I currently have the regular Epic 4G (w/ keyboard). I'm trying to decide if I want to get this phone or wait a little longer. I'm not sure how many people switched from the Epic but there were quite a few bugs. I'm concerned that it carried over to the Epic 4G touch.
I started off with the moment and some of the problems carried over to the Epic. And even after developers on here got ahold of it, they still weren't able to solve some of the issues.
Here is a list of the issues I am concerned with:
1) Switching from wireless back to 3G. On the epic, after switching to wireless and then back, I can't turn wireless back on. It just errors out and I need to reboot my phone to be able to connect to wireless. Does the Epic Touch do that?
2) Time without signal. This issue eventually got solved but it took a custom kernel and some tweaks. This was also an issue with the Samsung Moment. Is this an issue with stock?
3) GPS. Seems like most samsung phones have problems with GPS. I use it alot when I travel and I need something reliable. Does it lock reliably? And I'm not just talking the first time. I'm talking all the time. Maybe it's too soon to tell with this. This was also an issue with the Moment.
I'm kind of weary of getting another samsung. Seeing how long they take with updates and their issues that keep carrying over from phone to phone.
If anyone has any input on the issues above, please comment. At this point in time, I'm going to wait it and see what kind of problems arise. Hopefully by that point, there will be some concrete news about the Nexus Prime.
TIA!
After using since 10:00 am Friday morning I have none of those problems. I had a problem with swype not spacing words but after using for a while it has corrected itself(must be a learning program). I say go for it this devise is awesome straight out of the box.
My last long term phone was the Moment, so I completely understand where you are coming from. I was eligible for upgrade a couple months ago and have since left the moment to go through the 3d, the MoPho and now the E4gT. I had the 3d for about two weeks and loved it, except for the call quality issues so it had to go. Then got the MoPho and I absolutely LOVED it and still do.
The E4gT is awesome, don't get me wrong. The screen size and screen period has the MoPho beat, but not by a whole lot. Im not a big gamer so it isnt that big of a deal. The GPS on both seem to work very well and the call quality is excellent with both. Still sort of early to tell a clear winner there, for me anyways.
I found a case at the Sprint store that has a kickstand but its not near as cool as the MoPho's but it makes a big difference to have that. Plust, the case makes the E4gT easier to hold, because due to its size (4.52inches PLUS how thin it is) it can be awkward to hold at times, but I'm getting past all that now.
Music speaker quality the MoPho does have it beat there. The Sammy's is good, but not as good.
As far as reception, MoPho wins there too. Not even a competition. There is supposedly a fix for this, but again Samsung, why am I doing YOUR work? So that does leave a bad taste in my mouth with that one.
All in all I'm giving it the old college try. I really liked my MoPho and I do miss it, but seemingly less every day. I know the E4gT dominates all benchmarks and graphical rendering, but all I want my phone to do is work, and work well - so far, the E4gT is doing just that and more.
Moving from the Moment, any and all are a SIGNIFICANT step up but still, I want to be happy with this purchase and have no worries about the future. I'm worried about future support from Sammy though. Moto has already updated the MoPho twice since release, we will see how Sammy supports this beast.
If on the fence, try them all out. Remember, WE are the consumers and we have a 30 or 45 day return policy in place for a reason. Do the needful.

Thanks for you thorough response and I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. Since Sprint nixed their premier program, I'm no longer eligible to get a yearly upgrade @ $150. So that means I'll need to pick my phones more wisely since I won't be upgrading every year.
Sprint also changed the return policy to 14 days now so we no longer have 30. They keep nickel and diming us and we still get the same ****ty service and all the carriers cap their data at 2gb. Doesn't fly with me since I average 4-5 gigs a month. So I guess I'm stuck choosing the lesser of two evils, which for now, is Sprint.
I'm at the point where I just want my phone to work without having to flash/tweaking the hell out of it. I know some will say to just get the Iphone but I hate it with a passion and will never own one.
Sammy's support flat out sucks so that's one of the reasons why I am hesitant. They just have a few things that they seemingly refuse to fix even though it's been present in the last 2 phones with keyboards. I'm about fed up with the KB models as well since none of them have worked correctly. Before the moment I had the HTC Touch Pro and I went through 3 of those because of the KB issues. I won't ever buy HTC again.
So maybe the best of both worlds is to just wait it out and see if sprint gets the Nexus Prime. Quicker updates with superior hardware.
Thanks again for your review.
GPS works great.

