Boot Animation - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Anybody notice that the boot animation looks pretty washed out and seems to be designed for an LCD? The blacks aren't even black...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App

Yeah the bootanimation is kinda poor, if you're rooted you can follow the instructions in this thread and make it optimized for the Nexus.

Sweet! Thanks. I'll do root and push this as soon as I get back home from Holiday. Haven't even activated yet, I'm still on wifi only!
Glad to know that they were just sloppy and that this animation can be much better. When it first booted I thought, did I get an LCD version of Nexus!?

[REQ] [Bootanimation] iPhone Stock Boot Animation

Going to try and fool a bunch of people just for sh!ts and giggles. Running MIUI and want a iPhone boot animation so I can take the Nexus to some of the bars here and trick some silly iPhone users (mainly girls) into thinking that I have an iPhone 5 or 6 prototype. Changed the battery cover to have an Apple logo on it. Also, does anyone know if it's possible to change that "pre-bootanimation" logo with Google and the little lock at the bottom?
Thanks
I'm not even gonna say it.

To answer your question, yes you can change that Google image, it is called the splash screen and is done through the bootloader.

What's the pre-bootanimation on a iPhone? Is it that white screen? Also, I think you have to modify RLE files(or something like that).

I'd probably just want to make it completely black or have the Apple logo like on the iPhone bootanimation. I was able to get the bootanimation so mostly everything is in order. MIUI for the Nexus is so very much in Alpha that a lot of stuff still doesn't look right but I've managed to make it look 85% like an iPhone. It would probably work now but I'm a perfectionist so I'll probably work on it for a few more days or so. Probably until I realize that I'm no longer interested.
Wow, a Galaxy Nexus owner who wants an iPhone boot animation has some serious identity issues. Perhaps you need to set a reminder to talk to your therapist?
LOL you guys are ridiculous. Isn't the reason we all got a nexus so we can customize it the way we (each INDIVIDUAL) wanted to?

I reckon it would be a good experiment to show them how awesome the phone is. Then when they are in love with it (like we are) tell them what it is and see the reaction.

EDIT: You'll have to get in and change the Flash image (the white on black Google that appears as soon as it's powered on) then just get a dev (I might actually do it, with the pin wheel and everything) to post one and you'll be sweet - getting all the Atlantic (is that what you call them?) girls thinking you've got your hands on the newest iPhone prototype.
If that works, while you're there, also tell her that it needs to sit across the other side of the bedroom in landscape mode with the flash light on to charge - also to ignore the noises that sound like the camera re-focusing
Pathetic. Can't use any other word for this.

Welcome to the club.
I had it for a week. My thoughts.
After a year with HTC Sense (Thunderbolt), I'm finally back to vanilla android, since I'm a former Nexus One owner. Atleast this should get speedy OS updates (even if there's a slight delay compared the to GSM version).
ICS is good. As you install more and more apps, and have them running in the background, it might get laggy, but thats expected.
HOWEVER, since this has the 720p display, the text, especially in the notification bar, looks much smaller (compared to my T-Bolt), especially the '4G' icon or the clock. Not a biggie for me, but the 720p display makes the text and images look much crisper.
If you do use custom roms, i suggest you keep the radio that was installed on the phone out of the box, since i tried the 4.0.4 radios and had some signal issues with it. Went back to 4.0.2 radios, and no problems since.
I have only one thing left waiting from Samsung, a proper 3-pin car dock and a hdmi desk dock.
Unlock bootloader right as you get it. This way if you decide to root and flash custom roms then you can do it without losing any app data because you'll be able to back it up using titanium backup.

I'm coming from the bionic.
First thing I love ICS and chrome just love it. Shape and feel is so nice.
I bought a battery extender(1mm larger then the regular battery) horrible got 4 hours. I miss my bionic because of how well it connected to the network.
Nexus G has a horrible time connecting I hope they fix it just like they did the bionic. It is a bit laggy but that's a soft issue for sure Google will fix it.
It seams like its slow on purpose (my opinion)
All and all only way I'll go back to the bionic is if they dont figure out the connection issues.
Hope I helped.

i hope i dont have data issues. its one of the main reasons why i left at&t is crappy data in full service area

Previous GSM Galaxy Nexus Owners..

