Ok now I know there are a few posts about this issue.
I have recently switched to Verizon so my GSM support will be very limited but will provide help still if I can
Edit: I no longer have an Incredible 2 so my support will be limited to past experience, but as always I will still continue to help as much as possible.
What I'm trying to do is make a list of tested roms with full GSM support.
I know a lot of people unlock this phone hoping to flash a new rom, but unfortunately not many roms have full GSM support as of yet
**Note**
If you are a T-Mobile or AT&T customer (possibly other carriers as well). The best you will get is Edge network. 30 KB/s at best data speed. This is known and there's nothing we can do about it.
As of today (8/1/2012) these are the roms I know have, and have tested for GSM functionality. I will add to this list as I test new roms.
If you know of one I don't and can confirm its GSM ready let me know an I'll add it to the list.
====================================================================
A few have been wanting to know how to unlock your Incredible 2 for non-Verizon sim cards. So by request I have this to add.
In order to fully unlock your phone simply do this.
1.(Optional) Root and S-off the phone via Revolutionary.
2. Go to HTCimeiunlock.com and enter your IMEI number, carrier (Verizon) and check out. Your unlock code should be emailed to you within the hour, it took less than 15 minutes for me.
3. After receiving your Unlock code, go into your phones settings. Open up Security, there should be an option to enable/disable sim lock.
Choose disable Sim Lock, enter the unlock code here, then after you finish the phone will reboot automatically, and after it boots back up, you are unlocked permanently. Feel free to insert whatever sim card you want now.
4. After unlocking you may flash whatever from you want without EVER having to unlock again. This is a ONE time thing. No matter what you do at this point your phone will ALWAYS be unlocked, switch roms as much as you like, it will not affect your unlock status.

[*] An easy GSM temp fix for anyone who needs it: Namely MIUI users
Step 1: Dial *#*#4636#*#* to get into test mode
Step 2: Phone Information > Set preferred network type: GSM only. Then your phone will start crashing, until you do the step 3 fix.
Step 3:
> adb shell (you can use a terminal emulator as well and it works fine)
# su
# sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db 'update secure set value="1" where name="preferred_network_mode"'
# reboot
Now GSM works.
**Note** you can also do this in a Terminal Emulator as well and it works the same. And you may have to go to Network operators afterwards then choose Select Automatically
To get accurate signal bar follow these steps.
Using build.prop Editor, edit the build prop "ro.telephony.ril.v3". In the Property Key add: ",signalstrength" onto datacall to look like this: datacall, signalstrength
Press save and reboot. I cleared dalvik and cache also... Don't know if this is needed or not for those that are using the sqlite3 fix.
This worked for me, even for Nitsuj17's MIUI v4 Rom.
Unfortunately didn't worked with Sense Based Roms except UKB by switching the 1 for a 3

i dont think devs are removing it from their roms, its that sense 3.5 is only on cdma phones as of right now i believe, meaning gsm support is hard to implement on the phones.
i'm no dev, so correct me if i'm wrong on this.
well I'm not so sure. On RCMix 4.0 Energized Blue Edition it seemed like there is some sort of gsm options in the tweeks menu but its very confusing of how it actually works. Also theres no apn settings either.

I would like ask the devs here to PLEASE PLEASE stop removing GSM / Sim Card support, or at least provide a way of adding it back into your roms I beg of you, not everyone uses CDMA.
Especially for the Sense 3.5 roms. These ones in particular NEED GSM support.