I don't know where you're getting a 14 day return period. Maybe that's at Sprint stores, idk, but at bestbuy I have 45 days due to sprint premier status, and radioshack was 30 days for non-cosmetic issues or however they term it, it basically meant 30 days in my mind.
And if I were you, try the MoPho. Sounds like you are going to be happy with that. If not, try the Sammy. If at the end of either of those you are still dissatisfied, take it back, get money back and wait it out.
Ok so I currently have the nexus s 4g, i am due for an upgrade. I was just curious whether you guys think i should upgrade to the epic 4g touch, or wait for a better phone down the line (galaxy nexus). These are my thoughts:
The epic 4g touch, in many ways IMO, is the best phone out on the market now. I have played around with it in the sprint stores and love it. But I have a few questions...I have read that the Epic touch has NFC technology, is this true? Also are there a lot of nice ROMs for it, i have searched the dev section but really theres no way to tell the quality of ROM by just looking at the pictures and posts. Also do you guys think i should save my upgrade for something thats coming down the line? I have googled searched as much as possible to see if there are any new sprint phones coming down the line and i cant seem to find anything that beats out the epic touch, besides the galaxy nexus which is not even confirmed for sprint yet, and no announcment of a WiMax version so im thinking if sprint even gets it it wont be until they get there LTE network up which will be for a while. Gimme Your thoughts...thanks in advance.
Be patient and wait for the Galaxy Nexus. wait for the news about it, see if they are going to release one for Sprint... if not get the Epic Touch 4g.
No NFC for the epic touch 4g. also, not many roms. development is slow but it will take off with a little more time.
I'd wait for the Galaxy Nexus.

First things first, there's always going to be a newer bigger and better phone coming down the line no matter what phone you buy. Even if you buy a phone on launch day there's always something new in the works. That's technology, its constantly evolving. And don't go chasing fairy tales of a Nexus that isn't even announced to be coming to Sprint. Even if it was it would be an LTE device and that's a long time from now.
As for lack of custom Roms the epic touch hasn't been out all that long so there's only a few custom Roms out. But truthfully there's not much that needs changing or modifying to make this phone awesome. Straight out of the box you won't find much to complain about if anything at all. I was asking myself the same questions and I come to the conclusion that the epic touch is definetely worthy of an upgrade and even worthy of keeping for twenty months. Sprint. LTE. is a ways off so by the time that starts rolling out in a timely fashion, you'll be nearing your next upgrade anyway. Go buy the epic touch and give it a try for a few days. I promise you will not want to return it and go back to your current phone. Trust me on that.
The Galaxy Nexus probably won't come for quite a while so if you're anxious for a new device and don't want to leave Sprint, then the Epic Touch will be great. There are some issues such as loss of signal and no NFC included as stated earlier. I came from the original epic and I upgraded to this one since the next Nexus seemed like it would take a while to get to Sprint.
I was in your situation and decided to go ahead and get the Epic 4G Touch. I haven't had any problems with it at all so far and love the phone. There's lots of development going on for it too if you're into custom ROMs. The Nexus Prime will probably be great, but who knows when we'll see it. Like others have said, there's always going to be something newer on the horizon.
Get it its a beast by th time you think about it. Newer phones will be out just enjoy the now

I made the jump from the Evo to E4GT and I couldn't be happier.
If you keep waiting for the next best thing, you will never get anything. No one even knows for sure if Sprint is getting the GN
anyway.

Hi I own one and though the phone is great, the Samsung support is non existent. Also with Samsung you have to buy new phone to get the upgrade to the OS. I am waiting for HTC to announce their next sprint phone like Vigor. My experience with HTC has been much better...The only way Samsung with unlearn what they learnt from Apple is to let their sales get affected. I am telling this to everyone who goes ooh aah over my phone.
If you are planning to stay with Sprint and not looking to switch carriers, I would say buy it and enjoy it.

I think the phone is great, despite having left mine for ohhh say 30 mins in a steamy bathroom. No water damage signs inside sprint told me (I didnt tell them what happened obviously) but two weeks later after tons of complaining I got a new one and I am happy as a pig in poo. This "smartphone" maybe because it is my first one, but I can't imagine being without it.
When I purchased it was a couple days after I found out that sprint was getting the iphone, and after about two weeks of hard research (it was released in US MID september to the best of my knowledge) so I am looking forward to spending two years with it now. The two weeks (really 10 days because I rigged it up to work and got extra battery that I had sprint credit to my account.
The old phone already had drop marks and stuff, the new one go a TPU treatment right away and steinheil sgp screen protector 24 hours later. This, IMO is the perfect trio. Size of the iphone IMO is better, thats it. The screen on this thing will wow you with pretty much all you look at, it is fast, every iphone person that sees it LOVES it (ICouldGAF after reading jobs bio - ****), precesses fast, battery is nice, feel nice, fit finish nice. I dont want a metal phone, even though when I dropped it a few times, the edges that were worn looked a heck of alot like some sort of metal and it bent like metal in places, I also read it is somewhere (of course cant find link but maybe somewhere on Samsung site proper)
JC
I would get it. I doubt the galaxy nexus is coming to sprint. This is the best phone out for Sprint and will be for a long time.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
I would defintely get it, i came from AT&T's Motorola Atrix(the first one) and it was a great device and still is, had it since launch, but i been wanting a Galaxy S phone. So i decided to go into the sprint store and check out the E4gT, and loved it, the phones that i was tryna decided between were the E4gT and the Evo3d, i didn't want the photon cause i don't really like motorla, and the iphone 4s was too high, plus i really don't like iOS(i love mod'n my devices and u really can't do much with iOS), and the Galaxy Nexus is WAAAAAYYYY OVERRATED, sure it's gonna come with ICS but nobody's gonna keep it stock for long, they'll end up throwing a rom over it, and the devs on the E4gT are active and will keep you happy with enough roms(and updates with them), mods, and themes until ICS comes to the E4gT
But back to the topic at hand, i definitely suggest this phone, buy it, give it a few days before u decide to root it to test it out, stay up to date with the forum and if u decide to root, the instructions are super easy and you'll have plenty of help if u get stuck(eventhough some may give u a hard time) but i'll definitely help u if needed just like i was helped.....now GO FOR IT! lol
Its aight. Once the LOS is fixed (hopefully) it'll be the a great phone to hang on to.
......
when its 100% it is an awesome phone and there isnt one out that Id want more, but because of the bugs me and the wife both slightly wish we waited longer to pick these up or got different phones without the bugs this phone has...
Id say wait for samsung to send out the update to fix the phone, then get it.
I have 3 Sprint phones in my possession right now. This one, the EVO 3D, and the Nexus S 4G. They are all great phones & each has some sort if advantage over the other. The Nexus S, will surely get ICS shortly after the Galaxy Nexus comes out. It is a great little phone. The EVO 3D is a nice phone & with the CM7 alpha on it, it's every bit as fast as the E4GT. HTC has already announced they well be updating it to ICS. The E4GT has a beautiful screen & is fast as hell. It's simple to use, root & also easy to fix if you mess something up from flashing. I would go to the Sprint store & play with these 3 devices & decide for yourself. I don't think Sprint well get the Galaxy Nexus until mid next year. Samsung has not mentioned one that ics is coming to this phone. The others have already said they'll get it.

