[Q] Baseband and Radio???? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

ok, so soon im going to be getting the Galaxy Nuexus. my previous phone was the LG GT540 and there were no mods for Baseband or radio. what do each of these mean, and what will modding them do for me?
EDIT: and whats CDMA?

There is no such thing as nodded radios or baseband. They're all official basebands, go through each and one of them and find out he one that benefits you the most giving you the best reception and stick with it.

Galaxy Nexus x Wind Mobile

Got the phone a few days ago... coming from a galaxy s
unlocked and rooted it but other than that it's a stock telus gn.
i live in the mississauga/bramton area of the gta and get 'no service' quite a bit.
3g is on and off... and the device shows 'away' when in the wind zone.
baseband is KL1, i was wondering if it's worth it to flash a rom so that i can flash a another modem
im sure there are at least a few that are in my position. any help would be appreciated.
You don't need a new ROM to flash alternative baseband radios. Keep your stock ROM.
People are reporting great performance on Wind mobile using the Korean baseband KRKL1

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Radio LOSS and LTE issuez

Hello,
I recently flashed patient zero with the 4.04 system and radios.. ever since then I get signal loss and have to restart my phone as well as when I turn on LTE and there's no 4G signal it won't switch back to 4G.. I posted this question on Droidhive but haven't received a response. Wondering if anyone else is seeing this issue with 4.04. Thanks!

Have you just tried to return to stock? Or at least re-flashing the ROM?
Your on patient zero man... its way less stable than crossbreed . Hence why Droid theory said its for crack flashers who don't mind a few bugs because it has more features.
I'm also on Patient Zero; same thing happens to me. Its a deal with and wait till next build or swap roms
Did you flash the "get ready.zip"? It has the 4.04 radio and baseband . Once I did that I got way less drop outs.

Yeah I flashed the get ready package before flashing the rom..

As per this sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736474 I'd say no.
The euro s3 also has a quad core, while we have a dual core so I doubt there are enough similarities to cross roms.
I'm currently on a captivate patiently waiting to upgrade to an s3, so I've been doing some reading.

I am sorry, how can i move this post to General questions section.
You'll have to get the mods to move it.
Some guy tried flashing an international rom on a US/Canadian S3 and look what happened to him Xlite rom killed my phone
DO NOT FLASH INTERNATIONAL ROMS YOU WILL HAVE A PAPERWEIGHT

So many people bricked their devices by doing this...its PROBABLY not a good idea.

Here is how to fix it.

galaxy s2x telus t989d signal weak on wind mobile and mobilicity

Hi
i bought telus galaxy s2x t989d which is supposed to be exactly the same version of t-mobile galaxy s2 t989, but i started to use it on (AWS 1700) wind mobile or mobilicity, the signal is weak and reception is bad, i red that if i flash t-mobile radio on my phone, the reception will be fixed, if that is true where i can find this radio and how to install it.
thanks
Indeed, you can get better/worse signals depending on your location and your radio. Its more a trial and error thing to see which one works best for you in your area.
Check this thread for some radio's information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426001
I also recently got the Telus Galaxy S2X to use with Wind Mobile. I though I would need to update the Radio to a T-Mobile one as well but was pleasantly surprised that for me the Telus radio give me full signal strength and data speeds (same as what I got with a Wind LG Optimus 2X phone). You can try flashing the radio but don't think it will help that much.
thanks for the reply, its more like to try and find out

i'm on Wind and using T-mo radio
no problems for the past 2.5 years
good reception every where i go, including most basements
except the toilets and elevators in tall buildings
The Blaze radio is better than the stock Telus radio for me on Telus. Worth checking out. You can find it somewhere on the first or second page in the dev section (maybe the 3rd).

1) yes
2) yes
3) none i can think of, it all comes down to the Apps you have loaded and what is eating the battery, there's no magic ROM that will do that for you
4) only a some stock ODIN ROMs, most have them (radios) castrated to prevent damage to phones, when flashing the wrong ROM by accident

I'd say thats pretty standard.
I am using Telus T989X on wind mobile using telus radio here. For me, telus radio seems to pick up the best signal overall.
a lot of stuff affect battery life, there are many topics with good what to do and not to do to make the best out of your battery
something as simple as a live wall paper can drain your battery like a pig
i'll not go into details, as there are plenty of topics about that already
I flashed dark side ucle2 and t mobile radio. I noticed improvement in battery performance. But the reception is same as telis radio

Where can I find Blaze radio?

worth switching?

Hi , I'm currently using Lg g2x
and it seems like this phone is a good option for me right now.
i have a few question for the phone.
1. How are the driver and development support for this phone? ( both from samsung and devs)
my g2x is a pain right now because LG did not release enough drivers and we have no fully working ICS/JB and developments are dying....
2. Are there screen burn in problems?? (This was the major reason why I tried to avoid AMOLED phones)
3. what is your general opinion?
Thank you
This phone and the dev support kicks ass. I had no qualms about keeping this through the S3 cycle, and every time I think I want to upgrade, I'm reminded that this phone does everything I want it to do.

Ex-G2X user here. By all means, go for it if you have a bargain! This is a sweet phone, so stable compare to the G2X.

Dev support is killer!! You'd be crazy to not switch to an S2 or S3.
Im an ex g2x user also and I'd totally make the switch if i were u also

Oh I was reading development thread and I saw that some ROMS need to flash radio? and I read about people flashing radio file. (ULV..etc)
What is it? is it necessary? are there ROMS requiring specific radios? Thanks!

I'm in Canada as well(however with Wind Mobile) and so far the stock koodo or Telus radio suits the best(most reliable, no data drops, etc). You may try different radios from the thread below to see if any of those works better for you with your provider. The stock koodo is there too if you wanna go back to that.
Radios in general affect the mobile signal, data connection and wifi signal. On a side note, the Telus Jellybean release is just around the corner for our device (April), we will see how is the bundled radio performs once it drops.

Flashing a custom rom(unless stated otherwise by the rom developer) won't touch your radio. So in theory your signal and other radio characteristics will remain the same. However based on the feedback in the radio thread some radio performs better for some user depending on their location(most of them are US based Tmobile customer). So it's about trial and error, try them and see if you have better results with different ones (signal, ping, download/upload, voice quality, battery life).
For Wind mobile here in my location (Ottawa) the koodo radio is the champ.
