[Q] Installing Froyo ROMs after Gingerbread was installed - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I read a few "downgrade to Froyo from Gingerbread" threads, but I did not seem to find an answer to my question.
I have a Desire GSM.
What I did:
1. I rooted my phone with your help, using Revolutionary
2. I backed up my official Froyo ROM that I had rooted
3. I installed a developer Gingerbread ROM from this site
4. I wanted to install a developer Froyo ROM from this site
5. This did not work as I got an error during install:
"Installing update...
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted."
6. So I restored my own old factory Froyo ROM that I had rooted, which works fine
7. However, I still don't seem to be able to install any other Froyo ROMS because I get the same error as described under point 5.
Some information about my phone
In HBOOT:
Revolutionary
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL- SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
In RECOVERY:
ClockworkMod Recovery v 5.0.2.0
How can I install other Froyo ROMs?
Can anyone help? I don't understand much of what is suggested in the error message.
Thanks a lot.
Agoston

Your recovery is too new. Flash a recovery which uses the older update script (e.g. 4EXT or RMD).
Swyped from ICS with Transparent XDA App

Thanks for the advice.

What am I doing wrong?? My phone is rooted and I believe NAND unlocked. Could NAND be the problem? Dont you get NAND unlocked when you root your phone? Please if someone would, HELP ME!!!! Thanks.

You should have S-Off. if you have s-off and are rooted fully try installing each component seperatly. Ive gotten an error like that before and i had to toggle sig verification....how did you unroot?
I'm still rooted. I tried to do them individually and this is the message I got:
Amend scripting (Update-scripting) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to edify scripting (Updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted.
This the message I get every time. What do I do next?? Thanks.

You can use Amon RA's recovery to flash it, the new clockwork doesn't work with older update zips.
Do I need to put them in an update.zip file for them to be recognized??

iv made my goldcard but still no suscsess

You can do it for free using AlphaRev X. Refer these 2 threads:

Yep, I can personally recommend AlphaRev. Both the Windows version and Linux version worked fine on my Wildfire. Painless S-OFF, thereafter just read one of the guides on how to flash a recovery if you don't already know that (I suggest you use the fastboot method).

There's an entire list here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
Since you are going to debrand anyway, I dont think it matters whether you use a "Global" ROM or a UK ROM, because, all support English anyway.

Hi thanks for helping. do you no if i can simunlock for free?
also when i try to install a rom .zip i get this
installing update....
amend scripting (update-scrite)is no longer supported
amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5
it was necessary to remove it when upgradeing to clockworkmod 3.0
gingerbread based recovery
please switch to edify scripting ect ect ect any ideas?
There are several options:
- Convert the update-script to an updater-script
- Swtich to AmonRa recovery (AFAIK it still has amend support)
- Switch to an older version of ClockWorkMod (v2.xxxxx)
- Use RomManager to flash your file
Amend scripting is slowly being "phased out" since Google doesn't really support it anymore.

Nope. There is no free method for sim unlocking wildfire yet. Paid ways are using xtc clip and purchasing an unlock code from some unlocking websites.

This is because all 2.3 roms use edify/updater scripting. And all the other things generally use amend scripting. And 2.x recovery can flash amend scripting files only whereas 3.x or above can flash edify scripting files only. So you need to shift between recoveries according to your need.
Best way is to flash a 3.x or higher recovery primarily. Then root your phone and install rom manager. Use rom manager to flash recovery which generally flashes 2.5.0.7 recovery. It saves the file in the path sdcard/clockworkmod/download/subfolders/ . Explore these subfolders to find your file first. Then boot into your normal recovery and first select install zip from sdcard. Choose the 2.5.0.7 recovery path. Install it and you will have 2.x recovery at that moment. Now you can install amend scripting files. And even if you select the option "reboot to recovery" from rom manger itself, then you will directly enter 2.x recovery.
And if your phone is not in a stage to boot and you want to install froyo roms then you need to flash primary 2.x recovery by fastboot flashing or pc49img method (or unrevoked only for those who haven't used alpharevx and are still on hboot 0.80).

Hi, you don't need s-off to flash roms,do a nandroid backup of current setup before just in case.
just download cm version you desired. Put it on your sdcard. from cwm, wipe data/ factory reset, clear data, system and caches (not sdcard) then flash zipped rom from cwm. Don't forget the Google apps pack (gapps) if you need market etc etc. Flash directly after rom flash, before reboot for best results.
All you need is in here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
" once its gone,its GONE."
All you need is clockworkmod recovery version 3 and higher for flash CyanogenMod.
Unrevoked supports this hboot, my wildfire is rooted that way (but still s-on) and after u r rooted just flash the rom via recovery

Back to stock problem

Hi. My friends asked me to bring a stock software to his Wildfire. Unfortunately I have a few problems I can't solve. Wildfire is on CM 7.2.0 RC1, Baseband version 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10, Kernel 2.6.35.14-nFinity [email protected] #1. I suspect he installed CM 7 using ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.8 (this version is istalled).
In bootloader menu I have this info:
Revolutionary
buzz pvt ship s-off
hboot-6.01.1002
microp-0622
radio-3.35.20.10
I tried to install stock software using .exe file from this thread, but after verification it shows me USB connection error - phone is not connected.
So I decided to flash a zip file from this thread. But after wiping and selecting a zip file in update menu, CMW shows me this message:
amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported. Amend scripting was deprecated by google android 1.5. It was necassery to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery. Flash this file inside your recovery, it will give you a temporary 2.5 recovery which will allow you to flash the .zip file.
nejc121, thank you very much. Wildfire has a stock software now.

The clue is in the error message, amend scripting is not supported above cwm 3. The zip file contains an old script to tell it what to do.

With what I can see, it seems you are S-OFF... If true, then great. Download an RUU (.exe not .zip) and flash via FastBoot. To get Root back use SimpleOneClick (Easy as just one click)... To have your Recovery v4.0... Download and Flash via FastBoot... Easy!
Enjoy!

Does "SimpleOneClick" work for HTC Wildfire that has S-Off ?I doubt that.
If not,Unlock Root is another option.

Yes it does... That is what I use... But it doesn't work on Eclair anyways (Or maybe because I'm S-OFFed... Hmmm)... Anyways, it works on me Wildy. Cheers.