Sprint has alot more to worry about than making the nexus a priority as their next samsung smartphone offering. They have their hands full with backorders of Epic 4g touches all over. I have been on the phone for a week, try getting one in a rapid fashion when yours malfunctions day 15 - one day after the 14 day trial ends - Jump through hoops. Been a customer since 1997 here....
As far as ICS, I wont hold my breath, what were working with seems well enough, no?

I just got a job at coporate sprint store. So i trying to decide on what phone to get. I always wanted a galaxy nexus but was wondering any issue(especially sprint) with the device. I know the gs3 is out but im really not feeling that device.... So anybody with the sprint galaxy nexus still recommended the phone with the current devices sprint offer???
How often can employees get subsidized upgrades? Sorry I don't have Sprint so I can't answer but I've always wondered about that....

I so insanely recommend it, and grab one of the slim extended batteries you guys are giving away. I run mmuzzy's pure stock AOSP 4.1.1 JRO03L build and it is flawless and smooth as butter. I compare my Nexus to the SIII every so often when I stop in my local Sprint store, and I don't regret my choice.

CDMA=Garbage.
Unless they are paying your phone bill for you get yourself a GSM one.
You're working at a corporate Sprint store? I feel bad for you lol. Well, only if it is a service and repair. Those stupid CSAT surveys are DUMB. Not even mentioning selling jam boxes and SPC. Literally the most stressful job I've ever had LOL.
Get the Nexus. Touchwiz is garbage.

Get either one IMO, flip a coin.
The GS3 is getting more stuff all the time.
The GNex is good and will be for a while.
Although in Sprint's case, I may get the GS3, since the Sprint version is really gimped.

That's a good way to look at it and be positive. There was a lot of corruption in my store and it was very stressful. I learned A LOT when I was there. Are you going to be a rep or a tech?

A rep. Just started today doing ilearn you know boring stuff lol! But everybody i work with seems cool so far. Mostly everybody that i work with came from the local radioshacks lol so i find that really weird in a way???? even the sprint store in my area mall ALL their employees are former radioshack employees!!!
Former Radio Shack employee here also trying for the local Sprint stores to be a rep. Plus, when I was at Radio Shack my first year I was top sales for Sprint in my entire district, so it would make a lot of sense for me to transition to Sprint eventually.

If I had the choice for a GSM one i would go that route. But if you're only choice is sprint go with the gnex. Its totally worth it. Software > Hardware. Even though the GS3 has its own cm10 there are numerous issues and it will never run correctly or as efficiently as touchwiz does on that device. If you like pure android the gnex is your device.

Agreed. If I had to choose a new phone on Sprint right now I'd choose the Gnex again. If nothing else for the onscreen keys. If you're a vanilla Android fan it's a no brainer.

You better believe with my discount im sticking with the cdma model!!! First day today and all we sold were iphones, gs3, and evo lte. But that was also what was brought back in with people trying to figure out why they cant use the market lol!
Thanks guys for the feedback. Anybody have any major issues with the sprint model? Nobody really said anything about issues. Played with the store demo today at work and the phone is still on ics and it was so smooth and fast. Bet its a beast on JB!
I use mmuzzy's pure stock untouched AOSP 4.1 build and have not a single issue. Your experience with the Nexus should be very good.

Just make sure the screen is up to par. Turn it down to 0% and look at the calculator and see if the darker buttons have a purple tint. If so you have a defective screen or at least a visual defect.

