Not sure if this has been asked yet but is this a possibility on an AOSP-based device? There are some great looking features from TouchWiz 4.0 that I would love to see on the Galaxy Nexus. Any developers have commentary about this as a possibility (especially now that there's an ICS-based Galaxy SII ROM floating around)?
EDIT: Seems there is already some work going on over at Rootzwiki - Link
Note Regarding the Poll: I think it's more than obvious that the majority of people here dislike any 3rd party UI (be it Sense, TouchWiz, Motoblur, etc...). So consider it more of a statistic of how many people are actually interested (ie. only pay attention to the number in Option 1, Option 2 is really just there for people who like nothing but stock).
I think most developers go out of their way to remove this..

FYI comparing TouchWiz to Sense is like comparing Cherry and Chocolate. And FWIW, personally I like Sense but we all know that either way it's extremely difficult to bring a Sense port to an AOSP-based device. However with TouchWiz who knows.
I would say bring the Touchwiz Icons and just stop there. It's a nice set of fluid and nicely themed icons. I did it on my Droid Charge. I had a full AOSP rom and launcher but I just swapped the PNG's of the icons on everything for Touchwiz icons. It looked good. Here's some pics.

I always hated Touchwiz BECAUSE of the icons. On my Vibrant, every app icon was encased in a big ugly box of a solid color. Looked way too iPhone-ish and cartoony and ugly. No thanks
One thing I liked about TW over Stock is that Samsung at least makes an attempt to make everything part of a same theme package where Google just throws icons together with no effort whatsoever.
TouchWiz?! Ahhhh, kill it with fire!
If I wanted TouchWiz I'd get a Galaxy S II.
I say port it. I'm not a fan of any OEM skins, but the more choices we have on this device the better. It will just open up more and more opportunities.
People with touchwiz complaint about it and root to get rid of it, people beg for a nexus phone because is AOSP, now that they have a clean looking android phone, they want touchwiz and sh!t, never happy.
Never having a touchwiz device, I do know the basics of the launcher from a friends galaxy. Kinds feels like Go Launcher and nice themes and widgets.
There was a touchwiz CM7 theme that I liked because of the battery icon and color scheme.
Like said, you don't really need touchwiz to get all the functionality of it today. Just icons, go launcher, and beautiful Widgets.

I'm happy to see some positive feedback. Let's convince those developers.
Please never let this happen. 3rd party skins have only hurt Android since 2.0.
ICS will only get better why ruin it with touchwiz and any other skin for that effect.

Yes,that's exactly what i am saying,it will probably be launched in last week of May but it will be by June only when it will be available all across India.
Don't go by any bull**** retailers date{or anyone who is saying & spreading this false news of it's launch on 1st May}.
Network 18 Tech Guru,NDTV Gadget Guru,Times Now,iGyaan all these prominent Indian shows & Forums were there at Samsung Asia Summit held in New Delhi & have hands on with SGS 2 but they all have clealry mentoned June as the month of it's launch in India.
I hope it turns out otherwise, but i do not see it happening.

As the op mentioned, its called the htc sense mod launcher, but underneath its adw launcher. I used it on my sgs1 as well, and whats cool is you can also download the sense launcher themes that work with to change it up a bit. I hope the creator of it updates some of the features to make it more like the one from sense 3.0. that will be epic.

I had the gsm version of the GN on Tmobile and now i have the CDMA/LTE Version with Verizon and I got to say this is the first phone that I can actually say there is no need for a custom rom. I had the galaxy s, mytouch 4g, htc sensation and on all those phones a custom rom was always a must and that is not the case with this phone. I have tried many custom roms on here both gsm and cdma and I still havent found one that runs any better, faster or smoother then the stock one. Dont get me wrong I appreciate the developers working on this phone but thats just my opinion I wanted to share with everyone specially the people new to this phone. All you need is root and your good to go for a few custom mods and wireless tethering
No phone needs a custom ROM. A lot of people want custom ROMs. Some may want them more than others. You're happy with the stock setup and thats great. Doesn't mean everyone is.
True thats why I said I might be wrong. Just expressing my thoughts about this phone so far

I agree. Not that I'm ungrateful to the modders/devs but I don't know how many times I've seen "smooth as butter, no bugs, ultra fast" etc only to have multiple issues with a ROM.
I totally disagree. My Nexus is running much better after rooting and running a custom ROM. And I have absolutely no issues to speak of other than better battery life and a noticeably faster phone.

