XDA2s and MS Voice Command 1.5

Hi all,
Does the XDA2s and Microsofts Voice Command work on a XDA2s?
I'm not English, but I'm sure my English is good enought!
Whenever I give a voice command I get a "please repeate" error..
I think it's something with the mic gain, but where and how do I set it lower? Enabling/Disabling the Microphone AGC settings did not really help!
Any suggestions?

You should rather forget about this application. I tried to use it but with no success, exactly like you. Then I tried other applications (with the same result) and finally I followed suggestions from this forum: Neuvoice - it works and it's cheap.

Looks nice the Neuvoice. To bad there is no demo to test it 1st

Yes there is a demo version, just download the full version from somewhere and it works as demo until you purchase the unlock code (as far as I can remember - but I'm not 100% sure - so you should by yourself)

XDA IIs Fonix Application
I have just received my XDAIIs upgrade from an XDA II and it comes complete with Fonix Voice Dial. It automatically records test voices against your contacts (name number) and then you can call it up any time. You can also record your own voice which makes it more efficient. It also works with bluetooth. It seems an OK applicaiton to me.
Is this what you have been talking about? :lol:

In a quiet environment, it really doesn't have any problems with recognizing my commands. As long as you don't have a terrible English accent. However, you can forget about if you are in a loud environment though.

well, I have to say MS Voice Command works great for me. 95% hit rate on about 1000 contacts in my xdaIIs. Even in the car. Far better that V1.01. A couple of tips from my experienece with it.
1. Make sure the microphone auto gain is "disabled"
2. If it initially has problems and hit rate is very low, a soft reset usually sorts it out
3. Map the "record" button to Voice Command for easier access.
4. If your car is noisy, use a wired head set while driving. (I have not been able to get the bluetooth voice dialing to work at this point)

Hmmm... With none of the Voice dial programs I've been able to get the bluetooth to work.. Not sure if it's the bluetooth unit itself, or if it's some ROM version thingy...
The BT headset is a SE HBH-600. The XDA2s is with ROM version 1.12.62 WWE and radio version 1.02.00.
Can/will this work with bluetooth voice dialing??

No, sorry, I have not been able to make it work. I think its still an issue with the implementation of the BT stack (in this case the Widcomm stack) on the HTC devices. I can establish a connect from my headset to the device, but does not "link up" with voice dialing.
I now use a regular noise cancelling wired headset in the car, via an adapter plug sold by PockPCTechs (www.pocketpctechs.com) Other wise just use the phone mic to initiate a voice command dialed call

I was going to ask how well this works?
I'm getting a BT car kit fitted literally in the next hour and was hoping I'd be able to voice dial like I could my old Nokia, while driving.

I am using
O2 xda2s with microsoft voice software
I have a fairly noisy sports car but it works well..
I have the voice mapped to contacts button so one press and direct voice towards pda and no botha.... about 95% hit rate on 200 contacts..
I must add it has only been that good since buying a brodgit car cradle so it positioned well.. obviously you have to turn stereo off
the only complaint i have with it is that when the voice speaks back to you to confirm what you have said I cant hear it very well..
does anyone know of any settings to improve audio levels..

Hi Guys
I have upgraded my 'Voice Command' handsfree solution as follows.
1. Added an FM 'Sound Feeder' from Pocketpctechs, that connects to the xda via one of 2 different pocketpctechs audio adaptors.
2. Tune the radio to one of the 8 frequencies supported by the Sound Feeder and the xda then plays all audio output through the car stereo system. This works for all apps, including my Navman GPS and Media Player!. I also mapped a button (I used the record button) to Voice Command, so one press activates VC and I can initiate a call by voice from there.
The really nice thing about this arrangement is that if i have media player running through the system, and a call comes in, the music mutes automatically, the phone rings, and i can take the call. When you end the call, media player picks right up again!
3. For the microphone part, there are 2 options:
a. The one I am using right now, is to use the pocketpctech 'single' adaptor, that allows sound to play through the stereo, while keeping the mic of the xda active. This means the xda picks up your voice directly for voice command and telecons, while at the same time playing the sound you normally hear via headphones, through the stereo. This works great for the incoming voice, although you need to talk fairly loudly for the party calling to hear you well. Decent enough though...
b. The upgrade I will make this weekend is to use the 'dual' pocketpctechs adaptor. This one accepts the soundfeeder on one side, plus a regular 2.5mm heasdset on the other. This one disables the internal xda mic, and allows you to use the mic from the headset. So I plan to permantly position this mic (after cutting off the ear bud!) on the door pillar as in normal car hands free installs. This should improve the outbound sound a good bit....