Any phone can do that. Its a big problem with LED displays. Just get it switched out since he is going carrier route.
Sent from my GNEX.
I will give you my opinion as someone who had the GNEX (on Verizon) for the past 6 months and just made the switch to the S3 2 days ago......
Let me first give some on the positives of the GNEX. It gets updates and as far as custom Roms are concerned and everything usually is in full working order. You won't see a list of non working things in it's thread. It is great knowing when someone releases something it will just work.
The device is smooth. On ICS it was smooth and on JB even more. I never had any issues with Lag.
Now for the reason I decided to leave the GNEX. The screen quality is terrible. Even if you get one with a good screen, it is still pretty bad, especially on stock with altering any colors. Luckily with custom kernels you can help the screen quite a bit but if your screen has a purple tint or lines through it at lower brightness there is nothing you can really do to fix those issues.
The camera, oh boy the camera!!! In daylight and outdoor shots the camera takes some amazing pictures. Go indoors with non natural light or low lit areas and you can barely make out people's faces in the pic (a little exaggerated but you get the point). Having a 2 year old and not wanting to carry a camera around with me every day a good camera in my phone while maybe not important to everyone is pretty important to me.
The battery life. The LTE battery life is an embarrassment. I do not think you can really test this on Sprint yet since so one really has LTE but on Verizon, if you have LTE on you would be lucky if you can hit 2 hours of on screen time and that is with the 2100mAh extended battery. With Sprint I guess you can really only test it on 3G and 3G will always perform better for battery. But I switched to Verizon from Sprint for it's LTE network and when they got the GNEX is when I made the jump. It was the first Verizon phone I actually wanted.
Also, when I first switched to the GNEX, I was coming from a Sprint Epic 4G Touch. When putting them side by side I felt like I was downgrading by keeping the GNEX. After 2 days I actually packed up the GNEX and was about to send it back and port back to Sprint but I decided to stick it out. I just didn't want to go back to GB and a Wimax phone knowing Sprint is doing away with the technology.
Oh, and another thing I am not a fan of that most people love are the on screen buttons. They waste to much space for no reason. I was to use all of my 4.6" screen. Why would I want to take away from that! It is not like the space is not there on the bottom of the device to add capacitive buttons! I might be in the minority on this one though as a lot of folks enjoy their on screen buttons and customizing them.
Onto the S3. While I did not have it that long and I also need to run now that I spent so much time on the GNEX, it seems to be an amazing device. I have had for 2 days now I have yet to root it. It feels so good on stock and I am really enjoying the experience I am in no rush to do it. I have nothing against TW and I enjoyed it on the E4GT as well. As a matter of fact their are lots of people who want to flash software and run themes that mimic the S3 so it can't be that bad. I used to run an S3 theme on my GNEX and then removed it saying no matter how good the theme is my phone is no S3!
The screen on the S3 is gorgeous. Much closer to the Super Amoled Plus Screen I was used to. The device is super thin and light. Feels great in the hand. I like not having the buttons on the screen. I get to enjoy all 4.8 inches of it!
Battery life seems to be great as well. I have yet to kill it in the 2 days with it. I was at 2.5 hours of on screen times after 14 hours of being unplugged and was at 40% battery left. It felt good knowing that I would have a device that I can actually use all day and not worry about it dying on me at some point.
The camera is so much better in low lit area's and it also has no shutter lag like the GNEX. Although I still think the E4GT took better low light pics then the S3, it still shines way above the GNEX in this category.
As far as smoothness is concerned. While the specs scream latest and greatest and benchmarks definitely back that up as well, it is no smoother then the GNEX is so nothing to worry about there.
Anyway, to wrap it up you need to decide what is important to you and go with it. The S3 fit my needs better at this time and I feel like the GNEX just came up a little short in area's where it could have really shined.
At this point if I was interested in a GNEX device, I would probably be looking to see about the next GNEX which hopefully addresses it short comings....
Oh, one last thing to consider. The LTE radio's in the Verizon GNEX has caused so may issues with a lot of users devices, I went through 3 before I got one that worked well, it will be hard to tell if Sprint has the same issues until more users are in an LTE area. So you might have problems down the line when they start flipping the switch. Jut something to think about that you might not know when you first get the device.....
Hey everybody, I am currently a Sprint Customer Who has had the evo 3D since launch. I am in the market for an upgrade, and I am looking at the Note II.
I really like the fact that it is a super powerful phone, and the S-Pen functionality would be of great use to me. Some of the things that I am not sure of have to do with the software...
I noticed with my evo 3D, support was not super quick, and most roms that removed the sense kernel ended up losing 4G and 3D capability, and sometimes even GPS.
I know the GSIII has gained a lot of traction in custom roms, etc, but I don't know if that will be the same for the Note II.
I guess the bottom line here is that I like the Note II, but I don't want TouchWiz, but I still want full functionality especially the 4G and S-Pen. So with that in mind, Do you think this is a good buy?
The difference between this 2 devices is from the earth to the SKY, I been a HTC loyal costumer for over 6 years... this ended when the NOTE 2 came out and so far I LOVE this phone. im pretty sure you will love it too, get a launcher over touchwiz and you will be set.
At first its kind of wow this is too big but now (a week after) its like man look at all those tiny small phones ...
We already have root and some ROMS, so its only a matter of time before we get a big crowd of developers working with us...
go do that swap NOW!!!!
:good:
I just picked up my note 2 from evo3d last night. Once I got home I felt a HUGE disappoint from leaving my 3d woth cm10 coming to touchwiz and how BIG everything is. Day two, im a little more at ease after some sleep.
My biggest issue is just how huge everything is. I know once I root it and change dpi down it may look more normal for me. Im used to using a small font with and small font settings.
However my biggest hurdle is how unstable this thing feels in one hand. I constsntly feel like I may drop it because the only way to truley be able to use one hand and access everything is to rest the phone on your four fingers while using your thumb to navigate. Versus having end of your other fingers having a sturdy hold on left side of phone like normal.
Using the one-handed option does help for typing and such, but its mainly not being able to reach notification bar while having the firm grip versus resting on four fingers.
Having a inner struggle weather I want to keep this or go exchange for the gs3 later today or tomorrow. I use my phone with one hand a lot so thats a huge issue for me.
Has anyone else gone thru this while switching too the note2? If so how long does it take for that too go away.
Also im curious as to what kind of stylus support aosp roms will have. I know it will work for touching the screen but I mean as far as default samsung note apps and such? I know I will be going back to cm10 on this or the gs3. But if we will lose a lot of stylus support then I dont reslly see a need for the note over the gs3 with only .7 inches of extra screen real estate.
Any input would be great! Thanks

