[MOD][launcher][update] Go Launcher Ex v2.61 transparent icons (labels) background

Hello fellow Go Launcher users,
I've spent hours and hours trying to find a way to make this or find someone who did it before me - and failed.
So I decided to do it myself and without any more stupid talk, here it is. A modded .apk file for the latest version of Go Launcher EX with transparent icon backgrounds and white icon labels.
[Installation:] Just uninstall the previous version and install this one. Do not forget to backup your settings before the uninstall!!!
Absolutely nothing else was touched in the original files!
I am apologizing up front if by my actions I've violated any rules. I am just trying to help the community since I've seen this being requested over and over again.
[UPDATE-02-Sep]:
I've modded the latest version v2.53final and added it to the same place as the other one.
I've added a version with BIG icons (from 48px to 64px). Please note that because of that the labels are overlapped with the icons, so you will have to hide them!!! I can't figure any other way for now. Also check the screenshot and note the little edges on the icons. I personally do not like this version and am sticking to my original one, but many people have requested it, so here it is.
[UPDATE-16-Sep]:
Added v2.55final. This version has the background removed and the font of the icons is reduced by 1px from 12 to 11.
[UPDATE 21-Sep]:
Added v2.57final with 12px font size and as requested v2.57final 12px font with BIG icons.
I've removed the older versions from the post to keep it neat. They are still in the main directory on the site and can be accessed here:

Added v2.58final with 12px font size.
[UPDATE 04-Oct]
Added v2.58final with 11px font size and 48px dock icons(same as the other ones). The dock height has been re sized from 52 to 56px to fit the icons better. You might have to choose the dock background again so that it is parsed properly!

Hi mate,
There must be something wrong... I've just downloaded the file from my phone and from my laptop for the sake of testing. It is OK.
Please note that you have to replace the "-" after www with a "." for it to work. I am not allowed to paste a valid URL just yet.
Also have in mind that this is not a zipped file and you do not need to extract anything from it. Just copy it to your device and install it from there, exactly as it is!

Noob question here, how do you mod the file? I have a rooted Nook Touch which is gray scale and am unable to read some of the setting labels. This is a B&W copy of what I'm talking about.

This is inevitable, actually that is the reason they have the background on the first place... but I have good news for you - I've created another mod with black labels and white shadow, which should look very good on light wallpapers. Check it out in the link on top.
To answer your question - it is not very easy:
1. get the original .apk file
2. use an apktool to extract the contents (the tool can be found on this forum)
3. mod some color strings inside the files:
a) background color: res/values/colors.xml - bubble_dark_background
b) label color: res/values/styles.xml - Workspace Icon - android:textColor
c) label shadow color: res/values/styles.xml - Workspace Icon - android:shadowColor
4. build the apk again
5. use a signing tool to sign the file (it can't be installed otherwise)
6. done

Thank you. This was one of the two major reasons why I prefer ADW EX over Go Launcher EX, the other being that I can't hide the dock or make dock icons bigger. Now I'm down to one reason.

Hi,
You're welcome! I have a comment on these however. I do not know how to hide the dock, but I noticed that the dock icons are at 40px while the others are at 48px. I can mod the file to use 48px icons for the dock . Let me know...

How about making 4 icons in the dock. It always puzzled me that there are very very few launchers have this feature.
The few that have this are ugly as hell.
I am looking for the miui look, so 4 icons dock, icons in the dock same size as the screen.
If you could hack that for me I would be willing to donate

I'm looking into this but can't find anything about the number of icons in the dock. I am not sure if this is a part of the launcher or the ROM itself. I've found that you can hide the dock though... but it leaves you with one big empty space ...

I have run the miui adw launcher from the market.
It is just the adw launcher hacked with 4 icons.
But there is the problem that the icons are way to big.
I can provide you that apk, maybe you can have look to see how its done or how to downsize the icons.

Only thing is though when i have a theme selected ie Blackglass the background is there. Unless I select the default theme and then manually use my own icons for each app.

this is an icon set which I created for Desktop Visualizer, and also my first release here on XDA.
These icons are in "2x1" size and you can dispose them as you wish.
In the next days I'll release more icons, even with different size and style.
To apply:
Of course you need Desktop Visualizer installed on your phone
Long press on the screen
Select "Desktop Visualizer(2x1)"
Tap the icon
Tap "Select Icon"
Tap "Image File" (if you have the DVRImageSlicer addon you can also choose "Add-Ons" > "NoPaddingPicker" which give better quality images with some launchers)
Select the image
Select the action, clear the laber, remove the touch effect color and press OK.

Thanks, the problem is that DVR does not support folders. Also I doubt there are folder applications that allow the use of custom icons... I mean big like these.
Any suggestion will be accepted

Hehehe thank you! I've just seen your work (the first one) and it's very very nice too, colorful icons with high contrasts, just perfect for SA+. I suggest you to continue that one instead of the black-based

I'm using the mod version of GO Launcher EX v2.57 with big icons (you can find it here) but there should be no differences between this mod and the official release.. using DVR I mean. And the grid is standard 4x4.
I'll upload the icons soon, just give me few minutes...

WP7 style icons: ONLINE.
At the moment I have only those 5, but I'll create more in the next days.

I can't seem to align them like you did...
They are more far apart, and the top of the Settings one isnt aligned with the top of the email one...

Because you're using GO Launcher EX and these icons are made to fit the TouchWiz UI screen (which takes a lot of space on the bottom). Change launcher or wait for my next release!