the reason that developers don't activate the GSM for Global Phone is as Rmk stated " it ( GSM) could be done but it will disable CDMA Radio permanently " , note also that CDMA is very Complex programming compared to GSM . Developers will then prefer to develop roms for the primary use " which is Verizon CDMA Phone "
first of All , All Sense 3,5 Roms with new Base 1.05 have Partial GSM Capability , it means you will have GSM Signal , and can send and receive Calls , i didn't test messaging . BUT NO MOBILE DATA
to get a Stable GSM Signal you should adjust setting in phone information to GSM Only Mode ( this mode forces 2G only even if 3G is available ) .
to understand the deference between modes in phone information , and which one to choose ( will affects 2G and 3G capability ) read my Post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19894146#post19894146
as long as there is no APN menu inside setting to input your APN , Mobile Data will not work even if you used APK's from the market to input your APN
there is only one Rom Sense 3.5 that has Perfect GSM ( Signal and Mobile data ) , But has some Bugs and one of them is very annoying , and the developer moved to another newer Rom now , this means Bugs stay
i installed a ton of roms and tested them all for GSM , my guess is the nearest that would do that is Virtuous Affinity ( if it could be done ) , because it is the ONLY sense 3.5 new Base 1.05 that Supports the original Global Phone firmware Commands ( EPST , testing mode, Diagnostic mode ) and behaves exactly like it
Virtous Unity 2.39 has a GSM patch and reported working by users who try it
hope that helps
Newt's incredible sensation has gsm support, I believe. His 3d might as well. Those are both sense 3.0 though. Reason for no gsm on 3.5 is as others have stated, the roms are not from global phones. The devs aren't removing it, it was never there to begin with. Newt has said he will work on gsm soon, but to code it into a cdma rom is difficult and time consuming.

Newt's sensation is the original Verizon Rom mixed with some sense 3 as i remember, and also rmk rom is a rooted De-bloated original rom sense 2.1
Newt 3D gsm is not stable and GSM acts weird for me at least , the above 2 have better Global phone GSM
honestly i dont do anything to remove gsm functionality from my roms, but since i use verizon and have no way to test gsm i dont put too much effort into figuring if it works or not in the stuff i do
i realize its an inconvience for those who need global or those not on vzw...but it is what it is

Please in NTSH ics as another GSM rom, as there is a patch to make it work.
Thanks for the info, see I was not aware of all that. I'm no dev.
I'll confirm Virtuous Unity does work with the patch. I used it for a day. Affinity seems to be showing some life but I tried sms and nothing.
The ics beta has a gsm patch? I would like to know where, I've heard of it but never found it yet.

Dinc2 on Tmobile
I need to root three new Dinc 2's so they work on Tmobile. I left Verizon because of outrageous bills and ding dong customers service reps. Have tried to get unlock codes by calling Verizon (which HTC suggested) but even though I paid my bill for a year, paid the cancellation fees of almost $700, elevated my request to supervisors, Verizon says they won't give me unlock codes because they won't help me use the phones on a competitors network. Love corporation like this. ITS VERIZON POLICY. My son tried rooting the phone using Revolutionary which failed.
Any suggestions? This thread leads me to believe that there are only buggy roms?

Rooting first (after HBoot downgrade from .98 to .97) for S-OFF and installing a custom ROM for one's own specific needs are done in stages, in addition to getting VZW to unlock the GSM sim card lock(s) to use on other carriers.
It's best to request VZW to lookup & provide you with the code to unlock while you are their customer in good standing (for 90 to 180 days, timeframe varied from various posts) and especially helpful using a stock or near stock SENSE rom. It's difficult to impossible once you terminate your CDMA services with big RED, one of the eBay vendor is reported to be able to generate or lookup the code to unlock this device, for a fee (I've used them in the past, but as a last resort, worth looking into.
There is at least two near stock Sense ROM for rooted phone, debloated & optimized for DI2, RMK's Ginger Sense and andyBones Stock 5.x (with the latest OTA changes incorporated + some nice touches added) that should work on unlocked quadbands used by T-Mo & AT&T (probably needed to change APN & browsing/MMS settings, etc.) - I've used RMK's ROM for a little while and it's smooth & stable, not buggy at all (probably less prone to problems with big Red's own releases, LOL)
Owning 2 rooted DI2 in black & red, one with stock kernel and 2nd. one with OC kernel option, my preferred ROM is SR's Zeus V1.3 on their website (Google for it) CS's Sabotage Sense ROM is based on stock with nice touches, and both reported to work on GSM - all 4 of them (and there are several others out there) will work on voice & SMS, broadband data access will be a little more challenging depending on your mobile carrier's frequncy & radio towers. The DI2 unlocked is likely to give 2.5/3G speed vs. 3.5G (so called T-Mobile 4G speed) unless you can work with their tech. support to configure & setup your data plan to optimize their network handshaking with your device - changing the APN and MMS settings are probably hidden/buried (hopefully not locked.)
My previously unlocked global VZW phones used GSM bands mainly for voice calls, occassional SMS and web browing on the go, but use WiFi whenever possible with default to mobile internet as a backup. As several developers mentioned, it's a challenge for them to test/verify GSM functionality so when possible, it's up to us to beta and report back so that they can try to address the issues.