In the end, the Parrot CK3100 car kit has its own built in voice recognition, so I have no worries

Great! I looked at the Parrot a while back. How much was it? Work ok?

Well, I've not really had chance to test it properly yet, seems to be good. Cost me £180 to have it fitted, the old one removed and a bit of extra power wired in for my GPS & PDA.

Voice control Bluetooth motor intercom?

Hi everybody,
Hope that someone can help me here with the following:
On my motorbike I have an (Starcom1) motor intercom.
I can speak to the passenger, listen to navigation, listen to music and talk to another motorbike. All fine.
Now I use (of course) WM6 devices. Currently the HTC Cruise.
Before I had it set up via my Garmin Navigator, phone rings, number appears on screen and I can decide to pickup or not.
Problem was that on short rides, it is too much hassle to put the navigator on all the time and I hoped to find a better way to still recieve phonecalls.
SO I paired my phone straight to the Bluetooth box on my Starcom.
The problem is that, according to Starcom, my phone needs to be in autoanswerring mode to be able to use it.
Of course this works but is not exactly what I have in mind. Now it is on autoanswer alll the time or I have to go through long menu's to switch it on and off, if I get away from the bike.
I see two options but have not found a solution:
There is some kind of 'connecting' profile system thats switches to autoanswer when it detects a BT headset or special device.
Use voice commands but I have found I always need to press the button to be able to use this. Would there be a method to answer a call without touching the phone in my pocket?
Please give me your thoughts and suggestions.

How to prevent phonebook transfer to car over BT?

My car is a BMW that has bluetooth phone integration. This basically lets the car's built in speakers and mic act as a super expensive BT headset for your phone. I like this feature.
However, the phone also downloads the phones contact list over BT as well, so it can display it on the navigation screen in a scrolling list. While this feature is well-intentioned, and sounds like a good idea at first, it is problematic for two reasons:
1) it downloads the entire contact list and there is no settings on the car side to make it download a subset or not to download at all.
The problem with this is that the list of contacts becomes so long that it's useless to use because to get to a name at the end of the list, you would be scrolling for 5 minutes. For this reason, I've given up on dialing through the nav screen interface and just dial the call on the phone and use the car as a dumb BT headset.
2) while downloading the contact list, my TP2 gets so busy that it barely responds to any screen or button presses.
since the download takes about 5 minutes and takes place automatically when you start the car and have BT turned-on on the phone, this means that if a call comes in within the first 5 minutes of starting your car, you can't answer it because the answer slider won't respond and neither will the answer button. using the car's onscreen "answer call" control doesn't work either.
in one particularly infuriating scenario, i left a restaurant after having dinner with some out of town relatives and my mom. they were going to go home and i was going to run an errand in the opposite direction but, being unfamiliar with the area, they followed me out of the parking lot. i immediately started trying to call my mom to tell them to turn around but since the phone was locked up doing the download, they ended up following me basically to the next freeway exit 5 miles away while i was furiously pushing buttons and tapping all over the screen trying to make a call. I was already at my destination before the phone get decongested and I got through to them.
anyhow, i had problem #1 with my HTC XV6800 mogul and worked around it by just ignoring the car's screen dialing interface. the contact download never locked up the phone. however, with my new TP2, I have to deal with the phone being unavailable for 5 minutes every time I start the car, which is more of a problem. i don't know why the TP2 gets locked up this way when the mogul didn't. It's even more frustrating because it is doing this for a feature I don't even use. (actually, i should say that I am not sure that it is the contacts transfer that causes the lock-up, but that’s the best explanation I can think of for now)
So my question is: is there any way or setting to turn off transfer of contacts to a BT device? or even better would be a way to limit the contacts transferred to a group or category that I could define for frequently used contacts?

any ideas? maybe a registry setting?

