HTC Evo Gingerbread update question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got an HTC evo from cellular trendz, and i tryed to update it to the new upgrade but it says there is no updrage available. Im on V 2.2 right now?
Should i just root my phone to get it or is there another way around it?

bumping this, still not updating for me

Just root the evo, then you can flash any froyo/gingerbread/ICS rom you want.

My phone works fine, no need to root it right now.
My main problem with rooting is that the GPS wont work

Rooting doesn't break gps
Sent from my Synergized Evo with aggressive Freedom using the XDA app

Absolutely no need for him to root if he doesn't want to.
Are you sure the phone is running on the sprint network? If so, it should definitely find the 2.3 update when you go to update HTC software. If not, you can always download a stock RUU and run that.

I tried downloding the stock and flashing that through recovery.iu...but it says my device is not recognized? My phone is activated through sprint and everything on the phone works fine

Rooted my samsung moment, actually all 3 of them and the GPS stopped working on me.
I rooted the EVO last night, put the new OTA 2.3.3 Gingerbread on it.

Never occurred to you that the Moment and the Evo are two different phones?? lol
Should have used my ROM on the Moment. GPS worked fine

Just rooted but went from 2.2 to 2.1

I just did the root, nand, and radio
However I didn't know that I was going back to 2.1
What are the cons of 2.1 vs 2.2 and how long usually before there is an updated rooted 2.2?
Thanks
2.2 is out officially??? Where/how can I/we get it?
It just automatically downloaded when I got my phone yesterday. Now I'm wondering if I should go back and update and wait then re root later or just wait.
Are you sure you had 2.2? Where did you get your phone? What is your hardware version?
Positive I had it. I got it at walmart yesterday. As soon as I activated it downloaded like three updates.
I was using flash etc.

Flash lite?
Flash works with 2.1 also (at least on the evo)
I'm not really sure. I just know it said 2.2 and not 2.1.
also my hardware is 2.2
I wish I would've known I would've backed up before rooting. I didn't see any reason since the phone was new with nothing on it.
I just checked and it said no updates available.
So in order to go back to stock all I have to do is reflash with the stock rom. Just throw it on sd and flash as normal?

Just flash RUU from your computer.
Settings > About > Hardware, your Hardware Version is 2.2, NOT 002 or 003?
no its 002 sorry running on two hours of sleep here.
Ok i'm going to try to go back to stock then upgrade.
at least I know I can root it again. maybe faster next time too.
well I unrooted and got some prl updates but no firmware
here goes
Take the battery out of the for about 5 sec then put the battery back in and go in to recovery and try reflashing the rom that work for me
One of three things happened..
You are either have a nexus one and are in the wrong forum..
Are mistaken that you had 2.2 prior to root..
Or you're just trying to mess with everyone..
2.2 is not out in any way officially on any HTC phone, so you couldn't have had it. And no, you couldn't have been the only person in the country to have accidentally gotten it somehow.

[Q] My Tmobile G2 new update can perm root?

Just received my G2 from Tmobile yesterday, turned on the phone and there was a notifaction saying there is a new version that has Wifi calling and many more fixes. My question is that will I be albe to perm root my G2 now after I updated? Thank you
Yes you will be able to perm root w/o a problem. Go to the G2 android development sections and all your answers are already there
should i get the update from tmobile after getting root
i rooted first since it was easy and now i get a notification saying i got an update is it ok to update thanks in advance
You can root and go straight to a custom rom that takes those fixes and much much more. I recommend CM or Enom's for functionality or virtuous for aesthetics.

I received a new G2 last week, applied the OTA update for wifi calling, and then successfully perma-rooted using the wiki. Took about an hour to go from stock to CM 6.1.1 and overclocked to 1.51Ghz.

But assuming that's the original T-Mo OTA (and I've seen nothing to suggest there's a new one) then it's safe to install the OTA and simply re-root.
You are correct, of course, that folks should stay clear of future OTAs if they are rooted though, till they've been checked by the devs - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875099

Yeah, I think it just threw some people off with the idea of an ota on a new device. It's still the same ole 1st ota for the G2 unfortunately. Nothing to rip out or borrow...
weird that it didn't come with the ota already on the device but since android, ota's haven't been flashed on the device. nevermind, I thinking of the old wm devices... I'm a bit tired.

