SO...with the release of the new Sense 5 Roms for our beloved One X I'm not seeing any themes (I know it's early).
I've had a go at porting a few over by decompiling the systemui.apk, updating the images and recompling as you used to with the original sense 4+ roms but keep losing my status bar!
I'm just starting small at the moment, changing wifi icon, battery, signal etc etc but then I'm going to move onto app icons. The venom themes are epic and it would be awesome to see a few on the sense 5 ui!
Wondering if the geniuses here can shed some light, I haven't found any tutorials or help guides as of yet, hopefully this will start as a decent pool of information,

which tool are you using?
if you are using apktool, have you copied META-INF folder , from the original APK, inside the new one? ( Old signature)
after pushing it to the device, have you set permissions? (rw-r-r--)
Cache and Dalvik-cache wiped ?

ooooo didn't think about the META-INF...I'll give it a shot in the morning.
All the other steps i've done, multiple times. It's as if the systemui.apk doesn't apply during boot so maybe it is the meta file!
And I'm using apktool to decompile...recently found it better that going through the hassle of virtuous 10 suite

yep, apktool doesn't sign the apk, so you need to keep the old signature
Signing systemui.apk is not necessary. I tested many times.
To change pngs(especially patch9 pngs), just copy and paste to the apk with 7-zip if apktool get error or SystemUI FCs.
P.S. Please use the most original apk to modify if it's failed in previous build.

Not bothering with patch9s I hate those things!
For some reason everytime I push a new
SystemUI.apk to my phone, reboot, wipe cache and dalvik (for good measure) it won't apply so I lose the status bar and background etc. Essentially no system ui applies!
It's a pickle, im on ARHD at the moment so will have a go at decompiling! And try again
Funny thing is, someone made a made mod on here already for 1% battery, and even installing that doesn't work!...I'll keep tinkering

unfortunately for me is the same.
i'm trying to add a new item to settings.apk (SuperUser), i have edited all required xmls, added png, recompiled than signed, but no way to make it work.
i have also tried with zipsigner app using platform keys, but no result.. Settings won't show
Success (well a little)
Soooo....I've managed to mod the battery!
I'm going for a sort of Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon 80's style eventually, but this is the first step! Now for the wifi/signal etc. etc.
So this is what I did...
Got an existing circle battery mod with the same naming convention (since I can't be bothered to rename 100 files )
Recoloured them all in photoshop and increased the pixels size to 50 x 50
Deleted the battery icons in the existing SystemUI.apk via 7zip
Added the modified battery icons to the apk
Then pushed to the phone via adb
It automatically rebooted and viola! I may run 'fixed permissions' from recovery to be safe and wipe cache/dalvik to make sure but it's looking good!

hey guys, if you are only changing icons, you don't need to decompile just swap the images by throwing the img in the .apk with ex(7zip) you only need to decompile with xml files and such and if you need a .9 img use the dot9 patcher in sdk then use this" https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/74861217/draw9compiler.zip " to compile it before throwing it in the .apk. to use the compiler throw the .9 patched img into example1 then run the prog at main folder then look in done for compiled img

Yep already doing this mate, it's way easier than decompiling and recompiling.
Thanks for the input though!
Little more progress...
Managed to get all the status bar icons themed! I consider that great progress at the moment!

Almost there...
I'm pretty much there with what I want to do now, status bar sorted (don't know about the clock color yet) also went ahead and did the nav bar icons or prism icon as they call it, and change the home nav bar background to transparent to declutter it a bit.
I'll upload my systemui and prism files once I'm finished so anyone can have a go.
When the Viper team decide to throw a sense 5 rom out the tweaks are going to make everything soooooo much simpler! :good:

I got this idea from a thread where someone was asking for a certain icon pack and I suggested to go one by one and grab the icon from each apk. I then thought to myself that this could all be automated. So here it is:
Ultimate Extractor
HOW TO USE:
1. Download icex.zip
2. Make folder C:\icex
3. Extract files from icex.zip to C:\icex
4. Put the theme in C:\icex (has to have .zip extension)
5. Make sure that the theme is the only zip file in C:\icex
6. Now you have 4 choices:
-> 6a: If you want everything (.pngs, .jpgs, .xmls) run UltimateExtractor.bat
-> 6b: If you want only icons (icon.png or ic_launcher*.png) run IconExtractor.bat
-> 6c: If you want almost every single .png run PngExtractor.bat
-> 6d: If you want to run Ultimate Extractor on .apks and not a whole zip file, run UltimateExtractorApk.bat *NEW*
Thanks to ultra spikey for his theme porter script which I based mines off of and thanks to woelv for the thread that got me to do this.