It sounds more like a problem with the BMW. AFAIK the phonebook transfer is requested by the head unit, so maybe the BMW is asking every time you turn it on
I have a Blaupunkt head unit that also downloads the phonebook but it only asks for it once when the phone is first paired with it. I have heard of people having some problems if they pair the HU with the phone rather than the other way round.
re the contacts list, do you have some kind of keypad on the HU? If so try typing the first few characters of the cantact name

I know the problem is with the BMW, but it's less likely that i can change that side of the problem than the phone side. The BMW definitely does not store the phonebook. i think there is very limited local storage on board, or they don't want to deal with synchronization issues.
There is a letter jump function, but since it also breaks out every phone number for a person into multiple lines. eg:
john smith (H)
john smith (C)
john smith (W)
then there is still a lot of scrolling.
anyhow, does anybody know of any such thing as a registry setting like (made up example) "HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\BT\AllowPhonebookTransfer: Yes"

Beeping on loss of signal.

Afternoon all. As with most of us I use the Desire as an integrated MP3/SatNav etc while on the road. The problem I'm having while listening to music via a bluetooth headset is an irritating series of beeps every time the phone loses signal - quite a common occurrence when in a rural area - and I'd like to turn off the audible notification. Can't see anything in settings though, any suggestions as to how to do this?
Also been noticing that when using CoPilot the first half of the voice prompt is missed, almost like its taking half a second or so to engage with the bluetooth. Is this common with all wireless head sets or just the cheap "Clip" unit I'm currently using?

I can confirm that I also have this, the instruction will be played fully by the speakers on the phone but only get half the instruction (at times) via the Bluetooth Headset although sometimes you get the full instruction through it...

Not sure if helps... I realised the phone volume and media volume are separate! If you put the phone on silent - you can still listen to media such as music and videos. Maybe you could silence the phone (and get rid of that beep) but still enjoy your music.
Just an idea to try...
By the way - the above can be annoying if you need your phone quiet but accidentally turn on any media.... lol!

Ah well, I'd hoped it was the cheap head set but obviously not.

Galaxy S2 with Parrot MKi9200 Handsfree

OK, first post here, but I think it's a useful one!!
Collected a Galaxy S2 on Monday night from the 3 store in the Trafford Centre. Absolutely love it!, fantastic handset.
Or so I thought until last night.....
This was the only bugbear/issue that the phone gave me and gave me no end of grief; I paired it with my Parrot 9200 Car Kit, as with any other phone. All seemed to be well.
That was until I tried to make a call. When I pressed the green button on the handsfree to initiate voice dialling, android launched the "Voice Commands" program, which tried to take over. Unfortunately, the voice commands program required a little bit of interaction with the phone, and wasn't particularly accurate over bluetooth.
Tried deleting and re-pairing, turning off voice commands over bluetooth, which just bypassed the hands free mic, to the handset!!. Grief grief grief.
OK, I thought, I'll just manually select the numbers on the car kit. A bit of a ballache, but it'll do!
Wrong, the phonebook hadn't downloaded, and no amount of tweaking the car kit or the phone could sort it.
There was very limited info on this, hence the reason for this post!
After much googling, I found that the latest version of the Parrot firmware had an additional pairing setting; "Force AT Sync".
So, car kit updated with the latest firmware from the Parrot website, on the car kit, I navigated to Settings>Bluetooth Settings> Pair With> Force AT Sync. (This is at the bottom of the list of phones that the kit "knows" about by default.
Seconds later, my phone was requesting permission for the car kit to access the phone book, and syncing away nicely.
No more voice commands software, and the Parrot kit is working as it should, completely hands free!

Does it work?

Yep, works really well.
Phone calls are very clear for both parties and (to me at least) the bluetooth music sound quality is really good. It's not a top of the line speaker system but it's clear and the volume is adequate.
It cuts in with the sat nav directions nicely. I had a bluetooth headunit before and if I had the phone connected the directions wouldn't interrupt a cd or radio. This works just fine, even if I'm listening to the radio through the stereo, the directions still come through.
I've not tried using the other sound connections yet, iPod, USB stick, aux jack or SD Card. I'll try them all over the next couple of days.
I'm thinking about taking the SD card out of the phone and using that way as it only lets you move the tracks foreward and backwards on a playlist or album if you use bluetooth. You have to use the phone to select another artist or album etc. Also, an SD card would let you see the album art and display the track details on the Parrot screen.
The only thing that isn't working correctly at present is that the remote won't skip tracks if the music player isn't displayed on the phone. If I have the sat nav screen up the track forward and backward keys are ignored.
I'm just going out to update the software though so this might fix that.
Anything else you need to know?