Not sure if you knew, you can make the font smaller. You can go to Settings >> Display >> Font Size. You can select tiny but it won't be as small as the font in 3d. but still it makes the font look better.
I used to own the e3d as well but for me, i'm really glad i went with note 2.
I've had every Evo and happy with going to the Note 2 even from the Evo 4G LTE. I would rather stick Note 2 over S3. I love AMOLED screens and very happy they did the RGB setup instead of pentile and a major reason I went Note 2 over the obvious things.
How about one handing the device? Does it feel comfortable or do you feel you could drop it at any second. Mainly with having to pull noti down?

Thanks everybody for your input on this matter. I do have a question about the AMOLED screens though. From fiddling with the phones a bit in the store(mainly the GSIII and the EVO4) I have noticed that the AMOLED is much dimmer. I knew the sprint rep wouldn't let me take them outside to see what they look like in the sunlight, but I asked him anyways, just for the reaction. Obviously, it was still a no...
How is direct sunlight use? Especially for those coming from the 3VO to the note II.

Sorry bro but if the sales rep wouldn't walk you outside so you could see a real world difference then go to a different store with better cs ... my sgs3 does great in sunlight as long as you don't stand with the sun on your screen ...side note...I just switched to sgs3 from the note 1..great transition imo

Yeah, i was in the little strip store by my work, instead of the full sized nice one that I usually go to. Good to hear about the screen, and I'm surprised anybody would be going from a sgs3 to the original note, glad it works out though!
SO im pretty sure im going to get totally flammed for saying this but here goes and I think you need to hear it.
I too upgraded from an evo 3D. I wont lie the note II is an amazing device and is very fast.
Things I like most about it
-Screen size is very impressive for video especially
-Battery life is incredible you can beat on it all day and still have juice in the evening
-Camera is pretty impressive speed very fast fastest ive ever seen on a phone.
-speaker is pretty good audio nice and loud nice if you dont have headphones with you
Unfortunately for me this is where it stops, and I will repeat these are my own opinions.
Things I do not like
-The hardware home button you have to push it in to make it go home kinda pain in the ass since the back and menu are capacitive buttons sure would be nice if they kept them all the same or even better just made it a capacitive button like most of the other manufactures do Its not an iphone I dont want an iphone...
-Screen very poor performance outside, full brightness and I am still thinking to myself this screen is hard to read out in the sun light or even in the car on a nice sunny day, I suppose if I lived in oregon or Washington state along the coast I would not care but here in sunny california its a problem. The Evo 3D is much easier to read outside in direct sunlight
- You cannot operate the camera while on a phone call. Why ? I have no idea but cant do it. Evo can no problem
- You cannot send a txt msg while on the phone either again why? no idea but my evo 3d sure can and its nice sometimes especially on speaker phone.
-I personally think sense is a pretty nice UI better than touchwiz but thats just me so im glad to be back.
-Memory mapping is a problem on this device your SD card will show up as external SD card not SD card so causes problems with a lot of programs unless you root and use directory bind. I did this seemed to work alright but more of a work around to a problem that should have been addressed at time of manufacture in my opinion.
- Stock browser and I like the stock android browsers they are pretty good but for some reason wont txt wrap when you double click to zoom in so you can read paragraphs of text so I am scrolling back and forth to read and I have the largest screen ive ever had on a phone and still find myself scrolling like crazy, hum.
- Swype does not auto space in the browser when posting things such as this very post annoying.
So those were my biggest complaints with the phone aside from this its a pretty nice device. However I did find myself wanting a lot of the features my year and half handset had. Honestly The new features the note II brought to the table for me did not outweigh the simpler things that I routinely use. So I am returning mine this evening and have already re activated my evo 3D and will sit it out till the next HTC device comes down the pipe and see what they bring out.
I will say the 3D does feel small in my hand now but its like an old pair of jeans just feels right, and usually I am very rapid to adopt the next phone I really wanted to like this phone and use it for the next year but I asked myself if I keep having questions if I should return it or not then something is wrong.
Oh a few other things that annoy me about it was the lack of multitasking which I was really looking forward to. However it cannot do that yet=lame...
Im sure much of what I complained about will be addressed through software fixs and what have you at least I like to think so. And I know you can download a bunch of apps to do some of this stuff.
So my best advice go buy one and try it out for a couple of weeks like I did. Its only 35 bucks to turn it back in and go back to your Evo 3D. I will say though the EVO 3D with a custom rom on it is not a bad device and is not really that slow. I think if you are coming from an Evo 4g the drastic difference is bigger or if you are coming from an even older device then it will be mind blowing. But from the evo 3d the Samsung is a nice phone a bit faster for sure but 300 dollars faster and worth 11 dollar a month insurance and 200 dollar deductible for me not so much.
Again not a hater I think the note II is a great device for very specific ppl and a very capable handset. But thought it would be nice to hear somebody else's view that is not all roses

