Just wondering if you guys are sticking to GB and why. I've tried FF18 and it's okay. CM9 is amazing but I don't think its solid like EL29 (IMO). But overall CM9 is solid. No flaming but I want to hear what you guys think.

Sucking on Call's EL29 for the battery life and lack of bugs.
None of the ICS builds last me a whole work day. GB gives me a consistent 18 - 36 hours depending on usage.

Back to the one truly perfect rom (Calk's EL29) for me, too. I've tried ICS in many flavors (Calk's, mijj's, Phantom's) and they all have various issues. Be it poor battery life, MMS not working, audio bugs, Pandora not playing, GPS not locking, whatever, ICS sucks on the E4GT. The only ICS ROM that I've had any success with was CM9, but I use AllShare almost daily so that isn't a go for me.

I dont get how you all are having issues with ICS Ive used ROMs from Venum, and other members of Team Venum. Using Dazed's Wicked Sensation 1.5 now. Great battery life, plenty fast for me. I did change the Kernel and modem to FF02 though. seems to work best for my phone. Ive used Blend, Blu Kuban, Anakonda, Boa, ICE, AOKP, CM9, Frankenstein's ego. Never had an issue with any of them. Well... except for not flashing AOKP right a couple times. Got it figured out fairly quickly Even running Placebo tweaks and havent had issues at all. One thing or another may not work on one ROM or another. but always found a work around for them. Im just learning all this stuff though. Havent really gotten in to the meat an potatos of it all yet. But Im learning.
Anyways... long answer just to say I Love ICS. Cant wait to try Jellybean.

I love ics but the horrible speeds I encounter with my bandwidth brought me back to gb. I tried everything to get descent speeds and ended up losing the battle. Even resorted going back to stock ota and bringing the phone to Sprint so they could look at it. GB is the place to be for me and my bandwidth. I just wish the forum would branch sub cats for ics and GB users so I don't have to scroll for 20 mins looking for old GB roms

Exactly why I said hold off. There hasn't been a noticeable improvement since the mid fc15 builds.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I had some problems with FD02 but it may have been applications. Some applications would freeze the phone or sometime just bringing up messages would lock the phone up. I would just have to wait for lock screen, then unlock and see what crashed. The older versions seem slightly more stable in my experience.
If you are working fine, stable with FC22 there's no reason to be flash crazy. Right now they all have their own issues that seem to be a bit different for everyone.
Wait until a Beta finally shows up, or you hear a lot of rave about a certain new leak and try then.. but right now not 'much' is changing from one leak to another.
huge difference the fd05 is the smoothest release yet
definitely flash
I normally don't upgrade til at least three builds newer are out if that makes sense. Unless there is a huge improvement. I am on FD02 and will most likely stay on it until FD10 is released, if it is released. If you are on a setup right now and its working for you. Hang tight. Cause as soon as you flash FD02/05 then FD10 will be out. Just my thoughts on it.
Are you guys talking about Modem or Kernel?
I have been running the FD10 Modem and Kernel on a FD02 build for the last few days and honestly it seems silky smooth for me. No scripts or undervolting at this point and so far I am getting good battery life out of it too.
I'm on calkulin's E4GT2 v.1.4. (FD02). The only bugs I've seen are that some apps aren't compatible, and the sound notification issue. It doesn't support boot animations and i wouldn't chance flashing any themes. It does support different launchers like go launcher so you can theme it that way. Other than that it is very smooth and solid with EVERYTHING else working including hotspot. Good battery life and no over heating. Came from blazer 4.1 which is awesome and very customizable but caused some battery issues. Although there is a stick FD10 posted in the Dev section, there aren't any custom Roms running on FD10. So I'm gonna stick with Calkulins fdo2 until i see something better. I have tried the goodness and its also good but only 4g hotspot. I need 3g so it was a no.go. Hope this was helpful and as far as SOLID ROMS GO Calkulins are the beast! Thanks calk for all you do. Always go with him first. Sent from my E4GTouch myself oh baby i love this phone

Heck ya the latest fdo2 Calkins rom is da sheezy!
I understand the E4GT just got ICS, and, according to many people, it is filled with bugs. But would making an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM be too terribly hard? As I understand, the reason making the ICS ROMs was so difficult was because it was a massive upgrade that completely skipped one step in between. Hence why the update took so long in the first place. But since Jelly Bean is just a few enhancements over ICS, would it be difficult to port a Jelly Bean build over to the E4GT? Just a thought I had jumbling around in the ol' noodle lol Thank you for any answers or responses

To correct your understanding, ICS ROMs (as in TouchWiz) weren't difficult to make at all. It was ROMS like AOKP, CM9, etc that were more difficult. It was mainly due to not having kernel source for ICS. There are already some developers working on porting Jelly Bean over, you'll just have to wait a little bit more.

My battery life has seemed extensively better than with el29. That's not to say I didn't have satisfactory battery life prior to ff18. I seem to get maybe 12 or 13 hours out of ff18 whereas I would only get 10 or so with el29. Then again, I'm also constantly tweaking my running tasks and such so my battery life generally is much longer than many of my friends lol but yes I have seen some major improvements all across the board with ICS, as well as some bugs here and there.

