In the stock ICS alarm settings from the stock analogue clock widget you can access a digital "desk clock" mode. If you long touch this desk clock, the screen goes black and you get a very sleek blue version.
members.iinet.net.au/~trinityjayone/ICSclock1.png
I have scoured the web and downloaded countless digital clock apps looking for something that achieves this blue digital clock in widget form. One widget came close ( market.android.com/details?id=com.eightsoft.ICSDigitalClock ), but it has a background that can't be removed and the text doesn't even fit into it properly.
Anyone know of a widget that fits the bill? Am I better off just working out how to make it myself?
Try HD Widgets. it has exactly what you want, with many digital clocks, weather and background options.

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't 100% clear. I'm after a clock that looks identical to the screenshot I posted. Same font, same colour (or the options to set it up as such).
it may not be exactly the same, but i think it's the closest one available at the moment.
If you find wt you looking for please share it with us here as i also like that blue lock clock.
with minimalistic text
In the zip is a .mtpref File. (make a restore wit minimalistic text[free])
fonts: AndroidClock.ttf, Roboto-Regular.ttf
if you mean this
Indeed it is...and I did try Minimalistic Text but I have no idea how to go about inserting different fonts into it. Perhaps if you could dumb it down a notch for me?

1. Create new folder on sd card called 'fonts.' Make sure there are no subfolders within it - just the actual true type font files.
2. Pick folder 'font,' not specific sub font, in the global settings for font selection.
3. Under each text type on each widget - normal, accented, nonaccented - you must select the font, the list should populate when you do as above.
Argh so easy! Don't know how on Earth I missed the "choose fonts" folder before. Thank you kind sir!

Thanks! I was just looking for this yesterday and after finally figuring out where the .mtpref file had to go I've got it working.

I have no idea how to get minimalist text widget onto home screen. No long press for widgets in ICS.
Anybody know how I can get this to work? I installed the app from market but they don't appear in the widgets section...
EDIT: Seems it takes time for newly installed widget apps to populate the widget section. I see them after a while.

Working and looking great thanks for the "restore" file. I cant even count the number of clocks I have tried and not loved.

Hey guys,
Here are some screenshots of the latest theme I have been working on. Feedback and suggestions/ideas are greatly appreciated.
***UPDATE 4/9/09***
Made a lot of fixes based on feedback received. Clock now matches the other icons/notifications, I personally like it a lot better! Application tray handle is now a thumbtack rather than the stapler in jello (stapler in jello is now delete handle). Added matching notification icons for most common stock apps (gmail, im, messaging, market, music, etc.) Cleaned up a weird looking button. Download link below!
***UPDATE 3/27/09***
Icon pack is available below. Included are all the application icons I made, as well as a blank icon background that you can paste your own icons into so they all match. Here is my process for doing that, though I'm not in any was saying that this is the only, or even the best, way to do it:
-Open both the icon you want and the "empty_sketchy" from the icon pack below in your favorite image editing program, GIMP or Photoshop, or whatever.
-You may need to resize the empty sketchy image, it works best if it is about twice as big as your icon you want to paste into it. There are two different sizes available in the zip file below, or it is a simple process to resize it to whatever size you need.
-Select and copy the icon you are working with, and then paste it into the empty_sketchy image. Center it, do any editing you need to do, etc. Then resize the entire thing to 48x48 and save it as a new file.
I'm still making a few changes and updates to the theme, and should release another update sometime this weekend.
***UPDATE 3/25/09***
Beta version now available, see link below. I still haven't quite finished everything I want to do with this theme, but I welcome ideas/suggestions/comments from anyone who wants to test it.
This theme is based on the US version of the TV show "The Office". It utilizes both things from the show, and typical office supplies.
Done:
custom boot screen
some notification icons
unlock screen
button backgrounds
clock
data network icons
phone signal, wifi, and battery icons
notification tray
all custom wallpapers
custom emoticons (from punkymoods.com)
To do:
remaining notification icons
delete tray handle
suggestions, etc

not sure about a new app tab I will be thinking about it and let you know if i think of something

See the first post for a link to a zip file with all the icons from this theme and instructions on how to make matching icons for other applications.
@JediMasterASD: That corkboard wallpaper is awesome. Maybe I should include that as one of the wallpaper gallery choices in the theme.