-> 6a -> 2: Hit 'u' and enter at both prompts
-> 6b: If you dont want to be prompted, run IconExtractor_NoPrompt.bat
7. All the icons will now be in folder C:\icex\icons
The reason that the non prompting one won't give you all the icons is because a lot of icons are named "icon.png" so they end up overwriting each other. Also some of the ic_launcher* icons have the same name as well (such as ic_launcher_gallery). The prompting script gives you the option to automatically rename the .pngs as they are extracted. I will try and find a way around this eventually.
I will try to find a way to get all the icons without being prompted (its a 7z thing)

nice work! now you need another tool to repack the icons. so people can extract icons from one place and repack them automatically into another. that would be perfect since people who extract the icons want to use it for another app or theme.

This would make mylife ten times easier to port themes. I have to search through the whole rom to get the png's I need. It takes around 4 hours to do. Plus some of the older roms png's have different names for them. Mostly on the Framework. Does it extract the png's from the Framework as well?
Yea it should be doing so but ill double check to make sure
EDIT: no i wasnt doing it before but i implemented it now
ok new update
have everything in separate folders now
enjoy
ALSO, for anyone who's curious .. that 'huge bug' is due to some themes having an 'app' folder while others have 'system/app' ... my script wasnt working with the 'app' folder before ... now it tests for it
EDIT: had to re up it real quick with a small fix

This program works great....Only one thing though, on the launcher folder, seems like the png's w/ the same name get over writen. Example= "delete_handle" from Res/drawable-land AND Res/drawable-port aren't two different Png's. Maybe for this apk and others with thhe same folders, you could place them in the original folders----Drawable----Drawable-land----Drawable-port, as you said it work before hand. Some other folder/Png's are missing as well...
I tryed to use UltraSpikey's theme converter and was unsucessful. I was More accurate using this method, thanks to you... It is gladly appreciated...

Alrite just a couple questions about theming and customization.
I would like to apply your red sense theme.
-Do I have to use a rom or can I just apply it on my rooted phone?
-If I have to use a rom which do you suggest so I can still use the original internet app that came with the phone?
Thx for all your help!
Sent you a PM about this actually.
Whats the trick to enable transparency? Particularly the notification pull-down. I have already modified framework-res.apk to include the transparent images, however they are not displaying transparent when applied to the phone. I read a few things about hexing, and even found a 'transparency patcher' program from droid-forums. This patcher apparently, does the hex work for you on services.jar. However, it did not do the trick. What am I missing here?
I'm running my own fully deodexed custom rom based on the 2.2 sense leak.
I'm working on Transparency as well...I contacted Xeudoxus at droidforums...hopefully he can help.
I would just like to know how to manually change my icons and or folders on my home screen and in my app drawer. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I too would like to find out how to change the "Folders" icon from the plain manila to obviously something else.

All root themes will usually only work for the rom they are made for. Sometimes there are big changes to the firmware, sometimes little... a good rule of thumb is to always make a nandroid backup if your an early adopter. So long story short:
1. yes
2. whatever rom i made the theme for... you can only use the original browser app with sense

Changing folder icons/app icons: you're gonna have to theme the rom you're using
basic ingredients in no particular order:
1. update.zip- just download one of themes and the update script in there (META-INF) or make your own if you feel like learning the syntax
2. resigning tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3175518&postcount=2
3. 7zip for extracting apks
4. Android SDK
5. Lots of time
Start extracting apks and viewing the contents of res/drawable-hdpi---where you'll find icons
Most icons are named ic_launcher_XXXX.png, some are named app_icon, others are just simply icon... you'll have to look around to find them as there is no easy way to change them. Once you find the icon you want to replace, drop your new icon (with exactly the same name) into the same directory (preferably using 7zip since you don't have to have the directory extracted to replace it) and resign the entire zip file... flash zip and win!
So how much time do you think I would need if I was to do this? Just kidding looks like a pain in the ass. However, doable. Thanks for the link to signing the zip. Thought it just might be a bit easier. Hopefully soon I can change the plain folders to a picture of my girlfriend or something.