I manually updated to ff18 from the post by sfhub including what he said was the exact same build as the OTA update. The process used odin to flash the build onto my phone. Upon recieving the update, after a day of use I had some debilitating lag and hanging all over the place. So I was curious as to what wiping the cache and such would do. I went into the stock recovery (not CWM) and did a wipe data/factory reset, then wipe dalvik cache, then I did a reboot from stock recovery. Since then, the only bugs I have noticed are the task manager aesthetic bug, and a few hang ups here and there. However, battery life hasn't been an issue, I haven't had issues with wifi or force closing, and overall it has been an enjoyable experience. I still use the ff18 build daily.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Don't do a factory reset with the stock recovery. That bricked a lot of phones. Even the OTA FF18 stock kernel was released with this bug. Use one of Agat63's new kernels or Calkulins format all zip. No bricks reported with either of those methods.
ICS Battery life.
I haven't tried factory reseting or wiping cache, but I know personally my battery life went to $hit when I tried any and all ICS leaks. I get far superior battery life out of el29 gingerbread with MIUI on my S2. Only way I think I'll update to ICS is if Jellybean comes out to put over top of it.
For what it's worth, when I first rooted my E4GT back in May I had terrible battery life as well. It has come a long way. There are lots of ROM's to choose from but the Blu Kuban (you have to enjoy the theme) has been excellent with battery life. I had 24 hrs yesterday with email, voice, some messaging and web. Attached is a screen shot showing what I have as of now. Of course there are apps that drain the phone but they did that on GB as well. I have not regretted ICS at all.

Its funny how much this question gets asked. I would read up thoroughly on how to flash Roms and root or whatever it is you you want to do and go to the development section read about what is going on and how to install whatever ROM you want to try and try it, see how it works for you and if you don't like take it off. Trial and error is your best bet just make sure you aren't blindly flashing and installing stuff if you don't know what you are doing. Qbking77 has a lot of helpful videos on YouTube also.

Stay on whatever modem works best for you man, it varies area to area phone to phone.... insofar as roms I'm loving sbrissens aosp jelly bean, which is extremely stable for an alpha and a great daily driver... should you want something that's 100% more or less though I'd look into either blue Kuban or goodness, both of which are ics touchwiz based like caulks ROM...

I just picked up one of these phones to replace an original epic 4g (thing was great but after being dropped 5007 times it finally quit). I was using CM9 for a while on it but the GPS seemed flakey from time to time. As far as on this model, does GPS work well with CM9? The main things I need the phone to do without fail is make phone calls and GPS.
With that said, would CM9 be the suggested route or another basic rom?

+1 here
Great battery life and everything works flawlessly. Don't need to do any special tweaking or disabling or vodoo to get good battery life and have a stable phone.

I'm on GB too unnamed rom now.I just wish there were more GB roms out.
I am also. Because it is way smoother than ics. Really the only reason battery wise I got same on ics as gb. But can't wait to get the jb update!

Isn't it true the MHL video only works on GB also?

MHL works on ICS flawlessly,on touchwiz roms only though, so.

I get better performance and better battery life on FI27 then 2.3.6 GB. Time to move on.. Oh and don't have to tweak anything

Just switched back to UnNamed for the weekend. When i need to 100% depend on my phone, GB is always there for me and never fails me.
Unforuntely Im a flash addict so i will keep switching roms. But can always depend on good ol' gingerbread

I keep a Blazer 4.1 always ready and load it regularly to update apps then re-backup. By far the most reliable I've had. I'm on venum Fi27 right now. Its the best ICS I've had so far.

better battery life...
I don't know if anyone is picking up on the trends here. But you will notice people basically stating they either use or in some way shape or form revert back to gb to get things done or perform functions that should be trivial. With that in mind it becomes clearer and clearer that samsungs implementation (not Google) of ics is seriously flawed. I can only pray that jb doesn't turn out like ics.

Surprised to see the support for gb. I do live the battery life, but the ui of ics is just too nice.
With that said, is calk's Rom still considered the best gb Rom? I've seen unnamed and phantom mentioned as well.

I'm on calks 3.0 and I love this Rom and the battery life.. don't get me wrong, I love ics/jb bells and whistles and the customization but the stability of a gb rom can't be beat until all the bugs are ironed out... but who knows, maybe when ics /jb is really official and there's an officialcustom kernel built, I don't see gb being beat...

On Calkulin GB rom
Only reason still on GB is not sure how to pop up to ICS or Jelly a little confused and looking for a good how to upgrade breakdown tutorial.
I would've stayed on blazer or any gingerbread if YouTube and Songza were usable, no 4G in my area and those apps would just keep loading on 3g. I honestly don't see any difference in battery life with gingerbread and the newer ICS roms, only slight speed difference.

i went to JB/ICS but the download speeds are so much slower for me on them so i stick to GB to tether to my laptop.
Me. just all around more stable and faster to me.

I'm running blazer 4.1 because the GB data speeds/ping are better than ICS/JB. I can't stand the touchwiz super-scroll and AOSP ICS/JB still has the 4G bug. Once AOSP fixes the 4G bug I will update. I have never had battery problems on any Rom.
