pretty decent transparent lock screens. Now im sure more creative people then i will make better use of this but there are two main set ups i have found to make good Mango transparent lock screens.
Note: All images shown are mock ups, it is faster for me this way then it is to load them and take pictures off the phone or emulator. Your results may very, and your final result maybe different for i did not test this with Zune cover art, or anything that used the top of the lock screen like media players.
One is the vertical loop, best used with logos or vertical repeating text or whatever you don't mind repeating vertically. Since the Rangers are going to the World Series(and will win) and i am a big Texas guy i will show you using the Texas Rangers logo, what you do is generally block off and fade out the top third of the screen and the bottom 8th or so.
Here you see the transparent image, the white is the transparency to save space:
{

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You do not make it white, you use png transparency, it is white for illustration purposes.
Left is when locked :: Right is when tapped
Keep in mind this of course is not the only way to do it. By covering all the way across the top forces the loop to repeat down. By covering the top 1/3 helps keep it from looping the date and time, and if i remember the bottom section keeps it from looping the notifications and battery at the top.
Now that's all fine and good but logos and repeating it like that can be boring, so what else can you do? Well with a bit of thought and creativity (or lack of) there are more designs you can do.
Basically you take this looping idea and view it as the back ground and take a focus image to the left side. You use the left side to cover the time and data messages. I have done some where it creates the mirror look as above, also where i tried to make it create an illusion, or where i separated the side to make it loop like it was snowing.
These follow this outline where you still take block out the top and bottom but now the left as well:
This is a outline so your sizes will change.
Here are a bunch of them, these are ideas so nothing is finished. So in other words dont email me if these specific ones don't work for you, use them as ideas, make them your self and make them your own. Though if you make any cool ones let me know.
Sorry, but not really, that all but like two of these are anime based.

See transparency is not so hard, and i am sure with more creativity then i have some one will come up with some awesome designs.

you have to send the png to yourself
If you Download one of the photos mentioned above and follow his instruction you will find it works brilliantly.
You send the image to yourself in a email, open the image and tap "use as Wallpaper". You can not send it over Zune because Zune does not currently see .png files.
I am glad you guys like it, i have lurked around here for years so its nice to be able to contribute. In fact i had to go around and make 8 random posts just so i could make this one with images.
I know with my lock screens i made above are not %100 perfect, especially when you start using the Zune player with the lock screen or with notifications. But im sure the more creative ones here will take the idea and run with it.

What up my fellow XDA buddies. I take no credit for this. I didnt create VRTheme nor did I make the black image. I just put it together so every ROM and GSM/LTE can use it. I didnt want to post this in the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588613 as he already had so much going on. Thought this would make it easier.
As always, make a NAND before and I am not responsible if this blows up your phone.

3. Flash

I made a similar thread a while back but used a MetaMorph/ZipThemer zip.
You should make a VRTheme zip using arzbhatia's image and give it to him to post in his thread, save him the trouble of making a zip for every ROM.
Thought it was the same image. That is why I made this thread. I linked it in the first post. I will download his to see what img he used and make one with that. thanks for the heads up
I just checked his, mine is a solid black. His is not. I didnt realize he removed the lines. I will just wait for him to tell me what he did to remove those (I am no dev what so ever) and then I will create a VRTheme with that. VRtheme is pretty simple. Same lines like metamorph/zipthemer but better I think. No app needed.

I looked at his zip. Do you know what other img or file he edited to make the lines removed? If you look at my img, there is no lines but when you use it, there are still lines in the settings. I wanted something more... "official" looking but not static and not looping. There are only a few looping animations I like.
Based on a very smart suggestion from kevinrocksman, I made an extra version that's more optimized (cut the number of images in half and halfed the framerate).
Plus side: half the filesize. Slight downside: not as buttery smooth as my original incarnation, but still very good.
NOTE: Filesize is average. 3.91MB

The "progress bar" starts at ~17 seconds (27% for me) since thats the amount of time it takes for the boot splash screen (the static SGN2 logo) to load.
After that, each frame denotes +1 px of the bar. There's a total of 462 frames. That equals 462 separate PNG's (this is the reason of the huge filesize). I have the framerate set to 10fps by default, since my note 2 takes about 1:30 to boot (i know, very slow, but I have over 300 apps installed and some other garbage) If you have a snappier boot up time, adjust the framerate to a higher number until the bar "progresses" at the desired rate. Like I said, this is a "progress bar", but you'll have to calculate the progress manually.
once you have is set, I guarantee you it'll be smoooooth as butter. It looks very nice and not too outlandish. I made it for myself, but figured I'd share it with the world.
EDIT: Added a new version. Half the frames, half the framerate, half the filesize,
Have fun.
Nice
I like this idea and will give 'er a try. I have a ridiculous amount of apps and scripts so this might give me something to stare at and ***** while rebooting lol!

I wanted something more... "official" looking but not static and not looping. There are only a few looping animations I like.
CAUTION: Filesize is pretty big. 7.82MB

..ok 1 quick question, why is it 400+ images?, u could cut that in half and it would still be smooth

true. but it'd only be half as smooth. Plus, it doesn't strain the system that much.
This is a good idea, however; and I am going to make it so.
UPDATE: I made one. It's not as smooth. Maybe because i've been staring at this thing for so long. I'll still upload it though. It does speed up boot-time by a couple of seconds.
Again, thanks for the suggestion.

couldnt u get rid of the extra black on the bottom? That might make it a tad smaller also

The extra black acts as padding. If i get rid of it, the "Samsung Galaxy Note II" text wont align up with the boot splash.

You don't unzip them. You have to put them in a folder...just cant remember the exact location of the filder (need root explorer)
I use ROM Toolbox to do the heavy lifting for me. I point it to the downloaded file, and hit "install" it does the rest.
Found it: Put the zip in /system/media
sorry, I failed to mention, once you choose the version you want (they look the same, just filesize that's different), you copy it to
/system/media
then you rename your current bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.old(or however you rename a backup)
Then rename the file you copied there (in this case gn2-progressbar2_optimized.zip) to bootanimation.zip
Hello,
Will this work on Stock 4.1.2 ROM?

Yes for sure
Hmmmmm....I keep trying but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I have properly renamed the file and set permission.
I have a question I hope you can answer. I have a custom boot animation with sound. My issue is that I can sync the audio with the animation. The animaton will boot first then shortly after the sound chimes. is there a way I can change this or is that how the boot order is supposed to be?
