Has Anyone Installed A Rom Yet? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Just curious if anyone has installed a ROM yet or are people waiting for CM9? Which ones do you like? I have not installed one, though my Galaxy Nexus is rooted.

I think it's safe to say from the activity in the development forms that some people have installed a rom, yes

Better tag you thread correctly then, with [Q] before the topic title.

CM9 is already out.. its a Alpha kang. Doesn't feature all the goodies from CM9 because it takes time to port everything over but as time will go on. Official nightlies will be released.

i installed Android Revolution. plan on keeping that until CM9.

There are a few good roms already out there for daily use. Try some out for yourself!

Im also using ARHD 2.1.1
I know 2.1.2 is out but i havent had a chance to read over it all yet and upgrade to it

Yep I am running my own build of CM9.

Gingerbread on rooted phone

Ok dumb question but how would you go about upgrading to gingerbread on a rooted phone?! I can't seem to find the answer anywhere & I'm scared when the time comes I won't know how.

I assume you haven't rooted?
You'd have to flash (install) a ROM that's based off of Gingerbread. Right now, there are only two or three of those
I have rooted & flashed myns warm. that's what I'm worried about..or my question I guess. How would I get gingerbread on my rooted phone.

Like would I update through Sprint or is it something I have to do manually?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Manually or wait until they push it out officially.
Using my HTC Evo phone which I'm using Xda app to post
At the moment you would have to do it manually. As far a I am aware the few roms that are available are not yet completely stable, and not all the features are working. Cyanogen is working on CM7/gingerbread, but has not released a build. Sounds like they're getting close though, as he tweeted he's using it as his daily driver.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
there are 3 Gingerbread ROMs in the Android Development forum thus far. They're all in Alpha or early Beta forms currently, and for most people are not stable or feature-full enough to be daily users.
If you're new to rooting I'd shy away from flashing experimental Alpha builds unless you're ready for some troubleshooting. It might be in your best interest to wait until they are more general public ready.
If you are interested, here are the links to the 3 I'm aware of:
Comes tweaked so far. Not really stock:

Pretty much stock as well:

I've personally used the 2nd and 3rd. Both worked for me but not without some issues for sure.
Oh and no matter what, get very familiar with recovery and NAND BACKUPS (nandroid). Especially when trying these alpha roms, get used to backing up your working roms and restoring them.
Everyone is so helpful but I'm not trying to do anything with my phone until it's officialy released. I just don't know how being rooted effects updating. I don't know if I'm wording this correctly...lol sorry
what my friend is trying to tell you sinse you are rooted you have to wait untill a rom w/ gingerbread on it which he provided some for you. and if you apply it manually you may be un-rooted then until unrevoke or others can break it .
Hi all
anyone know of a fully woking gingerbread rom at this point?

CM7 is the closest. Was using as a daily driver until yesterday to run Z3. Everything but 4g, which no GB rom has.
Check out the cyanogen forums for the latest nightly builds, and the CM7 thread in the general section for any Q's or info.

Nexus is boring...

Hi there
I got a Docomo Nexus. I have a galaxy s2 also. I thought I would had the same challenges here...
Guess what... i installed Cwm. The only challenge for me. Installed latest Akop and for the first time I am not changing a rom from 3 days. Everything works here.
I am getting bored. please give dome directions to have fun and play with my phone.
For example. Is there a kernel that gives somehow better battery life? Any other rom better than Akop? Any substitute for macro feature missing in the camera app?
I used to search for perfection in galaxy S2 and I was switching between cm9, custom roms to find a perfection...please understand me, hope so...

First of all, AOKP is not the best ROM. CM9 is faster and Slim ICS is the fastest ROM with the same features as AOKP.
Secondly, I'd recommend finding something else to do with your time than worry about how your phone is "boring".

I understand your reasoning. Since we already have the latest and greatest there's not much to look forward to until Jelly Bean leaks.
Play Frisbee golf with your nexus?
zippity doo da.
Finding the answers to the questions that you asked is half the fun, for me at least. If there was a definitive "best" ROM or kernel there would be very little need for such a development based community. If you are looking for fun I would suggest looking at the market for one of the many games available.

What is true differs for every person. For example, you couldn't pay me to use AOKP (do not ask why, I won't tell you).
Do I believe that any rom is faster than any other? No I do not. Do I believe kernels can change that? Yes I do.

