I was showing off the GN at work tonight and all of the sudden I got a no data connection error. My signal bars turned grey and have been grey ever since.
I've seen the bars show 4g but they remain grey and I get no data whatsoever.
I have searched the forums and the only reason I have found that seems to hold up is a problem with the sim card.
I've turned on and off airplane mode switched to CDMA only (3G), powered on and off many times. I pulled the battery and held down power button for a while... nothing helps.
Anyone have any other ideas besides the sim card?
I can make calls with it... that is all.
Thanks
I still get on via wifi. But am currently experiencing the same problem. Grayed out signal bars ans no mobile data. Have tried turning mobile data on and off, airplane mode on and off, removing sim card and replacing it.... ugh.. Verizon problem I'm guessing.

Ok.. It's pretty much a nationwide outage of 3g and 4g on Verizon
http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/21/psa-verizon-users-reporting-data-outages-across-the-us/
Yeah. Just read the thread about it and talked to vzw operator... let's hope this doesn't happen often

Hey guys quick question.Just got a refurb incredible and it doesnt detect 3g at all.Talked with the VZW suport for 45 minutes.Went through all the troubleshooting steps 3 times over, did master resets...everything.They're doing a line resolution to this phone to see if it resolves the problem. It is not bricked,I can send/receive messages and make/receive calls.Would rooting it maybe help? The support rep said I might have to have the original software reflashed onto it from verizon.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you in a heavily cemented building? I noticed today that my 3g died and wouldnt reconnect no matter how many times I resetted and battery pull, while I was in class because the coverage and signal just doesnt penetrate the building.
No I was on my house.I even went outside

The only thing you can do is turn airplane mode on and off or check the 3G internet connection button in networks.
If that doesn't work the phone is broken, but you can try re-installing an RUU if you want but personally if it was a refurbished phone I wouldn't even bother and I would just get another one.
I tried the airplane mode trick and still nothing.the mobile network button says mobile network turning on but doesn't ever connect.what is an ruu

edit: found ruu by searching, should've done that to begin with.I'm just gonna take it to verizon and if they cant do anything I'll just call htc.
OK does this phone actually show anything other than 4g?
I am in a 3g area and I have not ever seen anything but the 4g icon.. Unless I put it in gsm only mode. But on auto or Wcdma mode it stays on the 4g icon.
Also it seems like I have issues with the Internet staying connected even when I have signal.
Also it seems like when I leave my screen off and turn it on the signal is higher than normal but goes down within a few seconds.
Anyone else notice this?

I am having the EXACT same issues. But, I am in a 4G area. Of course I got throttled by blowing through my 5G limit in a week--damn these new toys and massively restrictive internet access at work (financial industry). So now I am on edge for a while; but with the 4G icon up, I cannot hold a data connection at all. It goes on for a few seconds or such, then nothing. The upload icon is always on, but no download. I have to force GSM mode to maintain any sort of connection. The "Auto GSM/Wcdma" does not switch modes efficiently. I think it is continually checking for a 4G connection, thus resetting the 3G/Edge connection it is making. Very frustrating. . . I am hoping someone with make a Auto/4G/3G/Edge toggle so I can drop it on the homescreen rather than digging down for it.
Same thing here. Always on 4g and my wifi is spotty like the first poster. What's the deal?

5gb in one week?? That's insane usage u might need the 10gb option..
The 3g 4g network is the same network.. some towers aren't updated and some phones don't get 4g speeds but that's why it always says 4g

Hey guys I've got the GSM version and every now and then my signal bars turn grey, this is with full signal even showing 3g buts its grey and won't call out or load data. I'm not a twit and understand that phones loose signal its just strange it comes back randomly also. Very annoying.
I'm on 4.0.1 Google build anyone else get this issue?

grey full bars
i dont have a technical response to this question other than i only notice this during times of transition between either booting up the phone or switching to wifi on or off equally.
The phone usually checks to sync when it has been on standby and you then hit the power button. If you theoretically switch between wifi and 3g/4g during this time it would force a transition which could yield a situation as you describe.
This happens to me too sometimes. What network do you have?

You have to find out the true reason why your connection is being interrupted. The bars going grey instead of blue is just reflecting the fact that your connection isn't persistent and you don't have a full sync with Google.
Blue bars = connection to Google servers
Grey bars = no Google servers

When you open the browser does it say that there is no network coverage and you have to turn off the airplane mode?
I was having the same issue with 4.0.1, I was getting disconnect from the mobile network almost every 2-3 hours and the only way to get online again was to do a reset. But now with 4.0.2 everything seems to work fine.
My carrier (Simyo in Spain) is a "virtual operator" (MVNO), so I'm thinking that the issue was somehow related with the “data was disconnected due to roaming” bug in 4.0.1.
Been having same issues on Wifi and 3g, causes huge issues with push gmail
Edit: I removed dns changer from my phone, and seems to be helping

Thanks Menek, I am still on 4.0.1. Hopefully soon I will get an OTA update.
Hello,
This thread kind of died down but it is very important. Here is the issue logged by other users with Google. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22503
Has anybody managed to find a fix?
I called Samsung yesterday and they advised me to return the phone. I don't feel like being without a phone for 2 weeks. Besides it is sort of proven that it is a Rom issue (am I correct?). What do you say guys, shall i send it to Samsung or wait for an update from Google? The problem doesn't happen very often, every once in a while. I suppose this is why the battery runs out pretty quickly as it tries to connect to a network too often. And when it doesn't establish connection it goes to Airplane mode.
Any more comments on this issue?
I'm running the gummynex rom right now and when I toggle off 4g, I cannot get data with 3g
I get about 3 bars, but it continues to stay grey and never turns blue.
I would like to know if this is the rom issue or if verizon is the problem.
Thank you in advance
I have 3g data so prolly not a rom issue. Also I've seen post stating that it turns blue when connected to Google servers. But I have not researched it.

Are you connected to 3g with just CDMA or are you connected with CDMA/LTE? When I have lte enabled I get 4g data and
3g, but when I'm just on cdma, I cannot connect. I waited a half an hour switching over, tried the airplane toggle and even reboot. None of them worked.
Also, what do you mean by Google servers?

When the signal bar turns blue it means you have connection to the google servers (Gtalk/Market and stuff like that).
Yeah I am not getting those at all on 3g, I'm in an area with 3g only and lte enabled and I still am not connected. This is kind of worrying me as I might have ruined the radios with this rom and rooting?

Hey all, I have the T-MO and I am having a hard time getting connected to the network. I would like to post my status to see if this is a carrier problem or my phone problem.

My phone is doing the same too. I don't think its a phone issue since my bro has a unrooted Mytouch 4g and he does not have internet on his phone either.
I am in San Diego. Where are you located at?
Same here, in San Diego.
My internet just came back up, Tmo must had a small outage.

Well that was the first thing I tried, turning data on and off, Airplane mode, Even a reboot. No Dice this time.
Things looks like its back to normal for me. I don't know about the others tho. They never said anything yet.
