I'm building my own ROM, and I'm using a modified framework with some mods, but now I want to add a battery mod to that. But the battery mods are always shared in the framework file itself, which makes it impossible to merge with an existing framework, or am I wrong?
Can someone please tell me how I add a battery mod to an already modified framework file?
Thanks.
Isn't anyone going to tell me how to do it?

The best thing to do is flash and existing rom or theme. Then apply then apply any battery mod, then copy framework to your workspace and simply replace the image files with the ones that you want. There are advanced tutorial to do this from scratch but inless you have alot of timw and are confident with xml's it might not be a good option.
Hope this helps.

If all you want is just the battery mod then you can try this site
http://circle.glx.nl/
You can upload the framework-res.apk from your theme and upload it to the site.
on the end which rom do we have to choose???
I changed the Battery Icon, and Some Icons, but which rom do I have to choose on the end when I upload my framework.
I can choose between Sense Rom ( not Leoroid ), Leoroied, some other, HTC HD Rom ???
Depends on the ROM you use... Probably Sense ROM (Not LeeDroid v2.2).
I tried doing the above and it seems circle.glx.nl breaks something inside the framework file I upload causing it to fail.
I wouldn't mind manually doing it, but I can not find any source files to the battery mods, all that is there are ready made frameworks (which are useless to me) and the kitchen website.
Someone tell me how to do it from scratch please.
You dont choose a rom at the end but rather upload your own framework via the browse button. I found the editing the notification in the kitchen kills the framework for the Galaxy S as well....

That is what I did. I just need to know which files are actually changed without spending hours using diff.
Battery mod makers could easily post the images/xml's they use so I can add it to my framework manually.

What battery mod/style are you after and I'll post the images for you?
I'm after GS Blue from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8965042&postcount=1149
I saw some modders put their sources up which is very nice, but I don't really fancy those mods

What kind of rom? Stock based? Aosp/miui/cm7?
Are you going to be building from source?
Personally as a miui porter, I use 7zip, apktool, and notepad++
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
On Ubuntu there is already a good notepad. You need the android sdk (add it to path), apktool, smali, baksmaly, all of the crap needed for compiling cm7, eclipse and it's ADK plugin, 7zip, voodoo kernel repack tools, that's probably all...

I had a question along the same lines. But I'm a total noob to coding. What I really wanna do is take an already built rom and add some mods to it that I like and then save the package as a rom . In doing that I'm hoping to cut my teeth a little into the world of rom creation.

What you are talking about Xalky is more on the lines of themeing. Customizing icons, layouts and adding in fixes, then repackaging it into the flashable. Check out the Themes subforum and the sticky at the top by Dreamsforgotten on How to theme. That may be what you are looking for. Then either Dreams, myself or the dozens of other helpful users here can help you repackage it. It is just a matter of swapping the finished product back into the ROM flashable and of course giving credit to all that contributed or developed the stuff you grabbed to mod.

You are correct. Thats what I'd like to do......for now. Thanks for the lead. It's mainly for myself to be able to save my phone setup as one flashable zip. Is there a way to take your current Rom/theme setup with mods and copy the entire thing from the phone and turn it into one flashable zip? minus my add on apps. I thought I saw someone do that around here.

I believe there is a way to make an Odinable tar backup of your phone just how it is. But that would backup all your accounts and settings too. What you want is to just stuff your modded files back into the ROM zip.
I have installed Blu Kuban ROM and loving it. However I liked the default color them of stock FF18 or even the GS3. How would I go about getting the original color scheme back to my system settings and ONLY system settings? I'm pretty familiar with system/app and the framework folders... I just dont know what goes where...
Thanks.
It would almost be easier to flash stock FF18 systemui and framework back to the phone than to retheme it and work up from there for the few things you want to change.

Ok, ya that sounds like an idea.. unless there is something inside those files I can copy from the stock to the custom and replace within Systemui and framework..
I really like all the other customizations he made to his ROM.
Thank you for the response.

You're going to lose quite a bit. He has a lot of mods, including the extended toggles if you go with stock. You will have to experiment. You can copy over all the stock icons over to his systemui and framework files from res/drawable-hdpi as a start. More advanced color modding (changing color codes) would be necessary in the decompiled xml files otherwise.
Edit: Don't replace the battery icons though when you copy over the entire contents of the drawable-hdpi.

He has a ROM pretty close to aosp type....never seen another TW based ROM so updated or having so many easy custom installs. But if u want changes, you either need to theme or go with cm9/aokp to install other themes- and there are quite a few to pick from. Do a nand and see what suits you best.

I was hoping that someone could create a flashable zip that includes stock ICS blue softkeys, like the attached zip, that also includes a blue "hide keyboard" button as well. I'm currently running CM10 so if it can work with that, that would be great.
Thanks in advance

That is already a flashable zip.. well partially.. all you have to do is Download ZipThemer and using ZipThemer make a flashable with the included Zip. If you've never made one before i have a tutorial in my Themes OP. Its linked in the Main Page at the bottom.
I'm trying to stay away from ZipThemer, and I'll explain why. It appears that when making a flashable zip in ZipThemer, it backs up EVERYTHING from your systemUI.apk, adds in the themed files, and zips it all up. I've run into an issue the past week with not being able to see the new battery circle mod included in the latest CM10 as well as not being able to customize the icons on my navbar. I found out that an old ZipThemer mod was to blame.
Basically, I don't want to create a new ZipThemer mod every time my rom has new features added. How can I make a flashable zip without ZipThemer?