I downgraded to 2.3.3 then used revolutionary to get s-off & root.
Then booted to recovery and started flashing new roms.
As far as GSM roms go, I've been doing my best poking around to see what answers I can get on this.
So far SkyraiderZeus, and Virtuous Unity w/ GSM patch seem to be a couple of the best custom ones with Sense.
As far as stock roms go, andyBONESTOCK and rmk Gingersense are the best, rock solid roms, but duh they're stock.
The Merry Christmas ICS build has GSM as well but the camera still doesn't work yet.
I got GSM to work for calling on most if not the Sense 3.5 roms by going to phone information in the tweeks menu or by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and changing the network mode to GSM only and rebooting, still no SMS or data yet but I'm still trying to get that fixed at least for SMS.
If anyone knows how to fix this please say something. Then at least the REALLY important parts will work (calling&SMS)
GingerBang Vanilla, TSM poolparty 1.6, and CM7 are good ones if you don't want Sense.

I used a website to unlock my DInc2.
Just Google "unlock incredible 2" and you should find it pretty quick.

I'm using the Skyraider 1.3 on my Incredible 2 and it's working great here during my vacation in the Philippines (GSM Network). I got the unlock code a while back from Verizon, and basically flopped in a SIM, and set the PHONE's to preferred network to GSM / UMTS.
Only problem was DATA, couldn't use it until I added the Globe's APN manually - setting the "APN", the "MCC", and the "MNC" using the free app "APN MANAGER" did the trick.
The connectivity icons change from "G" (GPRS?), "E" (EDGE), "3G", and "H" (HSPA?) depending on where i'm at..
Yes I forgot to mention. If you aren't using verizons network you have to configure the apn settings manually.
I am a tmobile customer so i have to do this all the time, so i didnt think about it.

So are people getting 3G Data on Tmobile(or ATT) in the US
I thought those 3G Radio bands were locked on the Inc2?
I only get Edge when I put a Tmobile SIM in mine.