My bad, I thought you used GO too, but even if I swap to TW they still don't align as well as on your printscreen

It's working in combination with Simi Folder.. i already use it that way with other 2x1 icons.. just not that pretty ones so i want yours

Ok so, what you have to do is download the DVR addon "DVRImageSlicer" and then, for the icon selection, instead of clicking on "Image File" click on "Add-Ons" and "NoPaddingPicker". This will basically allign all the images just like shown in my screenshot.

ICS Digital Desk Clock as a Widget

In the stock ICS alarm settings from the stock analogue clock widget you can access a digital "desk clock" mode. If you long touch this desk clock, the screen goes black and you get a very sleek blue version.

I have scoured the web and downloaded countless digital clock apps looking for something that achieves this blue digital clock in widget form. One widget came close ( market.android.com/details?id=com.eightsoft.ICSDigitalClock ), but it has a background that can't be removed and the text doesn't even fit into it properly.
Anyone know of a widget that fits the bill? Am I better off just working out how to make it myself?

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't 100% clear. I'm after a clock that looks identical to the screenshot I posted. Same font, same colour (or the options to set it up as such).

it may not be exactly the same, but i think it's the closest one available at the moment.
If you find wt you looking for please share it with us here as i also like that blue lock clock.

In the zip is a .mtpref File. (make a restore wit minimalistic text[free])
fonts: AndroidClock.ttf, Roboto-Regular.ttf
if you mean this

Indeed it is...and I did try Minimalistic Text but I have no idea how to go about inserting different fonts into it. Perhaps if you could dumb it down a notch for me?

1. Create new folder on sd card called 'fonts.' Make sure there are no subfolders within it - just the actual true type font files.
2. Pick folder 'font,' not specific sub font, in the global settings for font selection.
3. Under each text type on each widget - normal, accented, nonaccented - you must select the font, the list should populate when you do as above.

Argh so easy! Don't know how on Earth I missed the "choose fonts" folder before. Thank you kind sir!

I have no idea how to get minimalist text widget onto home screen. No long press for widgets in ICS.
Anybody know how I can get this to work? I installed the app from market but they don't appear in the widgets section...
EDIT: Seems it takes time for newly installed widget apps to populate the widget section. I see them after a while.

sorry, but i need you to noob it down even further. first, i need hd widgets correct? then i create the new fonts folder within the sdcard directory and copy the contents of your fonts zip into that new folder. what's with the uhr folder? once those are install i can them go into hd widgets and fiddle with the settings?
appreciate the walk through assistance.

oh, minimalistic text the app.....

took a while, but i finally figured it out.

Try using one more clock widget app it has the ics theme that youvwant plus many more and you can change the colors of the clock too

i downloaded the minimalistic text app and created the fonts folder with the fonts in it

Unfortunately, that is not possible in ICS or using an ICS-based Launcher (like Nova or Apex). That would be possible if you would use, say, Go Launcher EX (for which I have made these icons into a theme - ask and I can send it to you) but then you would miss out on all the ICS sweetness.
Hopefully soon someone will enable some sort of full theming support in one of the ICS launchers. Until then we'll have to make do with the home screens...

What you can do in nova or apex is to manually change each shortcut (on the desktop, not in drawer) by holding down the icon and pressing edit, then changing the shortcut. Or if you know a little on themeing, manually replace the launcher icon with the splash icon.

sorry but i do not agree with your statement. You can change the icon also in the drawer but you have to manually change the icons in the apk with tools. saying this because was looking for the same thing and after trying and asking with help of persons here in the forum i was able to change the icons also in the drawer and im not using any launcher but the default ics launcher

NOVA LAUNCHER:
• 12×12 desktop grid
• Hide status bar
• Hide dock/disable
• Gesture down for status bar (optional prime)
• App label = disable/do not show

Multipicture Live Wallpaper (MPLW)
Menu bar/tap and hold desktop – wall paper – live wall paper.
• Make sure the common settings – Crop/Resize Ratio is FIT TO FULL SCREEN
• Screen 1 settings – picture source – select the file (white or black depends to ur phone)
APPLY WALL PAPER.

EYE IN THE SKY WIDGETS
• Select the forecast and customize your desire color.
I prefer teal since it matches the font color for text/calls/mail
• It will display the icons of clouds etc… so i made it thinner to hide the clouds

UCCW – battery/sms/call/mail count
• Download from https://www.dropbox.com/s/hsxcsiycw5mwhj1/bat.uzip
• Copy to /sdcard/UltimateCustomClockWidget folder
• I assume you know how to use it and import as file the uzip file… resize to match/aline with text/calls/Mail
(ask me if you do not know how to use UCCW.. search first)

DESKTOP VISUALIZER
• Basically, the marbles inside will serve as the app icon.. so we need blank PNG.

• Always select 1×1 DeskVis widget and just resize it to fit the icons.
just set up the widgets(do not configure yet to avoid confusion) see image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8exa8nzsqewttre/tutDV.png
• after polotting, then configure each one, icons will be the BLANK PNG and select the app to launch
• select NONE for the touch effect
• Clear label text/name
• Vibration, select on or system/haptic
do that for all of the DV set ups and lastly..
tap and hold on anywhere (not with the widgets) Nova actions, select APP Drawer.
just fit it near the APP marble and for the icon, select blank as well.
Go to nova settings again and lock desktop to avoid moving invisible DV widgets.
I almost forgot, for zooper widget.. just select the default from the list and modify the location/colors if you want too… recommended to select 5×1 above size.
