I was hoping that someone could create a flashable zip that includes stock ICS blue softkeys, like the attached zip, that also includes a blue "hide keyboard" button as well. I'm currently running CM10 so if it can work with that, that would be great.
Thanks in advance

That is already a flashable zip.. well partially.. all you have to do is Download ZipThemer and using ZipThemer make a flashable with the included Zip. If you've never made one before i have a tutorial in my Themes OP. Its linked in the Main Page at the bottom.
I'm trying to stay away from ZipThemer, and I'll explain why. It appears that when making a flashable zip in ZipThemer, it backs up EVERYTHING from your systemUI.apk, adds in the themed files, and zips it all up. I've run into an issue the past week with not being able to see the new battery circle mod included in the latest CM10 as well as not being able to customize the icons on my navbar. I found out that an old ZipThemer mod was to blame.
Basically, I don't want to create a new ZipThemer mod every time my rom has new features added. How can I make a flashable zip without ZipThemer?

Take the SystemUI.apk from your ROM.zip 7zip extract the file contents. In /res/drawable-xhdpi you will find the softkeys. Take the images from the Zip you have and paste them in the folder (they should already have the correct file names.) Then put the /res/drawable-xhdpi back into the archive of the original APK. Then put that apk in a flashable and flash away. You can just gut a Flashable zip *i have one in my MMS tutorial* .
Which is not as easy as a ZipThemer.. you'll also have to redo this entire process everytime you flash a new nightly.. you'll either get lost in a bootloop... the systemui will force close.. or you'll be absolutely fine.. but have an old SystemUI.

Same thing as ZipThemer... but does things differently. I would just make the zipthemer. And when you need to update all you have to do is update the zipthemer to flash it. Its a vrtheme and creates extra folders.
Alright, I'll do it in ZipThemer then. Anyway, can someone with good photo editing skills color ic_sysbar_back_ime and ic_sysbar_back_ime_land so they are the same ICS blue as the files in my first zip? I have attached the files.

I have a full set of ics blue nav buttons. I can make a ZipThemer for you if you like. The reason ZipThemer is the best way o go, is that it uses your exact SystemUI to make the package. No bootloops that way. Yes, you'll have to remake the update.zip every time you update your rom, but you use the same ZipThemer theme each time. And it seriously only takes about 3 minutes to do each time anyway, which is quicker than pulling your apk & swapping out images with 7zip. And you don't get the duplicate drawable folders like with vr-theme or universal flasher. I actually made a theme chooser for a customer last night with just ics blue navkeys & custom lockring. Strangest request I've ever had.

Adding Ext Power as well as % Battery Mod is very easy thanks to Jim Panses super Arbeit
Many thanks also to Dena and whiskeybro for their Theme as well as vukandric for the Gingerbread theme.
This is how I did it on Darky's Rom, but it should theoretically work for any Rom based on JPU.
Possibly the Rom needs to be deodexed what most custom roms are anyway.
You will possibly lose animations but there is an easy way to get them back!
Read end of post for this!
Ok let's get started with the simple (but limited) method.
Step 1:
Download the theme from Dena, the Gingerbread Theme as well as the framework-res.apk attached to this post. Put them on your SD card.
Step 2:
Install Dena's Theme with extended Power Menu
Step 3:
Install Gingerbread Theme
Step 4:
With Root Explorer copy the framework-res.apk file out of this thread to /system/framework
Your system will most likely crash after that and reboot with the new framework-res.apk active. Then change the permissions to 644 meaning all boxes in the first column selected as well as the topmost row of the second column selected. All else unselected.
Done!
This should work for any rom, but I can't confirm it yet.
For anyone interested in making their own themes compatible with ext pwr + % battery here is the more complicated way to do this and the way I actually did it:
Step 1:
You will need Dena's Theme again as a base as well as a another theme that already has the % battery but lacks the power menu. (It work too if you don't have % battery yet, but then only for the ext Power Menu)
Step 2:
Extract the framework-res.apk of each theme.
Step 3:
copy everything from framework-res.apk\res\drawable-hdpi of the theme you want to use into the same (sometimes also called "...\drawable-hdpi-v4") folder within the framework-res.apk of Dena's Theme.
Do not extract the framework-res-apk files. Use 7-zip to open them and do the copying!
Step 4:
Do the steps from the "simple" guide but instead of gingerbread theme you use your theme of choice and the framework-res.apk you use is the one you created.
Animations:
Many Themes use custom animations now.
The most common is the fly-in animation.
These animations might be lost with this method.
To get them back simply download the "Animations.zip" from this thread. Extract and move to /sdcard/AndroidThemes and then install with Metamorph (app can be found on market)
Here is another way provided by kenkiller

differently themed maybe, but it should still work as they are all based on the same framework-res.apk (that of JPU)
Animations are gone, but I have a good idea how to fix this
Animations are what puts Darkyy's ROM apart. Apart from his very good themed colors & graphics.
Thank you for the credits!

it's pretty easy to regain the animations if u prefer the original.
Just extract the anim folder inside darkky's framework-res.apk with 7zip, and then overwrite the same folder and contents with the framework-res.apk you intend to copy to ur phone. But in the case of animations, it's needed to clear dalvik cache in CWM.
This actually does work on most custom roms, as long as they are deodexed.. Great work though..
Is it also possible to only add ext menu and keep glass window lock screen? I like the instant sms reader

There should be a frameworks_res_background_holo_dark.png file inside the theme file. Replace it with a black png. This way you get to keep your existing theme while changing the background.
If it isn't there, you'll need to replace the file background_holo_dark.png inside your framework-res.apk file under the drawable folder

Glad it worked for you. I haven't written a guide, but its really not hard. I make them on my phone using root explorer. Extract the zip and have a look. You'll see that there is a folder for the apk(s) you want to theme without the .apk file extention. Subfolders inside that are structured exactly the same as inside the apk. Then you have the xml file that tells ZipThemer where to put what. Using the same format, create a line for each apk you're theming, followed by a line describing the path. Edit the author, theme name and description. Once you're done, zip the whole thing up & it's ready to go.