Hi, I have the Sprint Touch Pro 2 and have a couple basic questions. Is this considered the Rhodium 400 or how do I determine? And I see that there are six main threads here regarding the "HTC Rhodium: Touch Pro2, Tilt 2" but only the last one mentions CDMA. So does that mean since mine is CDMA that all of the other five threads of fixes, cabs, themes and so on do not apply to me? Or if some of them do, how will I know if what is being discussed will apply to CDMA as well as GSM?
Thanks
Most of the Cabs will work just fine depending on what they are supposed to do. The one think you have to be very careful of is the difference in ROMs. They are not interchangable but it is unlikely that you will be playing with them for a while at least.
The CDMA catagory is more for CDMA specific stuff. The other catagories will have stuff that will work for both GSM and CDMA with the usual caveat of depending what they are for.
The RHOD400 is indeed the Sprint Touch Pro2, though you can always find this yourself by looking under the battery of your device, and searching for the string of text that says RHODXXX, where XXX is a number. The various subforums (with the exception of the ROM Development and CDMA Rhodium subforums) are pretty much model independent.
The biggest thing to watch out for is flashing GSM radios and OS ROMs on your CDMA device, as flashing those can and often will brick your device. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people with completely bricked Rhodiums because they flashed an incompatible radio ROM. If you want to flash a new OS ROM or radio ROM, absolutely make sure it's CDMA, as the GSM ones found here often won't say they're GSM. Since XDA-Developers is primarily GSM, a good place to look for CDMA Rhodium ROMs is PPCGeeks, here.
Ok guys thanks for the help. Thr ROM I am really hoping to try is Juicy's LEO WM 6.5 Sense 2.5 that looks pretty much eaxctly like the stock HD2 UI, including the animated weather on the home screen background. Is that available here set up to work on the Sprint Touch Pro 2, without a lot of fixing issues after the flash? I know there seems to be a MMS issue according to the thread I saw over at PPCGeeks. But I am hoping to find one here that loads and has the phone and data working without a lot of grief. And a cab available to fix the MMS that simply is proven to work for everyone. Any help would be much appreciated. I have already unlocked the phone and am very familiar with flashing ROMS. I did it extensivly on my previous Touch Vouge and Touch Pro Raphael. But only used the NFSFAN ROMs as they were always the shi_.
juicy r10 is going to be kinda slow compared to some other roms, mainly because of sense 2.5. If you are stuck on using sense 2.5 juicy or energy leo roms are probably the best, but still are much less responsive than any sense 2.1 rom.
Honestly if you want a stable rom (no daily soft reset) I would suggest MightyRom or Energy Pheonix. Some people also like the Mr.X 2.1 ROM. Basically our processor is just slightly not good enough to keep up with 2.5 IMO.

Ok thanks for the comments. Are either of the ones suggested available in a Sprint CDMA version that has the provisioning working right out of the gate. And do they have the Twitter tab in the sense UI?
Thanks,
Sense 2.1 (for GSM at least, maybe also for CDMA) has animated weather, but only for the default background. The attached cab allows for animated weather on any background. Should work on CDMA since it's not a Rom, but I can't assure anything.
All credits to the programer, I found this cab in a few weeks ago from a file sharing service, I thought I bookmarked the address but I didn't.

Mightyrom does not have sprint provisioning out of the gate, you will have to do a quick/easy programming. Install the rom, do 1-2 hard resets (I do one from bootloader, one from the clear memory screen), on restart open your start menu, go to system and click carrier provisioning. Load sprint, it will soft reset and then you can program your phone.
I'm not sure about the energy rom, I think it does something very similar on the first boot.
Mightyrom comes with the weather animations, it doesn't have the quick launch icons on the today screen though. No twitter tab either.

There are a few reasons why some might actually need root the most important being the ability to put your applications onto the SD card (a2sd). Some people love to fill their phones to the brim with applications and currently there is no stock feature that allows you to use a2sd. Another feature that rooting allows is the capacity to use a wireless data sharing application that would give one the ability to use their phone as a modem with any wirelessly enabled laptop or computer. Currently there are a couple of applications in the market that will allow the use of your phone as a modem but I have found them to be less efficient than the rooted solution and limited as free versions and somewhat expensive for the full featured versions. There is talk that the 2.2 (FroYo) system update will include the a2sd feature but I was told by a tmobile beta device and software tester that he is confident that a2sd and native data tethering (network data connection sharing) with a usb cable will NOT be features supported natively in the coming FroYo (2.2) system update.
Rooting is also good for simply trying out customized and themed operating systems in the form of ROMs. Some folks have a big problem with the tmobile branded "Sense" operating system (OS) that was shipped with the phone. I love the Sense OS and I was a hardcore "Cyanogen Mod" ROM fan ... I can't imagine using a Cyanogen ROM at this point but I will try a Cyanogen ROM once that particular ROM is released because those ROMs are usually very nice. As the rooting scene develops there might by a way to "overclock" the processor to a higher speed than the 600mhz clock speed the stock ROM and all root ROMs are currently set. There has been no such overclocking achieved or utilized with a rooted ROM for the MT3GS at this point. Overclocking reduces battery life so you really have to choose whether a subtle performance improvement is worth the loss of battery longevity throughout the day.
Currently I think stock and unrooted is the way to go as the ROM's that are currently available for the MT3GS are no real improvement over stock ... but if you need a2sd due to limited internal memory or you need a mobile modem for your laptop or home computer then it is absolutely worth while. So it all depends on what you are trying improve the efficiency of when it comes to rooting.