All of that you listed has been addressed before you even got the phone and was tested/working a few days after the phone came out...

No...I had the note and sold it, and bought an S3...hardware wise there just isn't any comparison... and I can run serenity rom which turns my phone in a note 2!

Anyone who says the screen isnt brighter has been smoking too much hash. I could hardly see either of my evo's on a sunny day, this thing is leaps and bounds brighter and clearer outside then an evo. I dont even have to take off my polarized Ray Bans to see the screen. I have perfect vision so it may be different for contact or eyeglass wearer.

I have to get that rom that makes my phone bigger and gives it double the cores. DL link please.
Getting Anxious
I am currently rocking the EVO 4G and I lovied this phone when I got it but started to notice that it seemed like the last great phone that HTC made. I dont get my upgrade until Dec. 1st and I cant wait unitl I can finally get rid of this thing I call a smart phone and get a truely amazing device that is the Note II. I was a little upset when the original Note was on AT&T only but now that the successor is out for Sprint, I am as giddy as a school girl. Reading most of these comments makes me that much more anxious to get my hands on one so that I can finally see the awesomeness and true power of Samsung. Thanks for all the great input from all of your posts.
I'd make your decision based on your preferred screen size. There are a lot of great devices out at the moment.
I can recommend this device if you like the size.

Since you use it one handed a lot, you should look into a flygrip. There is a video review on YouTube.
Hey, I would just like to thank everybody who has given their input in my thread here. I'd like to inform everybody that I am now a proud owner of a titanium Sprint Note II!. The capability of the phone impresses me, and my only fault is that it is taking me a bit of time to find the best way to hold it.
Thanks everybody!
So coming from a Pixel 3xl and then the Pixel xl and then before that the Nexus 6 and then before that every moto phone all the way down to the og droid. Where does Google get off sending out a phone to the public that doesn't work. I've had this piece of junk now for 2 weeks and it is garbage. 1st thing right out of the gates the fingerprint scanner doesn't work but may maybe 1 in 5 trys. Why would they move it to the front. Who decided that was better. Cause it isn't. The fingerprint scanner sensors whatever they are on my previous two pixels worked fine once in awhile they didn't work they just worked this one just doesn't work. It's the most basic form of the phone it's the first thing you do when you turn the phone on. It's the first thing you do when you pick up the phone and to open it with your finger you would think that they would at the very least have that part right. Then 5G I don't know about where you are I live in Southern California, Ventura county which is just North of Los Angeles county. In every instance that I've used 5G to have 5G on my phone and I'm trying to do something on internet it is slower than 3G it's like we've taken two steps back. I have to wonder if it's like this for everybody I mean all the phones all the manufacturers I got a feeling this 5G wasn't ready yet and they just pushed it out anyway cuz they had to have the next good best thing but then work though it doesn't work. Why would Google push out a phone that just didn't work I thought the whole point of the pixel experience was that everything just worked. It didn't have to have the best specs they didn't have to have the greatest screen or the most memory. But they worked well without all those specs and screens. They worked and worked well cause they were well put together on proven hardware. Then Google brought in their software unmolested. Completely vanilla and the phone's working they worked better than the other phones that had all those high specs and lots of memories high refresh rate screens. The original Pixel XL and the Pixel 3XL they worked ? I'm starting to think that that was in spite of Google. Whoever ran their phone department put one past the bosses there and sent out some phones that just actually worked. My brand new Pro pixel 6 it doesn't work and I'm writing this on my pixel 3 xl you know why ? Cuz I'm done with it. After 2 weeks I put it in the drawer I'm done with it and it will stay there until there is some kind of major update they going to fix everything. I want nothing to do with that piece of junk. But here's the deal there's nothing else out there unless you want Samsung and I dont. I've had a plastic Samsung before I was not impressed I sent that back after about 2 weeks as well. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place what happened to the good old days of Motorola and HTC when the phone companies were competing against each other to actually put out good product and we'd have root for these phones before even they came out. Before they even hit the streets. What happened to the good old days when they had cheesecake..I had the bionic I don't know if you guys remember the whole story with the bionic but we had we had cheesecake for it for over a year before before they finally released what 4.0 or something like that. But I think they skipped ice cream and went straight to jelly bean ( os's ) because Verizon couldn't pull their heads out of their butt in and approve the final version of the os...but Motorola was writing a new one every day and since we had cheesecake and we would take it every single night we would have a new rom just about every morning. We were overclocking our phones.. they were cracked flashing ROMs. These phones were fun I miss those days of samurai and living chaos all those guys there's a different form once you guys probably don't even know about I probably shouldn't say the name of here but it was we had them we had a thread it was probably the busiest thread on all the internet in regards to phones and it was pretty much run by a guy named samurai and he had designed some tool ( House of bionic ? ) to help you root your phone and put these new ROMs in it. Anyways the thread went sideways after a while to say the least but drama was fun and it was over these phones we all lived for these phones now it is these phones are Just junk they don't even work anymore and no one cares no one cares they justice deal with it to do a work around where to work around barely work too I'm not going to do a workaround anything either. The fingerprint scanner should just work and it doesn't.. It's so frustrating. Why did Google even send this phone out to the wild...is ridiculous they should have had the