Hello! I'm encountering a very serious problem and any help would be extremely appreciated. I had Bonsai4All on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S / Epic from Sprint) for months with no problems, til one day it randomly stopped booting and would just loop the Samsung logo or get stuck at the battery with the circle icon. Using the Clockwork Recovery menu I tried to re-flash the firmware but with the same results.. and now the 3 button download mode feature didn't work.
SO.. I got a USB JIG. That got me into Download Mode. Using Heimdall, I followed this guide (Simple Step By Step for ODIN/HEIMDALL recovery "HOW TO UNBRICK YOUR FASCINATE" ) to reflash my firmware with "CI500_VZW_EB01_FROYO_REL.tar.md5" which I now think may not have been the right file for this phone. After it uploaded all the data and said it was successful, the phone turned off. I expected it to restart, but it didn't. Just a black screen. I had it plugged into my PC via USB still. No LED to indicate it's charging, but that had happened before and it still was. Tried the power button, nothing.. unplugged it, took out the battery, put it back in, tried the JIG. Nothing--- stays at a black screen. Power button and various button combos have yielded nothing.
Does anyone know what the heck happened to my phone, and if there is anything I can do about it? I'm at the end of my rope here. I've heard of JTAG recovery, but I imagine that involves buying new tools, tearing the phone apart, voiding the warranty entirely, doing dangerous precision SMD soldering, and even then it probably isn't going to work..
Is there something else to try or should I just look into selling this to someone who can fix it, or for parts, and get a cheaper phone?
Thanks.
Ok, so you can't hold down 1 and the power button together and get to download mode right?valso, I have heard of the jig but where did you get it?

I was advised to take out the battery for 20min and then try 1+Power, I will do that in 5 minutes. That is a combination I'd not heard yet. I got the JIG from a shop that sells through Amazon.
OK, tried 1+Power.. nothing

Ok, try what you just did: Take out battery for a few minutes. Also, take out SD card. After a few minutes, plug cable that's connected to PC into phone with battery and SD out and try holding 1 and power down together again to get into download mode

Well, possibly the battery somehow died during the process. Also, I believe he was pointing out that if the battery is getting warm then the phone may not be permabricked. Usually you can find a way to rescue it. Its too soon to give up on it

Not to sound negative but I used Odin and flashed the wrong file once and my phone never recovered. I tried everything for countless days and eventually gave up. When i took it to my local sprint repair center they said they couldnt get it to turn on either. It sucks but it might be your best bet. just come up with a good story (of course leaving out that it was rooted) lol
Anyone want to buy this phone cheap? Physically, it's fine. I can't deal with this anymore.

Its trashed if you used the wrong file, because the pit that is auto detected in the Facsinate file will destroy info needed and it can't be recovered (the info) anyway that I know of.

If you do get it into download mode, I would try hooking into a computer with the battery out, then hold the 1 key on the keyboard then add pressing the power button together. You will want to grab the files from this thread and add the pit file and check repartition. Uncheck F.reset if in Odin. But Heimdall is better.

I once thought my epic failed and i tried holding the "1" and the power button on and putting the battery in and it worked.. i never tried it while plugged in though. Another thing i heard about was some reset button below the camera.. haha never tried it though.. and heres a random article i found.. hope it helps
If you flashed an epic with fascinate firmware you're pretty well hard bricked. The dude from mobile tech videos can jtag it.
http://www.mobiletechvideos.com/blog/tag/jtag/
He recovered my captivate when I got drunk and flashed the wrong bootloader. Or if you're just going to move on to a new phone, I'll give you $25 and bag of cheese for the bricked epic. If I get a bricked epic, I'm going to rip the cpu off and trace the pins so we can get the unbrickable mod working for us too.
Id buy it. What accesories do you have and how much would you want shipped? I'm thinking 50 bucks.

I followed this thread and thought posts explained why it is NOT insurance fraud. And if that person wanted to pay the $100 to put in a claim that is what the insurance is for. Is it any different than the genius that uses their phone as a hammer or the angry girlfriend that throws her phone? Fraud would be if you said you lost your phone just to have 2 phones. I would like a better explanation please.
I was trying to go back to 2.3.x using ODIN after I installed the KP8 (update for a "leaked" ics) on my phone. Now my computer won't read the phone on download mode. Anyone have a fix for this?
Or do you know if that USB JIG will fix it?
that was not for our phone....malciado....jtag is your only fix

Yea..... GSM + CDMA = your screwed
There is no leak for ICS for our phones yet.
So you flashed the GSM version.
2 options:
Sprint insurance
or
buy a new phone
No one has been successful at jtag, I wouldn't even waste my time.