I don't think I love the clock either. I'm thinking maybe just a square clock like the kind in every office and schoolroom in the world would be better...what do you think?
Thanks again for the icons, i have already made a few more and am loving it! this is my current homescreen
I would actually like to get a copy of your theme without a graphic at all for the apps tab if possible, obviously you dont have to go changing it just for me though but my homescreen would be perfect then. Also a clock that more resembled something you would see in an office would be good too.
also something you could do is for the app tab and the notification is use weapons, becuase we all know how much dwight loves to hide weapons around the office!!!
bump for the update - see first post for changes and for new download link!!!
I hated the 'iPhone' look of the app drawer, which draws squares around the icons to make them look like iphone tiles. So I followed the instructions here and now it looks way better:
[I can't post external links] Search google for 'App hintergrund handy-faq.de' - it should be the first result.
It's a German site, so I used Google Translate to make sense of it.
EDIT: Yay, I'm now allowed to post links and upload and whatnot so here is the tutorial:

You will need a rooted phone, and basically you replace the tile backgrounds with transparent ones in the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk through ADB. Disclaimer: Please note you do this at your own risk and I am not responsible for any damage you may cause to your phone!
1) Download the Transparent_Tiles.zip attachment and unzip to a folder on your computer.
2)In Windows, make sure you have ADB SDK installed and phone connected via USB with 'USB Debugging' enabled. Go to Start>Run type 'cmd' and press enter, then in the black cmd window type:
cd c:\
adb pull /system/app/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
This will copy TouchWiz30Launcher.apk from your phone to your c:\ drive on your computer.
3) Before we meddle with the newly pulled file, make a copy of it and save somewhere else. Call it something like TouchWiz30Launcher.apk_original. This is your stock file, keep it in case you need to go back to the holy iPhone look.
4) Using a program like WinRar or 7zip, OPEN the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk on your C:\ drive by double-clicking (do not extract anything). WinRAR should now give an explorer-type view of the files inside the .apk. Navigate to the following folder in the .apk using WinRAR:
/res/drawable-hdpi/
You will see a list of image files that TouchWiz uses to create the iPhone tiles. We are basically going to overwrite the tiles with transparent ones directly in WinRAR.
5) Now highlight and select all the image files in the Transparent_Tiles.zip folder you extracted earlier and drag them into the WinRAR window. Confirm any overwrite prompts and then close WinRAR. We have now modified the apk (replaced the original tile background images) without extracting the apk or re-saving it. (It is important not to extract or re-pack the apk otherwise your phone will not accept the modified apk and you will need to re-sign it).
6) Now we are going to copy this apk to our phone's internal sdcard, then replace the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk currently on our phone system with the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk we just modified on our computer:
In your cmd line window, type (pressing Enter after each line):
adb push TouchWiz30Launcher.apk /sdcard/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
adb shell
su
cat /sdcard/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk > /system/app/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
reboot
8) Your phone will reboot. Free from it's copycat mentality with a new-found identity
9) The TouchWiz30Launcher.apk you copied to your internal SD card can now be deleted if you wish, since you've already copied this to the phones system now.
EDIT: I've upgraded to JP6 now (Froyo) and tried this method, and it worked too!
Very interested in this, but have no idea how to do this, please elaborate
You could also just change to launcherpro or ADW, both of which will emulate the look and feel of touchwiz but not add the tiles. Probably easiest way.

Yeah, that is true. The above is useful for folks who prefer not to run 3rd party launchers and keep the stock TouchWiz for whatever reason, but can't tolerate Samsung's inferiority-complex in aping the iPhone.
I did try launcherpro and AWD but they both gave me headaches:
- interfered with USB connections to my PC,
- cause problems with wi-fi reconnecting / detecting router
- Interfered with Live Wallpapers, (especially when rotating screen)
- drain my battery (touchwiz still running underneath),
- cause some widgets that work wonderfully in TouchWiz to go beserk (BBC News, DigiClock)
- and also clashed with NoLED notifications - one of my all time greatest apps.
In the end, I decided it wasn't worth it just for eye-candy and uninstalled both. It was a shame, because launcherpro was very snappy otherwise and had great add-on widgets...
But in the end I settled for TouchWiz, modified to my liking:

Sorry mate, could you rephrase that, don't get what you mean...?
He simply replaced the colored tiles with transparent tiles.
Download the zip and put the containing .png files into drawable/hdpi of the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk.
I think if you have a deodexed rom you will have to resign it then..

