Hey guys,
I did some searching and couldn't seem to find a "Phase Beam" Live Wallpaper STILL image. I like the design of it, but don't care for the live wallpaper aspect. Any way I can get a HD image from the live wallpaper? Thanks in advance.

don't think theres any way to do it. closest thing would be a launcher that removes the statusbar and is totally blank and someone just takes a screen shot, but then you'd also need a custom launcher since you'd need to set no scrolling to get it to work.
Found one:

and i'll just shut up now lol.
only downside to that is that it's a little small for the Gnex. our wallpapers need to be minimum smallest size 1200. thats 960. so you may notice some loss in quality. or possibly not. the advantage of the high DPI sometimes makes low resolution images still look good on the screen.
Shouldn't our wallpapers be 1280x720 or 1200x720 at least?

i've seen many people say that if you want the best quality you need 1200+ on all sides.
possibly something to do with how android crops it. I've yet to try anything below 1200.
keep in mind, that though the actual on screen resolution is 720 wide by 1280 high, the real wallpaper resolution is 1480 wide by 1280 high because of how android handles wallpapers. so anything smaller will be lower quality.

I did not know that. Thanks for clarifying though.
Edit: Wait, did you get those mixed up? Shouldn't it be 1480x1280? Not 1280x1480.
You see, I only have one homescreen. So, I don't know if that matters. There obviously isn't any wallpaper scrolling.

yeah probably.
height should be 1280 and width should be 1480.
even if you have one homescreen, android still wants to crop a square wallpaper. thats been the issue since the G1. so if you want a portrait image, you need to use a third party app.
now, if your using a custom launcher then thats another story, as some when you disable wallpaper scrolling it gives you a crop for a single screen.

Ive got this beautiful wallpaper here that I want to use with MattedBlue setup I am working on but I cant get over the blurry the picture quality looks on my phone. Is it possible to improve the quality for picture? Any knowledge anybody can drop on me would be much appreciated!
use wallpaper set and save from the market to set wallpapers at full res instead of having to crop
Thanks Success. I actually do not have to crop this picture at all... the dimensions are perfect so WSS didnt make much difference. So I guess there is no way to improve image quality?

It's because that wallpaper has a gradient which is made up of more colors than the 65k the EVO screen can handle..
Yes, WSS is better than the N1 3D Gallery app and better than the Sense Gallery app, but there's still a hardware limitation, unfortunately.
I've compared some of my wallpapers on my EVO to one of my friend's PalmPre and another friend's Epic 4G and I was blown away.
Some people say they can't see the difference.
I work with graphics all day so I notice all the banding and lack of colors and everything else.
Nonetheless, the EVO screen is still excellent, color capacity notwithstanding.

Thanks for, not many good ones there though.
Anyone know where can good wallpapers for our Nexus, the default ones are poor.
Could anyone tell me the wallpaper size for the Galaxy Nexus? And maybe post up some good ones/links to good sites for HD wallpapers?
Cheers
I'm looking for a plain black one in case anyone can point me to one already made. I heard a black wall paper helps conserve battery power.
I'm just trying some wallpapers at the moment, and it's as annoying as trying to find one that fits well for a honeycomb tablet :/
And yeh with SAMOLED screens, darker uses less battery.

It seems like the existing wall papers have a size of 960 x 853 pixels.
I created this plain black wallpaper.

I don't know why the stock Wallpapers were released at that Res as they have to be upscaled to fit. Wallpapers for Native Res will be 1440x1280 if you want nice crisp HD.

If I want a basic plain all-black wall paper, what format should I save it as? I know jpg works, but is there maybe a format that uses up less resources?

Plain black png will be considerably smaller I'd imagine.
I made a couple of fractal based wallpapers at 1440 x 1280, both using a black background. The second one is fairly dark, for those who want to conserve their battery without going completely black.

I don't think thats correct. It's a 720 screen so the native resolution would be 1280x720 (widescreen)

The resolution on one screen would be 720x1280. Across five screens it's 1440x1280.
The same as the old standard being 480x800 vs 960x800.
So I of course love the 720p HD resolution on my SGN, however it drives me NUTS how many things appear to be extremely small- text in many apps, certain buttons in certain apps (e.g. the top navigation button in official Twitter app), notifications in top of the tray, etc.
I know you can adjust the size of system font but it doesn't impact all apps and doesn't impact notification tray icons, app UI elements, etc.
Does this bother anyone else? Has anyone tinkered with adjusting density via an app or build.prop? Any feedback? My concern is that doing this often causes negative impacts in certain UI elements...
Things aren't small enough at all. I couldn't disagree more. Seems like the high res is almost a waste.