Many people get a development-friendly Google Experience phone such as this for the express purpose of using custom ROMs. Many others just want a straight Android phone with no TouchWiz/Sense/Blur on it and that gets timely software updates. To each his own (though I like to push the boundaries of Android's potential and try various ROM/kernel/mod/theme combinations). Yes, custom ROMs often have bugs in them (our devs often work alone or with small teams for free and squeeze dev work between job and family life - besides, even stock has bugs, and Google has legions of coders and testers). In addition to some bugs, though, they usually offer performance, features, and eye candy not available on stock.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
this is what I'm on all stock rooted and clockwork recovery. battery life is great and I don't have the problems that some people have experienced with google apps and with the market not restoring etc. and like I said I have tried custom roms on both the GSM and CDMA/LTE Galaxy Nexus. just sharing my experience on both phone also to add Verizons Network runs 2-3 times faster then Tmobile's Network in Los Angeles.

i have to agree. i am rooted but find no rom got my interest. maybe cm9, but it's not stable yet.
my main reason to root my phones have always been to remove all the sh!t that verizon puts in their phones, so with this one being 90% crapware free,i feel no need to root it.
A ROM may not be necessary, but a new launcher for sure. Nova launcher allows enough customization to do most things.
Roman just released a "milestone" ROM version of aokp that's solid and ships with stock kernel. His drop down toggles are the best.
Its my daily driver now for sure. I hit it hard flashing since I bought this phone, but need to take a break and this ROM is it for me. And I'm sticking with stock kernel just to keep GTA 3 working
Hey, guys. I am looking to to start developing a ROM this summer. I wanted some input from you guys on what kind of stuff you wanted in it. I want to do something DIFFERENT. Please don't expect me to make AOKP 2.0 or anything like that. This will be my first ROM ever and I want to make something cool, and learn more as I do it. Any suggestions are welcome, but I don't want any crap. Thanks guys.
First off good luck to ya! I have dipped my toes in some of the dev'ing world but have never had enough time to get fully immersed.
Second, keep it fun. From what I can tell most of the devs that keep doing it for the long run enjoy what they are doing, and generally don't get too caught up in the drama.
Finally, I would like a ROM that is just different. I don't know how to describe it right now, but going from CM9 to AOKP to Gummy just feels like I am just changing a couple features. I would love a ROM that is just nothing like anything out there right now. Like I said, I don't know how you could do that but i'm sure there is stuff out there.

The funny part is that people actually want that.
Hi,
It may be hard to build a new rom different from the others. Each rom here provides everything that one can hope, stock to highly customisable (maybe a little bloated),fast,light,themed,etc...
I think it's good to start to ask for ideas and opinions but keep mainly your own ideas because if you take into account all the ideas of everyone, once started you cannot do it to please everyone...
I think the most people here want a fast/customisable rom but we have already a big choice...Take a look in the dev section to check what all rom proposes...
For me no more idea of what I would like more than my actual rom or others I've tested...
Maybe like the most here a fast, light and clean rom, customisable but just the necessary (navbar, toggles, lockscreen) and maybe a themed rom directly (the risk of not pleasing everyone). But the problem is this kind of rom already exists...Arghh,hard!Just find a balance between pure stock and highly customisable.A kind of Revolution rom (by Mike1986) with the mods I said above.
Some users wants almost pure stock...but with 2/3 things customisable not a full customisable rom, maybe look at it,in this direction?
It's just my opinion,I never build a rom but when you look into the dev section sometimes the devs must pull out his hair (sorry,Google translate for this ).
But in any case good luck

Build roms with Superhero Themes....
Sent from a phone...
Go beyond the standard launcher. Create a hub that will blow people away with it's usability/features/difference/etc..
Taking theming to the next level, passed MIUI.
Create your own widgets that are excellent to use and optimized as can be.
Also, make an awe inspiring Messaging app. One that's fast, themable, that let's you set a signature properly, and has a decent pop up. (People claim GoSMS to be too bloated.)
Code your own set of widgets into the notification pull down (not just toggles).
Build it using linario, if possible.
Create your own, integrated and optimized, rom manager.
Code dragging up on the navigation bar to have more controls/other goodies.
Create a clean looking (but themable) lock screens with short cuts to essential apps. And add a cool animation or two.
Oh, and good luck on your first rom!

Not taking a pot shot or being douchey. Just wondering.
Without knowing that, people will throw every ridiculous idea at you without knowing what you are or are not capable of.
This is bordering on being a hype thread way before development has begun
But seriously, Google would have been the first place to start. And there are PLENTY of "so you wanna build (insert rom name) for the galaxy nexus" threads. So if you can't build from someone else's source yet, than this thread is pointless in its own way.

