This is probably a silly question but wouldn't it be awesome to have something like Webtop+ or Ubuntop ported to the Epic touch? I know Ubuntu is already working on our phones but I would like the Flash Player capability in Firefox Web browser and and maybe be able to control the phones Interface in a separate window like the photon 4G. If somebody knows how to install the flash player plugin within Ubuntu any information would be much appreciated. Wishful thinking probably but it never hurts to ask.

Facetime on iOS can do it...
Any Devs out there played around with that idea? It seems like the perfect add-on for Evo owners.
So, no thoughts???
This would be a question for the Q&A section.
Here you go.
Hey guys i am just wondering is it EVER possible to run apple OS on Samsung epic?
android is an open source i know and they already got it to work on iphones but why can't we work apple os or mac os on our samsung epics since both of the operation system are linux based?
If this will never work can you please answer me with a reason and not just NO won't work.
thank you
Iphone OS is closed source it will most likely never happen
android is open source whch is why its able to run on the iphone
Please post in the right section next time should be in the
Q&A section
Never gonna happen because ios is not opensource
We are already having trouble getting froyo working properly so start with baby steps
Ota froyo>cm gingerbread>then maybe ios but still never gonna happen
Ur welcome to try porting it if you want

Why would you want it? I am sure it can be done, as they have MacOS on regular computers. However, you are going to run into problems with getting radios and such to work, as you will need custom drivers. You will also have to write a driver to allow it to sync with iTunes as that seems to be the only way to get music and stuff on it. And even then you would probably run into trouble, cause iTunes looks for proper OS, otherwise it resets it.
I would say the effort would be way too high for the benefit.
Right now, there is little to no chance. The closest similarity you can ever get to iOS is the MIUI ROM that is starting to take off in development for the Epic.
Moved to Q&A
thank you guys for the answers. i wish someone can guide me to where to start if i want to start porting the ios and how to write the drivers for it.
i did alot of search and couldn't find anything helpful.
i know ios and mac are closed sources but developers already ported it to work on PC.
Linux ubuntu already can run on samsung epic so would it be easier to port mac os on the epic or ios on the epic?

Why would you want mac os on the epic anyway? lol
Besides, I don't think mac os would even be optimized to work, especially since it is a closed source, like mentioned above.
The only reason why Linux ubuntu works is because it is based off of the same system, and linux is completely open sourced.
Hi All Developers,
I want to preface that I have searched on google for this question and have not found a real answer. I have also searched on this site and others (neopeek, tiad8, etc). Here is my question:
I have a Sprint CDMA Touch Pro 2 (rhod400) and I am using a custom ROM for Android. I was wondering since some of the Sprint Android phones are similar in hardware, ie HTC Hero, can we port the original stock Android RUU of the HERO let's say to the Touch Pro 2 directly? This is only because the hardware is the same? Possible to change the screen resolution to 480x800?
I would appreciate any insight into this. The main reason for this is because I use Good for Enterprise for work and not able to have it move past the "Authenticating" part and says "Your phone/carrier is not supported". This only happens because it is a rooted ROM. I'd like to use an unrooted Android ROM on the Touch Pro 2 (rhod400). Is this possible?
I have been a webOS user since June 2009. I am currently using a Sprint Franken Pre 2 and an HP Touchpad. With the coming of ICS I have decided to research a new phone since the future of webOS is uncertain at best and dead at the worst. My choices are limited to Sprint devices. The Photon and Epic Touch 4G top my list though a Galaxy Nexus would be ideal if it were on Sprint. ICS sounds a lot more like webOS, some new features aside. The Epic Touch 4G is my top pick.
I am looking for a place to start as far as rooting, WiFi tethering my Touchpad, and learning about roms.
On webOS rooting is as simple as enabling developer mode via an old konami code and entering a command in a dos box. Is it this simple with Android?
Are there additional app stores available after rooting? WebOS has a repository through webOS Quick Install and Preware. These allow installation of unofficial apps from our homebrew community. Is there something similar or better available before or after rooting? This is where I got my freetether app on my Pre2.
My webOS account was setup with my Yahoo email account. I do have a Google account. My calendar and phone contacts are associated with my Yahoo account. Can I create an Android account using my Yahoo email? Is there a way to import my contacts and calender to my Android account if it only allows a Google account for setup?
There's a script in development that roots the phone via comand prompt I believe. Rooting gives you more options and custom roms. I would recommend reading the sticky threads in development I'm no pro but I can help in anyway let me know.

I was a Pre minus user until my 2 year contract was up, then switched to the Epic Touch. I really like this phone, and it does most of the things WebOS does (just not as efficiently).
There is nothing like Preware on Android, but the Marketplace is great and has most of the apps that you need. One thing that is missing is the "patches" that preware had to let you customize pretty much everything. I guess the equivalent to that on android is the use of Launchers, which you can customize a lot of things, but not everything.
I am rooted with the Starburst Rom, it takes sometime to get started with rooting, but once you do it, it's pretty easy from there on. There are many videos in the Development section that guide you through it. This Rom comes with the wifi tether hack, and I can connect perfectly to my Touchpad with it.
There is one big dislike with this phone, and that is the LoS bug. I didn't mind it at first because you can just restart your phone and it fixes it, but now it is occurring a lot more often, and I miss calls and messages due to this. Hopefully this will be fixed with ICS, but then again, it may not.

You echo most of my thoughts thus far. I have gained some functionality but lost the simplicity, flow, and elegance of webOS. Grant it webOS has its flaws but it was easier to use and some things I bought apps for on Android webOS does for free in its stock form. I am happy I have made the switch though. There are some trade offs but overall I can get used to Android.
As for the phone, I love it. It's the hardware I told Palm webOS needed in late 2009 minus the screen. I sent an email.
I have been getting used to the phone and Android in its stock form. I'll be looking at the stickies for some direction with rooting.
Did you have LOS before rooting? I'm on the EK02 baseband and have not had LOS yet. My carrier is Sprint and the phone is on Android 2.36. I am curious. It would suck if I have it after rooting. Is that possible?
Ubuntu Natty 11.04 running on Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 with flash support. I made two videos with instructions on how to do it.
Your Tab must be rooted and you have to have a kernel with loop device support.
I use official rom XXJQ3 with CF-Root XXJQ1 kernel.

Go Launcher EX with custom Glass Sense Theme
sadly, this has been done before. not trying to sound negative though some people might find it useful.
there was a project at one point where they were trying to get it to run native, but idk where it stands anymore.
i'm more interested in getting ICS functioning like it should if they get anything other than ubuntu running natively on the tab and it runs great, i'm all for it. ubuntu is bloated to hell now and i dont like the unity interface at all. i've been using MINT as of lately and i've been liking it so far
Why would anyone try to run two Linux operating systems at the same time on the cramped little Galaxy Tab is beyond my comprehension.
Still... seeing some of you guys are keen on connecting though a socket to another OS using your Tabs, try getting into a windows using Teamviewer (anyone can do it, no skill or risk involved and free of charge!). Or, if you feel adventurous, you can set up a VNC server on Windows, Linux (any distro) and establish a VNC connection directly to your desktop/laptop over wifi or 3/4G.
That should run at least twice as fast and provide the same results without your Tab heating up and eating a lavish 1A/h...
Peace,
C.
