So I figured since CM10 is still in work in progress I would stick with CM9 for now but I'm getting confused as to what the device name that is used by CM in there download rom stable release section. Is it dt2att? I see that it's been referenced to our GS3 for at&t but when I look at it is says GS2. Sorry for the noob questions

We're discussing it in the CM9 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778165) But odds are we won't get one. They will concentrate on the CM10 for us S3 users. With them stopping CM9 though, it shouldn't be long at all for them to reach the point our CM9 is at. The latest is already a big leap from the last one with camera fixes and a "ton" of bug fixes. So if you are good on the latest (and last) CM9 update I would sit tight and watch the CM10 thread. Updates will hopefully be quick now that they can concentrate on it.

Just curious if anyone has installed a ROM yet or are people waiting for CM9? Which ones do you like? I have not installed one, though my Galaxy Nexus is rooted.
I think it's safe to say from the activity in the development forms that some people have installed a rom, yes

Better tag you thread correctly then, with [Q] before the topic title.
CM9 is already out.. its a Alpha kang. Doesn't feature all the goodies from CM9 because it takes time to port everything over but as time will go on. Official nightlies will be released.
i installed Android Revolution. plan on keeping that until CM9.
There are a few good roms already out there for daily use. Try some out for yourself!
Im also using ARHD 2.1.1
I know 2.1.2 is out but i havent had a chance to read over it all yet and upgrade to it
Yep I am running my own build of CM9.
CyanogenMod 9 nightly build have started for some phones. I don't know if I am allowed to put the link but its some thing like this download cyanogenmod com/?type=nightly. I hope they add T989 sooon.

Thanks.

CM9 will most likely come once ICS OTA update is released for the T989.

In most cases this is right but doesn't necessarily need to happen. Look at the g2x..... They will most likely never get ics from lg and cm arcee compiled a just about stable ics rom that is beautiful and works great. And thats with tegra being closed source to so drivers had to be a pain also. So we could see nightlys soon who knows we have no clue they could come out this week for all we know
I am sitting with a Skyrocket CM7 rom that isn't quite finished and isn't ever going to be finished just because I can't stand anything but...
CM9 will come...its only a matter of time, many talented people are working on ICS.

Yeah, I doubt that CM7 will ever be released in more than alpha. The CM team decided to go straight to CM9 with this device which means they will not do CM7 and it doesnt seem like anyone outside of CM team would bother since nobody has up til now and I am pretty sure the chances of a proper CM7 build will only go down when CM9 is released. All you can do is hold tight.
Ya this was pretty cruel. Thought it was gonna say it was up and running ugh.

So I flashed the aokp rom on my s3 i747. But it still has touch wiz motion settings on.
Its really annoying because if I get close to the proximity sensor when I'm texting it tries to call them.
This is my fist post ever so if I'm missing anything of value tell me and I'll post it.
Which version of AOKP are you running? (release date) An earlier release of AOKP had a MMS.apk which did that and it was removed from later releases. A new release was posted just a little while ago. You may want to flash that and see if the problem persists.

the thread on xda is probably a better place to download, they'll be up to date at least.
here.
I'm not dismissing the concern, but how do you get close to the proximity sensor when texting?

WARNING!!! For future reference. Always come straight to XDA where the support and the source for all these roms are.
P.S- you are on an outdated version that is unsupported. I have released 20 updates since that release.

Thanks to everyone that gave me an up to date source, I'm flashed with JB now and everything is working aokay. I didn't know everything came from here, like I said I'm new to xda lol.
I am looking on their website to find the Epic 4g Touch. I searched XDA and the only thing i can find is CM10 alpha which is unstable. So does anyone know what they have our phone listed under so I can get the correct rom ? Thank you for your time if you look into this.

Currently, there are no stable versions of CM for ICS or Jelly Bean. There is a CM9 in Alpha 6 by times_infinity and a CM10 in Alpha 5 by PhantomFreak53. The reason why there is nothing listed on CM's website is because there has not yet been a stable release. There are many great developers that are working very hard to make this happen though in the future.

Our specific phone isn't officially supported by CyanogenMod yet. On either CM9 or CM10. If you are looking for a pretty stable jelly bean rom, I would suggest you check out sbrissen's rom. It's on Alpha 5 and it's pretty damn stable. I actually prefer it over ICS. Just please make sure you are 100% certain about what you are doing. Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS IN THE CORRECT FORUM... sorry, I just had to get that out. Let us know if you need help or something. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here.
For more clarification on the CyanogenMod status: they are a separate team of developers and for the to support a phone "officially", the source code must be released and the current Rom must be considered stable. Then they start working on it and adding to the collective. They're pretty damn impressive, but I gotta be honest, with the current state of sbrissen's rom, he's really moving toward being officially supported. He is building his rom from source iirc.
Thank you both for your detailed answers and I will definitely look into sbrissen's rom tonight. You both speak very highly of it so sounds like a good way to go. Thank you.

My suggestion is to read before asking. There are many threads here dedicated to new users. Before you do anything, you need to be fully aware and accepting that you could have a very expensive paperweight if you do something wrong. Also, don't ask what the best ROM is. It will cause issues in the forums with people trying to prove they have a bigger d*ck because they use - whatever- ROM. Go with what fits you. But do all that after a good amount of reading.

I completely agree with graydiggy. The best thing to do is to identify what you're looking for, and read a lot. I did a bunch of reading on this forum when I was first starting with my Samsung Vibrant, and I've learned a TON since then
Sent from my Nexus 7 running AOKP 4.2
I'll agree with others saying that you will find out more as you go. You'll also figure out more specific things to search for. Most of the roms I've seen have a thorough first post that leads you to information on getting caught up. This will generally lead to some of the pinned topics when first starting out. However, I also find myself having some of the same questions for each kernel release, like "How does this differ from the previous kernel? Which changes actually apply to my device?". Are there general release notes provided for each android kernel release? So far, I just go with what's current, recommended for the rom, and works well for others, and that's fine. But I still wonder what changes the revisions have been through, even if it's stuff I wouldn't notice day to day.
Thanks for all ur advices and leads i appreciate that , i guess i have no choice but read more
