Is there any way to downgrade? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I am unhappy with the Android 2.3.6 update. I want to downgrade to Android 2.3.5. The 2.3.6 update took away my 5.1 ch surround sound, increased RAM usage, causing me to reboot my phone constantly, and decreased battery life. Is there any way to downgrade? Will older downgrading methods work? Excuse me for my amateurness. I am an ex-iOS user.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App

Downgrading is the exact same thing as upgrading. Just flash the ROM of the firmware you want.

So i can do it with Samsung Kies? If not, can i use Odin but without rooting?

Yeah odin is fine

There's a Google music app and a android music app. I'm on mr xs stock rooted ciq free rom and have done a clean wipe and fresh install. I have 5.1 in this and its 236 rom based. It seems kinda dumb to downgrade for your reasoning when you can get the better version and still have what you seem to be missing.

Deebo took your bike too?

I found that there are 2 music applications in 2.3.6. I was using the new one. I am now using the old one with 5.1. Thank you for your two cents. I am now two cents richer. (no hard feelings. I just always wanted to use that line.)

There's not 2 "music" apps in 2.3.6!
You're doing it wrong.

Actually when I upgraded to 2.3.6 I had two music apps as well ... (What it was and I consider it a bug, I had upgraded google music from the market, but when I installed 2.3.6 it saw both the one included and the one I upgraded, it was a bug, I am sure of that)
So if you do not do a wipe when you upgrade you "may" see two music apps in this case, but being a bug, it may not show all the time

I had both google music and android stock music player with both 2.3.5 and 6. Clean wipe on both. New phone, i always factory reset when i get it, then same with update.. What 2 music app are people talking about and what bug?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk

okay so i never installed Google music but its there. i updated it twice already but its still there. i cant delete it. i even factory rest it while on 2.3.6 and its still there. what am i doing wrong. i want to get rid of google music. it opens by itself and eats my battery quicker.

I think no matter what ROM you chose, it would have given you the same results. Maybe out need to go back to basics. Clear caches, and re-apply a ROM.

I couldnt root 2.3.6 and went to 2.3.5 and appkied a 2.3.6 rom and its still there.

You root 2.3.6 the same way you root 2.3.5. It worked for me anyway.
The superuser app was a bit of a pain to flash and didn't always take the first time around. I would have left 2.3.6 on your phone, installed cwm and made a backup and then flashed a 2.3.5 rom. Beats having to odin back to stock and what not.

Just leave the stock updated 2.3.6 version. Flash cwm through Odin, then flash superuser zip file. Its gonna fail couple of times, just keep flashing it.. It will go through just fine, then you have your updated version with root. Non of that BS deodex stock, custom rom..

Lost wifi calling after attempted Odin root

I am risking getting flamed but I find the search rather difficult on my gs2, I attempted to duo the Odin root (haven't completed due to having to do a hard reset) and I had noticed that wifi calling is gone is there any way to get that back? I have also noticed that keis no longer talks to my device it says I need to connect it no mater if I am in debug mode or in normal mode any ideas?

Odin wont root your phone. It installs clockwork mod recovery OR can be used to return your phone to stock configuration.
If you did something to root your phone with Odin, which it wont do, its no wonder you are experiencing problems.

could you have possibly used ODIN to flash a pre rooted 2.3.5 rom?
Are you saying that if you go to settings/Wireless and network you don't see WiFi calling there? it might be there, but just disabled.

Yeah this is wierd, ODIN doesnt even touch the ROM on your phone. All it does is flasha new recovery image.(if you followed the ROOT guide in the dev section). If you did anything with superuser in ODIN then you might have bigger problems than wifi calling...

then just flash a custom or stock 2.3.6 rom and bam wifi calling. If you want to keep some bloat but have an easy way to remove some download and follow the insructions of this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322642 It has a program called bloater where you can pick what bloat programs you want to keep and which to remove

[Q] YouTube won't play videos

Yesterday I tried to watch some videos on the YouTube app. Any video I tried, the screen would remain black and the phone would vibrate two times before saying it was not able to play the video and try again. Same issue happened today. I even tried uninstalling the updates, but still nothing. Did a couple reboots just in case, still no luck. I don't recall having this problem before but then again it's been awhile since I've messed with YouTube on my phone. Did some searching, couldn't find a solution.
Currently running 2.3.4 GB EG22. (no set dev make)

Why are you still on a leak? We have official EI22 2.3.5 now. Flash a new ROM and try it. If it still does not work uninstall the app and redownload from the market. You have not deleted any DRM files, right?

Nope. I never got an OTA. Factory data wipe formats system, data and cache. OTA actually screws up people's phones. Better to Odin EC05, root and flash a GB ROM, then flash the modem delta.

I meant SOME people's phones dude. Some would not take to the new recovery no matter what that is why I prefer old reliable and I just Odin a prerooted EC05, flash CWM5 and I'm off and running...2 steps. Works every time.

If I'm going to an EI22 ROM, I don't have to Odin back to an older modem to go to the newer one, do I? I just got confused by the recent replies about going to EC05 and then going to EI22. Why downgrade just to upgrade?

We never got a modem.bin for EI22 only a delta from EC05 so yes you have to Odin in EC05 modem for the flashable to work.

I take it that the EI22 is an update that happens when I got into About Phone and have it check for updates?
Well, when u odin back to ec05 and turn on ur phone, sometimes u get an automatic alert about the update, and sometimes u have to tap on "update android" to make it happen. But u will eventually will see the update. It does take awhile though. Make sure u have a full battery doing this.

? Just being rooted will not stop the update. In fact most paths will let you take the update and brick your phone if you actually did things like removing system apps. Luckily thats usually a soft brick.
Are you on EL29, some other Gingerbread, one of the 4.0.3/4.0.4 leaks or FF18? There hasnt been a "New OTA" in a month. If your not on FF18 and you want FF18 just odin it.

LOL Flash works fine on ICS, are you sure you were not reading about Jelly Bean? Which still works in just no new installs allowed.
Besides as of today Adobe is supposed to have pulled Flash for ALL phones on all android versions that dont already have it installed
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/14/psa-adobe-halts-new-installs-of-flash-on-android-as-of-tomorrow/
You can flash FF18 OTA, in clockworkmod, or flash the tar in odin that we had 3 weeks prior to the OTA. I flashed a tar/one click earlier for testing and someone else flashed a zip for it in clockwork mod using a safe recovery.
Taking the OTA means you loose root anyways, not sure why people think they want the OTA. With no root exploit youd have to flash an prerooted one in odin.
I tried to flash it with the original update and looked like it was going to update but after the animation showing as a box with a arrow unpacking the update it threw me into the Android with the exclamation screen. Had to battery pull and safe to say that my phone is safe and not bricked.

Well once again its going to rape you of root and the only way to get root is the same way to get rooted FF18 from where you are. Mind you the update to FF18 is not without its issues. Swype for example you have to delete its data for it to work again. Best bet is to backup your stuff and wipe it.

Entirely up to you, honestly it isn't that hard to make a backup of all your apps with 'Helium' and restore onto the stock rom, etc. It's the challenge everyone faces when flashing ROMs. I would wait until there's an update and see what changes it brings before reverting. But you will want to download the stock .tar for instances you need to go back to stock.
Is there a way to root the device again and still maintain having all blotware removed? Or will it add back all carrier and third party apps?

All official updates are complete with bloat, the only way is to install the update and remove the bloat afterwards or wait for someone to release a debloated rooted build.

It's because we rooted, but uninstalling it won't reset it because of the ticker, anything installed after the factory condition will show it as custom.

But if your rooted in the first place why does it matter you can install any firmware/software updates yourself

He should just wipe dalvik and cache and reflash the rom, that would be a lot easier.
I would suggest Flashing freeza's Stock Rooted Rom as edfunkycold suggested. You can find it HERE. That way you retain Root. So if you want to change things, you have Full control .

The OTA will still most likely not work because he's rooted. Bloatware has nothing to with receiving ota. He might as well just flash Freeza's Stock rooted rom it is as stock as stock can be just rooted and flashable in a zip format. He would then have to freeze the Bloatware he wants frozen. Freezing them is a much better and safer option than deleting them.