Hmm interesting.... maybe it's because I'm coming from SGS2 in which everything was much larger due to the lower resolution being scaled/stretched up to fit the massive 4.52" screen. I know it leads to poorer rendering and pixelation, but was never really that noticeable (until placed side by side with my SGN).
Would still love any feedback if anyone has toyed with density...
You have to also take into account many apps aren't created for ICS. I feel some display elements may have changed from GB to ICS for phones
I think you're right in that you are just use to seeing a small resolution on a big screen and aren't use to the HD display.
Accessibility -> Large Text is always an option for those aging owners
lol...i wonder what the op would say to the fact that i use 240 dpi instead of the stock 320. my launcher is 6x6 w/search and my app drawer is 7x6. i find the stock 320 very big and a complete waste of the resolution.
ps-reduce google books font size to the minimum, you would be surprised at how tiny it gets, even more surprised at the fact that it is still crystal clear to your eye. the resolution is truly amazing!!

I agree completely. There was actually a comparison on Android Police and the galaxy nexus showed less on screen than the atrix, despite it being higher resolution and a larger screen. Everything is way too big on the nexus and it's a huge waste of screen space.

I agree. Not understandable how they could get to this...
Try using 240dpi like myself instead of 320dpi .
always wondered this about amoled devices. my battery life doesnt suck but imagine being able to turn off half your pixels. and still do phone related stuff. or customize and black out the top quarter of your screen. im not a programmer. if I was I would try to figure this out myself. thanks. if this were never possible to change I wouldnt be interested. for the most part I like having all the screen.but would be handy to implement at 10% batt level for example
No. You can't change resolution.
You can have a minimal set up and use black or no wallpapers.
As far as resolution no you can't change it.
If you could I'd set my S3 to full 1080p

I think you didnt understsnd the question. of course you csnt change the physical hardware. but if you made half the screen black thus halving your resolution. sorry if using wrong terminology

It wouldn't half your resolution lol
And I don't think there is an app or anything at the moment (at least to my knowledge) that would make it seem like your device is a certain resolution and display only those pixels on the given resolution and have the rest of the screen off...
It would be pointless, as soon as you'd open up an app all the screen would be used again. Unless there is special settings in AOSP ROMs in the dev settings that allow that, you're out of luck.
And why waste a screen this size to have off??
If you're having battery problems
Flash different kernels
Modify settings
And use Greenify app, its very useful.

ok so imagine screen is 1000 x 600 for simplicity. make top half black. now resolution is 500 x 600. thats what I mean. or if you had a black border arund edge of screen 10 pixel wide your screen would now display a 980 x 580 resolution
otherwise nevermind. like I said not a developer. not having battery issues.
Thread cleaned of the back and forth "one-up" stuff.
Seems to be a straightforward question, let's see if we can answer it --- and let's try to be considerate of one another, as it is a requirement of XDA posting rules.
If you cannot do that, then go somewhere else with the negative spirit, we are here to learn from each other and exchange ideas, not trash each other when we don't like or get the answer we need.
I've been looking for a new bootanimation for my Xperia Z for some time now, but I can't find one with the right resolution...
Can anyone make some for 1080 x 1920 resolution?
I guess I'm not the only one wanting something new!

My experience with 1080x1920 BA's has been hit or miss as far as them playing smooth. I've been using 720x1280 ones. They look great and play flawless.
Ps. When I do the 720x1280 ones, I edit the desc.txt and change the resolution to 1080x1920. So, it's using 720x1280 images, but playing them full screen.

Quality's just fine IMO. I mean, it's only a 5 inch screen. Most people can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 42+" TV from only a few feet away. 720p images stretched to 1080p on a 5" screen, the likelihood of noticing any artificating or anything is pretty slim. Now, if you were to just grab one of the BA's apps in the play store and try to use ones from that, you'd be lucky to find a phone model one over 480x800, so those will probably look like crap.
Also, you can use much higher quality images and play the animation smooth when they're 720x1280; however, when you have the images at 1080x1920 you really have to sacrifice the quality of each from to get the file size down. . . and it's still rough getting it to play smooth.

Ironically, I spent the better part of Q1 of this year working on boot animations and optimizing them for work. So this is stuff I learned on the job.