Take the SystemUI.apk from your ROM.zip 7zip extract the file contents. In /res/drawable-xhdpi you will find the softkeys. Take the images from the Zip you have and paste them in the folder (they should already have the correct file names.) Then put the /res/drawable-xhdpi back into the archive of the original APK. Then put that apk in a flashable and flash away. You can just gut a Flashable zip *i have one in my MMS tutorial* .
Which is not as easy as a ZipThemer.. you'll also have to redo this entire process everytime you flash a new nightly.. you'll either get lost in a bootloop... the systemui will force close.. or you'll be absolutely fine.. but have an old SystemUI.

By doing that though, aren't I going to have the same issue because all the files in systemui are being preserved?

Yes but that IS the only other option... I'd just make the zipthemer and be done with it.

Same thing as ZipThemer... but does things differently. I would just make the zipthemer. And when you need to update all you have to do is update the zipthemer to flash it. Its a vrtheme and creates extra folders.
Alright, I'll do it in ZipThemer then. Anyway, can someone with good photo editing skills color ic_sysbar_back_ime and ic_sysbar_back_ime_land so they are the same ICS blue as the files in my first zip? I have attached the files.

I have a full set of ics blue nav buttons. I can make a ZipThemer for you if you like. The reason ZipThemer is the best way o go, is that it uses your exact SystemUI to make the package. No bootloops that way. Yes, you'll have to remake the update.zip every time you update your rom, but you use the same ZipThemer theme each time. And it seriously only takes about 3 minutes to do each time anyway, which is quicker than pulling your apk & swapping out images with 7zip. And you don't get the duplicate drawable folders like with vr-theme or universal flasher. I actually made a theme chooser for a customer last night with just ics blue navkeys & custom lockring. Strangest request I've ever had.

thk u very much for this! i been trying to get my icons blue without a theme apk for ever on cm10!
SO...with the release of the new Sense 5 Roms for our beloved One X I'm not seeing any themes (I know it's early).
I've had a go at porting a few over by decompiling the systemui.apk, updating the images and recompling as you used to with the original sense 4+ roms but keep losing my status bar!
I'm just starting small at the moment, changing wifi icon, battery, signal etc etc but then I'm going to move onto app icons. The venom themes are epic and it would be awesome to see a few on the sense 5 ui!
Wondering if the geniuses here can shed some light, I haven't found any tutorials or help guides as of yet, hopefully this will start as a decent pool of information,

which tool are you using?
if you are using apktool, have you copied META-INF folder , from the original APK, inside the new one? ( Old signature)
after pushing it to the device, have you set permissions? (rw-r-r--)
Cache and Dalvik-cache wiped ?

ooooo didn't think about the META-INF...I'll give it a shot in the morning.
All the other steps i've done, multiple times. It's as if the systemui.apk doesn't apply during boot so maybe it is the meta file!
And I'm using apktool to decompile...recently found it better that going through the hassle of virtuous 10 suite

yep, apktool doesn't sign the apk, so you need to keep the old signature
Signing systemui.apk is not necessary. I tested many times.
To change pngs(especially patch9 pngs), just copy and paste to the apk with 7-zip if apktool get error or SystemUI FCs.
P.S. Please use the most original apk to modify if it's failed in previous build.

Not bothering with patch9s I hate those things!
For some reason everytime I push a new
SystemUI.apk to my phone, reboot, wipe cache and dalvik (for good measure) it won't apply so I lose the status bar and background etc. Essentially no system ui applies!
It's a pickle, im on ARHD at the moment so will have a go at decompiling! And try again
Funny thing is, someone made a made mod on here already for 1% battery, and even installing that doesn't work!...I'll keep tinkering

unfortunately for me is the same.
i'm trying to add a new item to settings.apk (SuperUser), i have edited all required xmls, added png, recompiled than signed, but no way to make it work.
i have also tried with zipsigner app using platform keys, but no result.. Settings won't show
Success (well a little)
Soooo....I've managed to mod the battery!
I'm going for a sort of Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon 80's style eventually, but this is the first step! Now for the wifi/signal etc. etc.
So this is what I did...
Got an existing circle battery mod with the same naming convention (since I can't be bothered to rename 100 files )
Recoloured them all in photoshop and increased the pixels size to 50 x 50
Deleted the battery icons in the existing SystemUI.apk via 7zip
Added the modified battery icons to the apk
Then pushed to the phone via adb
It automatically rebooted and viola! I may run 'fixed permissions' from recovery to be safe and wipe cache/dalvik to make sure but it's looking good!

hey guys, if you are only changing icons, you don't need to decompile just swap the images by throwing the img in the .apk with ex(7zip) you only need to decompile with xml files and such and if you need a .9 img use the dot9 patcher in sdk then use this" https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/74861217/draw9compiler.zip " to compile it before throwing it in the .apk. to use the compiler throw the .9 patched img into example1 then run the prog at main folder then look in done for compiled img

Yep already doing this mate, it's way easier than decompiling and recompiling.
Thanks for the input though!
Little more progress...
Managed to get all the status bar icons themed! I consider that great progress at the moment!

Almost there...
I'm pretty much there with what I want to do now, status bar sorted (don't know about the clock color yet) also went ahead and did the nav bar icons or prism icon as they call it, and change the home nav bar background to transparent to declutter it a bit.
I'll upload my systemui and prism files once I'm finished so anyone can have a go.
When the Viper team decide to throw a sense 5 rom out the tweaks are going to make everything soooooo much simpler! :good:
