Is The Samsung Galaxy Epic Touch a worthy upgrade? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

o you guys think the Galaxy S2 is a worthy upgrade from the nexus s because I have the choice to get one right now and wanted to know you guys opinion?

Best phone I've ever owned, and I've had quite a few.

you ever owned the nexus s?

My buddy has a Nexus S and they're not even close. Go to the T-Mobile store and see for yourself. I always think of the Nexus S as being somewhere in between to Galaxy S and the Galaxy S2 (closer to the first Galaxy haha).

I say wait for the next flagship and not waste your upgrade unless you're itching for a new phone.

it's not an upgrade, the situation i'm in is either get a new phone now or wait 2 more years with the nexus s. Does that change things?

Honestly, I got the epic touch thinking it was going to be kinda cool but when I got it, I was amazed dude. Get it, I also am running cm7, which makes it wayyy smoother .

E4GT is a considerably better phone -
Check it out at the store first to compare the two, if it wont extend your current 2-year upgrade time. I got this from the G1, purposely passing on the Nexus One-S4G with the later being the only other phone I would of gotten. I have ZERO regrets! E4gt is a beast and the smoothest android phone ever!

Would you recommend the galaxy nexus

I have a galaxy s 2 I9100 but thinking of getting the galaxy s 2. Would you recommend it?
If I already had an s2, I probably wouldn't get a nexus. But if I had neither and wanted a new Android device, I would have a bit of trouble justifying the S2 over the nexus.
This is a question that has been raised many times in this forum, and ultimately can only be decided by you. No one knows your financial situation when it comes to throwing $650 at a phone, and no one knows what you consider a worthy upgrade or not.
Financial situation has nothing to do with it obviously if I'm considering the phone it means I can afford it. I guess my question is if you're to choose today between a S2 and a nexus which one would u go for?
If you want the latest, go for it, but since I see you're already here on XDA I don't think you have much too worry about.
Well, i guess it's pretty safe to say that almost everyone in GN forum were in this situation and chose nexus in the end, so your answer is that... but, if you already have a gs2, i dont think it's great move, i really think you could wait for the galaxy 3 or something else, i would expect...

I had a G2x which was a solid device.
My decision was based on the fact that mg work pays for me to carry a work phone. It was eligible for an upgrade. I waited for the Nexus. Then cancelled my personal line.
They paid for the phone, the monthly service, I only have to carry one phone instead of two, and I made a couple hundred off my G2x. That's a lot of wins.
Outside the above, I'd still have my G2x. Do I like the Nexus better... yea I do. $650 better... no.
If/when Samsung updates the SGSII to ICS, it'll be somewhat comparable to the Nexus. The SGSII still has plenty of life left. Maybe wait for the next nexus.
Their both sweet phones.

Well that's a different question that what you're asking. You own the S2 already, so you're not choosing whether to buy the S2 or the GN right now.
Pretty obviously if you had them both infront of you and had to pay for either one (you own an older phone and were choosing to upgrade to one of these 2), you'd choose the more recent model, the Galaxy Nexus.

Think you're confusing it with the story that Samsung said they won't update the Galaxy S, not the Galaxy SII. There have already been leaked Samsung ICS + TouchWiz 5 images for the SII.

I made the jump from an s2 to the nexus..
I miss the sd card, sharper camera quality, app compatibility (eg. NHL game center) and the size for one handed use.
On the nexus side I like the no lag shutter, the non physical soft keys, ics, and the screen resolution.
Another thing, you can only use the tacky wet applied screen protectors on the nexus because the hard ones will peel if they cover your entire screen due to the curved glass..
I need to jump from g2x to galaxy Nexus. This is the best Android phone I have ever used.
I have a Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Nexus and I would take the Nexus first. Highly recommend.
If that helps you any, I had galaxy s2, sold it for 350 and bought Nexus for 710.
Loved s2, but Nexus is worth every cent.

Happy with Nexus
I'm pretty happy with my Nexus. I'd prefer the volume was a bit louder. And there is a software bug or three. But, yeah, I'd recommend it. And I'm not even rooting it, yet.
I have a Gnex, my partner has a GS2. I thought of swapping with him for about five minutes when I realised my Gnex had no micro SD slot. Then I started using it and now I would not trade it for any phone on the market, SD or no SD.
My partner is always showing off the fancy things that TouchWiz on the GS2 can do and I just think "hmph, bloatware"...but if you like bloatware, by all means get a GS2.
This phone is so simple, yet not so simple that I see myself wanting something else before my contract is up. And I am a phone whore.
I love it. It is beautifully done and a pleasure to own.