Right, I've updated the software which was really painless.
The sat nav stopping the track controls from working only happens in Co Pilot, not in Google Navigation.
I tried using my SD card from my phone in holder and it didn't seem to pick it up. I might need to leave it in longer (about 28 gig of music on it) or it might be that the card is too large at 32GB. The Parrot website says that there is no limit to card size but that sounds a bit optimistic to me.
Other than that though, I'm delighted so far.

I've got one of these too. Great bit of kit. I did notice a tweak in the VillainRom thread that ups the Bluetooth audio quality, if that's how you're using it. Haven't tried it yet myself.
One thing I have noticed is it's a bit hit and miss when play and pause work. I could never get into the car and press play, and just have it resume the last thing that was playing (usually BeyondPod). In the end I set Tasker up to automatically start playing when Bluetooth connects. Job done.

The only annoyance I have now, which is more parrot related is that if I have a usb memory key and sd card connected, even if i had been.listening to music on the sd card, next time I get in the car and press play, it defaults back to the usb.
All in all, the kit is impressive. I bought mine about 18 months ago and gave nearly £300 fitted. A couple of months ago, I bought a kit for my girlfriend, brand new for £110 and fitted it myself in 40 mins!!
Definitely recommended.

Hope all ok with yours. I've been delighted with mine so far.
It does charge off the USB connector, don't need to use the iPhone end. It seems to deliver quite a small charge though so I still use a cigarette lighter socket.
From memory you can set the phone to storage mode and the Parrot kit will read the music contents of the phone but I had trouble with a larger capacity card. I'm happy with the audio quality over Bluetooth so this was the simplest way for me to work.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense or if you have any other questions.

I have updated my MKi9200 Parrot software and set the "Force AT Sync". Effectively I don't have the phone voice commands anymore and it is already much better. Thank you for this.
However, I experience some interruptions of sound each time I use the phone (like just checking my mail) or each time an event occurs on the phone (like reception of an email notice or reception of SMS notice). It is not comfortable when listening to music...
Also, I had a much better experience with my Parrot and another phone than SG2. With SG2 + Parrot, sometimes you press the green button on Parrot and you don't get the voice command to dial, sometimes you have a phone ring and you can't take the call when pushing the green button on Parrot, sometimes you can't hang up after a call, sometimes it only works after several attempts of push on a given button.
Well, it is better than before but still not working as it should. Of course, when the Parrot buttons are not responding, I can still get the command right using the phone screen to take the call or hang-up but it is really not safe at all while ones drives his car in the same time...
Has anyone here found a solution first not to get those cuts on phone events?
Has anyone found a better setting to make sure the Parrot buttons are always working with SG2?
Has anyone experienced the same kind of troubles despite the "Force AT Sync" mode is set like on my SG2?

I can't find how to get latest firmware from the parrot website
Your post was interesting but for the life of me I can't work out where to get a newer version of firmware! I have just put in the unit and was dismayed when I called Samsung and was told that I can't put my contacts in it! It seems that you have so I'd love to know where and how you got the firmware you refer to.

Hi guys, just registered. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (with 2.3.5 KI3) and a Parrot LS-3400GPS carkit. It pairs without problems but of course it is a bit limited so I would like to change it with a Parrot MKi9200. I'm reading in many places there are a lot of issues with Android phones. I also wrote di Parrot and they do CONFIRM. But the problem (they say) is not in the carkit sw but in the Android! So strange...
On the parrot forum there are still users with mic issues, contact sync issues and voice command issues, even with the last 1.96 fw.
I've read here that everything works fine using "force at sync".
I understood that it does sync but what about the voice commands? Any problems?
Is there a conflict with the parrot ones?
I'm really confused