Look up JTAG on Google. I believe they charge $50 for unbricking service. You'll be out of a phone for awhile, but it's not like the phone is going to do you any good in its current state anyways.
Good luck.

Yea bro just placed my order from Mobile Tech Videos i'll post up how everything went to help others out with this problem. Good thing I kept my EVO for backup
I can vouch that nothing will work. I had someone send me theirs to try and,I installed drivers through Kies, got drivers from XDA, tried a USB jig, hard reset, my SD card with Mobile Odin on it, etc, etc, etc. If when you hold volume up and power and you have the green Android guy holding a box and your phone says I9100, its jtag or nothing. I spent a week (about an hour a day) trying everything. If your phone powers on but you can't connect to wifi or SD card isn't recognized and no network is found, don't even waste your time. I tried because I hoped I could pull it off with the help of some of the great minds from around here but it just wouldn't be recognized by Odin....and it does beep when I plug it into my laptop....so close yet so far

Asking for help not helpless remarks, if want to keep doing that I also live in Kansas City just in case you want to keep goin at it. Let's keep these forums full of usefull tools not full of useless comments.
I have researched with no help what so ever. A buddy of mine got a Epic Touch 4G and accidentally flashed gti9100 rom on there.
I told him I will try to help him out.
The battery that is in the phone is gone. It flashes blue when it's plugged to a power source and you cannot start the phone to "download Mode" with the battery.
As soon as you insert that battery and plug in power source, the phone attempts to turn on and at the bottom you get " 3 icons "Phone, triangle, computer" and underneath the icons it says "Firmware Encountered" and the rest I cannot read.
I have a Epic Touch 4g myself and no stranger to flashing and roms.(currently running codname). I can use m y battery in the other phone and it will allow me to turn it on and get to download mode. Problem is, I cannot get USB connection.
Tried different cable, computer, front ports, back ports, downloaded the gti9100 drivers instead on a different computer and still no connection. Really I do not think there is a fix, but giving one my try in the forums.
thanks

One other possible thing that worked on old epics. Try taking the battery and external sd out for a day to let the internal ram clear. Then try going into dl mode with the phone plugged in but the battery removed.

This is not always true. When I first got my E4GT I flashed an international ROM too and it actually let me boot into it but it was really messed up everything was stuck in landscape mode and none of the capacitive keys would work. I could not connect to the PC while booted into the ROM but in download mode I was actually able to. I would give the idea of taking the battery and SD card out for a day a try. What can ya lose?

Took the battery out and then put the USB in and the phone just keeps rebooting. Doesnt show the triangle or anything. Phone works fine with the current rom. Dont know what else to do.
Maybe USB plug - not cord- , is faulty. If u have anything else u can connect thru same plug in. If phone still works its the only thing I can think off

hooked up my old HTC inspire and worked just fine. I think its the phone.
Its not supposed to keep vibrating and restarting while the usb is connected and no battery is inserted. I'm puzzled here. Tried flashing a diff rom as well. Complete wipe and what not.
OK best thing I can say its send for replacement phone. Mine was water damaged as I bought my sgs2 for $100 in craigslist. Called tmo and they charged me $20 for the replacement. Other than what I suggested I don't know what else u can do

Funny thing is i have no clue once so ever how this all happened. Randomly started happening.
Maybe a bad download. Its a well known issue once in a while.. its the chances we take for experimenting bro. Can't be mad, its the flash itch, yanno. Its like a drug