I'm thinking of getting a Galaxy Nexus

... Is it worth it? Becuase knowing me , all I'm going to do is constantly flash custom ROMs and shidazzle like that , I've looked at all the specs and things, but is it worth the however much money it costs?
Totally worth it if you ask me. I had the nexus s before and then I bought an iphone 4s. Biggest mistake of this year. Then I changed it to a galaxy nexus. Couldn't be happier

You just answered your own question. No other device has or will have as much dev support with roms, software updates and mods. For a person that seems to enjoy customizing their device as much as you do, its a no brainer.
Galaxy Nexus running GummyNex w/Franco.kernel
I bought it the day it came out for 289 and haven't regretted it one bit. You'll love it. Already a bunch of dev work going on for ICS too. You should be able to get it cheaper than that now too. If you have a costco membership they have it for 50 dollars off right now.

DO IT!!!!!!!
I'm gonna be changing from Infuse to either the Nexus or the SKyrocket.
Only thing that makes the nexus sad to me is the camera....... D: 5mp compared to most others with 8mp is not worth it -_- but on the other hand it has freaking ICS which looks so nice
5 vs 8 i personally didn't think it would make that much of big deal, the pics came out pretty good compared to iphone 4s which everyone say it had best camera
Get it. You won't regret it

I have had every phone from HTC and Samsung before this one. The GN has its faults like every phone on the market, but it is the most solid feature rich phone currently out bar none. I just got it a week ago and haven't regretted it.

i use my Gnex more than my SGS2. pure vanilla 4.0 is awesome! i cant bring myself to use Touchwiz and Sense anymore. I dont use vanilla/CM on sgs2 cuz lack of some drivers.
so yeah, gnex ftw! and from now on, nexus line for me. i would never repeat the same mistake buying other powerful device until next Nexus. i dont care if its powerful or not, i'll get Nexus.
For something that you look at multiple times a day, you'll never feel bored. At the moment the maximum screen time I'm getting is about 2.5 hours a day. It's more than enough for me. If I were a power user I would get the Maxx of all the phones out there, but since I'm not this is perfect for me.
I have an IPad and love it, but phone wise ICS is much better than iOS.

Convince me to upgrade to galaxy nexus!

I have a nexus S looking to upgrade and I just cant make up my mind between galaxy S2 and galaxy nexus. I was waiting for S3 but it's nothing spectacular and I'll rather save money by getting a cheaper phone.
I obviously love the google experience and really glad how well google supported the nexus S, they got ICS running so well on it with 4.0.4. No other android OEM supports their year old phones like that. And I am not happy at all with how samsung treated the original galaxy S and galaxy S plus.
However I am just not sure about the hardware of the GN. The screen is touted as it's major feature but then I come across this,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394358
How is that supposed to be the "best" screen? And then many tests have confirmed that the nexus has an extremely dim display compared to S2 and other amoled screens. How then is it the best display? Seems like it's just pixel density where it wins among amoled screens.
The other thing which worries me is the GPU and resolution combination. One of the only things my nexus S has really started struggling with is gaming, I surely want my next phone to be really good at it. But is the nexus very good at it with the old GPU but really high resolution?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rElZzjJk3yM
Why do I see slight lag in there? Can the galaxy nexus not run temple run at stutter free 60FPS?
Lastly I have heard the loudspeaker is on the quieter side? Another strange thing for a samsung phone, how much worse is it than nexus S?
Updates directly from Google, better screen, NFC, Next official Google Rom very likely supported. SGSIII just announced, why get an S2.
Root it and it's the best device on earth.

If you're looking for a reason to get the Galaxy Nexus and posting here you'll just get biased post. If you want it, just get the phone. Sitting there and being obsessed trying to justify your purchase won't get you anywhere, I had this obsession for like 1 week nonstop and gave in. I came from a Nexus S too.
Just do it.
Not sure whether or not to get it?
Go to a Verizon store and check it out for yourself.
I say if you aren't sure, then don't get it. Some we have a tendency to look for faults and more faults because of what we read. If you really want it on the other hand, go get it. The negative reviews you see at times will be brushed away because you like the phone you have. There isn't a perfect phone. What makes it perfect is the smile on your face every time you use it.
Just get it.
Don't like it. Return it.
Thing is, you'll love it.

I'm coming from a gs2 from tmobile and believe me the galaxy nexus is very nice. The gs2 development is slow and the phone is a bit laggy vs the GN. I say get it. Don't even bother with touchwiz and get pure Google's ics and way better development and faster updates.

