Ok the other day i decided to get rid of the orange rom from my HTC Desire so i created a goldcard flashed the testruu.exe file then i rooted my phone. yesterday i decided to unroot it and reflash the htc generic rom. all was working perfect then today i checked for ota update. there was one ready to download so i got it installed and it was working fine. ive just got home from work now and my wifi says unable to start under settings. dont know how its happened
Any ideas how to fix this.
Thanks in advance.
p.s.
please dont tell me ive got to flash my phone again otherwise i will get all my friends iphones to rape the desire right up the usb slot
you could try doing a manual update using the RUU 1.21.405.2 in the dev forum. I used that and I have no wi-fi problems...
Funny, the other reports of broken wi-fi I've read seem to be from people who had previously rooted their phones too...
Is there no other way around this other than flashing the rom?
Doubt it, but it's pretty soon after the official roll-out. Give it time and somebody might figure something out.

Mine has never been rooted and I have the same wi-fi problem after the 1.21.405.2 update.
Not so funny then, I guess.
Try flashing with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684259
It's the same update... but it works. At least, it worked on mine and many others. It will wipe everything so make sure to back up first.
Same here...Never rooted, but I did de-brand with a generic ROM using a GoldCard. Can't start Wi-Fi.
Does anyone know if T-Mobile customers with the stock T-Mobile ROM have received this update?
Hello. Exactly same problem for me: Orange France ROM flashed to official HTC, and after upgrade unrecognized wifi. It was never rooted.
How to be sure to have an official ROM ?
Thanks.
Ok, so it's not rooting, but we now have three people in this thread who have flashed to the generic rom and then updated, who now have broken wireless.
Teppic24 - how about you? Did you debrand your phone? Just curious. If that's the issue maybe we can warn people who have done the same...
Yes I did de-brand.
So basically, everybody in this thread who has wireless issues, de-branded their phone before applying the update?
There's a pattern here...
It's exactly the same for me. I debranded my French Orange HTC Desire with the official HTC Rom, and now no more Wifi
What's more, I have never rooted my Desire.
arrrrrrggggghhhh Help!
Just flashed it using the same 1.21.405.2 rom from the dev section and now its asking for sim network unlock pin
I put in my goldcard and booted to fastboot then with my phone connected to pc i ran the rom.exe and it installed booted up and now its asking for sim network unlock pin.
Any ideas plz
Thanks
Dion
Yeah, I don't know what exactly the issue is, but the debranding does seem to be the culprit (so far, anyway)
As mentioned previously, you can probably fix it by flashing your Desire with the rom linked in the first post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684259
It's an official release. It will wipe everything, so make sure to back up first.

I take it a Goldcard is still required to flash that, even for de-branded phones?

Yep...and now I feel like a **** for leaving it lying around my overly tidy girlfriend who doesn't take care of what she's throwing out when she's gone all Monica for the day.
Well, I just plugged my phone in and opened the RUU on my pc. But my desire is a stock, unaltered model.
I don't know if it will be the same for you guys.
With my unabeled wifi, rebranded HTC rom after Orange, my base band version is:
32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
In hope it helps...
It seems that there is no trouble with this one : 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2.
If someone want to make a test ... and there an other one : 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2
Silly question probably, but I don't care:
Is it possible to flash only the baseband ?
ok, i have full root, everything is done correct, super user access...everything
I had Damage Control 3.1.2, updated the radio it worked fine! then i went and updated wimax..and everything went to hell!!
i have tried to switching back and fourth between the different wimax radios, and sometimes it would come back..well i got sick of messing with it so i went back to stock with root! and now i cant seem to get 4g to work!
Under the Menu settings, software Info:
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: 1.36.00.04.02
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-ac94cf60 [email protected]#1
Build Number: 1.17.651.1
Browser Version: WebKit 3.1
PRI Version: 1.34_003
PRL Version: 60669
i just need to know which radio i should re try just to get my 4g back!!!
please help asap
Your title was a little misleading so I canged it accordingly.
I would suggest trying this to get you to 1.47 with all the the correct radio/wimax
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915
Test that out -- it worked great for me.
From there, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743352 and download the 2.2 Rooted Odexed ROM, New radio, and new wimax. Follow the directions and make sure to do a full reboot after flashing each.

trying it now! im trying to avoid going to 2.2 until DamageControl releases their version...but i hope this works!
hey do i need to re root also? because i lost my root
wait, i just red you had to install super user, and its suppose to automatically root/nand/ and do everything? how is this possible
Can you post a little bit more detail as to what issues you are experiencing?
Is your 4G just stuck on scanning?
Is your 4G scanning > connecting to sprint > obtaining IP address > back to scanning > etc etc endless loop.
Have you checked to make sure your wimax mac id is still correct?
What area are you in? Try posting to see if anyone else in your area is experiencing problems. Just worth a try because earlier last week, I went through the trouble of flashing a bunch of different radios, reading through a bunch of fixes only to find out that other people in my area couldn't get 4G to sign on either. So it turned out that it was an issue with Sprint itself. Had to go one week without 4G but now its back on and its faster than before.

yes that is the problem i was going through, but at certain times on DamageControl it would start to work if i got lucky and got the right Wimax to work

super user does not automatically do anything. it simply provides /system access to those applications that require it.
if you applied either the leaked or the official froyo update that was not modified to maintain root access, you are out of luck for the time being.