Did you guys switch to this version of the Galaxy S3? Was it worth it? I'm thinking getting this on At&t as I have an upgrade available. Kind of worried about development not taking off yet? Also, what color led notifications does this version have?
Not taking off yet? We have CM9/CM10, AOKP (ICS/JB) and a bunch of TouchWiz kangs!
The notification LED is blue, green, red, or white (depending on the notification) by default. With custom ROMs, its configurable though.
I don't miss my Nexus. The camera on it hurt me to take pics. Do I miss AOSP? A little.. but the hardware of the S3 more than makes up for it.

Thanks for the reply. I think this will be my birthday gift then . Although another 2 years of marriage to at&t ugghhh.
Is the sg3 screen much better than the sgn screen? Also camera is that much better on the sg3? I've been reading some complaints.
And yes I see this version has good dev support now. Thats pretty good that samsung is using led notifications on this device as well.

Hell yes the camera is that much better, the screen is debatable, but my opinion I like the screen on the S3 way better. I can't see the individual pixels on here as I could on the Gnex so it looks better

I get purple notifications for when I receive a Voicemail on Google Voice which was a nice surprise to me!
SysAdmNj, not sure if you are in a 4g LTE area but if you are, the speeds are pretty amazing. :good:
If you are, it's worth the upgrade alone!
I miss some of the support on the gn (paranoid android and aokp) but the hardware and camera are good enough reasons for me to stick with the s3.

I'm getting the S3 today. Been on the Nexus for a long while now. I absolutely love Jelly Bean and Pure Google. But I'm willing to flash AOKP/CM10 in order to get it. I'm not a fan of TouchWiz, but I guess that could grow on me..
I'm looking at that camera on the S3 and how amazing it is compared to the lackluster camera on the Nexus.
I'm pretty close to getting mines at lunch time, you guys convinced me. I'm just wondering where the "pictures taken with your at&t sgs3" is?
My buddy has nexus. Resolution is lower so the gs3 looks sharper. Screen is bigger and cam way nicer. It's like a better version of the nexus once you take touchwiz off.

Many custom ROMS have that feature.
It's not a new thing, my old moto defy has this feature from circa 2011. It is neat looking though.
I really like this animation.
It was introduced in Gingerbread on the Nexus S and Nexus One, and carried over to 4.0+. I'm so used to it now that I forget that other people might not have seen it before. I once read someone complaining that he thought something was wrong with his screen (on a Galaxy Nexus, I think), not realizing it's just an effect
I didn't realize the first Nexus 7 didn't do this, but I'm glad to hear the new one does. I think I'd be disappointed when mine shows up if it didn't...
Nah, you aren't the only one
When I see unrooted phones without that animation, I get really really uncomfortable.
Yep,I'm diggin it too.

[SOLVED] Mods please lock this

Hello everyone around, today I exchanged devices, got my 2nd Nexus and joined the GNex community Hope I can be of any help to you later, but now I need some help:
Both GNex and Nexus 4 have indicator LEDs that can handle "breathe" actions. However, GNex doesn't come with native battery charging indication while Nexus 4 does (Samsung, why?). What I want is that the LED "breathes" when on low battery, charging or full, and (optional but much needed) these LED behaviors should persist even when the screen is unlocked, just like what I got on a standard Nexus 4. I've searched around the web and:
1) Light Flow is said to work, but won't even light up my LED in test mode.
2) Light Manager does its job when screen is first locked, but the LED will turn off once I unlock the screen. Furthermore, if I unlock the screen, pull down the notification drawer and then unlock, the LED won't light up even though I'm still plugged in
3) A third app (I forgot its name) is said to work well, but is reported to fail since 4.3.
Now I'm outta ideas... I am an active flasher and GNex is a secondary device so it has to be on the latest CM - I can't downgrade to 4.2.x just for this LED. I'll definitely appreciate it if you have any app to suggest that can realize what I described above (I can stand having no LEDs when screen on, but it has to work perfectly when screen off).
Thanks for reading this and have a nice day.

Thanks for the heads-up! I gave another go at Light Flow and after careful settings, it sure works better than Galaxy Nexus LED. More customization and the ability to make LED stay on rather than "breathing".
However, I've searched around in the app but didn't find the place where I can set the LEDs to light even when screen is on - could you kindly point out what option and where it is? I'm on the latest version of the app.

The API is there, vanilla Android doesn't have the options to do it. Think, how could lightflow work if the support wasn't there?