It's fast, responsive and the only thing I was going to do was purchase a 32 gig card and be done with it . I started poking around the forums and that's how I came across "rooting". I just came from a jailbroken, unlocked Iphone 3g so I was totally stoked about doing this to my phone. But as I was reading up on it, I really did not see the purpose in rooting the mt3g slide just yet, besides like you said, the apps2sd and the tethering (which I did not know I could do on this phone until you mentioned it). I am a firm believer in tethering and I even downloaded the PdaNet app onto my phone but have yet to test it out.
My battery life is decent considering I keep 3g on at all times. Granted, there are a few spots that I travel to that have to use Edge but those spots are small. I saw a few videos with some nice roms but they all had the Sense UI removed and basically looked like every other android phone. I personally would like to "root" my phone while retaining Sense UI. I really like the "live wallpapers" and I have seen videos with it running on the slide and it looks really nice. Have you heard of an app called SetCpu <--spelling? I saw that people were able to overclock their chips significantly and I was wondering if I could use this same app on my mt3g slide?

Oh ok I was just wondering. I cannot wait until that becomes available for our phones.

Are you people total knuckleheads or just totally miguided and misinformed
I have it on good authority ( as the person sitting next to me at the moment can attest, that Team Cyanogen does indeed have a froyo 2.2 like build out for the G1, soon to be available for the MT3GS....It has native tethering, native JIT, native apps2SD, and native froyo gmail, changes to the market and native FROYO 2.2 calendar and many other tasty goodies......without all of the junk of a sense UI, so put all these inferior and one step backwards builds on your nice new shiny phone (like putting retreads on a Lamborghini)and get your heads out of your know nothing asses, and wait 2 months top for (as they say on many pizza boxes, you've tried all the rest....now try the best) a MT3GS cyanogen build
As excited as I am about obsidian's post (/sarcasm), it has no relevance to this discussion.
I'm also missing some paid apps with this ROM. Specifically Pure Calendar Agenda widget. When I get some time this weekend I'm going to try out another ROM and see what happens.
That being said, looking on Google's support boards, it might not be a ROM specific problem, but could be account related.
That is good to know. If it's an account issue, are they working on a fix for it? I don't want to root my phone then not be able to see certain products in the market place.

Oh, I should be more specific. The threads I found on Google's boards were saying the problem seemed tied to Google accounts. But I've also seen some people say that changing ROMs has done it too. I'll flash something else tomorrow and check it out.
Anyone out there using this device yet? I'm about to pick up a Desire HD from Telus that has been unlocked. I just wanna hear your thoughts.
Particularly, any issues with flashing ROMs? or modifications in general? Telus had locked up the Milestone very well before that devs had no way of rooting\modifying it.
Any known issues so far?

I've had the telus desire hd for a few days now [coming from a samsung captivate]
So far I've been able to flash all ROMs successfully with sound [just flash the telus kernal floating around this forum after the flash the ROM] except CM7.... which I've found out they will be working on a kernel once HTC releases the source code.

