? Just being rooted will not stop the update. In fact most paths will let you take the update and brick your phone if you actually did things like removing system apps. Luckily thats usually a soft brick.
Are you on EL29, some other Gingerbread, one of the 4.0.3/4.0.4 leaks or FF18? There hasnt been a "New OTA" in a month. If your not on FF18 and you want FF18 just odin it.
Fh13 update possibly or just sending out ff18 again.? Hmmmm

it's FF18 update and im on el29. I read more about it and mentioned that adobe flash will not work on ICS build and seen battery drainage from users who updated their phones. I guess I'll wait till the patches roll out if needed. Also can't flash with clockwork recovery installed. It has to be stock recovery.

LOL Flash works fine on ICS, are you sure you were not reading about Jelly Bean? Which still works in just no new installs allowed.
Besides as of today Adobe is supposed to have pulled Flash for ALL phones on all android versions that dont already have it installed
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/14/psa-adobe-halts-new-installs-of-flash-on-android-as-of-tomorrow/
You can flash FF18 OTA, in clockworkmod, or flash the tar in odin that we had 3 weeks prior to the OTA. I flashed a tar/one click earlier for testing and someone else flashed a zip for it in clockwork mod using a safe recovery.
Taking the OTA means you loose root anyways, not sure why people think they want the OTA. With no root exploit youd have to flash an prerooted one in odin.
I tried to flash it with the original update and looked like it was going to update but after the animation showing as a box with a arrow unpacking the update it threw me into the Android with the exclamation screen. Had to battery pull and safe to say that my phone is safe and not bricked.

Well once again its going to rape you of root and the only way to get root is the same way to get rooted FF18 from where you are. Mind you the update to FF18 is not without its issues. Swype for example you have to delete its data for it to work again. Best bet is to backup your stuff and wipe it.

Yes you will. But you'll lose root and CWM of you accept it.
Edit: if you have superuser paid version it does have ota survival but its not guaranteed to keep root.

On stock rooted Roms and some TW Roms yes. But i usually take the update on my stock rooted Rom. It tries to install and restarts the phone then i get a android with triangle screen. But, i pull the battery and restart and all is fine. No more ota notifications and everything remains the same...

You know if you read in the general section. There is an ota notification kill. Then you dont have to worry about that. But to each their own.

Has anyone tried Rootkeeper with this OTA? If so, can you provide feedback on the results?

Update to JB and keep root?

How do I apply the JB update and keep root? or gain root after update? I am on stock ROM.
Thanks
You can buy mobile Odin and use it to install the update, and have it inject root and super su at the same time.
Will that work a file that's flashed through recovery? Or is there an Odin file somewhere that I haven't seen?

Yes, it has an option to apply OTA update zip files
Awesome. Thanks. Also, I have no idea why my replay posted twice. Lol.

Got mobile ODIN, flashed back to stock firmware except recovery with everroot enabled. That worked just fine, and when it got to the update zip, it rebooted into recovery and attempted the update, but it failed. I don't remember the reason, if it gave one. Now I have the brightness slider but still 4.0.4... weird? I restored from backup and retried...same result.
edit: Think i might have figured it out. I was not on the right build number to start with for the update.

Yup otas patch a specific build to make the next. If you have the wrong recovery, modem, or are modded it will likely fail.

JB Update Not Installing

I have been trying to install the latest ota update from T-Mobile on my sg 3 but after it downloads and I try to install it the phone restarts in CWM and I get a message saying can't verify signature. I toggle the signature verification in CWM but I get the same message, any idea what I may doing wrong or what I may need to do differently to have the update install?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
If you are not using the stock recovery (not cwm), the ota update won't go through. You have to unroot and install stock recovery to get the ota to install

Just Odin the new root66 image. Its way faster than doing the OTA update. Make sure you do a factory reset afterwards too, so youll avoid any conflicts or unnecessary drains.
I have a question, did the JB update come with a radio update as well?

Yes. Easiest way to find out is just to check the modem thread.

Removing CWM Recovery off stock device

Hi. I was wondering how I would go about removing CWM Recovery off my stock s3.
My computer isn't that good and I want to remove it so I can do the jb update. It keeps saying the file signature failed and wont install and I thought if maybe I got rid of CWM it would let me update.
All help is appreciated.

Same issue here. I have CWM Recovery and the device is rooted. Doesn't seem to like the OTA for Jelly Bean.
My device isn't rooted tho. That's why I wanna get rid of it. If I was rooted I'd flash jb. I couldn't get rooted. My computer screen wasn't big enough to click ok in Odin. And when I finally did It rebooted but said it couldn't finish the root.

Flashed stock recovery. Went to do update and the update got to 24% and rebooted. Pop-up said it failed and to use kies.
Ill try again later and see if maybe a new update cache would fix it.