Just got my Note 2 last night Awesome device, a bit bigger than my old international One X running CM10, but getting used to size. I rooted it out of the box, man it was the easiest quickest root ever for me. Just installed a stock ROM ( cleanrom ) and simple ICS blue theme to start off, and try out the S-Pen and Touchwiz features. So far so good, running on Straight Talk ATT sim, very fast, great service today so far. .
I have been on stock AOSP Android for years, Nexus-One, Nexus-S, Galaxy Nexus, One X running CM10. I did have the Galaxy S II running a good stock Touchwiz ROM and heavily ICS theme which I liked a lot.
Curious what are you running ? Stock Touchwiz based ROM, or AOSP CM10.1 ROM ? I love AOSP, but are any of the CM10 based ROM's for the ATT Note II good enough as a daily ROM with little bugs ? But AOSP ROM's on the Note II get rid of all the S-Pen features and note writing ? I mean the S-Pen is a big deal on the Note phones, would suck to lose all those features, but then again AOSP is awesome if a good stable and quality ROM.
Of the AOSP ROM's which one for our Note II is the most stable, and offer custom DPI and cool features above and beyond just stock nightly CM10.1 ? And of the stock Touchwiz ROM's which is your favorite, with cool themes and dark apps ? So many to chose from
I am using Nova launcher, and makes the phone look more stock, with cool features, and the 6 x 6 grid fits the Note perfectly. I am shocked actually with Nova on a stock cleanrom, it does feel act very much like stock AOSP.
Thank you
I was on CleanROM SE for a while and everything ran really good. All the stock Sammy features were there.
I just switched over to CM10.1 because I dont use all the SPen features and Samsung stuff so I figured to give it a go. Its pretty stable. Love the stock group messaging. The camcorder volume doesnt work....but there has been a update post today saying it is working now with a reflash of an updated version. That makes google now work and camcorder audio. I havent checked it myself yet. I have NOVA running as my launcher and its nice. If you dont need all the sammy stuff I would say give it a shot. If you need all the Sammy stuff CleanROM SE is awesome.
I really just like not having a ton of Sammy stuff running on the phone that I dont use. My apps in memory went from 1 gig on CleanROM SE to 750 megs on CM10.1. I really like all the stock stuff that CM10.1 has right off the bat. Being able to change all the notification colors, toggles, right swipe down for other toggles on the notification bar. Its not perfect but I dont mind.

Holy cow, battery life after one day is AMAZING
Unplugged for 17 hours now, been using it nonstop, almost 6 hours screen time. Battery @ 33% :good:
yeah Scott's ROM is most excellent. The most I got out of it was 5 1/2 hours screen and just over a day off the charger.
The reasons I switched
1) I like to tinker and have never used a CM ROM
2) I was running the original version of SE and needed to update to 1.2 and in order to do that I had to wipe/factory reset etc so I figured why not try it.
3) I was really digging the stock feel of android....and all the options available directly from stock.
I already have CleanROM SE 1.2 on my external SD because if I go back that will be the one. Great battery life on the stock experience.

Being a KS backer for the Chameleon, they released the Chameleon Launcher 2, which can also be used on phones. I have been playing with it for a day and so far so good. I actually like it better for the phone than my N7. I'm all for custom stuff, but this launcher is pretty clean and IMO works pretty well for a simple layout design.

I want to give it a try but Im not a backer, so we'll have to wait at least a couple of weeks so they can release to everyone else. Sad.
I took a look on the tablet launcher and found it interesting, don't know about phone version yet.
It would be great if you release a trial or demo version, it is going to be a paid app.
Horrible Launcher.
Deeply flawed, lots of bugs, very slow

Really? I don't find the slowness. That would be my first gripe, but I can really say it aint slow! lol Compared to other launchers, its on par IMO.
Can you elaborate on deeply flawed as well? Bugs, yes, it's a bit buggy, but it's still beta-ish.
Is it great? I say no because it doesn't give you the ultimate flexibility like Nova Prime or Apex and Go Launcher does, but that's the great thing about this environment. It's all about choice.
You ask me right now do I use it as a daily driver? No I use Nova with a bunch of UCCW widgets running on the launcher. It's fully custom to my taste and I find it hard pressed to go away with it because of the amount of time it took me to have it look and work a certain way.
Bottom line, this is a good starter launcher and I have to really say it isn't slow for me. Can you describe the slowness?

You're probably talking about chameleon launcher 1, becouse the second revision is great ( even though I haven't tried personally ).
Looks great. Thanks for the share. Shame it's restricted to Kick starter backers only. I would have paid for this.

Really wish I could try it out. Just so I could love it or hate it.

Can you specify which bugs you're referring to or what exactly makes it "deeply flawed?"
If it doesn't provide features that you would prefer, that's one thing, but to call it buggy and flawed feels disingenuous at best.

You may want to actually link the most recent version that it seems you didn't test, "buddy."
I'm still waiting for an actual answer as to exactly how it's "deeply flawed" and a list of "bugs."
Your rhetoric is as bad as a politician.

Everybody else is talking about the new chameleon launcher 2. As already pointed out, you're talking about chameleon launcher 1...buddy.

looks clean and all but ive already paid for nova prime when it was a quarter.
In vicino we trust!
I backed Chameleon on KS when I had an Asus Infinity tablet. It looked kind of cool and I really wanted to try it. It was far buggier then than this new version that works on my Nexus 4. I didn't end up using it much on my tablet, but I have been using it for a couple of days on my phone. It's not perfect, but it does work pretty well. The thing I like most about it? It's DIFFERENT!

I think he's talking about the first version, which I agree with him whole heartedly that it just sucks lol. But like the other member said, CL2 works a bit better on the phone. I can attest. Is it buggy, yes, but it's waaay better than the tablet version V was talking about and linked to.

But it is relevant to the newer version are they gonna release a buggy launcher, fix a few of the many bugs then nothing for 6 months? I am certainly not going to pay for an app whose developer has that history.