Signal Bars
I have seemed to try everything to change the signal bar(s) colors. I have changed all of the icons to a red theme and the only way I can think thats left is that it has to be hex coded. Important fact is I am running skyraider 2.0.1. Has anyone had any luck changing these?
It looks like all the mods I've seen are speific to certain ROMs. It's not just the version numbers (4.0.1, 4.0.2, etc.), but different ROMs built from different sources seem not to be compatible with each other as far as the mods go.
I'd like to have permanent Menu buttons and a search button in the bottom nav bar, but because of all the incompatibilities, I'm having a hard time finding the correct modded versions (I'm using P3Drod's 4.0.3 Tranquilice right now). So, I would like to be able to make my own softkey mod for whichever ROM I happen to be running. It looks like it's controlled by the SystemUI.apk file in /system/apps, and I tried decompiling it using APK Tool, making some changes to the XML files inside, and then recompiling it. But when I push it back ot the phone and reboot, the nav bar disappears altogether (along with the wallpaper), so I'm sure that I'm doing something wrong.
So, is there guide anywhere for modding SystemUI.apk to change the softkeys?
there's a few threads around here about that, use search.
/me sent this from a i9250 using Tapatalk
Just so you don't have to search here's a guide.
Grab the SystemUI.apk from the ROM you are currently on. Using WinRAR open the SystemUI.apk and drag the "res" folder out of it (Put it on the Desktop or something). Go into the res folder, then go into Drawable-XHDPI and the 2 things you need to modding the softbuttons are the following images:
"ic_sysbar_highlight.png"
"ic_sysbar_highlight_land.png".
Edit them 2 to what color you want, put the res folder back into the systemUI.apk and flash it.
Done.
Actually that doesn't help me -- I don't want to change the graphics, I want to change the behavior actual softkeys. I want to add a search key, and make the settins keys permantnely displayed. Tere are alreday a few mods like that available, but no for all the ROMs, so I'd like to be able to do one myself.
i'm curious of this too, because theres nothing made for what i specifically want my keys to be.
i've been desperately asking for a version with menu on both sides that only shows up when needed and then back, home, recent, search. and i've gotten ignored everywhere i've requested it.
and just as you, i can't find any guide to do it myself.
+3, there are no guides available I'd like to add the search as I am on tranq v5. I have figured out other systemui mods but I cannot takle this one

Sry to interupt. So if i want to change the graphics of the ROM I am currently on, I just need to open the zip file of my ROM in winrar, extract the systemui.apk and open that in winrar, too. Then I can replace the images in the res-> drawable HDPI folder by simply dragging my icons in there using winrar. Then just close Winrar and put the whole thing on my device ( the whole rom or just the systemui.apk? )
After that all I have to do is flash it using cwm? apply update from sd card or what?
Sry that i ask for detailed steps, but i am new to costumizing android -.-

This is for changing the background highlight.
There are also files in the drawable xhdpi that corresponding to the actual symbols. Replace these and flash the rom
-So..find prefered symbols(.png files called ic_sysbar_back) there will be nine of them
-grab a rom you want to flash( can be the same rom you are on.)
-use winrar or 7zip to get into the rom and go to systemui.apk/re/drwablexhdpi
-drag and drop new symbols file in( it will replace)...if you dont believe me you can organize the file by date an there will now be 9 folders with current date.
close it up and flash the rom via your favorite way.
this is how i did it. and there is at one guide out there...I used it.
have fun

only guides are for skinning. But if you want to make your own setup your screwed or have to figure it out on your own from scratch.

I as well would love to be able to add extra buttons to the soft key bar. I truly think this is where the Galaxy Nexus will shine.
Personally, I think that Back -- Home -- Search is the best implementation. Then long press on home for the MultiTasking/Recent menu, and long press on search for voice actions. But like the OP, I haven't found this implementation for AX10M ROM (Only AOKP) so I'm just sitting, waiting, wishing for a dev to pick it up. It doesn't seem too hard, so I don't think I'll be waiting long.. Just wish I could help in some way...

yep, you need to update apktool for use with Android 4.0
edit: more specifically...
-Wrong version of apktool (get the latest)
-Wrong verison of apktool dependancies files (same site)
-Wrong version of aapt.exe in Android SDK (get latest SDK)
Alright awesome I'll look into it tonight after work

I have the latest version of all of that and can decompile with apktool. The problem is when I build the new apk and copy over the edited files and push back to the phone the app won't work.
A run down of everything I did is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452530
Did u try putting it back in the flash able zip with 7 zip? I never use adb push.... in theory if u are able to compile the apk without errors it should work

I pulled the music apk, edited it, rebuilt it, and put the edited files back in the original apk. I did that because I don't know how to sign my own apk so I just used the already signed one with some edited png and xml files. The thing I don't understand is that I pulled an apk once and opened it via 7zip and edited some things, pushed it back and everything was fine (changed out some icons on the contacts.apk)
Do you know where an up-to-date theming guide can be found? I'm very interested in making my own themes instead of requesting themers to make one. Learning experience and all that jazz.
Thanks.