ok so after getting my jig through the mail i tried to make it work and not sure if i am doing it right but my custom bonary says "no". usb device not recognized! This is getting real frustrating now!
Sounds like your uSB port on your phone has gone bad, which is a known issue. Had to replace my wifes phone in order to upgrade to ICS.
I called up TMO and the rushed out a replacement unit. They charged me $20, but I called and complained so they removed it.
I doubt its the usb port. It goes into download mode and charges but the computer wont recognize it. I've already claimed insurance also cause i needed a phone to use. Id like my original s2 that i rooted back to normal! I dont think they will honor it either being that the phones been rooted and the custom binary says "no".
i just changed the digitizer as well for $170 my self being that the old one cracked thinking i can revive this phone now im stuck with this $500+ paper weight. It works and i can switch between roms only if i load the rom on the sd card through my other phone then put it in the bricked one (this one)
Is there a way i can flash the firmware through SD?
Can you go into recovery? If so which one are you using, CMW or TeamWin? If that's the case you should be able to
"feeding this unicorn carrots til the finish line"
i can go in both. CWM and factory mode, the one with the android on the screen and says downloading at the bottom.
So issue being its that its not recognized unto your PC? That being so you can download zips thru your phone and install that way. All I can think off is that your USB is fried somehow. Still capable of function.
Sent from my SGH-T989
yes the computer wont recognize and no i cant download zips through it. I have to download on another phone then transfer the sd card to this phone (unrecognizable one)
Anyone else have any more ideas please
You do know that you can download zips from within your phone?
Hey E4GT peeps;
So listen to this quick little story, and then let me know if I'm correct in my assumption:
I used to have JellyBean on my phone, not CM10, but Sbrissen's amazing ROM... well I decided to go back to stock everything and upgrade to ICS that way/etc... don't ask me why 'cause I don't know yet. lol. Well I did it, and I believe I used the One-Touch-Stock option to do it all. Well I went back to stock, everything was kind of weird... Android system felt laggy, and crashed, I was on ICS at that point btw, it was Stock FF18 I believe. Well anyways, I tried to do a few things, and suddenly things got worse... my battery stopped charging up completely... I would get the "Voltage too high" bs @ around 23% battery life. Well suddenly tonight the phone just shut off... and won't charge anymore. It won't turn on, and when I plug it into my PC or the wall charger, it still does nothing. All I get is a soft blinking blue light... not a solid red light (aka charging light)... well I tried to just let it sit on the charger for a few hours, and I left it off the charger for a few hours and still no success.
So I'm wondering... Do you think this is a Brick?
Do this you should be good.

Yes, I pulled battery, tried to boot in both recovery/download mode... Right now I can't even get it to turn on. Occasionally I get the blue light that flashes every like 4 seconds. Phone doesn't show up in Odin at all.
Are you sure your battery is good? Because nothing that you've posted that you did should have resulted in a brick... I'm not very familiar with the "voltage too high" issue, I know there are threads about it though, you may want to take a look at the solutions offered there as your issue seems to be much more related to power than any traditional cause of a brick...

That's actually something I thought might be the issue. I'm going to the Sprint Store in like 5-6 hours and we'll see what the real issue is. I only jhope for a brick so that way they can replace my device, since I've dropped this one a few too many times and you can see the wear and tear.

My guess is either bootloader or something physically wrong with the phone. Anything happen to it lately - get wet, dropped, etc?
Flashing blue is the battery. I've had this happen 3 times now.
Yeah solid blue is the brick. Blinking blue is likely the battery

Thanks for the responses, it's currently sitting at the Sprint Store for repairs... I'm actually going to leave to go get it in like 40 minutes... If it's the battery, that's fine, cause they can easily get it working fast, which is good, because I need the phone for business/work.
Hate to sound negative, but mine was doing pretty much the same thing and it was definitely bricked. I took it to the sprint store and the tech scratched his head and said he's never seen one not be able to get into download mode. He then replaced the screen. Obviously didn't help. Mine had a solid blue light for a while, then as the battery wore down, the blue light flashed, but very very dim. I was hoping it was the battery too, but the rep at the front counter switched the battery for me before it even went to the tech. Anyway, good luck! Hopefully you're situation turn out better than mine!
mine did the same thing while I was on vacation so I wasn't flashing it was the charging port. Try bending the little port down a little

So I am back from the Sprint Store (and feeding my son), and basically it was the charging port... they said it has corrosion on it... from moisture... and I had to file a claim through asurion. How lame. The guy at the store was pretty dumb as he had no clue what was really wrong with it and couldn't even explain basic things... none the less, the tech guy assured me it was just the charging port itself, one of the prongs on it were damaged beyond repair, but since it was 'corrosion' they can't do anything about it. I need to shell out $100 to get a new one sent now.
Woot. At least I will be able to take better care of my replacement and not get it roughed up like this one, haha.

That's why I don't brick phones. The only time I go see Sprint is when something physical happens, even then, they don't fix it.

That's funny... When I actually did brick my phone the sprint tech said exactly the same thing. It's funny because I also left the store while they were going to do the repair. I was also told to pay $100 dollars because of "corrosion" on the board where the charging port is.... coincidence? Did you happen to go to the store in Mesa, AZ near Fiesta mall?
I don't see how "corrosion" on the USB port is preventing a charge, a good cleaning should fix that, I mean its not like a whole pin would have spontaneously rusted off. I also would suggest taking it to another store

i had a problem with the charging port on mine, and they replaced it free of charge, if they tried to charge me 100 i would be pissed
