Hahaha seriously gingerbread is just so much better the leaks suck but the official is beautiful. Overclocking to 1.4 on froyo was burning my hands OC on GB is cold as ice....... there's just so much more stability on gingerbread if you know what your doing.

Yeah I don't understand either. Gingerbread is like 10 times faster with more memory free than Froyo was on my phone but to each their own I guess.

So you are saying I can safely run GB as a daily driver with no problems in wifi, 4g, gps, or any of the other odd quirks here and there? Or is it not quite there yet?
I am waiting in the wings for a solid stock like build with Sprint TV which actually is the only Sprint app that I would like to work and keep.
I am hoping to have a good GB daily driver!

I have been running GB since EF02 and never had any wifi or 4G issues and always was able to run Sprint TV. GPS was reduced to less satellite locks to conserve battery. The great Devs here ported the Fascinate library files to give us full locks again. I recommend Legendary 2.1 which has the GPS fixed library and the patch for key skips as well as a bunch of other goodies.

it was sooo damn close to being released too. Its probably the Official GB that killed the release. Apparently its still being worked on.

What you are seeing is a lot more apps loading themselves into memory whenever the heck they want to. I froze all the recent extras that I don't use like Google Talk, Google +, Maps, and a few others. Memory Booster Lite helped me see all the apps loading into memory to freeze or uninstall. I have no memory leaks, kill those apps in MBL task killer and I usually have 180MB free.

Most stable gingerbread

I have spent the past week trying out several gingerbread ROMs trying to find one that I'd stable enough for daily use. The most impressive one I used was ASC Bamboozled v1.1. It was super quick and had some cool animations like the TV animation when you turned it off. I would like something kinda of like that. I know that the gingerbread ROMs have a reboot issue and that doesn't bother me too much. It is a slight annoyance but not a deal breaker. With the source of gingerbread from Samsung floating around I was wondering if there were any stable ROMs yet.

The animation is called CRT on and off I believe.

cm7 is the best. no reboots but it hasn't no 4g, which suxs.
I thought about cm7 but I heard there is a issue with voice calls and some of the standard things didn't work. Has that changed with the source? Nit worried about 4g seeing I don't live in a spot that has it. Yep throwing away $10 a month. I hate it.

Until the EXT4 kernel is released from source, find yourself a good stock RFS prerooted EH17 ROM to Odin and then Odin in mkasick's kernel from the new source. I don't think anyone put together a new ROM with the new kernel yet besides CM7. Or wait a few more days and I am sure there will be some.

Of all the GB roms, Thunderhawk has been the most stable for me.
Hands down acs ics. Its super stable and fast and its ics themed. cyanogen is also great if you don't mind losing 4g and video. Although battery on both roms are fantastic. I get about 18 hours average on acs and about 23 on cyanogen. And thats with a stock battery with moderate use. Ive been switching back and forth for a while now. But been running acs as my default rom. I havent had one problem with it at all. No reboots, lags, gps lock issues, or things of that sort.

Here's the thing about 'stability'. All the GB roms look wonderful out of the gate and perform flawlessly for 3-4 days and then start to disintegrate, act out, cause FCs and freezes. If you want serious stability, you need to use a Froyo rom. If you don't mind a few inconveniences, CM7 is the way to go. It is the most stable of the GB roms and many phone owners are very excited about its possiblities down the road. Honestly, I work in a hi-rise in San Francisco and I don't even miss the 4G, the phone is that fast. The battery life alone is worth the call sound and video issues which are minor at best. IMHO.
everyones phone is different
some people have issues with cm7 and acs ics, and some people dont. so best idea is test drive both roms, to see have your phone acts it them. and with the video issue there are other players in the both markets that can help with that. and with cm7 its just plug and play no extra steps to get it to work and with acs ics there other things you have to do to get it to rite.
ACS ICS seems to be pretty good so far. No major concerns to this point, albeit early stages of testing.

Don't you know not to invest in something for features it may have one day... that's what got us into trouble with the Epic 4G in the first place (6 month late Froyo, endlessly delayed Gingerbread, TV Out, FM radio...)!
Anyways, whenever someone asks "what's the best rom?", you'll always get very biased responses. You'll generally hear cries of "ACS!" and "Cyanogen!". While the acclaim is generally deserved, my own testing hasn't yet shown anything too fantastic in their current GB versions. ACS ICS has a somewhat glitchy launcher, but if you like it have at it. CM7 did not have anything special I could find, nor did it perform to my typical battery standards.
Try them all out, each has their own merits and each phone performs differently with different roms. Don't forget the others like Hurricane or Urban.
Or you can just follow the crowd .
When I came to XDA, I read the threads under each ROM to see what the features were and what problems people were having. People coming here now are too damn lazy to do this and want us to tell them exactly what to put on their phone. I would lke nobody to answer threads on "what's the best ROM" and maybe people will stop being lazy and read.
If everyone liked the same thing there would be only 1 rom. Read like kenny and random suggested. Find the one with the most features that you personally need or want. I try just about every rom on here and always find my way back to thunderhawk. It just has the best mix of all the features I need working.