fingerprint scanner running first thing. That should have been the first priority but it's not and then they send it out to the wild with a broken feature like that ? Just seems to me like they're cutting their own throat by doing that back in the day Google would have cared today they don't care. Just get it out there start selling it make money lie to the people. . It's a crying shame what this whole community has turned into and not I'm not speaking about us I'm speaking about the equipment they're forcing us to use. We choices do we have anymore we really don't whatever happens to that phone Google is going to make where you can buy your bits and pieces and put together yourself whatever happened to that that was a good idea. It was probably too good of an idea.. but doing that that way they probably would not make amy money. The bits of pieces we provide will probably be too good in the last forever .I'm going to rant again. I'm going to stop sorry guys. Just just how I feel about things now. I've had my pixel 6 Pro since launch!! And yes I do agree with the finger print scanner. Had my share of disappoints with it but update after update it just get better... I'm on custom ROM my preference.. it's actually closer to stock with minimal tweaks added.. Also note I've had all the pixel including the nexus line and by far this is the best pixel I've used... And the 5 g problems none here I live in Canada Telus network.. everyone has their gripe!! Best thing just return it
TLDR
Bro... Samurai? You talking the Droidrzr forum that I WAS A PART OF? Dude...that was like 10 years ago...let it die...the thing is they were INNOVATIVE back then, they were creating new things that have never been tried before, and pumping out things that "could" work. We are now at the point where we just want a good screen, long lasting battery and a great camera. All of which the Pixel 6 Pro do NOT do
As the owner of the pixel 6 pro, from a LAUNCH DAY T-Mobile oneplus 6T, I am not going to lie. The 6T was faster after 3 years. I just couldn't stand the camera anymore. But my SERVICE on that phone was great. And the battery life I would squeeze 10+ hours SOT like I do basically every phone that I have anymore.
For overclocking, you realize we're pushing over 2GHZ right? Overclockimg back theb was taking an 800mhz chip and pushing it to 1Ghz. That was MONUMENTAL for such a small chip back then. But you need to google a few things before you rage over some abilities. The CPUS back then were 45+nm small!!. That's effing TINY compared to a human hair of 80,000nm! But we are at 5nm in THIS phone. That's 9 times smaller. There's only so much heat you can push through a chip, but we're also running wayyyy more complex screens, GPU's, GPS, bluetooth, everything. It's all done on one tiny chip. So there's going to be some give and take.
As for the fingerprint scanner, you gotta put the same finger in the phone at least twice and move it around, slight movements alllll around the finger and you will have a perfect scanner. Mine only fails if it is laying on the table and I try to unlock it without picking it up. But in hand? Every. Time. It works. Also? Wash your hands.
And for 5G? Fam...I get wicked stupid fast speed...the problem is if you are in an area that is congested...which it totally sounds like you are, your speeds are going to be horrific. Terrible radio aside, this is just the gamble you're in and you're losing. I recommend just switching it to 4G anyways since battery life increases by a literal hour or two just by that move andddd 4G travels further.
And did you mean "Cupcake"? Wth is cheesecake? I have been with android since Froyo, and don't remember cheesecake I could be wrong.
But my thing is reality vs. expectations piss even ME off at times, and usually it's like,"Okay...my bad...I figured for $1200 this phone would be great."
My biggest disappointment? The 50MP sensor. It's just 12mp. Just like everyyyyy other pixel. My 3a XL takes better pictures than the 6 pro. Fight me. It does. But I gave it to my mom. Are the 6 pro pictures bad? Not really. But it's not as capable as they touted it to be. And considering MY PHONE overheats anytime I try to use it really blows. But because my phone decided to crack itself in the heat one day google wants me to pay for the screen to fix their hardware BS which I refuse for the 4th time.
And Samsungs are not plastic anymore my dude...you need to get in your time machine...my girlfriend's S21 Ultra is wayyyyyy more premium feeling compared to my 6 Pro hand in hand. A better phone all around. It is faster, charges faster, takes better pictures, wayyy better video, last longer SOT, doesn't EVER get hot, charges STUPID. QUICK. He phone was at 20% and she has it capped st 85 for longevity but we started using the "fast charge" with my Easeus 100 watt cables and charger? Bro...her phone charges in 20 minutes. If that. We were BLOWN. AWAY. and it DOES NOT GET HOT. So I recommend trying then again and not letting past experiences from 7+ years ago fool you...
But yes, you're correct in some ways, they went backwards with "quality of feel" but you did get what you paid for...a phone that is overpowered with a slightly underpowered chip. But without proper thermal handover, an "overclock" would just throttle and ruin the experience more...
Sorry fam.
Oh yeah, the old Bionic days...that phone was a little tank! And then you get a forum like droidrzr where the devs and owners were all easily accessible and incredibly helpful and yeah we had a lot of fun there. The landscape has changed a lot since then (like Gytole said), and imho I think the rom scene took the worst hit when Google shut down G+. G+ was the one stop shop for roms and their devs, and when they shut G+ down everyone just kind of scattered like ants on a destroyed anthill although most of them came here. But yeah, although I am disappointed with my P6P I won't rage about how things have gotten worse because, hey, at least Google hasn't gone the Apple route and completely locked down their phones and ecosystem (yet lol) and they still do offer AOSP and we still have awesome devs around who are willing to use their time to give us our custom rom fix.
Thread cleaned!
Greetings to all. Just dropped in for a little cleanup. Please do not forget about XDA Rules regarding member conduct. Whether Google stinks or not is irrelevant, how you treat each other on the other hand, definitely is! So let's keep things polite and civil shall we.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My fingerprint scanner is about 98% accurate these days, it is very rare for it not to unlock my Pixel 6 Pro on the first attempt. that said i'd still prefer a capacitive on in the rear.