With "other" roms do you notice any speed decreases or anything laggy? Did you happen to flash a no sense rom on your telus dhd with no problems?
No, I have not found any lag with the custom roms, however there are a couple of nagging issues.
I am currenlty running Android Revolution 2.0.12 on my Telus DHD using the Telus Kernel. Sound works fine, battery life is good, signal is good but it is now struggling to play HD Youtube videos and some games (That use 3D) are failing. This is a known issue with the Telus Kernel and I can't wait for the source to come out so we can patch some of the more custom kernels.
is there a way to differentiate between a soft unlock and a hard-coded unlock (SIM)? Perhaps within the About Phone section?
Not really a major issue but really depends on what you want to use the phone for and your Data plan. Im told by Telus support that the data should still work when you see the 3G logo instead of the H. I have seen otherwise and it stops, really noticeable while streaming music. this has happened only a small number of times and could be for many other reasons.
Second issue. I have used many different programs that allow you to stream music by playing .pls files, Shoutcast. most of the streams fail to load via mobile data connection and give you an error connection failed, but work 100% of the time via Wifi and my BB Torch which is 3G only. Telus support could not find a reason for this so the only reason they gave me was network limitations.
anyone else notice this?
luckily I can still return my phone and go back to my Torch
For anyone with a Telus DHD, the new Android Revolution 2.0.14 has the new Apache kernel built from HTC's new source. Wokrs great out of the box, no sound or video issues so far!

going to try this right now!!
will give thanks if it works
Please advise if Wifi Works. Please advise if audio quality in phone call is tinny or not.
Flashed Android Revolution HD "4G" 2.0.14, Wifi, sound, video, all perfect!! ~40 in Linpack and 1800 in quadrant with the slight overclock.
Then I flashed this kernel [KERNEL]Buzz OC/UV 1.61Ghz CFS+BFQ+SmartAss+TUN+EXT4+.29 ACE 1.3.0 [22/02/2011] and it is flawless! I'm happy =] The kernel source released contains the patches for audio/video for both the inspire 4G which is basically what our desire hd is
Just scored 2719 in Quadrant. If I could figure out how to take a screenshot now...
I love my Sprint Gnex, although service sucks. Anyways, I'm confused....
Do I need to upgrade the kernel to do a JB rom? Also, is there a CM10 for Sprint GNex? I'm running the CM9 and I love it. I'm confused with all the different versions I'm seeing and stuff like that and want to make sure that I install the right one so that I can install and let it go.
I did try the are you jellin, and I didn't think it ran too smooth on my phone, so I reverted back to the CM9.
Thanks.

ROM's usually come with a compatible kernel (ie if its a JB rom it'll have a JB kernel, whether it's stock or dev made is another story) so you won't need to.
If you want JB fast and install and forget, stock is the only option. Everything else is still early days for JB custom ROM's as for example, CM10 is still getting stuff merged to it from CM9 and not long ago CM10 was just JB + CM apps, no custom stuff.
Also if you had previously tried a JB rom and it wasn't obviously smooth you probably messed up somewhere (perhaps installing an ICS kernel??)
Next time try putting your question (simplified to fit) in the subject box. It is a pain to click on a thread to know what the question is (how would we know if we could answer it?) and I suspect it is also the reason why I'm the first to reply.

Ok thank you. I haven't changed any kernals or anything like that. I pretty much just downloaded it and installed it as is. It ran and stuff like that and was pretty cool, but I had a decent amount of FC's and Google Talk wouldn't open for the love of God. The GPS also became pretty inaccurate as I use My Tracks for running on a near daily basis and the inaccuracies with the GPS and timing really couldn't work for me. That was on the Jellin rom.
Where can I find the CM10 version? Or are you saying that its a work in process yet? Just wanted to clarify?
Thanks for help. I'll edit subject if it let me.
It was probably the ROM then. If you really want to try jellybean flash bigxie's (I think that works on CDMA)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771534 This is for GSM, I'm not sure if it works on CDMA but there's probably one in the Sprint Dev forums. CM10 is still a work in progress though, some customisations from CM9 will not be there but will be coming soon. To be 100% clear, if you can't live without CM9 stuff, wait a little longer for CM10/AOKP/ETC JB. They're still porting stuff from ICS over.