Yes, but then I miss out on samsung widgets, which, whilst alot of people here do not like, I do use, so I would prefer to keep it stock.
where did you get your icons for the contacts, dialer...?
I googled for launcher pro style icons and found some on http://launcherpro.droidicon.com/icons . Then used the same principles as above to replace the original icons inside the phone, browser apk with the custom ones

I'm not sure if that is possible because there doesn't seem to be a background image file used in the touchwiz launcher to create the black background. I think the colour is set in the XML file code, which is a realm beyond my knowledge...! Unless someone else knows what to modify?

Can I install it on my Galaxy S i9000????
Thanks
Hello fellow Go Launcher users,
I've spent hours and hours trying to find a way to make this or find someone who did it before me - and failed.
So I decided to do it myself and without any more stupid talk, here it is. A modded .apk file for the latest version of Go Launcher EX with transparent icon backgrounds and white icon labels.
[Installation:] Just uninstall the previous version and install this one. Do not forget to backup your settings before the uninstall!!!
Absolutely nothing else was touched in the original files!
I am apologizing up front if by my actions I've violated any rules. I am just trying to help the community since I've seen this being requested over and over again.
[UPDATE-02-Sep]:
I've modded the latest version v2.53final and added it to the same place as the other one.
I've added a version with BIG icons (from 48px to 64px). Please note that because of that the labels are overlapped with the icons, so you will have to hide them!!! I can't figure any other way for now. Also check the screenshot and note the little edges on the icons. I personally do not like this version and am sticking to my original one, but many people have requested it, so here it is.
[UPDATE-16-Sep]:
Added v2.55final. This version has the background removed and the font of the icons is reduced by 1px from 12 to 11.
[UPDATE 21-Sep]:
Added v2.57final with 12px font size and as requested v2.57final 12px font with BIG icons.
I've removed the older versions from the post to keep it neat. They are still in the main directory on the site and can be accessed here:
http://surr3a1.org/sgs2/
[UPDATE 03-Oct]:
Added v2.58final with 12px font size.
[UPDATE 04-Oct]
Added v2.58final with 11px font size and 48px dock icons(same as the other ones). The dock height has been re sized from 52 to 56px to fit the icons better. You might have to choose the dock background again so that it is parsed properly!
[UPDATE 28-Oct]
Added the link for v2.61final, which @OptimalKiller modded because I am too lazy

Hi mate,
There must be something wrong... I've just downloaded the file from my phone and from my laptop for the sake of testing. It is OK.
Please note that you have to replace the "-" after www with a "." for it to work. I am not allowed to paste a valid URL just yet.
Also have in mind that this is not a zipped file and you do not need to extract anything from it. Just copy it to your device and install it from there, exactly as it is!
Thanks!
Works as advertised. Will you mod the 2.53 final and beyond that aswell?
Hiya
Just downloaded it at home and its fine.
will give it a whirl shortly
Hi,
I will mod every single one of them if possible. It is the best launcher and this is more or less the only problem I have with it. I'll post the links in that same place where this one is, and update this thread.
Thank you!
Work fine! Thank you! This is my home:
Noob question here, how do you mod the file? I have a rooted Nook Touch which is gray scale and am unable to read some of the setting labels. This is a B&W copy of what I'm talking about.
Hi mate,
This is inevitable, actually that is the reason they have the background on the first place... but I have good news for you - I've created another mod with black labels and white shadow, which should look very good on light wallpapers. Check it out in the link on top.
To answer your question - it is not very easy:
1. get the original .apk file
2. use an apktool to extract the contents (the tool can be found on this forum)
3. mod some color strings inside the files:
a) background color: res/values/colors.xml - bubble_dark_background
b) label color: res/values/styles.xml - Workspace Icon - android:textColor
c) label shadow color: res/values/styles.xml - Workspace Icon - android:shadowColor
4. build the apk again
5. use a signing tool to sign the file (it can't be installed otherwise)
6. done

Hi,
You're welcome! I have a comment on these however. I do not know how to hide the dock, but I noticed that the dock icons are at 40px while the others are at 48px. I can mod the file to use 48px icons for the dock . Let me know...
How about making 4 icons in the dock. It always puzzled me that there are very very few launchers have this feature.
The few that have this are ugly as hell.
I am looking for the miui look, so 4 icons dock, icons in the dock same size as the screen.
If you could hack that for me I would be willing to donate

But there is the problem that the icons are way to big.