So what do you use? I see you're a developer: do you have your own rom? Pardon my ignorance I'm still new here. Have yet to remember a username and connect that with the work they've done.
If I guess right will you tell me? Do they work for the government and have installed keyloggers so when we say anti obama things to our friends in texts the black choppers will show up at your house, and if you tell anyone they will kill you? If so I wouldn't use it either... Or tell me why
I have gone AWOL as of last release (too much personal business to handle) but I work with a team. We put out BAMF Paradigm. I am but one member, and certainly not the main one.
My reasonings for not using AOKP are not because of that, however
I use Paradigm 1.2 with my own modifications.

i started with AOKP and never regret it, i also tested SlimICS which for sure has not same features as aokp, i also tested liquid which is nice but only english, i also tried cm9, also nice but i miss the aokp stuff in it.
For me AOKP is the best, i always come back to it and now i will stay with it, it has everything i want and just works.
For kernel i use Imoseyons Leankernel which worked for me always the best, i get around 3h also sometimes 3 1/2h screen ontime with it, and over night it loose almost nothing.
I tried also francos kernel, which is also nice, but with it i had sod issues and other stuff, but it is still a good kernel many people love it, i will stay with Leankernel.

CM9 stable release?

So I figured since CM10 is still in work in progress I would stick with CM9 for now but I'm getting confused as to what the device name that is used by CM in there download rom stable release section. Is it dt2att? I see that it's been referenced to our GS3 for at&t but when I look at it is says GS2. Sorry for the noob questions

We're discussing it in the CM9 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778165) But odds are we won't get one. They will concentrate on the CM10 for us S3 users. With them stopping CM9 though, it shouldn't be long at all for them to reach the point our CM9 is at. The latest is already a big leap from the last one with camera fixes and a "ton" of bug fixes. So if you are good on the latest (and last) CM9 update I would sit tight and watch the CM10 thread. Updates will hopefully be quick now that they can concentrate on it.

Best JB Rom on the nexus?

ive been searching for some kind of poll which shows peoples opinions on the best rom, i created a thread before asking CM10 or AOKP but thats not really giving me answers im looking for..
if you could choose your best rom by using the poll and then leaving a comment on why you use that rom
Thank you
P.S. im sorry i know ive missed out alot of roms but when creating this thread i only selected 6 poll options for some reason and i dont know how to change it :S aha sorry
87,000th thread about "best ROM"? Check.
Poll attached? Check.
OP as the first to answer? Check.
OP's answer as the top answer on the poll? Check.
Seems legit.

I used the Vicious CM10 Nightlies for a while and they were pretty good.

Sorry for starting this thread i just wanted to create it to see the best roms starting from now... and i wanna keep updated on it
if you have a problem about it then dont read the thread and dont comment on it :S im not telling you to read it or make a vote i was only asking if you could so take your stupid comments elsewhere cause i dont even care i just wanted other peoples opinions on the latest roms!!!!!!

I'm using AOKP JB Build 1 right now and loving it but I was using Paranoid Andriod JB alpha builds before and they were pretty good too considering they were alpha stage. Have a look at the threads for each ROM that interests you and read some of the more recent feedback from users to see what problems (if any) people are having. Most importantly, make a nandroid and give the ROM(s) a go. Try each for a couple of days or a week and you'll find what works best for you.

Well first off welcome to the Android Community. You've definetely started in the right place with XDA. Rooting an android phone and getting a custom ROM is easier than ever now. I would suggest first scrolling to the top of this forum and doing a lot of research and self education. There are several things you need to have a basic understanding of before flashing roms. Look at the most wanted topics thread, The official Jelly Bean General Discussion thread, Terminology for the newbies. Check out this post as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873873
In the end consider that Jelly Bean is still in the developmental stages and there can be bugs and workarounds to deal with. If you are new to Android, going with a solid custom ICS rom may be best for you so as not to spoil your Android experience.
Finally once you have made your decision head over to the Android rom development section ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1332 ) and look through the roms and choose the best one for your needs. Read the instructions and then read them again. Install exactly according to the directions in the thread from the rom you choose and enjoy ! Hope this helps a little at least. Happy Flashing ! :highfive:
The best thing to do is read, read, read. Knowledge is the best way to prevent accidents. The process for loading custom ROMs on this phone is simple but you'd be surprised how many "educated" people screw it up. Good luck.

I'll tell you a great ics rom which is called paranoid android. There is one by starskyrob in the development section. As far as JB in my opinion, the most stable is Paranoid android JB. I've flashed their latest rom and have had no sleeps of death or random reboots. This is going over 24 hours now and I did get 21 hours of battery for my first battery cycle. If you want more info send me a pm and ill link you some links. But yes read and watch a lot of youtube videos together ideas of what roms can do.

My 2 cents is that JB ROMs are not yet ready to act as daily drivers on the T989 for most of us.
The RRs and SODs continue as well as several other quirks.
I've been on and off the leading JB ROMs since mid-August and in most all cases I lost more features than I gained.
Thank God for the developers and early adopters who brave the bleeding edge for us all.
But I will wait in the safety of AOKP MS6 until I see something from Whitehawakx that's labeled "milestone" before I flash again.

All the ones I have tried so far I've had issues with, I would suggest something more stable like an ics for now. The JB roms look nice but they have issues with calls, random lockups and such.