Nah, you have to edit it yourself. Go to my ghost thread and download the theme. Unzip it and study the file structure and xml structure in ghost.xml. Should give you a feel for it. Images will theme on any rom using this method, but you've got to be careful with adding xml files to the app folders. Some xml, especially layout stuff will break some roms. That's why I've only made ghost for stock roms.

Hello fellow xda members,
can someone help me to create a flashable .zip file for PA with the attached pictures of my own Softkey creation?
I tried myself, replaced the images in another flashable file for PA, tried zipThemer but nothing worked... :crying:
I think there could be other members who like those softkeys, they would appreciate it as much as me. If you're a themer and want to implement the softkeys in your theme, feel free to do so!
Attached is an overview and the individual pics, you do not see the individual pics since they have a transparent backgroung, but they are there

it's actually quite simple to do yourself for future versions and requires nothing more than 7-zip. you are just modifying the images in SystemUI.apk, and 7-zip won't affect the signatures.
1. open (open, not extract) the ROM zip with 7-zip, and browse to "system/app/SystemUI.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi".
2. drag your images into "drawable-xhdpi" folder in 7-zip, it will overwrite the existing softkeys. you will see a prompt asking if you want to replace those files, say yes.
3. close 7-zip, you will be asked if you want to update the archive, say yes.
4. follow standard flashing procedure with the modded ROM zip.
i am not familiar with vrtheme or zipthemer, so i only know the "old-fashioned" way of modding your SystemUI.apk, so if you upload that, i could help also. liquid150 has already nicely offered to help, hopefully more knowledgeable about that sort of thing
Thanks, for the guide. I was trying it that way, but with another program than 7zip. Unfortunately I'm on a Mac and there is only an unofficial 7zip version. Will try that out.
But how do you open the SystemUI.apk inside the archive?

ahh i didn't know about there not being an official Mac version.. well, assuming the unofficial version functions the same way, when you open the archive, you can click into the .apk files as if they were folders. so as you are clicking down into the folders, just double-click the SystemUI.apk and it opens into the apk folder structure.
or you could always just extract the SystemUI.apk from the ROM and do the 7-zip modifications directly in the apk file. then make your own little flashable zip with just that apk to put it back onto your phone.
Working on a ZipThemer zip where this will be Universal for ya give me a few.
That sounds awesome, ÜBER!!!

Weird.. :S anyways you forgot the landscape softkeys.. which i am making my self.. as well as modding the little menu for my personal use. This is what it looks like. Im using the original menu key you had as the menu_big.
Looks very nice.
I created those keys a while back and used them in an AOKP version in which you could change the softkey pics in the ROM's settings. I never used anything in landscape mode, this is why I left it out.
PA moves the navbar to the bottom of the screen when switching into landscape, so I thought I don't need it since I always used PA in TabletUI.
But thanks for your efforts and making the png's for landscape mode

If it's an app or some add in like that (for example the Note 2 keyboard) then those are interchangeable. But core apps like SystemUI are not because they are built off the SystemUI that THEY got for their update, and not the one that we got
You can get a transparent status bar by using Morphology I think

If you're just wanting to change out PNGs, you can normally take the apk change it to systemui.zip open it as an archive with 7zip, do the same for your systemui then rename and replace the PNGs, save the modified zip, rename it to .apk again and then pack it into a flashable zip for your device then flash and profit. SystemUI is a royal PITA to try to push on a running device, however if your ADB proficient you can push it with adb while in recovery.
I should add if you need to change anything in the source decompiling is a must, but PNG image changes can usually be swapped out without needing to decompile. I've been themeing my playstore updates that way since the new play store 4 popped up and keeps being updated every week or so.

That's what I thought! But i'm pretty sure if you decompile the SystemUI.apk, you can flash the PNG manually. I don't like the changes that Morphology offers, thanks though.

Yo u don't have to change everything in morphology. You can only change the status bar to transparent if that's what you are going for. Everything else can be left alone.

Are there modded toggles out for UVDMD5?
I tried doing it by hand but can't seem to decompile SystemUI.apk.
If there is one already done I would rather just copy the files over.
Thanks in advance.

You can try this if you like, this is a full theme with toggles like you never seen, this is the most graphical,
fancy, colorful and professional theme I have ever seen on a cellphone.
This theme comes with statusbar mod'ed battery, wifi, signalbar and other mod'ed graphics and backgrounds.
Another nice thing about this theme is that it automatically makes a backs up a cwm/twrp flashable zip file
so if you happen not to like it at all, you can revert back to whatever you have now.
Here is the link: JB_MAD_THEME
Give it a try!