It will work on CDMA, but you will have to flash its CDMA equalivalent.
DO NOT FLASH MAGURO....
VZW = toro
Sprint = toroplus.... so OP would want toroplus.
Download Link: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=toroplus
Gapps: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=gapps
Most of the features are in CM10 atm... looking at my phone. I have,
- Lock screen customizations
- Status bar tweaks (battery, time)
- Notification widgets
- Volume rocker wake
......... etc.
Navigation bar feature needs to be added in.
One of my big things is the data roaming... CM9 gave me more data roaming features. I live in Mexico, but work in San Diego. Sprint sucks in South San Diego by the 5 (and in Tijuana, Mexico) so I domestically roam on Verizon (I presume). But with stock, when the phone would switch from Sprint to Domestic Roaming to International, there is a little lag with the cut off, hence my average int roaming data bill is like $30 extra bucks a month since the phone was released (for the end of May it was like $15 and June was $33). With CM9, I had more control and was able to open up Domestic Roaming and keep the Int Roaming off.... It also had a better handling of the switching of the service providers on the hand offs as my average bill running CM 9 is about $8 this month.
That's another reason I like the CM9, seems like the best ROM to handle my situation... Sprint sucks. If I wasn't on a 3rd party plan for $30 a month I'd be on Verizon in a heartbeat.
I had the Epic 4G prior to this phone and never had any INT Data Charges.... Only with Nexus.

I all ready installed... lol Fun, isn't it? So I got a question then... If I pay for the ROM Manager, will that let me seamlessly update the app?
Also, I can confirm that the latest build of CM10 does not have the Data Roaming features that the CM9 has had. It seems to be running smoothly as of right now, but cutting down on Int Roaming is huge for me.... Don't tell nobody (ha ha) but I got a Sprint Airave running at my house in Mexico and it works fine.... just traveling between my house and the USA is where I get the data charges from. I wish they would work on putting two features in...
1. Domestic Data Roaming Control
2. International Data Roaming Control
Remember, its not like I'm in deep in Mexico. I'm along the border, so constantly in and out of service and thats why I need those separate controls that most people wouldn't need because you are either international or you aren't.
Here is where my Noob shows. I try to learn as I go along, but find many things that are above my head. I take a long time to puzzle through things, and when stuck, someone from XDA can usually point me in the right direction. This question regards Kernels for the Verizon Dev Ed Note 4. The kernels that seem to be available are either stock, or CM12 ROM early builds. The Touch Wiz kernels that I can find, other than Starkissed, are based on other carriers, mostly T-Mobile, or for other versions of the phone. I understand that there are carrier specific files for each carrier that should be used for each carrier's phones. I have tried several of the T-Mobile kernels, and they seem to work 99.99% of the time, and rarely get glitches, but I do run across several odd things that seem to be kernel related. I will give a concrete example: My wife and I both have Note 4 Dev Eds. She is running Definitive NJ5 1.6 with the stock kernel. I am running the same Definitive 1.6 but with the AEL 7.2 TMO kernel. (I know that Definitive 1.8 came out, and both of us will be on it by the weekend, but that is a different issue). Here is the strange thing -- The standard Google Play Netflix app (Yes, I did get a free year of Netflix with the second Dev Ed Note 4 buy) works on her phone, but not mine. Yes, I know we have many different apps on each phone and so on, but when I switch back to full NJ5 with Definitive (ie stock Kernel), the problem goes away. On her phone the app proceeds to a sign in page, on my phone the app takes about 4 or 5 minutes of spinning and then says it can't establish a connection. I tried to get a logcat, but a 5 minute logcat is a huge pile of information that I don't think is within my abilities to evaluate / unravel. I was wondering if it could be a TMO versus VZW carrier specific issue. I love the AEL kernel and the incredible customization it allows. Is there a formal set of carrier specific files that can be substituted or imported into the TMO Kernels to make them fully VZW compatible, or is this an extensive "porting project"? Does someone simply have a list of values that need to be changed or easily plugged in, or is this a big developer level issue? What is the level of knowledge needed to do such a thing? Thank you in advance for your patience and help.
Well, I found out that it was not a Kernel specific problem, but a Netflix app specific problem involving it wanting SELinux. I should have searched better, though I thought I did -- I should have known, XDA came through again.