[Q] CM7 ROM or EI22 ROMs

Just curious, I've been using the CM7 ROM since the last update. I want to try a EI22 ROM but want to know if the bugs and other problems are worth it. this CM7 ROM I have been using had been the best ROM I ever installed, no issues, my wifi always works, GPS, no reboots. The only small issue I have is no charging when the phone is off.
Just want a few opinions from people who went from CM7 to EI22 roms.

Be it poor battery life, MMS not working, audio bugs, Pandora not playing, GPS not locking, whatever, ICS sucks on the E4GT. I dont get how you all are having issues with ICS Ive used ROMs from Venum, and other members of Team Venum. Using Dazed's Wicked Sensation 1.5 now. Great battery life, plenty fast for me. I did change the Kernel and modem to FF02 though. seems to work best for my phone. Ive used Blend, Blu Kuban, Anakonda, Boa, ICE, AOKP, CM9, Frankenstein's ego. Never had an issue with any of them. Well... except for not flashing AOKP right a couple times. Got it figured out fairly quickly Even running Placebo tweaks and havent had issues at all. One thing or another may not work on one ROM or another. but always found a work around for them. Im just learning all this stuff though. Havent really gotten in to the meat an potatos of it all yet. But Im learning.
Anyways... long answer just to say I Love ICS. Cant wait to try Jellybean.

I love ics but the horrible speeds I encounter with my bandwidth brought me back to gb. I tried everything to get descent speeds and ended up losing the battle. Even resorted going back to stock ota and bringing the phone to Sprint so they could look at it. GB is the place to be for me and my bandwidth. I just wish the forum would branch sub cats for ics and GB users so I don't have to scroll for 20 mins looking for old GB roms

[Q] Why are people still using Gingerbread roms?

I'm... really confused. Someone please enlighten me.
Because the EVO was made for GB ROMS. The hardware is compatible with GB.
You can load a custom ICS or JB ROM from the many available here but I don't think they have HWA. They are also not 4G compatible and if you have good 4G in your area then it does not make any sense as to why you would go with a non 4G ROM. Also, FFC and a bunch of other stuff does not work with ICS or GB. The processing power of the EVO is also a little weak for the animations of ICS or JB.
^ This.
Perhaps if HTC had ever released the source code for the drivers for things like 4G and the FFC, ICS and JB ROM's would be more popular and more people would use them. As it stands now, Gingerbread doesn't have any of the above issues-it just works, plain and simple.
Sent using my HTC EVO 4G and a magic wand
Because pretty much everything works. No lag and like HD2FORNICK said, this phone, by hardware, is designed for GB

Ics and JB don't have hard ware acceleration?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
ICS and JB certainly do. But not for this phone. Drivers have to be compiled to specific hardware. To do that, the ROM maker will either need to build the driver from scratch, or have the source code and make modifications. HTC never released the source code for the drivers, so no hw accel for ICS and JB. You cant use the same drivers across two different OSes, even for the same harware. Oh well...

Decks Reloaded is amazing. It just flies and nothing ever FCs.
Even though I live in an area with great Wimax coverage, I never use it. It kills my battery so quickly. That's why I'm trying out an ICS ROM right now and I've also been trying out some JB ROMS. Had to drop JB because Bluetooth wouldn't work right in any of the ROMS I used.
Long story short, if it wasn't for the advanced notifications and status bar in ICS, I wouldn't ever use anything other than Decks Reloaded on my Evo 4g. Try it. It's so damn smooth.

I don't know if anyone is picking up on the trends here. But you will notice people basically stating they either use or in some way shape or form revert back to gb to get things done or perform functions that should be trivial. With that in mind it becomes clearer and clearer that samsungs implementation (not Google) of ics is seriously flawed. I can only pray that jb doesn't turn out like ics.

Only reason still on GB is not sure how to pop up to ICS or Jelly a little confused and looking for a good how to upgrade breakdown tutorial.
I would've stayed on blazer or any gingerbread if YouTube and Songza were usable, no 4G in my area and those apps would just keep loading on 3g. I honestly don't see any difference in battery life with gingerbread and the newer ICS roms, only slight speed difference.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
i went to JB/ICS but the download speeds are so much slower for me on them so i stick to GB to tether to my laptop.
Me. just all around more stable and faster to me.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I'm running blazer 4.1 because the GB data speeds/ping are better than ICS/JB. I can't stand the touchwiz super-scroll and AOSP ICS/JB still has the 4G bug. Once AOSP fixes the 4G bug I will update. I have never had battery problems on any Rom.