Funny you say that. It takes 1-5 times for the Fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone, but put it in you cargo pants pocket and it will open half your apps, turn Bluetooth off, DND on, and call 3 different people on your contacts list

5G is probably the carrier. You said VZW?? I had VZW, but the 5G was crap as well as the insane billing. I have T-Mobile and my 5G is fast but yeah, the radios in the P6 have been criticized from Day 1

Man, I can't read that poop. Ever heard of paragraphs?
Want your phone to work well? Ditch the factory OS builds and install graphene.
Set it to enable fingerprint security, but NOT fingerprint UNLOCK.
You should never use biometric unlock because it isn't knowledge based and therefore not protected by your right aginst self incrimination.
Holy wall of text Batman!
Fingerprint sensor was slow on mine, but the first update I got in April, corrected that.
I totally agreed with your answer. My Problem is Solved
Have a nice day to all

Cheesecake was a tool they used to go after the Motorola servers to pull down the latest ROM every night. Motorola was rewriting the ROM for Verizon every single day and they used cheesecake to pull those rewritten ROMs off of the Motorola servers that were used to send it out to the wild on thier test phones. Something like that. That's how we had it. If you were part of it you would have remembered that. It ended on Droid razr.com. It all
started on the droidforms.net and it went to Razrforums afterwards after we got kicked off Droid forums. I was talking about the overclocking only because it was something we were doing then I'm not saying we need to do it now. My whole point about bringing up those times was because it was so much fun. Everyday was something new and the drama and then The politics of it. We had daily reports from livingchaos who had like an insider inside Motorola of it was just it was all fun. I don't know how much a part of it you were, but I was right in the middle of it. I was one of reasons it all got switched from one form to the next. I had a fight with a guy named foxcat He was a moderator on Droid forms. He said something to me. Samurai thought he said it to him and it all blew up. The next day, the whole thing that moved to Droid razr forms. Anyhow, sorry if I perturbed anybody with my rant. My my ill written rant next time I just won't..
Welcome to the 36% (https://tradingplatforms.com/blog/2...s-with-36-planning-to-switch-to-other-brands/)
I made it 4 months between January and May before I got fed up and gave my phone away. I went back to my pixel 3 xl. Just like you and I'm currectly in the market for a non-pixel phone. They have completely ruined the brand for me.
My previous phone was the nexus 6 and I still have it. I turned it on a week ago and it is so buttery smooth compared to even my pixel 3 with whatever ROM I put on it. If it wasn't for the old battery and camera I would love to switch back. It has Android 11 on it thanks to the modding community. It might support later versions but I haven't tinkered with it much lately. I'm getting off track.
I say I'm going to leave the brand but it is tough. It's all the small things that you get from Google that I'm afraid I'm going to miss. The notification of what song is playing, call screening, and call hold are all features I use regularly.
I've ordered a new phone and I'm going to test the waters. See what it is like outside of the Google ecosystem. I'm afraid but what choice has Google given me. I either try an alternatives or get stuck with an aging phone.

Android 12 works well on the Nexus 6, but anything close to that recent is pretty slow on it. Battery is not hard to swap on it since unlike newer phones where you have to probably destroy the display to open up, you can just peel the back cover off of it.

When I had my Nexus 6, (Sitting in the drawer next to me), the last phone I could easily root and modify, a co-worker seeing it told me my phone was like a Muscle Car, and she was right. It was.