I am using NS and my 1st GNex just came.
For real I don't see a better screen and a faster phone..
comparing both using stock lastest 4.0.4 rom...
Why do we need to convince you? What is in it for us?
Go to the store and play with one and see what you think.
If your after a cheaper phone than the SGS 3 i personally would say get the Gnex over SGS 2 ( i came from an sgs i9000 but my buddy has an s2 ) but its up to you.
Only you can say what you like best.
It depends how you use your phone and how much you flash it etc.
If your just a general user or a "hardcore" user.
They are both pretty much identical apart from the TW of course.
Easy; Don't think, just do it.
Sent from a Nexus is our Galaxy...
I also came from a Nexus S (just within the past 2 weeks actually), but was disappointed in the ICS experience on my Nexus S. I found it to be fairly laggy, especially with multiple apps open.
ICS on the Galaxy Nexus is a much better experience. The speaker volume on the Galaxy Nexus isnt as strong as the Nexus S, but its fine for normal use from what I've found. My screen has been just perfect too.
My recommendation is get the Galaxy Nexus if you are interested. I dont think you'll regret it. Its all the good stuff about the Nexus S plus better battery life and a better screen.
If you have a Nexus S, wait it out. See what Google has in store for Android and the Nexus program. Then invest.

honestly coming from a gnexus user.. i would say go for S3.. gnexus has a weak battery imo and isnt really that smooth( even after installing ROMs etc) compared to my older htc desire hd which is pretty stupid. the speaker is pretty soft but volume+ should fix it. if u hate touchwiz that much just flash a vanilla ICS rom on S3

Coming back to Android, torn between 3 giants.(Sprint)

Hey everyone I am coming back to android after putzing with the iPhone 4S, I am just bored and would like to get back into using custom ROM's. I am torn between 3 phones, the 3 are the Galaxy Nexus, the Galaxy S3, and the Evo 4G LTE. Now one thing I am worried about on the Galaxy Nexus is the camera quality, how is the camera? I would also like your opinions after owning the phones for months at a time.
Cheers!
Cut out the EVO4G. It doesn't stand a chance between the Nexus and the S3.
If you want better developer support, go for the Nexus.
If you want a better camera and better hardware, go for the S3.
I have a Nexus right now and I have no urge to change to a S3 even if I had a choice to. This has made me SO happy.
The camera quality is amazing, it's nice having a quad band phone, the ROMs are great, and getting Jelly Bean today is AMAZING
A big reason I am considering the GN is because I heard the US S3 has a Dual Core, as compared to its EU counterpart, I really like the developmental platform for the Nexus that is why I am highly considering it. How are the touch screen home buttons and such? Do they cause any trouble?
Also does it have HDR?

I would suggest getting the unlocked Galaxy Nexus and using it on Straight Talk. $45 a month for unlimited talk and text and 2gb of data(or so). If you need more data t mobile has some great cheap pre paid plans. The phone will cost you more up front, but in the long run you'll save money. There is a very in depth thread about it here in the general section.

Quote for truth.
Camera is not so hot on the Nexus. If that is your major concern, probably would get the SGSIII.
I had all 3 of these phones and switched back to a Galaxy Nexus.
The Evo had to many Sense Reloading issues and the multitasking was a joke.
I got rid of the S3 because the dialer kept freezing up as well as other apps. Plus I didn't like the home button. I'm afraid that over time its gonna break. Also I dont care what anyone else says, the phone is slippery.
I chose the nexus because I moved to straight talk. Plus it'll have timely updates. Ain't no telling when or if the S3 or Evo while get them. However, I'm sure they will get the update

Did I pick the right phone?

Verizon offered me any 4G phone on their network today sure to issues with my current phone. Among the phones the rep offered me were: Incredible 4G, Droid Razr Max, Galaxy S3, and the Galaxy Nexus. I went with the latter.

Best phone ever. :good:
I think you definitely have the right phone.
With that said...I think you should have gotten the S3. Sold it for $500 (would have made a quick sale at that price) then picked up a Gnex and profited $250.
That's just me though.
Hands down the best phone I have owned.. I regret trading my first one and plan on keeping this one until the next nexus.

You picked the right phone but I would have grabbed a gs3 and sold it for ~$550 then bought a new or like new nexus and bagged ~$200.
Depends on where you live. Generally skipping on Verizon and getting the GSM nexus would have been better, IMO.
If I were to stick to Verizon, I'd get a RAZR Maxx. The s3 is great compared to most phones. Motorola makes crappy software, but you're a rooter/rommer, so that wouldn't matter.
If you look at the bigger picture, all the phones above are great, so just enjoy.
PS, Dont forget the VZN/Samsung extended battery, you'll need it.

Moto makes crappy software? Moto puts out probably the least Manufacturer bloated software out of any of the big names. Plus they do SOAK tests and actually take input from their users/testers (and anyone can do it, you don't have to be a somebody that knows somebody).
But with all that said...locked bootloaders suck.

At first I had it original unrooted and I was a bit surprised when I finally rooted my phone that it was as easy as it was. I don't feel like I could have gotten a better phone atm.