You can't replace xml's in that way.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
If u properly recompile the apk then yes u can .. u edit it all the XML s and pngs in the apk then recompile.. then drop the recompiled apk into the system app section of the rom u r using unless its the framework Res apk or other framework apk.. once u do this put the new rom zip back into your phone and flash in recovery ... bottom line I'm not the most experienced themer in the forums I just got the phone yesterday so its gonna take time for me to begin theming anything.. that being said perhaps if this thread stays open and more experienced themers can chime in with some tips and advice

Actually, GoogleMusic.apk is found in data/app not in system, at least in the ROM I am on. But, am I correct in assuming that I can do the same thing in this instance?
Furthermore, is there no way to theme a single application? Do I need to always theme an app, place it back into the ROM zip, and reflash said ROM?
Can I make my own flashable zip file for a single app?
Sorry to ask so many questions, I just really like tinkering with things and I would really like to get good at theming.

wut? i've never done what you guys have when it comes to compiling/decompiling and replacing stuff. i'm not so sure that works, but i'll take your word for it for now since i've never tried it either. in theory, you can decompile and change xml, recompile and replace that xml, but not if you're dealing with the actual xml folder in apks. your resources change when you mess with that. this is the same for changing smali, except something else changes (it's been a bit since i've dealt with actual dev stuff).
also, it's a big waste (and sometimes troublesome) to flash an entire ROM to update one or a few apks. making one for just testing out things in \system\ will save you time and frustration. you can also make a backup easier for if something bootloops you
Success!!!
All right, first and foremost, thank you immensely for all the suggestions Kevin and others as well.
Here's what I did. I searched the ROM zip to no avail, but then found the apk in the gapps zip. I took it out of there, decompiled, messed around with just a few png files, recompiled and put it back into the gapps zip. Flashed it and it worked. Problem is, only a couple of the edits I made showed up which brings me to my next issue, ICS optimised apps have a tonne of "drawable-***" folders. Drawable, drawable-hdpi, drawable-hdpi-v8,v9,v11, drawable-xdpi, etc....ad nauseum.
I am not messing with any smali code, xml files, or .9.png files yet as I don't know what smali does, xml is a headache, and I have heard horror stories about .9.png files.
I'm going to dink around and see if I can sort out what items need to be changed for my current dpi setting (241) and will report back any findings, but probably not tonight as I have an early course in the morning followed by work.

See this is how I read it too. I believe the OP means that he's making changes and then replacing the apk in the flashable zip. Not actually replacing the edited xmls in the original apk. Glad I'm not the only one that read it that way though

no decompiling is necessary for tweaking pngs.
smali code is for messing with policies, etc.
.9.png files can be a pain if you don't recompile the apk correctly.
and this should help with your dpi as far as what to edit so you can see it...

Ok, after seeing a few posts a few days ago talking about people having animated status bar pulldown backgrounds, I decided to do some research because I had never heard of this before.
I noticed that for some reason the mod stopped with ICS.
So I decided to create a thread on how to add this feature to your ROM, or the ROM you are currently running.
The edits are very simple, actually, pretty much exact to the GB version of the mod.... however, they can be a little time consuming based on just how many images you would like to add to your animation.
In POST #2, I have posted a guide on how to add add this feature to your TOUCHWIZ KITKAT 4.4.2 ND8/NDC ROM. (other phones also running touchwiz kitkat should be relatively similair, depending on if your systemui.apk is where the background is pulled from.)

Dev instructions
Dev instructions on how to add this mod to your touchwiz kitkat 4.4.2 based rom is located below:

NOTE: To get this to work with your rom... Read THIS POST..... To customize the animation read POST #3 and POST #4.

