Hello and first i have to say, great forum!
Now to my question. Is it possible to create a swap file or partition (like swapper, or???) for my/our galaxy? Then we didn't have the low ram problem !?!
(like my old htc magic )

there is no low ram problem in actual kernels...
Yes, you mean the kernels with 340mb ram. But i mean ram like galaxy tab ob more. ;-)

Swap does no good for this device, as soon as it starts to swap it gets inresponsive because the sdcard is way to slow except maybe you have a class 16 card which for me is out of reach in terms of price...
Do Galaxy Tab appz use much more RAM? Because with a lot of widgets and synch apps I've never ever filled the 304 (now 340) megabytes of RAM to justify the swap...
Hello,
I came across the rescan media (root) application and it says something of stopping the media scan which helps keep memory up and speed up the phone.
Also, the automemory application, which apparently boosts ram by allocating it in a more effecient way? (Root app)
Just wondering thoughts or comments on other android users or people that use/d them.
I run CM7.1 with minimal theme and everything in folders and use only 2screens. Only widgets are battery & watchdog. I try to keep my phone running fast, clutter free and effecient on battery, and run juicesaver occasionally.

I know this will most likely not work but its worth asking.
Is there a way to play minecraft on android other than the app because it sucks. It uses the .jar extension meaning it needs java 6 or 7 runtime but is there anyway to make it work?

No. Mine craft uses about 512mb of the ram all the time and needs even more to run alongside an OS. That is PC ram which is way faster than mobile ram. The game also requires enough CPU power to render huge worlds and all of the changes associated with them which the hummingbird obviously can't do. The graphics are also too intensive for the gpu.

Thanks for the info man. I guess I can stop trying to port it over

Hi every one , I started this thread to see the amount of ram people are being left with with no apps in the multitasking .the reason is because we get 1gb of ram and I still found my one x doesn't have a lot of ram left , my phone uses between 800 and 900 mbs of ram which is too much I think.I believe it is because of HTC sense 4.0 to be honest .Due to lag when scrolling with live wallpapers , I have a launcher as I believe it runs smoother.sorry for ranting but my question is this: how much ram does your phone use and what launcher do you use ?

Task Manager: If i stop all i have 594mb used and 382mb free.
In setting\apps: 585used, 392 free.

Good information about Android memory management here:
RAM: What it is, how it's used, and why you shouldn't care

Thanks for the responses , I wonder why mine uses so much ram , maybe howany apps I have , let's keep this thread alive
UPDATE:after restarting my phone it had about 300mbs free , that's good

If I kill all tasks I have about 400mb free. With apps running as normal, I have between 150 - 250mb free. I have about 85 apps installed.
Check this out , if you want more RAM free check this thread (I disabled all the bloatware and languages apart from English )

Curious with so much memory usage on hox,
I went in to Samsung showroom, and test SGS3, clear memory on its taksmanager, I've got 390MB afterward.
Didn't much different from my hox, so... theory about sense 4 bloat? debunked, touchwiz also the same.
If you want more maybe you need pruse aosp rom.
Another point is that a phone is NOT like a pc you don't need loads of ram sitting doing nothing. I've no probs sitting with about 190mb left when I'm using my phone. if there's more it just means it's being wasted

Most of the ram used is cached ram which is freed as soon as an app needs it. Normal apps actually use very little ram.
In other words stop worrying about it.
Thanks for the responses

How come you guys have so much free space? I have 378 used and 294 free. I have the NA HOX
I've check from setting>app>running,it says 674mb has been use and 309mb free without task killer.sometimes when I restart my phone, there's will hv 4xxmb available, but never can keep it anyway

Why do you want lots of free RAM? I would rather have it being used and doing something productive than sitting there idle. That's the point of it, this aint a PC as someone else has said, you need to stop obsessing over something pointless.
Is there will be a performance downside, i want a lot of games, songs, movies, because it's my only mobile device at the time

my bro if u talk about performance, it's not depends on how big your storage but more than one aspect, i think you should root your devices first.
Then manage your ram with some tweak or ram manager apps :good:
hit thanks if this post helpfully for u
I am also use 64gb micro sd..
I am running a 32gig card, but that won't have any impact on performance though, try something called seeder from android market