[Q] GPS Problem after in-store gingerbread 2.3.4 upgrade

I recently received the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update on my T-Mobile G2 at my local T-Mobile store via SD card. As far as I can tell, everything is fine except for the GPS problem with not able to lock on. From what I can tell from reading other threads, it is similar to the problem people are having after first flashing CM7.
A little background: I am a complete noob when it comes to tinkering with my phone (taking screenshots with it was probably the most adventurous thing I've done to date). I don't really have a need to root my phone, but I haven't been able to find any threads that deal with the GPS issue with an unrooted phone. So if I have to root it to fix it, I guess I will, but I really don't want to go through with it unless I have to.
QUESTIONS:
- Is anyone else experiencing the GPS issue with an unrooted G2 or Desire Z?
- Other than calling up T-Mobile, is rooting the only way to fix the GPS issue? If so, will a temp root suffice, or will it have to be a perm root?
- If the temp root will do the trick, is there a need to downgrade to stock Froyo like you would for a perm root?
Thank you in advance for your help!
As far as I know, getting the 2.3 OTA update or getting the Gingerbread update from T-Mobile will lock your phone for permanent rooting. And you can't downgrade to Froyo 2.2.
It looks like you will have to wait until someon have invented a new hack or metode to root G2 with gingerbread installed.
Or just do a factory reset. I don't think they will have a bug in the new gingerbread update, the problem may be in the software in your phone.. you have to much garbage installed on it ... just do a hard reset,, if it doesn't work you and you want your old Froyo than you have to wait until someone hacks gingerbread for rooting ..
My Desire Z is seemingly having problems connecting after the OTA Gingerbread update. I didn't fully test it, cause I only tried it once after the update, when I was navigating to a place (and so, maybe not having a problem). But that once was unusually slow. I'm adding it to my list of problems to tell the service center! BTW, I can root my Gingerbread DZ, right?
G2 GPS not aquiring signal never rooted

I am also having this problem. I purchased the phone and i think the OTA update was already installed.
I did a hard reset but it did not correct the problem ( it will not lock onto a sat)
Is there a work around yet? (hack for gingerbread rooting?)
here is my specs:
T-Mobile g2
Android Ver 2.3.4
Base band ver: 12.62.60.27u_26.13.04.19_m
kernel ver: 2.6.35.10-g96de068
[email protected] 18-2#1
Build:2.16.531.5 cl159515 release keys
Anyone help me as I cannot get GPS to work
I am a noob but did successfully root my old g1
You can downgrade stock Gingerbread then root, then install custom ROM using this guide
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Rooting
This is basically THE guide if you're on stock.
Did this on my phone 2 weeks ago from stock Gingerbread OTA and now running ISC (Icecream JIBwich 1.2 port) happily with GPS works flawlessly.
Fasterfix app works, too. I'm running andromadus 12 and the latest tmobile radio. I upgraded radios when using mexdroid and that made gps lock perfect. But when I switched roms fasterfix got me the 2 sec lock I was looking for.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I took mine in for an in-store, unrooted and my entire screen stopped working. Had to get me a new phone. Seems like the in-store updates aren't so great?

[Q]Wifi wont work after root

I used Samsung GS3 Toolkit to root my phone and now my wifi wont turn on. I do believe I know what problem is and am wondering best way to fix. I could not find my build so I used 4.1.1 instead. Well I had just got OTA to finally work to install 4.1.2 before and thought I would try it anyway. Today I found the update for the toolkit and tried to flash it and still no wifi. I am probably not doing something right in procedure. Any ideas?

Ask in your forum. Or flash another rom.

Noob Attempting Root

I have a Verizon HTC One and I cannot seem to root it. All the programs I have used to unlock the bootloader have failed. I tried rumrunner and kingo. im on Hboot 1.55 and 4.3
Completely stock. this is my first time attempting anything root related.
CWM?
Do you have Clockwork mod installed? JDK or Android SDK installed?

There is no method for unlocking the current 4.3 update. You're just going to have to wait for now.

SOB I just got my HTC one yesterday and I let it update to 4.3 after 8 hours after purchase!
I need this thing rooted to use ARliberator on my pioneer app2radio2.
After update though my internet connectivity seems to be messed up. I get random times where the data upload / down seems to do nothing, no streaming, Facebook, webpages with a full 4g signal that never had issues on my galaxy S3. They swapped my SIM card but still having issues.
I may take it back and return for another but verify it's not on 4.3.

It is a little bit of a late reply, but that is one of the reasons I returned mine. My new one comes in tomorrow and will likely have 4.2.2 on it. Mine as well replace it so you can get root too