Step 1 - Download the AnimatedPulldownMod.zip I have attached below.
Step 2 - Open the zip and extract the two files somewhere on your desktop.
Step 3 - Decompile your systemui.apk from your rom using apktool or what ever tool you use to decompile apps.
Step 4 - Navigate to the res/drawable folder in your decompiled app and the "pulldown.xml" from my zip to this folder.....
Step 5 - Navigate to the res/drawable-xhdpi folder, (or whatever folder your rom uses), and do the same for the "pulldown_animxxxx.png" images into your open folder..... You can now delete my files.
Step 6 - Navigate to "res/layout" folder and open "status_bar_expanded.xml" open it with an xml editor such as notepad++ or virtuos ten studio.
Step 7 - In line 2 of that file you should see this..
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.phone.notificationpanelview android:id="@id/notification_panel" android:background="@drawable/twcustom"................
Click to collapse
change the background to look like this android:background="@drawable/pulldown" so the image background gets directed to the pulldown.xml file you just put in your res/drawable folder.
Step 8 - Save and close this file now to prevent any conflicts while recompiling the app.
Step 9 - Once you have the images in the proper folder, edited the status_bar_expanded.xml file, and put the pulldown.xml file in your res/drawable folder... Recompile your apk and name it something different, like new.apk...
Step 10 - Open both the original systemui.apk and the new new.apk you just built, with 7-zip (that is what i recommend)
Step 11 - Drag the resourses.arsc and classes.dex file from the new.apk into the original systemui.apk.... Do the same for the res folder in the new.apk
Step 12 - Add to your rom and enjoy!!!

Dev/Themer Instructions
THEMER INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREATING YOUR OWN ANIMATIONS AND EDITING THE ABOVE FILES TO WORK WITH YOUR NEW ANIMATIONS.
Please remember to hit thanks if you like or use this mod.β
This guide is assuming you have either performed the DEV MOD in the post above or you are on a rom that has.... AND..... you already have the custom images you would like to use for your animation. If you do not, I recommend reading the guide created by @erikalin on how to create your own images
erikalin said:
If you ever want to learn, the tutorial I made up on another device thread shows the process. I made a video tutorial too - me talking and walking through the process of grabbing a video and turning it into an animation. FWIW, just sharing the love. Link is: written tutorial or video tutorial. Just replace with your own image sizes and file names, same process.

As stated above, the process is the same.
You could also search GOOGLE or XDA FORUMS for how to create frame by frame png animations... WARNING!!! It can be time consuming.
NOTE:Read POST #4 to learn how to create a flashable zip for other users of your, and all other roms based on your phone carriers android version that have the mod above, to use.

Ok, so if you want to use a different animation than what i have inside the mod, you will have to edit the xml inside of Systemui.apk.
Step 1 - Decompile the SystemUI.apk that already has the mod described in POST #2
Step 2 - Navigate to the res/drawable folder and open pulldown.xml
Step 3 - Count HOW MANY images are in your animation
Step 4 - Add or remove these lines
<item android:duration="100" android:drawable="@drawable/pulldown_animXXXX" />
Click to collapse
in that xml file you just opened to match the amount of images in your animation (see the next step to see what to name the images)
(THIS FILE ONLY CONTAINS THIS SPECIFIC MOD... DO NOT WORRY ABOUT BREAKING ANYTHING ELSE IF YOU MESS UP...OTHER THAN THE SYSTEMUI FORCE CLOSING WHEN REBOOTING....THIS IS WHERE THE BACKUP COMES IN HANDY.... JUST FOLLOW THE NEXT STEP AND YOU WILL BE OK) (USE THAT FILE AS A TEMPLATE FOR HOW YOURS SHOULD LOOK ONCE FINISHED) (REMEMBER TO HIT SAVE ONCE YOU ARE DONE EDITING THIS XML FILE.)
Step 5 - Rename your images to "pulldown_animXXXX.png" ... replacing the "XXX" with numbers starting at 0 ---> so if you have 10 images, you will start with pulldown_anim0 and end with pulldown_anim9
Step 6 - Move those newly named images to the res/drawable-xhdpi folder
Step 7 - Recompile the app and name it something else other than SystemUI.apk
Step 8 - Open BOTH the original SystemUI.apk and the new apk you just created with 7-zip
Step 9 - Drag the "resources.arsc" file, "classes.dex" file and the entire "res" folder from the NEW apk INTO THE ORIGINAL SYSTEMUI.APK
Step 10 - Push the MODIFIED systemui.apk (NOT THE NEW ONE YOU JUST CREATED) into the priv/app folder on you phone with a root explorer and reboot..... or remove the systemui from my zip above and replace with yours and flash.....
Step 11 - ENJOY!!!