That was the exact same problem I had on my phone. It turns out that 4G was just down in the area. I even went through the trouble of reflashing my wimax radios. What city are you in right now? I can try to search other forums to see if there are others in your area experiencing the same issues.
What you can do if you are still restless, run ADB and run wimax_mtd, you can either use ADB or you can also download Terminal Emulator from the market.
then type
su
wimax_mtd
Go through it and check to see if your wimax mac address is still correct by verifying it with the address you have underneath the battery.
Next would be to check if your user login info is still correct. It should be [email protected] I believe you can check this in the data settings. Just dial ##data#, you might need your MSL, but I think you can still go into view mode without the MSL. Im not really the best at explaining things in detail if any of this dont make sense, feel free to msg me. I'm fairly new but I do know how it felt to have 4G stop working all of a sudden.
Also I believe if you updated your wimax, your base rom must match for it to work. Such as the wimax from the 1.47 ota, you must be running a 1.47 base rom.
I assumed that you still had root. If you are not rooted, you are out of luck. You will need to root your phone before using the method. If you are on 2.2 without root, you are completely out of luck.
Using the whitslack method will not root/unlock nand for you -- it simply will update your phone to 1.47 with the corresponding radios.

If you ran the first part of Whitslack's method (putting the PC36IMG on your SD card and running it in bootloader) just do the second part (putting the superuser.apk on your SD card and flashing it in custom recovery) and you will have full root again.

Rom Manager?
Update for our convo*
Ok just re got rom manager, and flashed Clockwork, so my root is still there
Actually I used whitslacks method and I did retain root. Since his pc136img contains the Dev hboot all I had to do was just as his thread says flash the superuser zip when you are done

If you are running the latest radios and wimax radio I would flash one of the newer 2.2 froyo roms.

Hi,
Are the Telstra Desire able to work with the newest 5.09 Radio?
is 3g internet and everything else still working after the update is applied? Will a SIMlock occur?
What are the advantages with this update?
Can we go back to previous radios by simply reflashing the radio?
I'm looking at Flashing a Froyo ROM and want to make sure that I don't brick my Desire in trying to do so.
Thanks
Mine's been working perfectly fine on the new Radio and Official Froyo (Without hboot) using nickiberli's ROM since about 30 minutes after it was uploaded.
I've been backwards and forwards and all over the place using other ROMs too, and have always been able to RUU flash it back to the stock Telstra 2.1 and re-root from scratch.
BTW: No SIMLock, and 3G/Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth all work as they did pre-2.2 and the new radio.
Sounds good. Which version of the Radio did you use?
Do you know if there are problems accessing the Telstra web pages and checking your accounts online as I have read that it may not work due to not having the useragent string?
Thanks for your help

Unless your phone is rooted you should be fine. There is a fix on the Modaco forums to replace the user strings in custom roms with the correct Telstra ones.
I can't confirm if it works as I've never used it (can't stand the Telstra crapware myself) but would be worth a shot
EDIT: Almost forgot, I'm currently using 5.09.00.20. 5.08.00.04 also worked fine.

The Telstra Strings I only need for online billing, otherwise just accessing the telstra website apparently charges.
Are there problems if you have or are planning to Root the phone? Currently it is not rooted, but if i try going to a FROYO ROM i will need to. Will this cause problems?
Thanks

I use 5.09.00.20 as well with no hassles.
Personally I don't care about the Telstra web pages as I use none of them, so I wouldn't know (I even removed all links and references to them in my stock ROM via ADB). I'm assuming they won't work due to said useragent string missing.
Otherwise, as Stewage says, there's a fix floating around somewhere for it if it's that important to you.

The problem that arises is basically just the useragent string not being in non-Telstra ROMs (Which you'll be using if you root and install Froyo). At least this is the impression I get, I haven't had ANY issues otherwise, and I've been rooted since about 3 days after I got the phone.
ok...
So if i flash the Radio to 5.09 then root, then flash to FROYO i shouldn't have any problems other than anything that deals with Telstra and needing to update APN
Found this rom over on the modaco forums:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/314372/telstramod2-2-2-sense-720p/
Looks like it's based on Leedroid and Pauls roms (both Froyo) and with the Telstra strings modded in. I'd give that a crack to see if your Telstra stuff still works
yeah im using the latest radio from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
and the latest opendesire rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712615
works fine!
you can still check your usage without the strings, just means it will count towards your data usage instead of being unmetered, but really not that big of a deal unless you're signed up to the foxtel mobile crap
OK.
One final thing. When you flash the radio do you have to use Paul's R5 tools, or can you use ROM Manager (Clockwork) to flash the radio?
Thanks
P.S. Sorry for asking all the N00b questions
There is a custome leedroid Telstra specific mod available here:

You can use clockworkmod or Amon RA recovery to flash the radio the same way you flash the custom roms
not sure if i am resurrecting a dead thread, but i thought it would be worthwhile getting the opinions of people with the Telstra Desire (A8183 model) on what radios are best for making sure that we get on the 850mhz (NextG) rather than the crappy 2100mhz (3Telstra) band... I noticed that my phone spends more time on 3Telstra than my wife's does as her phone has the Telstra Rom on it (presume that means that radio and RIL too) and so her phone gets speeds about 400kb/s while mine sits next to it getting 100kb/s...
Any ideas??
So, I previously had an optimus v, which is like the easiest phone to root and get roms for and what not. Well i was hoping that the One V would be the same, it was not.
So I tried to install some rom that i liked after going through the unlocking and rooting process, and it had a restarting problem where every 5-15 seconds after it would boot it would restart. I found a solution (kind of) to that but most of the links where dead so i had to find them on my own. It led me to putting a custom kernel on it and that did not fix it, so i saw something that getting the OTA update that came out a while ago could cause this, and the only way to return it was to use RUU (i still had a custom kernel at this point, i think) so i got the (hopefully) correct recovery.img from RUU and i flashed that and the next step is to relock the device, so i did via command prompt, and i started RUU up again and it was doing its thing and ended in an error 155. I have tried several times and it has still not worked. I found some stuff saying that the HBOOT i have which is 1.57 doesnt have a supported RUU or something to that effect ( i found lots of conflicting information).
So now i am stuck with a phone that only goes to the bootloader menu and because its relocked i cant flash anything to it.
I have tried fastboot oem unlock and that came up with a command error, and everything else i try to flash just fails.
Any help is welcome and a thank you in advance to anyone that helps.

You should be able to flash a stock RUU for your device while it's in the bootloader menu from here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=Primo
make sure to download the correct RUU for your carrier/radio band and if its GSM (PRIMOU) or CDMA (PRIMOC), or you can screw it up more.
What network carrier are you with?
EDIT:, Just re-read your post, sorry. I don't know if anyone has posted a RUU for the updated radio, that Virgin Mobile released, you may need to get ahold of Football on this forum and see if he's still helping find/sell RUU's that you need.
Back in the day I had to get ahold of him to get the RUU for my phone that wasn't listed on any RUU site.

I paid like $13 for mine, but it gave me piece of mind should the phone ever soft brick or hard brick with boot, that I can recover it and not lose a phone. I don't know if he's even around anymore, but I posted a thread in general asking if he was. I am on Alltel, but one of my family members bought an HTC One V with the updated radio, so for her I couldn't do anything but root. I know there are a few new radio friendly ROM's in the CDMA section of this forum that would of boot with a custom rom and the kernel.

Be sure to flash an OTA-compatible ROM. Try RhythmicROM or CyanPrimo, both of which I've used for a long time and can attest that they are better HTC One V ROMs.

I never tried to go back to stock, I'm running rhythmic ROM, can't link right now but it seems to work pretty well, its slightly faster than stock when all my stuff is on there and the only problem so far is sometimes when you lock the device and then quickly unlock it then it will freeze and restart.

Yeah, make sure you find the right version for your radio, virgin mobile made a terrible move by updating it so you cant do much with it.
Or kernel or something, anyways mine was v5.2 and it was a pain, i think there was a lot more kernels available for older versions.
Best of luck, and if you are having problems with authentication then try using WPS, in some cases it fixes those types of problems.
ok, i know this info is on here, and im not totally illiterate to this stuff. have found and flashed roms in past. im fried tho after two days of digging. so...i have a couple questions.
sgh-i747 U.S. ATT version. locked but using straight talk 4glte sim. 4.4.2. but still on the NE4 baseband. i wanted to update to the nj1 to test the modem and see if i could get a little better reception at home. some have stated its a pretty good increase. depends on where you live, i get that. but where i live im lucky if i get 4g. usually edge 3g. yes my apn is correct. where the heck is the zip download so i can flash without using computer? cannot find nj1 anywhere. not even for pc. i would love a working link that i can download to phone and flash via clockwork or twrp. obviously i missed something so please spare me the burns. the headache i have from 12 hours of digging is pain enough.
also ran into a head scratcher. downloaded root checker basic, in prep for rooting, and had it check, even tho i had not rooted at all yet. and..somehow my phone is rooted? or so it says. how the heck is that? did a full cache wipe and factory reset from recovery mode last night, and have not even attempted root yet. phone bought used but got from original owner who has no idea what root is. i called them to ask. ideas?

Not sure if this helps but here is the NJ1 bootloader and modem from the General Section of this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/general/rooted-ucufnj1-stock-rom-t2985006
To check root, you could also Install a program that requires root access such as Titanium Backup.
Is the warranty bit still at 0 in download mode?
I did try that one but after flashing i lost wifi. ended up figuring everything out and flashed slimkat 4.4.2. great build. thanks for the reply tho.