I'm a big fan of the new possibility to change the look of the folders on my homescreen with the new Nova Launcher.
Here's a little collection of PNG-Files that could be used as a folder Icon.
To change the look just follow these simple steps: Go to Nova Launcher-Settings -> Desktop -> scroll down to the last 2 entries "folder preview" and "folder background" in the brandnew Nova Launcher...
Note: The attached file is no flashable ZIP. It's only a ZIP-File which contains the PNG-Files.
This is a collection of racks. All of them are based on the wooden Rack (found a picture, used it as a draft, resized it, added shadow, etc.):

The credits for the Nexus Folder goes to flx-grafix and his Icons. The iOS-Folder is from Alex (thx!) and the new "wooden" icon is based on delta909's work):
Here's a collection of Folder-Icons made by H03! You'll find the ZIP-File with his Icons here:
Two nice looking Folder-Icons presented by Solarus2011:
Folder-Icon is based on the balloon Dock-Icons you'll see in the following screenshot. Balloon-Dock-Icons are made from grevenlx.
BTW: On Rootzwiki is another thread about Icons.
Awesome idea! I'm working on a few myself. I'll add them here when I get some done.

I'm a big fan of the new possibility to change the look of the folders on my homescreen with the new Nova Launcher.
Here's a little collection of PNG-Files that could be used as a folder Icon.

Awesome work, thanks! already using them
Great to have you here Nitroz! I LOVE your black theme for my nexus.
The idea sounds cool. But how do I use these icons? When I choose on the icons as folder icon, the contained apps are hidden behind the icon.

name is portal_container_holo.9.png

and we must change the apk for that (possible on my side)
here is mine , just the same as the dev but more transparent as you can see on my screenshot

This is a little overlay I created over the past days to make my phone look a little better and I thought I should share it with you guys
Sadly most of the overlay is part of the Wallpaper, which forces you to have the same layout, but I will clear the mess in the PSD and upload it for you. Maybe I will even let you request the displayed shortcuts.
But lets get started now:
These are the actual touch areas:
As you can see this overlay was created with the ParanoidAndroid-Rom as a base. Since it doesnt need major theming or modding you can easily apply it on other ROMs, but the postioning might be off a little. If that is the case, plz make a screenshot and I will adjust the wallpaper, so that it fits.
Ok now for the Setup:
Requirements:
-Nova Launcher (or any other Launcher, that lets you replace icons)
-UCCW (UltimateCustomClockWidget its free on the play store)
-Wallpaper and Uzips
-Uzips 2 (only if the first uzips didnt work properly!!!)
Nova Launcher:
-disable page indicator
-disable line between dock and homescreen
-reduce homescreen count to 2 homescreens
-grid size is 6 rows and 5 columns
-everything else is up to you^^
UCCW:
-install the app from the play store
-place the 3 uzip files you downloaded int you UltimateCustomClockWidget folder on your SD card
-open the app, press menu, select import skin and select my skin (3x)
-when you imported the date or weather uzip press settings->more, select a city and click set city [otherwise weather wont be displayed])
Wallpaper:
-simply apply the wallpaper^^
Now add a 4x3 uccw widget and select the clock skin.
Weather is in 5x2, as is the date widget
Add the apps from the app drawe to your homescreen, longpress and release them. Delete the text and select the transparent.png from the downloaded rar file to replace the image. Put those apps right were the touch areas are, which you can see on the screenshots above. Replace the image of the app drawer in the same manner, but with the app-drawer.png file
Here is the PSD file, if you want to change soemthing:

This is it for the layout. I hope you like it, and if you do, plz press the "Thanks Button"^^

WOW~
That's cool

This is great NPC But I recommend you change the font, make it a bit lighter. And set the weather widget/whatever as the touch area to, redirect it to the News&Weather App.
I'm jelly. I wish I had that much creativity.

Thanks for the feedback^^ lighter, really? I thought the font was already very light
Yes I would want that too, but UCCW cant do that if I am not wrong and even if it could, that would require everyone to have the same weather app, which the touch would redirect the user to.

yep I will. I wanted to throw them into the updated zip, which I wanted to upload today, but since moles said the next build was only hours away I think you will get them with the upcoming 1.8^^
Great Work can you please Share the Wallpaper in Black or Black with German Language ? Thanks

in german text is easily possible^^
If you want a solid black background I can easily do that, but you will lose the boxes around the facebook and twitter icons or the weather, do you want that?
Great, Black Wallpaper without boxes is ok, with German Language Perfekt and original with German Language please, Thanks