instructions for adding animated pulldown barβ
Follow this if you are on the STOCK systemui.apk
Step 1 - Download the zip below.
Step 2 - In your decompiled systemui.apk, Navigate to the res/drawable folder and drop all 3 xmls from the zip, into this folder.
Step 3 - Navigate to the res/drawable-xhdpi and drop the images from the zip into this folder.
Step 4 - Recompile the apk and enjoy.
Note: Use the same methods for the previous posts to customize your own animation.... what i did was put the same animation on both the close and open animations.... but you can have one for opening and one for closing... your choice.

Sweet... guess my issues going above 30 were isolated.... I WAS playing with the animation duration time so that was prolly my issue.

I wasnt successful turning the 111 image into a zip though. The systemui I modified works, but once I make a zip out of it and flash it, it breaks the apk as before. I went back to the working nandroid and was able to flash the other 28 image one that I put together (I went back and forth between the Autobot and deception anims)
I may be zipping the 111 image XML and images wrong though?? ... I was pretty tired last night when messing around.

OK. After thinking about it... I do believe that it is my mod....
I don't think I have it set up to ALLOW FOR flashable zips with different amounts of images....
I may have to remove that post or redo the mod....
I would like to test my theory with what you have before I do that tho...
I would also like to state that i am not a dev... So I think its something that I wasn't aware of.....
But again I would like to test it before I go into all of that...
So when ever ya get a chance would be great.... Won't be able to redo the post or the mid for a few more hours.... So no rush... Just whenever ya get a chance.

I've actually been looking into this myself, because I want to implement the ability to be able to switch between static pulldowns and animated pulldowns for MOAR
What I was thinking is the following (for making ANY number of pulldown images work, including a static one)
In xml, remove the reference to @ drawabe/pulldown (we'll define it via smali)
Add an init.d script that reads SystemUI.apk, checks to see how many pulldown_XX pngs there are and dynamically generates a pulldown.xml file that references each of those files. It then places this pulldown.xml file somewhere in the system (/data, /sdcard whatever)
In the smali, SystemUI, instead of loading a drawable named pulldown from it's resources, loads the pulldown.xml file we created with the script (using the createFromPath method from the Drawable api) and voila, pulldown that animates if there are multiple images, or is static when there is only 1 image.

And that's why ur the boss man....
I wish I had the knowledge to add those edits to smali.... But I have only made edits to smali that you and tdunham directed me to in ur flashlight thread.... When I was trying to workout the missing toggle icon issue....
Other than that I have absolutely no knowledge of CREATING lines in smali or working with strings....
I will have to wait to see what you do with the mod on moar to even get an idea of how to do this... But you would prolly become willing to edit it for wicked x before i could figure that out lol...
I AM a quick learner... As some may have noticed..... But that's a little to high above my current level of knowledge to even have something close this MONTH.....
Can't wait to see what ya do with it man............
And I feel kinda honored to see ya taking this mod even further... Even tho I'm technically not the creator.... Just the modder lol.

I Literally JUST edited post 4 and then i saw your post... .had to add that info to that post and re edit it lol.... cant wait to see what ya can do on that front man.... again... i will look at it to see if i can figure out what you are referring to (and i say that due to my level of knowledge on smali) but i will prolly not see it until i can compare with yours... but by then we can just use urs... maybe lol

Click to collapse
sitting here thinking about it... i had a thought since ya said the pulldown.xml would be placed SOMEWHERE....
how bout seeing if the init.d script can read another location for the images... such as "sdcard/pulldown animation".... and plays the animation from that location outside of the systemui.apk....... then have the smali point to that location on the sdcard.... just remove the background from systemui.apk completely.... then the animation can be changed by a simply placing the images in that folder and reboot without flashing or modding the apk at all....
there would be no need for users to need a computer to zip the file and no need for flashing.. just place and reboot
because (and i could be wrong) each flashable zip to change animations would need to have a script that removed the current images from the apk before placing the new animation.... otherwise, flashing a 30 image ani over a 50 image ani would give part of the old one playing at the end of the new one cause the pulldown.xml still reads that there are 50 images......
again... thats your front.... but was just an idea i had after reading your post again.... ur way would prolly be better.. this is just a thought that popped up, i always trying to mod things... even if it aint here yet apparently lol
